When I saw the video notification AntAutralia, I know I'll have a good time coming home from work. Another video that I will watch four or five times ...
The most disturbing thing I learned about ants. Was actually how here, in my country, some caterpillars feed on ant larvae, without being stopped by the ants themselves. The caterpillars secrete a sort of honeydew (I don't know the exact name) to please the ants outside of their nest. The ants walk all over the caterpillar, leaving their scent on it. Afterwards, masked in ant scent, it simply walks into the nest, unharmed by unsuspecting ants, and starts feeding on their larvae.
there is a type of larvae from a species of something, that uses pheromones to disguise as the queens and it just feeds on the food and larvae from the ants colony
I have been watching Ants Australia and Ant Canada and im going to be honest here Ant Canada knows his stuff but I find he doesnt give lots of informative videos like this video he does on the other hand have the voice that you could always listen to. My personal favorite though is Ant Australia cannot stop watching his videos they are great I have learnt so much stuff.
I like every ant channel but Ants Australia and Ants Canada are my favorite. Theres just something in Ants Australia's videos that made me get hooked to the channel
Its 2AM. I have a deadline. Soft whimsical music plays as a charmingly enthusiastic Australian with an adorable lisp invites me to watch his pets mercilessly rip apart their helpless victim and feed it to their ever ravenous brood. Life is good.
I don't often leave comments, but just wanted to show my appreciation for your channel! It's my favorite ant-related channel by far. The music you choose is relaxing, your narration is perfect, and the footage is fantastic. Hoping to start ant keeping this spring, and I'll be looking to your videos as guide. I'm looking forward to your next video!
I follow AntsCanada as well! But I find this channel much better for stylistic reasons. I prefer the narration and video editing here -- Ants Australia is generally more concise and doesn't do a lot of edits to create dramatic effects like AntsCanada does. Both great channels though!
dude you realise you make the best tutorials for ants on youtube. Please upload more often! Many of us are really bored of week after week of Antscanada giving up disney stories. We need more people doing real antkeeping, not a drama tv series!
Wow, you really made some new and bar-raising additions to those nests. With the dry-clay, for making it all so smooth and so on, I love the designs, and ofcource my fave is the bull ants setup ;) Where do you buy the paints you use in all thease setups, please link them if you buy from ebay or something, I love the look
Well that was a fascination half an hour, thank you for taking the time to show us your hobby. I used to be quite negative towards ants. You have introduced them in an interesting and enthusiastic way. Cheers sir.
Always when I get a notification of your channel, I love to watch your video's, they are very relaxing and at the same time interesting and usefull. keep the work going!!
Awesome video. I have a block of AAC ready to go. I love these all in ones, I’m thinking of making a small one for my desk at work so I can watch ants while I work.
Please do a natural nest because AAC is hard to find in North America and personnaly i prefer a natural nest . Your videos are really well made so keep up the great work!
Although I enjoy and love watching AntsCanada, I have to honestly say I like your content better. He does his episodes kind of like a movie while yours are more like something you would see on a nature show. Absolutely love this video and all the rest! I live in the u.s. and nuptial flight this year is finally starting. I'm very excited. Absolutely can't wait to see your next video my friend!
Can you make videos on other materials like plaster or grout? These are amazing but not many people in North America have access to AAC block. Really good video anyway!
Nathan Lewis Man I know the struggles. I crawled my way to 200 subs on an old channel. ur vids are good just dont intrude others channels with your advertisements
Awesome designs! The most disturbing thing i found out was the behavior of species formica sanguinea in relation to the Lomechusa(beetle). These ants(apparently) are so addicted to Lomechusas secretions that they tolerate them eating their brood. In case of alarm, they even tend to bring the Lomechusas brood into safety before their own(#addictants?). It feels like I will always find out something new that fascinates me about ants!
There isn't really any disturbing things about ants...I just really like them bcs it's so interesting to discover new things about them... Thanks to you Ants Australia!!! You help me like this hobby.
You made some beautiful ant worlds. I don’t keep ants myself but I nevertheless find them extremely interesting creatures. By browsing the internet and watching videos on UA-cam I’ve learned a lot of things about them that are quite remarkable. I always wondered how the first generation was fed seen the queen doesn’t leave the nest to forage. I found out that when the queen has her first larvae she feeds them with her into trophic eggs converted wing muscles. Well, that is an amazing thing to do.
Love your videos! Keep the good work up! What I find the most disturbing about ants is how they can make nests almost anywhere (even in the inside of your wall!) It's almost as if they dominate the world and we just live beside them!
honestly , i can not express how much i love your channel and how much i love you as a human being having watched this, when i first found your channel i was rather trepidatious about subscribing having started watching another similar channel in the past but having over a few weeks of watching become rather horrified from live feeding other insects on skewers to his ants to drowning them to "simulate real world condition" and so on, especially when you talk about the desert habitat and how most of the brood are still in the test tube but aslong as the ants are happy, so too are you after having seen similar videos on moving ants from one nest to another in which he uses intense lighting to "encourage" his ants to move to their new homes nevertheless the point of this is not to bitch but to praise! so; from a random stranger on the internet i love your love of ants and it actually brings a tear to my eye to see someone give this much care and attention to his charges. thank you for the love you show these creatures and thank you for the incredibly professional, informative and entertaining content.
The most disturbing thing I find about ants is how smart they are! From roads to graveyards they almost seem human somtimes which I find really quite scary😂🤭
Velppp I read you have Messor ants: I caught my very first queen a month ago, and she is a Messor capitatus. She has some larvae and eggs now. Do you think they are good for beginners like me?
Yes they are very simple to keep. I have one colony of Polygynous Messor barbarus, one of capitatus and few more barbarus queens... So, they stress very easily when there is a vibration. It's their only downside for me. Otherwise they just need seeds, some proteins and a place between 22 and 28 °C. The egg become an ant in 30-60 days. This depends of the size of the new ant, and the heating temperature. You are not force to water the nest. If you provide them a source of water they will live perfectly with it. Personally I water the nest only when there is few ants drinking in the reservoir of water. ie each 2 - 4 days. Those ants are convenient when you want to go in vacation. They can live few weeks without any care if they have enough water and food =). Voilà, ask me if you want to know something else =) ps: I advise you to keep them in an non-acrylic setup. Because this material provide very well vibrations... And that's not very good for them... For Messors I prefer Ytong for it's ability to scatter vibrations.
Velppp Thanks! I made a cork nest for them, but I think I'll make one out of AAC and put in the Messor and I'll keep the cirk nest for a Crematogaster queen.
Hey man! I have been ant keeping since December last year, and I have found out some pretty disturbing things from my observations, such as when they are feeding they use weird tentacle-like things to lap up their honey, or when the queen can get stressed enough she eats her babies :0 I love the vids PLEASE keep them up!! #aaforlife :)
Amazing video, the only thing I'd like to see in a video like this would be a general idea of the price of each set up. just to give a good idea :D Thanks for the video !
God, been a quick minute. Made this comment having no ants at all, now ive got 4 (mind you pretty young) colonies going. Funnily enough I ended up working for bunnings for just under a year too. Was good to come back and watch this again, might have to give it a whirl once my myrmecia nigriceps are in the double digits
The most disturbing things ants do I find is that honey pot ants (Myrmecocystus sp) raid enemy nests and rip the heads off other repletes and drink from it as a keg, sometimes they even drag the repletes to their nests and slowly chew through the ants head. Definitly the most disturbing thing ants do in my opinion
Such a high quality channel. I would love it if you could increase the frequency of your uploads, but *not if it affects your quality.* I honestly can see this channel having 10x as many subs as it has now
I've got two things that i was very disturbed about when I found out about it: 1. That some Ant species can have slaves (e.g. Polyergus lucidus). Hi Jordan i am raising a colony of messor barbarus ants. And the most disturbing thing that i discovered was that i saw how the queen laid eggs en the workers immediately cared for her brood. Keep up the good work man it looks amazing❤✌
Most disturbing thing I find about ants is how they act like robots that are driven for protecting and sustaining their nest at all costs, even if it means their death they'll happily throw their life away to protect the nest
This youtuber is amazing. I only recently started any keeping and I really want to make a nest like this. The only thing I have trouble with is queens and the fact the website has no stock! The most disturbing thing about ants are their tongues! I think they are tongues anyway... Anyway this video deserves way more views, comments like and bro, you deserve a million subscribers!
Troll Trolly Yeah same here, excepting buying queen ants in the same country is illegal in my area :( By the way if you haven’t heard, Ants Australia’s shop was closed down. He shared it on his Instagram, but is planning on opening it up one day
The most disturbing thing I have ever experienced with ants is the savageness of Fire ants. Once when I accidentally laid down on top of a bunch of fire ants. They pretty much stung and bite the crap out of my arm. I had dots on my arm for weeks and I have a few little scars.
The most disturbing thing I found was a full on ant war between my favorite species(fire ants and trap jaws), in which they killed anything that got close.
Loved this video, watching it for the second time to look a bit more at the beach setup, really interested in that one! Just got my first queen from Eli, just a pheidole to begin with. Anyway keep up the great work I’ll be sure to stay tuned. :)
The most disturbing thing I found out about ants is that they eat animals I thought they only ate insects edit:by animals I ment cats rabbits you know I thought they only ate like flys or cockroaches stuff like that
Aka Ventus No mate, insects are placed within the kingdom animalia, which means they are animals. Insects are arthropods, which means if insects are not aninals, then arthropods like crabs and lobsters are not animals.
The most disturbing discovery about ants that I found out was when I mixed up queens which could be mixed like yellow crazy ants They killed some queens and let some be with them Haha long live ant Australia
This is awesome, new to the channel, and finds it fascinating. I am not an ant collector, though learning about ants and other animals how they live and form gives me a lot of ideas for stories on wild animals and habitats for worldbuilding, love it.
When I saw the video notification AntAutralia, I know I'll have a good time coming home from work. Another video that I will watch four or five times ...

No one will see this lol but does the clay need to be non toxic or can it just be everyday normal clay?
Probably best to make sure it's non toxic. Don't want to risk hurting/killing your ants
It should probably be non-toxic as you don't want to hurt the ants.
Everyday clay will be fine I’m using that and it works well. How is it supposed to kill an ant anyway it’s just clay.
