  • Not entirely satisfied with the Hornby Scaledale Coal Staithes, I decide to scratch-build my own. This is how I did it.

    They look great and are a nice project for beginning scratch building. Thanks for sharing the idea.

      Thanks, they are very simple, but I think an improvement on the Hornby ones I had there before.

    Hi Chris. I've made a coal stathe. Not as good as yours. I can't seem to get that coal lorry any where. I don't think they're made any more. Keep up the good work.

      Hi JJ. I checked mine again, and I realised it's made by Pocketbond Classix, not Oxford as I originally thought. It does seem to be hard to get now, however I found one available on Ebay, even if the seller is based in Russia! www.ebay.com/itm/1-76-Classix-EM76506-Jensen-Jen-Tug-NCB-National-Coal-Board/223966918390?hash=item342577f6f6:g:O34AAOSw4iJeiFO0

    It looks great, but it's too neat and tidy.. it needs more coal all over the ground and I would have made one nearly empty ready to be filled up.. One thing with scratch building is that you can tailor make it to your railway layout instead of being generic.

    Hi Chris, love your video, one question, the housing back scene by the locomotive coaling stage, where did that come from?

    • @melchestermodelrailway
      @melchestermodelrailway  3 роки тому

      Hi, thanks very much. The backscenes are by Peco. They've been in the range for years, and are still available.

      The Coal sacks are made by Modelscene, all from Hattons. (other Model Shops are available!)

    Thanks for an informative video. What did you use for the grey base?

    • @melchestermodelrailway
      @melchestermodelrailway  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching, the base is made from the Tarmac card sheets from Metcalfe.

    That is brilliant. Think about making one myself. Tell me where did you get the lorry from thanks.

      Thanks JJ. The coal lorry is made by Oxford Diecast. Hattons have a good selection, which is where I bought it. I hope you have a go at making your own coal staithes too!
