custard tarts/milk tart cups

  • Recipe by gawa's kitchen
    biscuit base
    250g soft butter
    200 ml castor sugar
    30 ml cooking oil
    2 eggs
    5 ml vanilla essence
    2 cups cake flour
    2 cups selfraising flour
    custard
    700 ml milk
    + 3/4 cup milk
    6 extra large eggs
    3/4 cup sugar
    stick cinnamon
    cardamom pods
    vanilla essence
    3 tablespoons custard powder
    fine cinnamon
    bake at 190 degrees for 30-35 minutes
    first 20 minutes using only the bottom heat
    when filling starts to bubble remove from oven

    That is such a good idea. Thankyou, they look deliscious. We used to bake separate crusts and fill it with the cooked filling.

    Wow just came across the video, thank you for sharing looks absolutely delicious. Definitely gonna give this a try. Question, instead of custard tarts can this be baked in a dish, say 9 by 13 pyrex dish?

      Thank you for watching, I have a coconut and jam one on my channel also a caramel and cream one u can do lemon meringue as well or u can do a pastry cream and add some fruit but u would pre bake the shells I have apple Tartlets on my channel using the same base.

    Thank you for the recipe. Just checking after using bottom heat for 20mins do you then bake as normal for the next 10 minutes.

      Yes as normal,when it starts to bubble up remove from oven it will set further while standing 😊

      I can assure you that I DID watch to the end as I was quite excited to see the inside. Just checked again now and ends with close up of the tarts then shows option for next videos.

      Yes there's a close up of the bread in tin but then it switches to the slice bread and a piece with cheese on🤷‍♀️

    For the first 20 Min u put on the bottom element and for the remaining minutes do u put on just the top one or both

      Just move it to the middle rack and yes top and bottom

      I think too much flour your dough might be to dry

      Hi I mention in the video and in the description box u should bake it for 30-35 minutes the first 20 minutes using only the bottom heat

      So after the 20 minutes using bottom heat u then place on the middle rack and bake further 10-15 minutes or until your custard starts to bubble then remove from oven and allow to cool but if after 20 minutes your tarts is baked then all good

    Ghawa, don't put plastic in the microwave. The plastic leaches into the contents. Rather invest in a nice glass measuring cup that is microwave-safe.

      A day but I like to make it same day as serving ,but people that sells it usually make it a day in advance, maybe even 2,won't be a crisp but it holds its shape well,ive had it in fridge for maybe 2 days, also note that this is similar to cape malay milktart the pastry can be made long in advance.
