#hurricane #rvlife #RV
Definitely would not stay in an RV or even a typical house anymore. I’m from Terrebonne Parish, LA and we never left for hurricanes. We made the right choice and evac’d to Houston last year for Ida. Our house, like most, was damaged but the loss of power, fuel, food/water and supplies was worse. The storm was terrible and people who stayed regretted it. Even if you survive the storm, the area will be without goods and services so I say everyone should play is safe and evacuate. You can replace things but you can’t replace people!! I hope the best for everyone and y’all stay safe!!
Never 😂 have you heard about the winds and flooding from the tides that hurricane Ian is bringing
Nope, I would be enjoying the journey somewhere else.
UA-cam RV channel Prepper Wayne lost everything when hurricane Michael (cat 5) hit Panama City, FL just north of you about four years ago.
This is a good example of why it is important to keep current with your equipment maintenence so you can leave on short notice if needed.
When you here a Hurricane is coming a week ahead. Get the hell out of there. I am from La and you don’t play game are try to make you video better by being crazy,
I ended up in my 5th wheeler 2 years ago in the Fort Myers area. There was a Tropical Storm coming but it ramped up to a cat 1 when it hit us. Our 5th wheeler went up with a big gust of wind and slammed back down. We now own a park model in the same area. We are heading out right now! (Sunday) I will not stay in anything not hurricane rated ever again!
my brother was in Lehigh acres and rode out Irma because he was going to try to protect his house and had no money to run anyway. His house has stood up to many big hurricanes. Concrete block with extra reinforcement- built over code standards to rebar and tiedowns. House did great, he lost his yard shed. Never stay in anything mobile. Stay safe.
Good luck and stay safe! We are hunkering down just outside Tampa in our home.
So sorry. Ft Myers is pretty much gone . Our friends lost their house and business. 😢
I like your theory of, “Just go now.” Things are only going to get worse. I would do the same thing. Safe travels and hope you and your wife find a safe place for your RV and yourselves!
He is heading to SC by the time this storm gets there it will only be a depression and no big deal. Now the next storm might be a bigger deal there, but that one is just birthing out in the Atlantic.
Native Floridian here, prayers y'all find a safe place to ride this out. Glad you brought up a new inflater. That's the one thing I myself forgot.
What is the inflator thing about?
I lived in Delaware-been through to many Hurricanes. Glad you did all the prep-I hope other RV'ers are watching, listening, following! You are doing the absolute right thing-Get the Heck out of Dodge! Be safe, God's speed.
I'M IN DELAWARE NOWS AND IT'S BEEN RAINING FOR ABOUT A WEEK NOW AND IT'S REALLY KILLING ME !! I HAVES FELT IT 3 DAYS BEFORE IT MOVED UP THIS WAY & IT SEEMS LIKE IT'S STUCK HERES NOWS
You are making a very smart move. No reason to be in danger if you don’t have too. Safe travels
I just drove down I95 from Richmond,VA to SC. I saw about 500 RVs heading Northbound and assuming from Florida? I also drive down with a caravan of Builders Services pulling lots of RVs for the employees and lots of other communications RV trailers, insurance trailers, food trucks, water trucks, and gas trucks heading southbound to Florida. A lot of people heading that way to help in the aftermath! Brought a tear to my eye when I realized the gravity of what I was seeing and praying for all those affected by this storm.❤️🙏
You probably made my dads whole day!! Thank you for taking the time to talk to him!!
Great chatting with him, what are they planning to do?
Kelly Griffin I hope your family is OK.
I got the impression it was the other way around.
I worked through the 2004 Charlie Francis and Ivan, was working as a mechanic and worked 24 hrs as on-site mechanic for the police and fire deptartments, in 22 days went through 3 hurricanes, took the roof off half my house, ended putting on a new one for 400 less than deductable, set up my camp kitchen in the shop and fed quite few for the guys towing big diesel generators to keep the lift stations for the sewer departtment operational
Be safe out there and keep us updated. Prayers with you 🙏🙏🙏
Glad you are doing the smart thing Tom! I hope you find a good spot to stay and travel safe.
We are all with ya , stay safe ..watching from Vancouver BC CANADA
Good decision to leave when you did, Tom! Part of being prepared is having the skill to make timely decisions in the face of known threats. I grew up in SC where we have seen our fair share of bad weather. Stay safe and good luck!
I lived in North Florida in 92 when Andrew hit Homestead. I would NEVER wait out a hurricane in an RV!! Be safe!
Safe travels, you did the right thing
Always better to be safe than sorry. Get out before the roads are jammed!
Glad to hear you are safe.
Glad to hear you are staying safe Tom. Hope others are doing the same.
Great call and Safe travels.
Wise decision to get a head start! I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. When a big storm approaches, we make reservation 3 days b4 landfall, board up the house, load up the truck and head to the inland destination. Bottom line, life is precious, stuff can be replaced. Safe travels.
Thank you for all the information on what’s going on so people will get ahead of the trouble coming. Keep up the great videos. 👍
Thank you! Will do!
I road out a Hurricane 1 in Kingston, Jamaica (work trip). Being on shore in a hotel built for that, we were evacuated from the job site. I agree with you, get out and now ahead of the rat race. If it lessens to a tropical storm and you left when not needed, you can always come back. Not worth chancing it in an RV. Load up and go!
You were smart to get out early. I live in the New Orleans area and we are all too familiar with sitting on the interstate in bumper to bumper traffic-the car filled to the brim with kids and pets and “stuff” and taking 11+ hours to get what would normally take 2 hours. Good luck and safe travels!
Good thing you got out! Be safe.
Smart move! So glad you’re safe!
Stay safe guys!
Good choice to get out of that area. We live in Lake Placid Fl (central Fl) we are preparing our home and we put our airstream in inside storage. Enjoyed watching your video.
You are smart. I agree once is all it takes. Be safe!
Safe travels!
Smart move leaving early! If we were full time and in Florida we would leave as well. We live in Sarasota County in Florida, we have been prepping our home for Ian. We also have a Stryker 5th wheel toy hauler that we also have prepped for the storm. We are lucky to be able to keep it on our own property and we have an RV carport. Stay safe.
I grew up in hurricane country & have lived in tornado alley & now earthquake country. So glad you're heeding the warnings. Head for central TX. You should be safest in that area. Stay away from the east coast in case Ian swings back around to the W or moves up parallel to the eastern seaboard.
Safe travels.
Thanks so much Jane!
Stay safe, Tom.
I just stumbled on your channel, probably because you mentioned the potential hurricane, plus I follow several RVers and van dwellers. We have been in the Tampa Bay area for many years now, and don't get real excited about the storms much anymore. If you haven't already left the area, I would suggest heading to Juniper Springs to ride out the storm. It has a beautiful camping area, and should be far enough inland to miss the worst of the storm. Your decision to leave the area early is probably good as waiting until everyone is leaving always causes severe traffic issues, and sometimes gas shortages. Good luck out there!
Glad to see you guys are good. We were just a few sites up from you and I think we left the same day you did. Be safe
Been through many hurricanes Tom. They are not any fun at all. Hope you found a place to lock it down at. Stay safe love all the videos great info.
Praying for you brother for both you and your family
As fulltimers for over 5 years, i'm surprised you don't have a water filtration system and keep stocked up on propane. We always keep extra propane, diesel fuel, gasoline for the generator and we have a water filtration system as well as emergency food supplies just for these types of emergencies. There is absolutely nothing worse than standing on lines for supplies and fighting over bottled water and toilet paper. The answer to your question regarding staying through a hurricane? Absolutely not! We are in Texas and we are watching this hurricane to make certain it does not suddenly head west. We practice "pulling stakes" in less than 30 minutes packing everything up to as fast as 15 minutes leaving items behind in a serious emergency. i follow these damned hurricanes several times a day. Stay ahead of this thing by heading inland at least 3 hours. Please get ahead of the mad rush to get out! Good luck and safe travels. Scott & Cherryl.
He headed North and East yesterday in this rare case it is a good plan as like you said this one could swing west. If I were him, I would have either headed due North to Atlanta where it will be only a Tropical storm but most likely a depression. He could have also headed SE and gotten East of Kissimmee, but his plan was a good one. There is another one birthing off the coast of Africa. Looks like our Hurricane season is starting to ramp up this year. I am in Atlanta, so I don't have to ever worry as I am high enough up that I don't flood.
@@RiverWoods111 i can't dictate to anyone where is best, but i would have gone away from the trajectory of this. Northwest, but then hurricanes are unpredictable. So all i can add is to hope everything turns out OK for them.
You are smart getting out! I was born in south Florida, me and my family went through hurricane Andrew in Homestead and we had a concrete home and it distroy it. I have also been through tafones in the pacific (Japan)
Excellent decision!! Leave before all the madness!! I know what is been in a Hurricane… I’m from PR 🇵🇷!! Good luck!!
Saw you were in Winter Qtrs Manatee. We really love visiting that area. We are currently in Kissimmee and are heading to South Florida to avoid Ian. Enjoy your trip!
Tom your doing right by getting out early, why wait until the last minute. Take care and I’m sending up prayers for you.
Thanks so much Linda!
Better safe than sorry. Good luck!
Be safe! Bradenton is our home town, we just left to full time 3 weeks ago! Our oldest daughter and family and friends are still there!
Be safe Tom.
There is a nice state campground just outside Charleston that we had stayed at a couple years ago. It is called James Island County Park. Stay safe!
smart getting out ahead of it
Stay safe out there
Hey Tom glad you are enjoying our area....and yes you made the right choice to leave. We are preparing to ride out the storm in our brick house in East Manatee county. Next time your in the area we need to show y'all around. Lol. And FYI for future reference - we often get Hurricanes here the last week of Sept!
Wise move Tom, been through a few and it's nothing worth staying around for. The real problems start after the hurricane and you can be stranded for weeks.
I was heading back to NC from NY and when Florence was coming instead of heading to NC I headed west to KY and it changed course! I headed north from there and ended up in Florence Indiana when the remnants hit there..
Then I headed towards FL and Michael came thru! What a year that was
Glad to hear you bugged out of Dodge while the gittin' was good! Emergency and contingency plans should always be made for any eventuality you may run into. Early warning like you got is so important, especially in this day, and age. We were visiting my Great Aunt in Key Biscayne back in 1966 when Alma went through the area. She wasn't worried, despite 90 MPH winds, and the water about 4 feet under her house (which was on pilings) was creeping ever closer, but never came in, thank goodness! While the house pitched and swayed, it held together after being all buttoned up. Still scarier than hell when I was a youngster! Safe, and hoppy travels from The Boondocking Brewer™!
Wow, thanks for sharing that Michel!
Prayers. God Bless.
Oh no! And you guys inspired me to make videos! I'm in FL too, at Flamingo, the end of the Everglades! Right on the Florida Bay! I spoke to NPS today, Here, because the stom is going to the west, they are anticipating wind (but not as bad as they thought) and a possible storm surge. if that happened, i would go to long pine key or Homestead Racetrack.
In theory, the yare saying go east and south or northeast to avoid. be safe and check in soon!
THANK YOU BOTH!
Stay safe!!
Stay safe, smart move getting out of Florida.
We are just a tad north of Clearwater area, 1 1/2 miles from the coast. Also we are one week away from putting our home on the market & getting our dream toy hauler. I thought when I saw reports...you've gotta be kidding me! Praying/hoping you & everyone a safe journey during these times!
We are on Amelia Island on the other side. We too are trying to get our home on the market this month. We can't believe it either! We've been through many over the years so will say a prayer for you.... I think you will be closer. Be safe!
Hoping all goes well for you and your family
watching the 2nd half on sept 26. my company made all the RVers at Flamingo, FL had to evacuate. We went an hour north-east to Florida City, FL. All good here! HOPE YOU ARE OK!
Great idea to get out early. Stay safe kids. I am headed to Tampa in Feb to get out of Minnesota winter
God bless you, you have the right idea, the best idea, roll out good buddy
good call
You were right in my backyard at Winter Quarters in Bradenton. I thought I recognized it. We are in Tennessee right now with our camper watching the news closely as we didn’t do anything to our house before we left. We’ve had this trip planned for months and left before we knew it was coming our way. I hope you got out safely and stay safe during this storm.
You are very smart to leave early with an RV! We live a bit south east of Tampa but we have a solid house and pretty well prepared. We camp all over Florida and I would head to our home or North now! Be safe! First time on your channel! 🥰🙏💕
Thanks so much Jill! You guys take care and be safe as well!
I live in the Greater Houston, TX area. Hurricanes are not something to mess with. I've lived through/evacuated for several. Katrina, Ike, Harvey, and a couple others I can't remember their names. Katrina we got stuck in all the traffic trying to get out of Houston, got over to Hwy 59 then slept in a church parking lot after sitting in traffic for very long time. My Dad realized there was a country road leading East, so that is how we finally got out of all of that traffic mess. We ended up in Shreveport. For Ike I stayed with family friends and then Harvey we stayed at our house because we move NW of Houston and we felt safe staying here because we are far enough from the coast flooding wasn't a concern for our area. Better safe than sorry when it comes to hurricanes for sure.
This is sound advise for any disaster that may come!
I have been several hurricanes, move out early. Big points: surge is important water may increase 12-15 ft and longer you wait people tend to panic at later times which cause more problems.
Your doing the right thing. We’re in colorado right now but heading that way soon. Hopefully the hurricane season will be over by the time we get down that way. You should invest in a viair compressor
Some coastal areas will not allow RV to evacuate during the mandatory evacuation order within so many hours of land fall. High winds will come in before land fall causing issues on the highways.
I'm up in Jacksonville, Fl, since 1990. We've never ridden out anything higher than a cat 1. If I was in an RV I'd be out at 60-70+ mph winds.
Get out of Florida ASAP!! This hurricane is massive and roads will be crammed if anyone waits..better be safe than sorry.. 🙏to all in Ian's path.. stay safe!!
I was staying at Stagecoach in St Augustine when they declared evacuation and I had no choice but to leave. The park closed down. I finally found a place west of Tallahassee and finally now in Tampa.
Head due west toward TX I-10W
You’re early! way to go. do not go north of Florida it could just follow you. 😅personal experience
The whole time I watch this video I'm thinking - start driving NOW!
Indeed, that's my thoughts exactly. The time to get out is when everyone else is fighting over water and toilet paper. 3 hours of solid open road driving can afford all y'all as much supplies as you want.
Exactly my thoughts! Love to watch you guys, but now is the time for less talking and more driving😊. Safe travels and god bless
Have our fifth wheel in our storage yard up here in St. Augustine. We live here so will be riding out things in our sticks and bricks like normal. Hoping all we get is a bunch of wind and rain from the outward bands like usual. This is our first hurricane with being RV owners. Fingers crossed the RV stays put and rides things out with minimal damage.
Head out and stay safe!
Come outside of Austin Tx. Bastrop, Lockhart , Buda . It's quiet here and weather is nice right now . If you're looking for an out of State place to ride it out. Lee, from TX. 🤠 🙏
I feel for you Tom, what a frightening moment. Glad to see you getting out of there. I was wondering what kind of navigation system do you use for the momentum
Never wait to prepare !! If you wait good chance you won’t get all you need. Be safe man.
Literally my family and I are leaving Florida to evacuate and we also put sandbags in front of our doors before we left so I hope things go well and hope everyone safe
Good luck
Stay safe.
Up here in Nova Scotia, we feel your pain. We didn’t do too bad but our daughter’s school took a pretty good hit.
Sorry I didn’t catch this sooner. I’m currently staying near Ocala in a 32’ Class A. My car was fully packed just in case Ian’s path changed. Need to get baseplate installed on newer 🚙 so unfortunately fully insured rv might have to be left behind. Hoping for the best and praying for all those in direct path of horror. Curious to see where y’all hunkered down as I continue to watch. 🦩🌪 🚌
I just moved back to GA from Tampa because of hurricanes. It’s also tornadoes that spin up. So much goes on. Definitely, you guys need to leave asap!!
Stay safe, you are smart not to be caught in this storm.
We just spent the week in orange Beach Alabama. We stayed at sun outdoors it is very nice and I would highly recommend it
My sister and her family live in Palm Beach County and she has been through a number of hurricanes and her stories are so scary. I’ll stay in Kentucky.
Be safe Tom! Yeah, I'd hate to leave late and be forced to spend the hurricane stuck on the interstate!
Thanks Scott! Yes, that was a big concern!
Glad you were able to get out and are currently safe! What GPS are you using? I like the "RV safe" routing on the screen.
There’s a nice state park in Eufala Alabama - Lake Point state park where we evacuated (from central Florida) to over Labor Day weekend a few years ago. Really nice small town and the park was on a lake. Water & electric with a dump station. I think it was about $20/night. There were tons of empty spaces.
We pray for the day our diesel is $4.50 a gal. Currently, in Santa Barbara, CA, it's $7.09. We wouldn't try to stay in the storm's path; we would be "Buggin' out." We're preppers already, so we've prepared to ride it out in other North Western state. 🎶On the road again 🎶
Stay safe ❤
One thing we need is RV and Tent Evacuation locations nationwide wide on website, APPS, Facebook and other social media... which lists all free or cheap locations nationwide open, closed, full or available spots... this is great for Hurricane, Fire, and flooding evacuation.
In past I can hear on news able being able to go to Atlanta or Alabama speedway fir evacuation from Florida hurricane... this year I struggle to find where I could go.
Well Tom i have lived in Florida sense 1956 so I’ve seen several storms come to Florida so yes I would haul ass north
I left Saturday and drove up to Alabama, don’t want to chance it.
Awwww, the memories. I just moved from West Palm Beach, and went through 3 hurricanes in one year, 2005. Jean, Francess and Wilma. Wilma took the top off my convertible. Being an adrenaline junkie, I rather enjoyed them.
Oh wow!
Keep posting
It made a right hook by Ft. Myers, went through the State and we got in the thick of it.
It was a pretty rough storm I stayed in my 5th wheel in Lakeland and it was for sure kinda scary it rocked a lot but pulling slides in helped a lot
Oh my gosh you’re heading for Charleston, SC. By now you’re aware 🌪Ian blew back up to a Cat 1 heading in your direction. I pray all’s safe and well up yonder.
Only the smart ones will get out early and you are smart! Be safe and god bless 🙏
