- Hello Shiny Crafty People!!!
I recently visited a Goodwill Thrift Store in search of an inexpensive framed canvas piece and a nice bag to turn into an art piece. Boy, did I find a great canvas!!
I spent just $18 and it’s time to create something wonderful. I hope you enjoy the adventure with me!
In this video, I used the following products you might find useful:
Rotating cutting mat: amzn.to/3Wd5vyU
Woven interfacing: amzn.to/3XS2R2M
Square cutting grid: amzn.to/4ePWMtp
I am so in love with the final tote bag! This was one of those rare times that the end result was virtually exactly what I had envisioned in the store!
I hope you take a chance with making a bag from some recycled canvas, and, until next time, Stay Crafty! Bye for now!! - Наука та технологія
I'll be doing a LIVE Video next Saturday (July 13th) at 10am eastern time in the US. I hope ya'll will join me and send plenty of questions in the chat!
I would never have thought of using a canvas painting. Thanks for sharing your process.
I like how you go through the math and design process.
WOW that turned out great, I would have never thought to do this.
I love this tutorial! It demonstrates all the possibilities of what one can do with sewing skills and imagination.Thank you!
I think I’m just coming to live with you to pick your brain full of great ideas! Well done❤
@@elena3831 I’ll join you
Who knew!!! I will be looking at canvas painting now!! Great job!!
Thanks!!
Me too!!!!
ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING!!! What an imagination and it came out sooo good. I’m gobsmacked. 👏👏👏
Me too!! Lol
Ghee…THANK TIM! Now I have to go to a thrift store and buy a canvas picture like that so I can make one of these bags. 😡😤😜🥰 OMGOODNESS! The bag is amazing! SO FUN! I can’t wait to make one. ❤
Yay! I’d love to see what you come up with!!
What a great idea!! So clever. The only thing I would have done differently is to put a pocket on the inside.
Yeah, that would be a good idea!
Very interesting. When I do a tote like that, I drop in the lining and sew them together at the top with a 1/4" to 1/2" seem turned under. It's easier than pulling the material through an opening
😊
This is absolutely beautiful! Love this idea❣️
Our Goodwill stores never have sale prices anymore. Seniors only get 10% off on Thursdays--it used to be every day. They have a clearance store where they send the old merchandise to be sold by the pound. Books are often much cheaper in the store than by the pound! It's a terrible system. I once found a Jeans tote bag with my name embroidered on it, so of course, I had to buy it! I had no idea that a canvas painting could be sewn like canvas material. Duh!
They sell everything of value online on eBay now. They leave junk in the actual stores now. They are so greedy now. Stopped donating to them
I've thrifted lots of fabric (sheets, table runners, etc.) and bag parts but never considered a framed artwork. Will have to start looking! Thanks!
I am so delighted to have found your channel. It's so nice to see such new and refreshing ideas. Do keep up the great work!
I LOVE thrifting AND tote bags. 😅Never thought of doing this. Another source for thrifted straps is webbed belts. Thanks for the idea!
That’s a great idea!! I’ll have to look for those.
I really enjoy watching all your creative ideas. Also the set by set you fo all of projects. 😊
I'm so glad!
Absolutely beautiful!! I will be looking at artwork in the thrift stores now!!!!
I hope you find awesome stuff! Even if you only find smaller canvases, you can use two of them - one for each side of the bag. You might even find a cool way to create a 2-sided bag that way!
Love the repurposing into a beautiful bag❤
This is a great idea! My first thought was that sign companies may be able to print personal or copyright-free photos on canvas. My second thought was to learn to use the “posterize” feature for printing on fabric with my inkjet printer for personalized gifts. My third thought was that even two- and three-part wall decor will work just fine. Soooooo many great ideas! Thank you!
❤ Love this bag!❤
Thank you for sharing your thought process and leaving the mistakes in the video. You are a good teacher.
I think your canvas may be panorama photo print. It is beautiful.
Thanks! Yeah, it probably is. It’s definitely printed on canvas but not a traditional printer painting.
I betcha dollars to donuts you are right. It's a panorama photo and probably was either a gift that was unappreciated, or an item that didn't sell in an estate sale. I'm glad it came to fall into the hands of TT who could appreciate it and see the potential in it. I see that used as a book tote for trips to and from the library. It's a beautiful image and so well utilized in this tote.
This is such a fabulous bag. Thank you for sharing,Timothy.
Thank you! It was a lot of fun!
I've found painter's tape, surgical tape, masking tape, etc., all work well for temporary holding when clips don't work or don't have the size/strength needed.
Loved it.
Terrific use of Thrift Store finds. I love this idea. I never thought to find the bag notions and handles that way nor to use a printed/painted canvas for fabric. Cheers.
I love your videos. This bag is amazing.
Thank you so much!
Beautiful bag
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for sharing such a clever way to repurpose charity shop finds. You now have a very unique bag. Our Op-Shops and charity shops are becoming rather expensive now, here in Sydney Australia. 'Designer and Vintage' items being the culprits. ❤❤
What a clever, fun, creative and satisfying project! Love your videos 💖💖💖
What a Killer Idea!!
Thanks!!
Wow! What a great idea!

Great idea n the bag looks wonderful. Will be looking round my local charity shops now lol.
That's nice.
Thanks!
Wowza! That bag is very impressive! I love repurposing but never thought about using picture canvas. I often find heavier material in the "Linens" section of my local GW to use. Thanks for a great tutorial. ❤️
Enjoyed this project,
