Thank you for taking us on this journey with you and Barney. I look forward to seeing your homestead grow and the plans you have for the future. As for the here and now, your videos are wonderful. If you want to spin around with the camera, then keep doing it, and don’t let anyone persuade you otherwise. You’re living your life the way you want to, happy, joyous and carefree. I only wish it was infectious, as we need more people like you.
@@looselywild2679Here is a tip Lucy to help you move the camera more slowly when panning a view. Hold the camera near to your head and move it whilst you move your head to view the surroundings. Then after a few tries you will see in edit the difference and then just remember how to do it. I have taken a lot of pan photo panorama shots and video pans and I was not going to comment on this as it did not upset me.
In a garden kissed by morning light, A little bee takes to the flight, With wings of gold and heart so bold, She dances through blooms, her story unfolds. Among the petals, she flits with glee, A symphony sung by the buzzing bee, Each flower a note in her sweet, wild song, In the tapestry of life, she feels she belongs. The world is vast, with skies so wide, No cage can hold her, no need to hide, Through fragrant meadows and sunlit trees, She finds her freedom in the warm summer breeze. With every nectar drop she gathers with care, She weaves a magic, spreading love everywhere, Pollinating dreams in the soft morning dew, Her journey a canvas, painted anew. So here’s to the bee, so vibrant and free, A symbol of life’s sweet harmony, In every flutter, in every flight, She shows us the beauty of chasing the light.
Please don’t move the camera! Let your objects, the things you’re filming, do the moving. I get a bit seasick from all that camera swinging. A bit of stillness will give much better videos. PS Thank you for sharing your adventures and congratulations. So glad you’re back in Portugal. There is another UA-camr in your area near Monsanto, Suzie from Dream Life Portugal! Perhaps you could get in touch with her and video your meeting?
Hello 🙂 so nice to see you both. A little Tipp for planting the trees.. Avocado need lots of water and the walnut needs to be planted a bid seperat from the rest.. walnut trees make the ground around them sour.. so it could be that the other trees will not grow next to it or will die with time. You dont need that. Good luck with the trees.. and its funny how fast nature qill come, when there is a pond ❤ see you soon.
I can see you ending up with 500 stray dogs n cats, and your be like, oh bloody heck nooo, but you'll end up taking on them all, we can all feel your love for barn, your content is amazing, so come along on with it, 😊
Awesome rocks and castle, makes the inner child want to play and climb there just like barney, remember you can collect the seeds from fruit you've eaten and plant them and any luck when you leave and come back you'll have little baby tree's.
I should be attempting to sleep, but I can't cos I don't want to, I'm really enjoying your videos, barns facial expressions make me smile, you produce brilliant content, so thanks,,,
I was thinking the exact same about Suzi living there. When you were showing the village below i was wondering what house was hers lol. Love watching her Vlogs every Sunday, from her house she looks up at Monsanto. Hope your trees grow well xxxx
Nice selection of trees. Think about adding some cork oaks, which do very in Portugal and offer shade and shelter. I'd suggest you give plenty of space for the larger ones such as walnut and chestnut, they'll get big. Have you considered mulching each one with lots of scrap cardboard held down with stones? That will help retain moisture and control competing grass and weeds, and help them get established. It's particularly valuable if you can't be there as often as you'd like. Supermarkets may well have a free cardboard box skip you can help yourself from.
Lovely castle and amazing views but I was so scared Barney would fall, but you have trained him so well Lucy you just had to make a small noise and he moved. Love all the trees, how wonderful. The cuddle you were having with Barney at the end of the video, made me think of having morning cuddles with my dog Buddy, I miss them so much x
Your videos have such a lovely vibe. I like your happy go lucky attitude. I hope all goes well for you. You may need to get someone to water those trees in summer. I live in a wet/dry tropic in Oz and the nursing plants through a dry season is a tough gig.
Hi just a thought,if you haven't already planted your trees, maybe think about putting a 30mm tube next to the roots so the water gets down there, tube like water waste for a sink ? And put some sponges in the bottom to hold the water aswell.
G'day.. yea spun me our too...plant all your trees around the pond...except the chestnut...and know they drop lots of nuts so best to give it its own spot away. Hugs for Barney
Contrary to what folk in the UK think it actually does get cold even on the southern coast of Portugal and Spain. Winter clothing required as per the UK.
Two things.... 1. You would be a perfect children's presenter - well but softly spoken and deliver yourself in a trusting and honest way! 2. You need to share your recipes and 'how to' put your dishes together look lovely - being a guy living alone with his princess (pup) would appreciate the ideas and methods! also, Barneys food - same there!!
Had to shut my eyes when you were spinning the camera round up there and I'm not afraid of heights 😂. Chestnut trees can eventually get pretty big depending on the variety 100 ft tall with a big canopy and live for 700+ years. I've got several tree's in my garden that have gotten way bigger than i was expecting 🤦🏼. Thanks for the vid.
I worked in Ilkley Hall for a while ( ex home of Jilly Cooper ), we had an Almond tree but I was the only person ever gathering any. They tasted great !
I love watching your videos about your land and I am looking forward to see what you are going to do with it.. I bought some land in southern Spain about three years ago, about the same size as yours and planted lots of trees. The difficult thing for me has been keeping them watered during the hot summer months when i am not in Spain. I get a friend to water them and to strim the grass when it gets long. I planted an avocado tree last spring the same as yours, and i think i will have to put some fleece around it for the winter because it does get cold here. Below 5 degress and i think they suffer.
Great video and the castle and views was very cool, Barney did give me heart failure near the edge as I've got a Lab who can trip over walking on a smooth wooden floor. I hope you didn't plant the trees under any power lines as the power company has right of access to clear trees and undergrowth under the lines and they will just cut them down if they think they are to big. I don't think they even need to tell when they are going to do it either, they just crack on.
I'm really enjoying your videos, one day I want to end up off grid but still haven't decided where that'll be. I wonder if the edible part of the Sweet Gum tree isn't a fruit or seed/nut but a syrup? It has amazing autumn colours and maple shape leaves. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck maybe it's a duck? Of course I know nothing about trees but just a thought 🙂
Good selection of trees and the actual best time to plant them with the rainy season approaching. I would have also bought some compost to add to each tree to encourage root growth into the existing soil.
great tree selection especially the avo! just a heads up, I think thats a horse chestnut which wouldnt be edible but give you great concers for concer fights :)
With avocado trees you sometimes need male and female. Hass is Type A so can be self fertile. They still benefit from a Type B nearby. It also depends on day and night temperatures. I only know about where I live in Australia. Just ask the nursery.
Love the vlog, I think you are near Frankie of grid, Project Portugal and Sunny saudade project. The woodlands would give you good advice and they all use markets for plant plugs and stuff. Talk the streets is amazing for some Portuguese language bits and did a great episode on when to pronounce a as sh in a word. Just keep having fun, life is too short. We are in Chaves at the moment but back to Southern blighty on the last sailing for the year. Xx

It´s probably the best time to get and plant the trees,, gives them the most time to establish themself before it gets dry again,, summer is brutal!! They might still need to be watered a little June-September next year. Some sort of a watering system,, or someone that will stop by... Barney,, and those heights!! You and Barney might be okay,, but thousands of people on the other side of the screen has no more fingernails....
Ooh i bought a fig tree and a blackberry bush! I was going to grab a blackberry cutting from a bush but it was there for a fiver so i nabbed it. Also i really like the gum tree, the leaves look similar to a maple leaf?? 🍁 Im wondering if they could be related maybe?? Idk

It's a wonderful place, Monsanto castle, Castel Monsanto. Castel is Portuguese for Castle, like the near by Castelo Branco , or white castle in English. On my way over on Friday to do the last bits of prep for my permanent move in January. You could spend a lifetime in Portugal and not see everything, but I'm going to give it a go. Enjoy the freedom.

Scared with Barney at the castle no lead on😮But beautiful views
In a garden kissed by morning light,
A little bee takes to the flight,
With wings of gold and heart so bold,
She dances through blooms, her story unfolds.
Among the petals, she flits with glee,
A symphony sung by the buzzing bee,
Each flower a note in her sweet, wild song,
In the tapestry of life, she feels she belongs.
The world is vast, with skies so wide,
No cage can hold her, no need to hide,
Through fragrant meadows and sunlit trees,
She finds her freedom in the warm summer breeze.
With every nectar drop she gathers with care,
She weaves a magic, spreading love everywhere,
Pollinating dreams in the soft morning dew,
Her journey a canvas, painted anew.
So here’s to the bee, so vibrant and free,
A symbol of life’s sweet harmony,
In every flutter, in every flight,
She shows us the beauty of chasing the light.
What's the title of this lovely poem?

Hi Lucy , I have a sweet gum tree right outside my window which looks just like the picture you showed, it’s non common name is liquid amber ❤
I'm frightened I'm going to fall off and I'm laying on my Sofa " Pheeewwwwwwww that is an Amazing view.
Old Barney boy has no fear, I think I was showing it on his behalf 😲. Fantastic views, now to climb down off the sofa 😉. Thanks you for sharing.
