When I saw it out of the box I was really suprised how pretty it was. It's the best good-looking and cool guitar I have ever seen regardless the price. Design and the shape are really cool and distinctive, finish is very nice, fretwork and tuning are close to perfection. Nut and bridge saddles aren't made of a cheap plastic, I'm almost sure it is TUSQ GraphTech.
It sounds more trebly than bassy, of course, because of its little parlor body. For me bass strings, especially E are a little bit dull and mat in compare to loudly ringing trebles. I guess, three factors should improve this shortcoming: replacing the strings with Elixir Nanoweb (now D'Addario® EJ16), finding the way to play on it to compensate the disproportion between basses and trebles (it took me only a week) and time the guitar needs to sound better.
I like my Gretsch Jim Dandy.
I liked hearing John Martyn' s "Fairy Tale Lullaby"-thank you for playing it. Maybe I'll buy this guitar some day while it's still readily available.
I plan get one to Put in Nashville Tuning.
Best review /demo ive seen. Less talkin, more playing is what we want😎✌
I`ve had one these for a few years now.Lovely to play and if you change the rather tacky tuners to Gotos 510`s it will transform it.
my dream guitar
Dakota Charming get one. perfect practice guitar for one
Is it good for serious playing tho? Like live gigs and even recording
Of course it is, but its a parlor guitar which is best for mostly blues and country. These aren't meant for more modern sounding rock or anything like that.
Mine has a terrible finish but sounds really good and is great fun to play.
For the money I highly recommend it !!
I seem to be in the minority here but I bought this guitar and I just cannot bring myself to love it. It looks great, and it is for sure the prettiest guitar i've ever owned but it's missing a certain amount of warmth that I look for in an acoustic guitar.
Me too, but then again I don't play the sort of music that this guitar suits. You have to completely change your playing to get the best out of this.
The guitar is ass thats why. Even fir the type of music itz meant for its complete crap. What did you exect for a $180 guitar. These people who make reviews get paid to say bs about junk
I don't know, but that seems to me to be a whole lotta fun in a guitar at a giveaway price....
very happy with mine
Wow man I love how you play that guitar! Do you have any videos on how to play that style of music ??
yes please lol
Thanks for your help. I'll do that. Cheers ;-)
thinking about it. I'm not exactly sure why i'm attracted to 3/4 scale. Curious i guess. Very affordable too.
I ll receive mine in 2 days ... i m like a kid waiting for Xmas
Cool guitar and nice playing.
Sounds a bit banjoesque!
Nice! It's sounds almost like a banjo!
wow, amazing guitar!!
I’d never seen one until I seen and bought the first one I seen and played 😂
Great guitar!
Nice John Martyn at the beginning there!
Love this!
I love mine
Thanks ! I'm buying one!
Would love to learn what you're playing here.
i ordered one..
good.
was that coffee blues by missippi john hurt at 1:12 .-.
sold. RAd video dude.
Agathis
The wood is commonly used in the manufacture of low priced guitars due to its good resonating properties, yet relatively low price of production.
Bombay Bicycle Goodness!
I personally love Gretsch guitars, so I might pick up this or a Peavey Composer. Any suggestions?
What turnings do you use throughout the three showcases and if you used different ones , did you have to change to a different gauge ?
Hi, could you list the song or piece names that you play in this? (have always loved the things people play during guitar demos). Also i have this guitar and love it, my only problem with it is i think it has quite a high action for what i like, making it real hard to hold barre chords but for the price, its great!
The first piece is a song called Fairytale Lullaby by Bombay Bicycle Club 👍🏼
It’s ‘Fairytale Lullaby’ by John Martyn actually man. From his Album ‘London Conversation’
Anyone know what the second blues song is? Sounds awesome
If you are talking the track starting at 1:15ish don't have a specific id (could be improved?) but it reminds me a wee bit of John Fahey's Poor Boy Long Ways From Home if you were looking for similar stuff
Hi, how does it compare to the Fender ma-1? I know they are slightly different guitars but they are roughly the same price. It's for my 12 year old son who is learning.... Cheers.
Personally, I'd go for the Jim Dandy. They are both small and easy to play, but the Gretsch has the cool factor!
Hows the tuners? Does it hold tune or slip out alot? Hows the overall quality? I know its inexpensive but is it toy level guitar or decent for the $?
The tuners are actually really good. I was really surprised how good these are for the money!
what brand and type of strings are u using on the video? the original ones?
I am also curious about this!
Pretty sure they're strung with Dadarrio strings
what are the guitars hanging on the wall in the back? their pick guards look super nice
Gibson Hummingbird.
buyer beware. most of them are copies and imitations. true vintage Hummingbirds are very costly.
be careful and closely inspect any Hummingbird pick guard. there are lots of very common Chinese knockoff versions floating around.
a true Hummingbird vintage pick guard can easily cost 300-400 bucks in good condition. don't get taken by imitators.
why did i not notice his moustache until 1:37?
You're priorities are all out of wack
I think mine's broken cause it doesn't sound like that and I'm not a new or bad player by any means.
Do you have it tuned down a half step? I did that to mine and it feels and plays alot better.
Do you know where online I might find a nice case for one of these Jim Dandy's? Maybe tweed or a distressed case or ? Just something that might fit the image of the 1930's parlor guitars... :)
Hey! We don't do anything tweed, but we recommend these for Jim Dandys: www.gak.co.uk/en/hiscox-std-cl/3085
John Valenti k
Is there a classical guitar version of this Jim Dandy?
want want want
sounds cool... it is solid agathis or laminated?
it's agathis!
Can anyone advise if the sound is closer to a ukelele?
sounded good but i would have to play it to see how it feels
I have had this guitar since 2014 and I absolutely love this thing dude! For the price there is NO comparisons. I have been looking for a new guitar this week and I tell you, I find myself still comparing everything I here to this cheap beauty...
man, i wish i could play that guitar like that. Iam just a silly punkrocker
Do they come with pickup
whats that style or genre called from around 1:14 sounds awesome
Kind of a mix between Delta Blues and American folk.
That’s blues, brother
Anyone know a hard shell case that will fit this? Thanks.
Gator makes a parlor case.
parlor.guitars/blog/parlor-guitar-case-roundup
What is the name of the second and third song? (what tuning do you use?) Thanks
standard tuning here?
my first guitar. i love my baby.
Can anyone tell me what songs he's playing please?
How does this compare to the Fender Cp-100?
Daniel Stephenson it's a good guitar, but does have some issues.
it's made overseas as is fender. I've gretsch and fender acoustics, and would buy a fender over a gretsch any day...just better quality
They're different guitars for different styles of playing. This one is more dry and boxy. It's actually built in the style of the 30's catalog guitars. It's basically built to be a blues box. The Fender has a deeper, more resounding bass response. It's a good all around guitar but I find it suits ballad and country players a little better. Both are excellent guitars for the money, it just depends on what your intended purpose is.
Que cuerdas de nailon se puede utilizar en esta guitarra?? La tengo y quisiera probar con cuerdas de nailon Gracias
Cool, do you teach these licks on youtube?
Where can i buy this guitar?
Nice guitar and playing! What's that number at 1:34?
So, I dont suppose you got an answer out of band?
I would love to know as well.

IS the Jim Dandy a Gretsch Americana with a different finish?
Hi. The guitars are actually very different. The Jim Dandy is made of agathis, whereas the Americanas were unspecified "real wood". They also have a deeper body and a longer scale length. Overall, they are a higher quality guitar with a better sound.
GAK Thank you mate.Much appreciated.
Would this guitar be okay to re-string for a left handed user?
Jack Montgomery You would have to change the bridge and the nut but other than that you should be fine.
Jack Montgomery only if you're left handed, otherwise it will be really hard to play
Anyone know the song at 1:13?
What's the song started on 1;34?
hi, how long is it end to end? I don't seem to be able to find overall length in the specs online...ta
24 inch
+John Smith ...24" is the scale length
What is the name of the song he plays at the beginning of the video?
its off the flaws album bombay bicycle club just listen to the whole thing
Sam Goldie , thanks!
literally just bought this guitar today
amazing album swell
Hi ! Nobodys can tell me the song name at 1:34 ? Thanks
1
Gibson Dove
what song does he play around 1:10
Sounds like a variation of "Poor Boy Long Ways From Home" traditional blues song. Check out John Fahey's live version
I'm not knocking the playing but it sounded like a child's guitar a beginners guitar, I wouldn't want to pay a lot of money for it
Nobody will tell you if it is a solid or hard top
Idk buzzes a lot
Fifi Fornow All I heard are buzzzzz
sounds like you tuned it to an open chord.
Young burzum
Down vote for secret tuning. WTF man, if you are not in standard tuning you have a duty to say where you are. We are fans.
Robert Hedrick it’s an open D tuning.
I think you can get something better at the same price
I dont know much parlor size guitars for this price. Any advice?
fender cp-100 parlor..it's not a top guitar but it has a spruce top, back and sides mahogany, rosewood fretboard...it's a real guitar!
Lalairu the hohner essential plus parlor is 217 on amazon and is a really great solid top parlor
nano
thanks :D
Next time you demo a guitar, try not sucking.
Sad to see such nice playing on such a shite guitar. It seems like a decent guitar for some stuff.. but all that playing would've sounded WAY better on a real guitar! BTW I still want one so don't hate!
Thanks for your help. I'll do that. Cheers ;-)
