- The new 21.3 update (still in Beta at the moment) brings a new AI powered chord generator tool called the CPT - Chord Progression Tool. There are also some other really cool updates including a new stereo spreader tool that has fantastic mono compatibility and a new JUNO-6 and Jupiter-8 style hybrid synth. Let me know if you want to see a sound design tutorial for that new synth.

If you own FL Studio, you can access Beta 3 in the FL Studio Users Forum (Looptalk) here:

Be sure to follow all the warnings and install it alongside your regular version. It's best to not use beta software for mission-critical work as they tend to be less stable while new features are being added.

Let me know if you want to see a sound design tutorial for that new synth. I'm going to be back next week with another audio myths/bad advice debunking video. This is going to be a really controversial one so I'm taking time to do it right!

I'd love at least a quick overview / demo of the new synth, if you'll have the time!
@@DissonantSynthsame here
I don't see the chord generator as a bad thing, but really it should have a setting to end on the Dom7 chord before the 1 chord comes back around, or some set of similar "intelligence." Currently, It's just a faster way to fill in the piano roll. MICHAEL, yes, can you do a "new features in 20.3" vid? New Kepler sound design vid would be great!
The WAR DAW of the PianoRoll 🤣
An overview of the new synth would be great, in addition to audio examples using the new stereo spreader and one of your usual in depth tutorials on the CPT, upon official release. If you dog makes an appearance then that will be the icing on the cake :)
I have noticed FL Studio users rarely hate on other DAWs, but users of other DAWs always seem to hate on FL Studio.
We are humble
Back in my day. We used to beef with reason guys. Now... its just.... ableton.
Whered the reason guys go?
@@Tejaneaux-ic8dpthey came to FL Studio
Most people start on FL Studio and don't even know what other DAWs are capable of. I personally find the FL Studio workflow could be more streamlined. At the end of the day, who cares. Someone with good arrangement/composition skills can make great music with any DAW.
You know y!
I'd love to use that AI tool for ear training on chord progressions, just let it generate something in a key that I choose without looking, use the slider as a "difficulty" etc, and try to tell. If you guess a chord wrong, you can swap in your wrong answer to see it "would" sound like. I'd also use this over any premade ear training tools, since you can also choose the timbre of the sound which is a game changer, because ear training on only one instrument's sound makes it harder to apply that skill across the board.
Very good scenario!
such a cool idea i am going to steal it
Maybe can be done with patcher and/or scripting, sounds cool though
Always appreciate plugins to help creativity.
Chord progressions always help me create leads, so it is cool to see it will add extra voicings to the chords for more inspiration.
The people who are actually upset at a chord generator blows my mind.
This does not in ANYWAY "make" a song for you. Chords are widely barrowed amongst songs across the world, in fact chords cannot be copyrighted, this is why you hear similar (or the exact same) chords across different songs and genres. This is a huge win for the producer community, especially for those who simply do not have the time to learn how to play chords, write chords or simply play the piano. This obviously won't help you if you know absolutely nothing about music theory, or what chords play nicely with which notes, but it's a brilliant start. No harm here, just a massive helper for those who need it.
Great Video!
I think the offense/outrage might just come from the fact that instead of actually writing the chords out, You're pressing a couple buttons to prompt the computer to do it for you. Not saying I'm really against this, but I can kinda see both sides of why people may or may not like this feature.
@@theofficiallobst6592 definitely understandable but you could use the same argument against samples, which a very high percentage of producers use. Just think it’s all a bit silly
It's soulless, but it's not going to be used by anyone except some poor guy making corporate junk. I sincerely doubt anyone is making music they like and share using chord generators
@@hydra4370do people like you even understand how music works?
@@hydra4370 if the chords are the main focus of the piece, maybe. But even then you could adjust them to match the soul of the project. For me, i produce edm, so something that helps point me in the direction of a cohesive, energy building progression could help me to direct my creativity into sound design, arrangement, and mixing and mastering: the things that i enjoy and that keep me inspired
Amazing practice tool for solo improvising generate random chords and try and fill in solos etc to think outside the box sort of thing can't wait to try it out. Awesome content as always my go to channel for music production and fl studio things
to be honest I think it'd be fair enough if it's tricky for beginners because it'd encourage them to not rely on it, and when you actually understand theory it's like a level up prize
lets talk about calculators
This Fl studio update is a time saver thanks 🙏 for sharing
As a long-time musically inept person, I really like where it all goes :)
Super excited! Seems like an outstanding update.
Very excited for next update of FL Studio!
Thank you for sharing this valuable tool.
It's quite interesting for those of us who are not musician and just want to experiment with sounds. I would like another video where you could show two ways of starting a track using this tool. Thank you.
Happy Saturday! Thanks for all your hard work
Hope you have a great weekend.
Wow this is cool, I have Scaler but these VST's work differently so options is always good.....locking chords is a cool function, nice.....
Same. Cant wait to update and see this feature. Ive been using scale locks more often tho.
Mike big fan of the channel and as always your tutorials are so pro and son on point thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Fantastic, I'm very much looking forward to this tool in FLS. Now the need to take it to the next step and make it a chord track that pitch quantities other tracks. Now that would be Epic in FLS.
It's helpful for sure. I like the suggestions you presented. I wish they would make sidechaining more transparent, similar to Live or other DAWs.
It feels cumbersome to set up things like wavesfactory trackspacer or shaperbox volume shaper. I keep hoping they'll make it faster and easier in the future.
Should be fun to play around with! Super happy with every update FL has been putting out these last few years.
they had those python scripts on the imagine line forum written in python. Cool tool. I think if you know python you can create more tools for FL studio
Idk if links are allowed in the comments, but could you maybe give a specific enough google search phrase to find it? Sounds very interesting
I think he's talking about the piano roll scripts, which have an own thread in the Image Line forum. So if you google "image line forum piano roll scripts" you might find what you're looking for.
@@ExplicableCashewIf you mean the specific scripts they’re is talking about, I can’t help you, but if you want to write your own scripts, search “FL studio piano roll scripting” and click the link to the online manual.
Can you please bring a Complete Music Theory series, I love the way you teach.
thanks michael your one of the hardest workers on hereanother gem thanks man
this is soooooo good for those who dont have music theory at a professional level...
I've Learnt a lot from you❤
fl never disappoints. meanwhile i still get error loading edison's declipper... xD nice video Mike
Looks really good
In Cubase, the chords tool is wonderful and can control any track, or rather, any track can take control of it if it is possible to study and apply it in FL Studio.
Hey man been loving your videos, is there any chance you could do a video talking about the harmonics of a square wave bass in the context of trap/mixing said square wave's harmonics? i have multiple songs where music theory wise the notes are the same, the kick is hitting the same note as the bass but it sounds super off because the harmonics present are bad, but im unsure how to go about fixing it. I also do not know how to simplify this question to google it tbh...
The CPT basically seems like a more structured/polished riff machine where notes/chords have more cohesion rather than being random gibberish (especially the bottom 'random' button in Riff machine - that can be such chaos, or ear pain)
shweet... can't wait to try this out. I always wait till its out of Beta. should be a month or 2
Wow i love this !!
Thanks for sharing this you a real one 🙏
Thanx a lot! 👍💚
I bought an FL49 and then my life had a bit of a upheaval and haven't really gotten back to FL in months. This update is really exciting. Looking forward to the new synth
Same here bro, you got this!
Gonna try this out on a little project I have going. Interested to see how that works out.
I only like to make music as a creative hobby and I love CPT as it will help me and saves a lot of my time. I have hundreds of songs that are waiting for me to finish but my work and studies occupy most of my time. So happy and excited 😮😮😍
Low key so effing excited for this. IL are just the best!
Looks really good. Can it act like chord trigger in Logic pro and if not is there a plugin that I can add that does that?
I've used scaler2 for this but the FL incarnation seems better. Looking forward to a stable version.
This Chord Progression Tool is going to help create many happy accidents.
Lol. Everything i put in piano roll is nothing but happy accidents.
I'm not really into music production, but I've always had a problem with coming up with chord progressions. This is a great tool to just generate stuff you can analyze and study and therefore learn from
I'm probably going to end up dropping a ton of MIDI pack chords into this and seeing what comes out, since I already have an idea of certain ones that I like
Im gonna do the same with scaler
Sometimes I make a chord progression or two and I want the chords to change and build into the next bit, this could be good for that. Add a few passing chords at the end of a phrase when I'm a bit stuck.
Super excited 😆😊
What synth and preset were you using for the arps? It sounded quite nice.
Never thought Rick Astley would appear in my recommendations...
I love the chord progression tool, in FL great way to learn how chord progressions work, ℹ normally create my own chords by what I’m feeling at the time, on my Akai mini pro synth
but definitely 👍 great for learning if you’re new
This one seems nice. Btw which all editions of FL Studio will have this feature? Will the Producer edition support this?
The chord generator is in all editions from Fruity and up. It's going to be a core feature as far as I am aware!
@@inthemix I see.. and thanks so much for the update :)
These are such amazing updates, I'm kinda crying in Logic Pro rn
good video!
Damn this tool is great!
Great man
A visual stereo spreader tool 🔥
Definitely feel that labeling this as an "AI tool" is modern day marketing schtick (FL has always had an AI generator called Riff Machine). Definitely helpful for those of us that can't get chords to sound good on the piano roll fiddling with one note at a time.
Your hair is beautifully done bro
I think this just speeds up the workflow or helps with the idea finding, aswell as benefit beginners when they start learning about music theory and chord progressions
That's neato!
When is MPE compatibility and easier handling of midi pedal signal (moving around after recording with the notes)??
thanks Lurch
It would be awesome if that chord thingy had an appregator build in, and not having to place chords first then appregate with the current appregator tool or to have an arp in the music bank. I follow my melody easier when i play my chords arpeggios.
I want you to make a video about transposing in fl studio because when you transpose some patterns and then you want to add another pattern the keys don't really match and am having a problem with that
This honestly looks pretty cool i think i'll use it to start a beat tbh but prolly
I didnt know rainbolt made music 😮 What a talented man! 😊
I wish I was half as talented as him!
It's a good time to be an FL user 💪💪
Yep, use it as a tool, not The Oracle.
when is the release, i cant wait to use this
Can't wait for that release to be available. No need to install Scalar once it's released hehe. Love the python scripts addition too.
can you start a complex melody and finish it with this AI tool?
Man that's handy
i love FL, and that chord addition is not bad, it can be useful, but scaler is more powerful if you are stuck and you want some ideas
as for the juno, i have the arturia V collection wich outperforms this one, i cant complain though, its free, so its a welcome addition as well
one thing they still have'nt incorporated wich would make FL more attractive to orchestral musicians is a keyswitch lane (studio one-sound variations/cubase-expression maps), that way the keyswitches are'nt in the piano roll no more, cheers mate
A key switch lane would be incredible. I'm sure that must have been suggested...
@@inthemixyep, i've asked this for the longest time, ah well, maybe next time, cheers
Damn this is great! LOGIC TAKE NOTES lol
AI music tools like this chord plugin are great! BUT just like how a composer can get writers block and they might use a tool like this to get inspiration, if someone ONLY uses tools and tricks like this plugin without having any musical knowledge, it will also give that person a limit to further develop their art. I am saying this because I was the second type of person that only used technical production tips and tricks to make music and I hit a ceiling where I needed to actually learn how to create music the traditional way.
That first chord progression example you created sounds like a melody for a beat for Eli Sostre🙆🏾♂️😯😀😄😅
I think itd be useful even just for figuring out what the chords are. Sometimes i play around making inversions and adding a bunch of notes, and then end up forgetting what the root is.
the one thing I wish studio one had. if u know your theory, this can be REALLY powerfull.
i love lifetime free updates!!!
I know this might look a bit scary but damn it will make starting a track much faster!
My test methodology will be to see how much work it will take to get it to spit out an Alex Lifeson chord or the progression of Daft Punk's Voyager. I cannot think of a better test.
Im lit🔥🔥😂more chord generation
When is the update set to come out?
Can make video on impact of AI on music such as Suno AI etc,
It would be better to have a modification function and detail function.
Differentiation from Scaler 2 and others.and,
It's important to me able to easily apply chords and arrangements to sequences in FLStudio.
I am on my way to suggest that. Being able to open up each chord and adjust it in detail would be great.
Hey man WHICH FL STUDIO VERSION DO YOU USE ?
Wow Now I have to get back to using FL Studio
I've definitely had times where I couldn't quite find the right chord to put between two chords in a chord progression. This plugin would've probably been helpful then.
So if you were an elemental "bender" (Like Avatar The Last Airbender), with hair like that do you think you'd be water tribe or air nomads? It's just so flowy. Love it! Excellent content by the way.
I still think they really need to add some features on the arrangement playlist. Like group muting or stuff like that. Proper grouping features of tracks on the arrangement viewlist.
Why not group your tracks and mute the bus?
Question: i very often making a music offline. Does Chord progression tool requires Online to generate?
No.
Native stereo spreader? finally, gosh. Next one I hope some kind of "Receive" plugin to work with Fruity Send, I still haven't figured out how to simply send signal from different channels with their own effect chains in the middle or at the beginning of effects chain to other 1 channel and get it back processed and continue processing next effects. Yeah, kinda rare situation, but we have Fruity Send, why don't we have Fruity Receive
Dude i havent touched fruity send since FL 12. I totally forgot about the sends since i figured out how to bus.
Wouldnt the concept be valid if like... you ran all the stuff via patcher tho? And the "receive"signal is what is chained through. (NOT INTO MIXER) but patcherized into channel rack. Sorted through and just.... turn the "Dry" signal to 0 in a volume aspect?
Not releated to the topic, but how did you move piano roll like that at 3:09
holy shit i think it's finally time to update FL
How many other daws have you used or still use other than FL, might I ask?
I primarily use WaveLab Pro, I spend about 80% of my time in there.
I have used FL Studio for many years but also experimented a lot with Studio One and Ableton when deciding to stick with FL. I enjoyed using loads of DAWs for my comparison video. I tried Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase etc.
The DAW is just a tool and each of them shines on particular tasks.
@@inthemix Absolutely, also he look and which workflow suits you best for your projects, used them all before, but for me Cubase is my jam
End of scaler 😮
You look like Vitas (The 7th Element singer) 😄, anyway thanks for allll your videossss👏👏👏👏
i got a license problem license was installed but will not be recognized is there a way to do this right fl studio
Nice
Sorry for offtop, but I watching Resident Alien series now, and you're looks very similar to mayor Ben!
Great vids, though!
when does this chord generator update drop. I don't see it in the latest 21 version I downloaded.
Can you use the CPT for melodies? or is it just chords
Global chord follower like in studio1 would be amazing
As usual~ Love from China ~ 🖖
