Julian You took a truck load of scrap wood You reclaimed it all You finished with a bench top full of quality chestnut timber You manufactured custom window frames for reclaimed windows Cut out fridge box with help strengthening the apertures Installed your units with the help of Pauline Then finished it all off perfectly Such skills don’t come easy Then at the end you add a disclaimer You are a real professional any problems you may have You sort out I’m sure you’ll get no criticism or complaints on these fantastic jobs you have done Well done guys
Julian did a super job. Windows looked lovely but hard work too. Well done!! Pauline added a lot of help too, but I’m impressed with the hard work done. I don’t think any professional dare to criticise your work, it was immense and very hard. You can come and put in windows anytime at my house Julian trust you to do an awesome job.
Everyone will have a different opinion on how to do it, But if you do the best you can do and are happy with the end result then you've done a good job!
2nd year fine furniture maker student here but as part of our course we installed windows under the guidance of a master window fitter and I think you did pretty well considering the lumber you have and the lack of power. I would say that the only big mistake, and maybe you have a reason for not doing it, but usually we would make sure there is some moisture control, like a damp proof membrane between where the wall is and where the window frame is seated. Moisture would be my main concern, but your plan for window frame looks pretty good, in the case of windows, the old, traditional designs seem a little over engineered but there is usually a reason for all the weird little details they have. Most importantly, you were constantly using protective equipment, ear protection, facemask when appropriate, which to me is usually the mark of a professional and is sometimes missing in project kamp videos.
You need to put a chain on the other side of that window too. A little bit of harsh wind with it open or simply lowering it roughly too often will eventually cause issues if it's only supported on one side
Love this! If it’s not too late, I’d suggest you use some of your many eucalyptus stalks for cladding the outside of the fridge box. It would help it blend in with the outside
@@DrBoobY2K No, the window opens outwards, with the hinge on the top the window pushes out from the bottom, with this method you could put a catch with a lever to keep the window open for fresh air. In any case if it rains just close the window.
Consider that heat rises and with the hinges on the bottom the top will fully vent hot interior air. That is the reason why you have windows that open.
I'm looking at you from sunny Bulgaria and you're doing very well. And the frames are perfect. I would use a milling machine to make them and assemble them in a similar way. Well done and good luck.🧐
Man I think you did a cracking job making and placing these window frames and windows ! Of course there will be a huge amount of varia in solutions but you did it ! the only critic can be the rain, if the water will enter your job has failed, but I will bet my savings it won't 🌟
As a master museum quality cabinet maker (you can literally find my work in the Smithsonian Museum) it was great to see the quality work being done here. Sure there are a few things I would have done differently but more as a matter of personal preferences and not of right or wrong. One thing I was very glad to see but you did not mention was the drip edge on the window sill. It would be of service to explain to your viewers why it is so important as followers of you channel might miss that detail in their projects. One tip I might suggest is when you don't have a saw capable of doing the cut you needed as with the angle on the window sill, learn how to make a sled for the plainer so you can easily make any angle you need, smoothed to perfection. Keep up the good work!
If it keeps the weather out, and it fits, it's good! It looks good. Well done! I've never seen an assembly of layers of wood like this for a frame before, I suppose it may be bit like factory composite construction, at least in theory? ie hopefully the benefits of one piece of wood resisting another wanting to warp etc - plus, an original way to tackle rebates and mouldings.
The idea of a windmill has been proposed many times, but isn't feasible (the size you'd need for it to be worth the effort and noise pollution would make it way too expensive). But have you considered a generator bike (or set of them)? On rainy days, especially when it's also colder than usual, having some people casually chat while pedalling a bike and driving an axle could generate a few hundred watts of power, not enough to solve the issue entirely but enough to at least keep the batteries charging. An average adult human can produce around 100-150W continuously, a fit person can do up to 300W, at a pace that can be kept up for about an hour (so just casual moving, not sprinting). Having the bikes there with a meter above it showing how badly power is needed would be a neat way for people to spend their idle time working out and also helping charge the batteries for the times that is necessary
Absolutely love watching Project Kamp, would love to see more episodes of multiple things happening at Kamp rather than one whole episode about the windows haha
Let me preface this by saying I love Project Kamp and will keep following them no matter what, but I feel like this video repeated itself alot and could have been like 15 minutes shorter. I ended up skipping through most of the second and third window parts up until the install because the process was the exact same as the first and I did not feel like watching that process happen three times. I also miss seeing and hearing from alot of the old faces of Project Kamp. But as ever, I love seeing all the progress made on the land and the structures. Looking forward to next week :)
Im not a professional, but feels a little bit sketchy that the windows open to the inside. I think it will be inconvenient, it will get in the way and also lose space, but overall looks good.
A lot of windows in European countries have external shutters that can be closed for sun protection but still keep the windows open so they open inwards.
When making windows, you can't approach it like furniture. Moisture, condensation and wood expansion are very important factors. I have not made windows myself, so let's just see what happens here 😊
At least it looks like they didn't seal the drip edge, that's where most people go wrong when doing windows the first time (which leads to moisture being trapped)
in this video and the last one the subtitles aren't timed well, giving us a big block of text on screen for a short time and then nothing for a while, and then a big block of text again.
Does anyone know if KAMP has provisions for young children? With all of these attractive, intelligent, passionate, and unattached young adults living communally - I have to assume that eventually there will be KAMP babies sooner rather than later. Will the parents just have to forgo returning until their children are old enough to either leave with another person, or run around on their own, or will KAMP look into expanding its community services to include some kind of child-watching when the parents are working on projects that aren't kid-safe? I'm not saying that KAMP is a non-stop sexparty or anything - but we're almost eighty years past the point where modern people (with access to birth control and modern views on sex and relationships) realized that boy hippies and girl hippies having ANY spare time while getting together to do worthwhile hippy things will inevitably result in the oldest form of community building. It's a normal reaction to the circumstances, and I am curious to see if it's being planned for.

I love project Kamp. Good people trying to be better people for the world. Thank you! ❤
Julien is a master with wood!! When he put that window into the frame, he made, I could feel his voila!!
That house will be great. It will also feel like living in an oven when the stove is burning considering that insulation is very good.
Maybe a small canopy above each window on the outside to keep direct rain off the wood.
That's what I originally thought they were doing!
Everyone will have a different opinion on how to do it, But if you do the best you can do and are happy with the end result then you've done a good job!
Beautiful job everyone! Welcome Pauline!

They are beautiful windows.
Love watching you from Northeast India 🇮🇳
Are you in that little appendix region?
Yes
Wow...Incredible! Absolutely amazing! Bravo!👏👏👏
I would have put the hinges at the top and have the window open outwards.
So when it rains it would catch and direct water into the house?

a little silicone between the 2 wooden frames would be good in case the wood shrinks
is Dave choosing the external colour scheme..? 😅
Bravo l’équipe 😊
Maybe add an external bug screens for the windows. Will need a small step to lock/unlock high window.

it shouldn't cause too much of an issue, especially since they sealed the frame, timber doesn't expand and contract too much

Why do the windows open inwards instead of outwards?
What applying silicone - push, not pull. leaves a nicer finish.
This is not fair watching window making ,after week waiting .😮
