Yeah. It reminds me of the box for the Blade Runner gun, which was the first of Adam’s videos I watched. Was definitely a factor in getting me to start making stuff.
Crazy how I would take a box like this totally for granted but seeing it all built gives me such an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into it
FYI for anyone aiming to get these, the base is model 1043/L, but it may come with the wrong hammer, so you may need to switch it out for the style on their model 1031/L. Also, the original Public Theater production's props were on display years ago with unaltered gold parts, so that can still be considered accurate.
I just watched Hamilton live here in the Philippines, thought nothing of it at first, just brushed it off as a "unique" broadway show, I liken it to just something I just pass by a mall without a care in the world. I just went for my GF, after watching it, it's probably one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life. It's always been stuck in my head for over a month now and that very rarely happens. It's one of the best THINGS I have ever had a pleasure to experience. If you can go, GO!
The part that he stated "I think my gloves are compromised" and went to promptly change them shows clearly that Adam is very experienced and comfortable as a craftsman, but doesn't allow himself to become lax. Allot of people would have gone "meh they're compromised already so whats the issue?" Its the experienced crafters that get injured most often as they become comfortable and so become lax. I do wish he took a moment to address it though. Proper safety measures are always a great thing to mention, especially what to do when they fail.
Adam. Have you ever tried using cloth, wrapping your object tightly to get the curves, and then using the vacuum former to get the perfect shape for an object, and then using flexi-felt to cover it and create a perfectly smooth and tight fit for your fragile/older relics? It looks beautiful.
It seems i am among the masses in the sens that i also absolutely love watching Adam make boxes. I also love fancy and specific containers and so every time i see him making a box of any sort i get so excited. I would also like to say that appreciated the shot explaining detail requirements for theater, movies, and in person. It made me laugh out loud.
Adam, when you say it's fine, we all know it isn't fine and somewhere in your subconscious, you are freaking out. I know the feeling. ❤Love the channel! Been a huge fan for many years!
Years ago a gun magazine hired an expert to examine the dueling pistols, which were kept in a private Rockefeller museum at the Chase Manhattan Bank. He claimed in the article that Hamilton's gun was modified to have a hair trigger, presumably to give Hamilton an advantage. The theory he presented was that Hamilton was a bit nervous, and accidentally fired early, missing his mark and hitting a tree branch. Burr then had time to aim precisely.
In the two productions of Hamilton I've seen he fiddles with his pistol just before the duel starts, I've assumed this was a nod to him adjusting the set (hair) trigger.
Nice job, though a caution: your featherboard looked pretty far back at the start, you don't want side pressure behind the point of cut if you can help it.
9:20 - 9:26 REALLY important stuff right here. Don't spend your life making a museum quality artifact that stands up to the most detailed scrutiny, when it's only ever gonna be seen from 15' away.
Adam, please tell us about your reaction to I Did A Thing's new UA-cam video about dropping a coin off the top of a building. He demonstrates a compelling argument that the coin could do some serious damage if thrown! I was wondering whether the coin would start to tumble as it fell further, or would it maintain a spin like demonstrated in his video? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Idk why I expected anything less from THE Adam Savage, but people actually knowing what Dramaturgs are makes my little B.A. in Theater heart happy. That said....those classes...I was there....I passed them...but I had way more fun in my Tech and Acting classes. My lack of interest however does not diminish the importance Dramaturgs have to a production!!

For anyone checking out the Denix link, the base model is correct, but the hammer with the loop on top is wrong, so you may need to switch it out for the style on their model 1031/L (or perhaps write to them and request that).
Adam, I really enjoy watching your process. One little thing on this one scared me though. When you were cutting your box into 2 pieces, your feather board was in a very dangerous place. It should never apply pressure past the front edge of the blade as you cut. Putting pressure where the blade is can cause kickback. Just a thought
Wow this is awesome because I just watched you build nightstands and you were afraid or at least sucked at angle cuts. You've been a long time hero of mine thank you Adam for being a humanitarian!
Adam, you are *not* Done: a proper pistol case needs a tag on the inside of the lid of the Box - And in this case, it should read "Adam Savage, California"!

I have been wanting to make a similar box for an original British flintlock sea service pistol I bought from a museum. It was a battlefield pick up from the battle of New Orleans during the war of 1812. I still take it out and fire it on Special Occasions. Great shooter, but it's very hard to hit anything, being it has no sights
Nice case but I don't understand why you didn't stain the bottom. I know you'll say "it won't be seen", yet I saw it. Was saving 10 seconds really that important?
I like that box construction for presentation cases for real firearms instead of the Manufacturer's modern blow-form cases they come with...or just a cardboard shipping carton.
I have sincere issues with the fact that Adam didnt stain and lakier the whole inside. Its such a small extra effort and it would seal everything. I am aware that "nobody will know"... but I would know and it would bother me that I couldnt spare this bit of effort while doing so much effort to making something so nice.
As to the boxes appearance on stage you're most likely referring to the 6 foot 6 inch rule. At 6 feet it looks flawless but at 6 inches you can see it's true construction. Which also applies to reproductions and repairs of real antiques.
If you ever get the chance there is a great episode in the first season of Lovejoy with Ian McShane that is all about a mystical pair of Durs flintlock. If you read the book version it goes into some detail about dueling. Both are the tv program and the book are called The "Judas Pair"
The prop version of the Spanish culture of "this will do just fine". And guess what, they do just fine for what they are meant for. As few as needed moving parts, all cast. You won't get the "cling clang" or "clap clap" of a working replica, but for the price, you can run on the background with one of these clenched on your hands for as many hours, as harsh environment as you get, and no one will ever make the difference.
All that work to hide the grain ends of plywood, but then you left them on the edges where you cut the box open so that when the box is opened my eyes are immediately drawn to the bands of plywood. A bit of adhesive veneer strips, frequently used on the edges of furniture, would've hidden that. But I realize this is just theater quality you're going for.
Nice build, wondering if you ever take your uberti replicas and actually fire them ? I love black powder arms they are a blast to shoot... Lol no pun intended 😂
if you touch that water with ur bare finger is it deadly or is it like no current in it? i always wondered after seeing people do those stuff. looks dangerous atleast:P
Out of all the complex builds and repairs that Adam does on this channel, I love nothing more than watching him make a freaking box lol.
Right???!!!
Yeah. It reminds me of the box for the Blade Runner gun, which was the first of Adam’s videos I watched. Was definitely a factor in getting me to start making stuff.
I love exquisite containers. Always have. From nice cardboard boxes as a child to well-made wooden boxes today.
I second that! The first ever ODB I saw, was the beaver box. And I was hooked. 😂
@@steadfasttherenowned2460Anything that’s someone’s thing. Aggie Cromwell’s bag, Yugi’s card box. All of them are amazing.
28:40 "Doesn't that look all official, n' shit?" might be one of my favorite Savage quotes ever.
Crazy how I would take a box like this totally for granted but seeing it all built gives me such an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into it
Adam's slow but inevitable transformation into a mad scientist makes me so happy.
Box builds are my favorite for some reason. Nothing beats a good box! Thanks for being such a life-long inspiration, Adam!
Watching Adam make boxes and other one day builds is what got me through the pandemic.
Beautiful result! Adam's chaotic energy is so satisfying to watch, especially as a person with ADHD and a penchant for making things.

5:37 Yes, I couldn't agree more Adam, well said.
Great build and rebuild! Awesome case and improved Denix guns. Thank you for sharing!
I’m always a fan of a box building video. It’s cool to watch and learn how Adam builds them.
You can tell when Adam doesn't like the way something is made by the way he says "It's fiiiiiiine. There's nothing wrong with it, it's fiiiiiiine!!"
I like that we sneeze at the same time, really gets the immersion going.
It seems i am among the masses in the sens that i also absolutely love watching Adam make boxes. I love your box builds. That looked really, really nice.
5:38 - 5:50 is peak Adam Savage.
Adams enthusiasm for every detail of everything he does on this channel inspires me

I like how Adam was super careful about not cursing in his earlier videos but now he doesn't give a... Shit. Lol
You dont seize to amaze me with all the builds and other stuff that you do been a fan since the early days of mythbusters you are all legends
Beautiful work! Absolutely fantastic. Love Uberti's work as well, my dad has a couple of their black powder revolvers, quite fun. Great video! ❤
Adam Savage building a box; peak UA-cam content. I love it.
What a build , you make it look so so easy and it is not lol , Brilliant Adam just Brilliant .
I also love your Wilton vise, that is just pure beauty.
Thank you
40 minutes of Adam building a box! Heck yes!
9:20 - 9:26 REALLY important stuff right here. Don't spend your life making a museum quality artifact that stands up to the most detailed scrutiny, when it's only ever gonna be seen from 15' away.
Box builds, the superhero of the Adam Savage universe.

Please watch the above video. This man is as genuine and genius as you are, and he resembles you a lot as well.
did not realize electroplating could be that quick, really cool. box is very nice too.

I love watch Adam making boxes.
Anyone know the name of the mechanical pencil he's using at 31:33 ?
Muy entretenido el vídeo Adam la caja para las pistolas quedó realmente genial 👍👍👌

that's why there were burn marks at the end of every cut

15:13 you should get a 90 degree attachment for that mill. Would make operations like that soo much more easier.
I own one of those Denix pistols, in silver (more like gunmetal). They are comfortingly heavy.
I want to do the same thing Adam is doing here but with the dueling pistols from the 4th John Wick movie.

Hey Adam. Hoping to see some drama over the Loki Time Radiation space suit. Seems like they made it specifically for you.
Beveled edges I assume you mean something you could also do with the miter box and a coping saw?
I'd love to know if anyone recognizes that tape measure with the chartruese on black color scheme. Its super easy to read and I want one for my shop.
I’m more interested in the presentation case than the pistols….
I have two matching Kentucky pistols that need a great case..
There's just something about stained wood lined with green pool table felt that warms the cockles!
I'm putting a TV in my space so I can watch and listen to Adam as I work on my projects lol
"Doesn't that look all official and shit." - Adam Savage 😂👍
Damn Adam, those went from Dollar Tree to the Smithsonian.
Box builds are the best.
GOD Bless you, Adam. (For the sneeze)
I have to ask, but have you ever challenged anyone to a duel with these pistols?
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Beautiful case
Lovely! General Trelaine (Retired) would be thrilled!
Do they have the double-set trigger like the originals?
31:00 how did you attach the ‘inner rectangle’ to the box bottom?
You should do a Adam Makes a Box Series. It should be instructional too!
Nice case but I don't understand why you didn't stain the bottom. I know you'll say "it won't be seen", yet I saw it. Was saving 10 seconds really that important?
Is it weird that when Adam says a scene for the pistols I can already kind of see what it would look like?
Kind of fascinates me to see Adam just slap the lid latches on kinda wherever. I don't think I could get by without measuring them out
When do we get to see you fire those Uberti's?
I like that box construction for presentation cases for real firearms instead of the Manufacturer's modern blow-form cases they come with...or just a cardboard shipping carton.
i don't think it would hurt the seo if you guys calmed down on the exclamation points a bit.
Nice Video I love the build !
How about a project to remove the tape off the clapper board?
I have sincere issues with the fact that Adam didnt stain and lakier the whole inside. Its such a small extra effort and it would seal everything. I am aware that "nobody will know"... but I would know and it would bother me that I couldnt spare this bit of effort while doing so much effort to making something so nice.
Adam and the never ending battle with his hair
Need this for some TOS phasers.
And they work!!
I’m not sure why, but I’m surprised he works in inches rather than the more precise and simple to use millimeters. Great build.
As to the boxes appearance on stage you're most likely referring to the 6 foot 6 inch rule. At 6 feet it looks flawless but at 6 inches you can see it's true construction. Which also applies to reproductions and repairs of real antiques.

5:46 the senile slipped out for a moment there ahahaha
21:30 Bless You!
As a mentor in theatrical design of mine used to say, "From a distance, it'll look far away."
21:28 “God bless you”
So... Adam... Was that electroplating done with A/C or D/C??? Was there enough salsa in your solution?
need some powder kegs for the compartments
great little build Adam
why not use solid lumber instead of ply?
I would love to see you replicate the 3 dueling pistol sets with boxes in the movie The Skulls

What is the name of Adams savage watches on his wrist
Cheers!!
Woah! Loving the hair! I thought it was another Jim Henson episode 😂
Nice build, wondering if you ever take your uberti replicas and actually fire them ? I love black powder arms they are a blast to shoot... Lol no pun intended 😂
Seems like the corner covers should be on the bottom too.
if you touch that water with ur bare finger is it deadly or is it like no current in it? i always wondered after seeing people do those stuff. looks dangerous atleast:P
It’s 5 volts. You have to try really hard to hurt yourself with that.
Lionel trains use higher voltage than that.
That denix looks like what you used to get at disnyland :) down to the rattle haha
Does anyone know what the tool is at 16:53 ? Thanks
Cool build I love it.
