I saw a Star Finch when I was out walking my dog, I presume an escapee given its not native to the UK. It seemed very tame, but sadly it was too busy with passers by so I was unable to catch it. I became fascinated as I love birds and had never seen this one before. I'm still on the lookout in case I find it again, and I'll be more prepared next time. They're absolutely beautiful. Thank you for the informative video.
Nice story, it is almost impossible to catch escapees unfortunately. Although I managed ones when it join a flock of other birds and came back every day
@@MrAviary Sorry for the late reply - I don't seem to get notifications on here. 😅 - it's reassuring to know that they can join flocks of other birds - we have a lot of birds around the area so I'm hoping that's what happened. I never did see it again, though I like to think it's out there somewhere living life.
Very pretty little birds and their display is really cute. I was thinking about getting some, but since I really would like to keep plum headed finches I had to skip as they can apparently mix with one another.
I've indeed read that they can interbreed with plum headed finches, however this is not very likely. Other species of finches are more likely to interbreed.
Dutch in Spain here :) I got a first pair of star finches - though I seem to have 2 males. Still looking for some gouldians but fairly hard to find here in Spain. Thank you for the video, very informative.
Great video as always friend. These really are prolific breeders when they start just like zebra finches in my opinion. I physically have to separate mine to stop them breeding just to take care of my hens health but in 6 to 7 months time they happily start all over. I currently have 12 new Star chicks from 3 rounds this year and may let them have a fourth clutch before their winter break as they are still in great condition. Fantastic little active and beautiful finches, recommended for even beginners ❤
I live in Florida and have an outdoor flight cage. It does get chilly in the winter, Would this prevent them from breeding and if I remove nests? I'm considering adding some next year and currently have Society, Zebra and orange cheeked waxbill finches. I also have King quail and diamond doves.
The cold will most likely prevent them from breeding in winter, however some individuals will still make nest and try. Removing nest will always prevent them to breed.
Going to put a pair in a large flight and would like to have some kind of live plant or branch. Any suggestions? Do I keep it in water or a pot? I like how yours are always sideways. Is that ivy-looking plant real? I would like the stars to be my first pair. Any advice. Love your videos!
Thank you for the video, very interesting as always and a lot of information. I need help. I am looking for a sighted adult male starfinch in Illinois near Chicago. Maybe someone knows reliable breeders of these birds.
Thank You so much for sharing.. this is a bird that I would love to add to my Owls and Gouldians . Have a fantastic day
Thanks, they will be a perfect addition

Great. What plants do you put in your star finch aviary?
Coniferous species and Grass species
I've just taken in a starfinch that has lost his tail feathers. Will they grow back. If so how long and any tips to help him
Yes they will grow back during its next molt. Just a non stressful environment and good healthy food
@@MrAviary brilliant. Thank you for the reply
Love it 🥰👌
Thanks 😊
I loved your video! Very well explained! Can you do a video on Yellow Crowned Bishop finches and their breeding? You have an experience on them?
I never had those, interesting species which is on my wish list but for now no information
Sir are the star finches good parents when raising their own chicks?
Most of the time they are

Thanks, If you take grasses or coniferous species in a pot you will be good 👍
Nice
Thanks
Another great vid as usual. Have you ever done a video on ringing?
Thanks, no because I almost never ring my birds because I do not want to disturb them. I always ring my birds with open rings
@@MrAviary what are open rings?
@@MrAviary nevermind. I googled them 🤣
Video yang bagus 👍👍👍
Thanks
Good

Can I keep 2 male finches together or 2 females?
For most finches yes you can
