  • Created this video for people that have the PTO override wire and have a upfitter switch. Even if you just have the PTO override you can still do this just wire in your own 12 volt switch to it.
    Thanks for watching if you have any questions please feel free to put them in the comment section. They will be answered within 48 hours.

    I'm a paramedic. Number 1 is my front and side emergency lights. Number 4 is my hideaways in the taillights. Number 2 is my scene/takedown light bars. And now number 3 will be my high idle

    I am going to do this with our plow truck Tuesday. So glad I came across this video. I think I have only one upfitter left.
    The 6.0 really needs the bumped idle because even with 2 batteries and 2 alternators it still cannot keep up. Not to mention it will heat up a little faster and can maintain better..
    Thank you for sharing

      6.0's in general heat up pretty fast...have no clue why you'd want one ta heat up any faster than what they do..If anything,youd want to keep it cool... I live in Midwest and I assure you it gets warm fast enough even in freezing weather...
      7.3 maybe because by nature they run far cooler...
      I own both, a 6L and (2) 7.3's... I should know

    hey Backyard, I enjoyed the video ,good job. But a little info. All Ford upfitter and pto control wiring is marked . The white plastic tags wrapped around the wiring in your video shows it. For example on the upfitter switches the tag is marked O-B AUX 4 ,that means O-B(orange with blue stripe)AUX 4(auxiliary #4 switch) . The same on the PTO wiring ,V-G PTO RPM, V-G(violet with green stripe)PTO RPM(pto rpm control wire) . Just thought that I'd mention this ,in case it could help next time . But good work .And those were just examples , not sure if they were correct for your truck or not.

    Have and 05. Need to make #3 Aux hot all the time. Not to be interrupted while cranking. Any hacks out there?? I know in the later models there's a 5 amp fuse to be relocated for the two bigger 40 amp switches. Anything like that for an 05?

    Wild guess here, but I think those letters to the left of the wire names are the colors themselves? O-Y is Orange-Yellow. O-BK is Orange-Black, etc.?

    The high idle is really to have more power to run a external air compressor or hydraulic pump while stationary.

    • @BackyardDIY-Zachary
      @BackyardDIY-Zachary  6 років тому +2

      I agree yes that's a reason for high idle but not the only. I was on a local fd for 12 years we had some the high idle was for the pump circulation in winter so prevent freezing on a non fire scene. Then other trucks on that department we used high idle exclusively to run all the emergency lights, basically to bump up the alternator out put. There's tons of uses for it that's why I figured this was a good video to show.

      Also to prevent wet stacking in the cylinders. Not just for the PTO use.

    • @kylesonsalla7620
      @kylesonsalla7620 2 роки тому

      The BCP wire is literally not meant for PTO use at all. Battery Charge Protect will bump base idle up to 1200 RPM, but run all the way up to 2400 RPM to keep charging up for high electrical load, weather that's jump starting, using lots of lights, big stereo, etc

      Shouldn't be I was working on the same truck as yours with the only difference being mine was automatic trans but that shouldn't matter.
      Is your parking break working??
      Are you getting power to your up fitter switches?

    • @gihciyfciyv
      @gihciyfciyv 6 років тому

      @@BackyardDIY-Zachary switches have power and parking break is working the light turns on and nothing happens? Do I knead to have my parking lights on as well?

    • @BackyardDIY-Zachary
      @BackyardDIY-Zachary  6 років тому

      @@gihciyfciyv no you shouldn't have to have the lights on. Check the wire under the dash that's for the pto power. Check that with test light with the parking break on and then check it with it off. You should only have power when you activate the parking break.
      Maybe the fuse for the switch, there's a fuse inside and outside the can if i remember correctly.
      If that doesn't fix it then I'm sorry I really don't know.

      Wire to to solid orange wire. All the wires have a color code assigned by the tape tabs. You want to use PTO, it’s the solid orange tab.

    the relays are clicking on all 41234 the two heavy-duty ones seem to work but the two smaller ones for some reason have quit but all the relays are working but there's no power to the end of wires. I'm just wondering if there's a fuse inside the switch itself but it lights up when turned on

      Fuses 1 2 3 and 4 to the fuses are in the battery junction box for the 30 amps and the other two are in the fuse panel by the kick panel

      Backyard DIY - Zachary&Erica your good but I checked all my wires and it still doesn’t work do you think it has anything to do with my clock spring being out or the fact that it’s tuned

    • @BackyardDIY-Zachary
      @BackyardDIY-Zachary  6 років тому

      Bailey Moore: Hmmm not sure what that's about, hard to try to diagnose without being able to test light wires. Does your e brake light come on when you press it down? If so then I would assume it is your programmer, but I can't say for sure. If not then your switch for the e brake isn't working. Check the fuse for your up fitter switch. If none of that helps I'm sorry :(
      Maybe join a Powerstroke group on FB I'm on there and often ask questions when I can't figure something out.
      Sorry I can't be of more help, thanks for watching. Hopefully this helps.

    • @tylerw1418

      Greg Roberts keeps your engine from cooling down to far and not getting proper combustion. Look up wet stacking also. Lastly Kees your batteries charged properly if your idling for a while or jumping a car or using the power take off.
