You know a guy is excited about his new toy when he discusses every single gage and doodad on the instrument panel. Congratulations, dude! You are living my dream.
Mooneys trigger memories that bring me back to Gordon Baxter's writings as 'The Pasture Pilot' from Beaumont TX in the 70s 80s & 90s for FLYING Magazine in his column 'Bax Seat'. The previous on air radio personality story teller brought the romance of flying into my mind & heart back when I bought a 10 hour block of flying time as a student pilot.Your descriptions of the M20 even sound like him talking. May you have many joyful memories with your young family in this marvelous machine designed & crafted by AL Mooney. Remember as you get your instrument endorsement, the day after a weather induced accident is always clear & sunny when they inspect the aircraft remnants. Learn from the mistakes of others, you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
I looked very seriously at buying this airplane back during the summer. The price he was asking at the time was very reasonable! I went a bit more updated with mine but you have a nice basic Mooney there!
@@MyTimeToFly Yes it is and I completely understand! I meant that as a positive aspect about it, I just had a few "had-to-haves" that kept me from jumping on this one. The simplicity of these early Mooneys is what I find so attractive! I did stick with a Mooney, went with a 1964 that had some of my personal requirements.
Brings back memories - my father had a share in a 1965 Mooney Super 21 (M20E) when I was a kid (a long time ago). Went across the continent with it. These are fantastic aircraft. Congratulations on her and enjoy!!!
I'm grinning about how you made a video about how renting from your flight school was going to work out the best and then 5 months later you introduce us to your new plane. :-) I suspect you're not the only one that's happened too. Congrats on your new Mooney!
Nice looking C-model! Congratulations on your purchase. When I was a lad I spent more than a few hours riding around in a C-model (a Ranger) with my Dad, and later in his J-model. I enjoyed those days and now I tinker around with my own 201, which has been a great airplane. I hope you have a lot of fun with your airplane and enjoy flying with the girls before they grow up and get involved in other things. Fly safe and God bless.
@@MyTimeToFly Just found a $27k Mooney like yours. Failed annual due to visible corrosion on gear legs. I’m betting there more that can’t be seen and hence the low price. Thoughts?
@@MyTimeToFly You are going to love it. Trust me. It will put a check mark in all of your boxes. Let me know if you have any question. Good luck again.
Congrats, I got my complex rating on a Mooney M20C and now I am hooked and want to buy a J model as I want the more room for family. Still it's a sexy plane with tons of speed over a basic Cessna or Piper.
That's awesome! We're also in the process of buying of a Mooney, an M20E. I have similar plans too to get an IFR rating after wrapping up the purchase. Good luck with that!
I don't have a PPL (just wish I did) but from what I have learned from postings, an older Mooney would suit me fine. I have always been fascinated by airplanes, particularly propeller driven. I have been to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. two or three times, and I always get stuck drooling over those beautiful machines, especially a twin engine silver and yellow model hanging near the main entrance. Thanks for your overview.
@@MyTimeToFly Thanks. I once attended a conference in Martha's Vineyard. The flight from Logan/Boston was on a WW II vintage DC7, a twin prop, tail steering beautiful aircraft. We boarded near the tail, and had to walk up (about 35°) towards the front of the plane to take our seats. Some of the younger people were groaning and complaining, but I loved it. For the return to Logan with the same airline (Provincetown Airways, now defunct) we flew in a six-seater, and I got to sit right behind the copilot's seat. At another time, after a college holiday weekend in Foxboro, Massachusetts, my college friend's father took us back to Maine on a four seater that I think was a Beechcraft, though I don't remember the model. Those have been some of the most positive highlights of my life.
In sept 19 you were talking about how to get the license and in March of 2020 you have a Mooney. Congrats! That seems fast, from what i understand.. which could be wrong; you need a complex endorsement for this plane, as well as someone to have done some specific lessons in it? I am just starting down the same path you did, would love to find a buy like this now.
Thanks Greg, I was very fortunate. You're correct, I did need to get a complex endorsement and 10 hours of transition training (for insurance and my own piece of mind).
Congratulations on Your new Mooney they will work well for two adults and small children BTW if You need a TXP I have a AT50A and AT150 if You are intersted
Thanks for sharing beautiful airplane it's always better to own..... in my opinion. Currently on a Cessna 150 that's what I'm looking at their own. Mooney m20j.
Nice overview of the M20c. Would you mind sharing what your purchase price was? Or at least a range? I'm midway thru flight training and starting to think about options for long term. How many hours in transition training was required to get the complex rating?
No problem man, we spent around $35k on the plane, which included some initial upgrades. I had about 150 hours at that time, all in fixed gear, fixed pitch airplanes. The insurance required 10 hours of transition training, and it took most of that for me to gain my confidence! Most of that confidence was the change in landing sight picture, and less about the complex nature.
First off, love the channel, I want to buy a M20c myself. I was speaking with a pilot I happened to meet about possible aircraft choices. I mentioned my interest in the Mooney. He suggested I steer away from the Mooney. He said the constant speed prop could go out and that is a $40,000.00 fix. He also said due to the wing chord, the tips stall before the wing root. I was quite disappointed. He suggested a Piper pa28 Cherokee-180. I don't have an issue w/ Pipers, I just really like the M20c. What is your opinion? Very best regards, JA
Thanks so much Jack!!! I have to say I disagree. The cost of the prop seems a bit high, it seems to have an extra 0 in it. Regardless, it isn’t unique to Mooney, it could happen with any constant speed prop. Regarding stalls, I have to say my planes stalls very smooth, nothing wild. I have nothing against the Cherokee, but clearly I love the Mooney, and don’t think you’d regret anything!
We had a complete pre buy inspection to ensure it was in good condition. After the mechanic signed off, we completed some necessary repairs and flew her away!
That plane actually looks awesome 2 me. I just don't know if I could afford something like that or the maintenance and upkeep. But that is awesome man just awesome.
@@MyTimeToFly oh wow partnership. do you mean seven thousand a year wouldn't cover expenses to own? I don't feel like a partnership would be good for me I'm a bit of an introvert and have a crazy schedule I would need it there on my Wilm of when I could fly. I'm an over-the-road truck driver put in about 60 hours a week. It's really hard to squeeze out that me time.
Costs will really depend on what you but, where you keep it, and how much you fly. You probably could own one on your own for $7,000, but you might not be able to fly it much as every hour costs more money!
I don’t have any diagrams, but it is in annual right now. Maybe I can make a video breaking down the manual “Johnson Bar” system while the covers are off!

The autopilot is not worth fixing it is made by ARC Cessna no service or parts
