5:56 It's a common misconception that TSM/AVC is "traction control" but it has nothing to do with traction. It's a gyro to stabilize the wheels to help the truck stay straight during acceleration. Actual traction control systems modulate how much power goes to the wheels during acceleration/cornering.
I really appreciate the non biased videos. Keep them coming!
tks
I went into the store with my heart set on the rustler and after comparing them walked out with the vorteks...... Haven't looked back since
1st Week of my Traxxas Rustler VXL 4x4. Replaced the Spur Gear twice, changed to a differential, then the pinion went and changed the pinion. 1st Week of Arma Vorteks, not a single issue.
That self-righting feature is killer on the Rustler's spur
I picked up a Vortex Boost recently and I love it. The shop sent me home with the 4x4 conversion kit which I haven’t installed yet but it did really well at the track despite my novice driving.
Keep pumping out these vids bro. You’re helping me decide if I want to buy one or not.
You pick whatever one you will find better part support for at your at your local hobby shop, that way when either one does break you get it fixed right away👍👍
@@ivydome thanks but I wrote the comment wrong. I don’t want the traxxas at all. Its not a toss up between the two. Im watching him run the vorteks and hearing his opinion its helping me decide if I want the vorteks or not. I have a chance to put $ down now so that when it comes in (probably next week) I can get one for me and my daughter.
The Vorteks has 1.6" ride height while the Rustler has 1.1" ride height, so the Vorteks lands better on jumps. It also has bigger, heavier tires so it can do backflips easier, and it's geared higher to give it more power.
The Rustler will do better on the track because it's lower and has adjustable shock mounts, you can lower it even more than stock.
Vorteks will dominate the Rustler on the track. I driven the 4x4 rustler no impressed at all very sloppy car. Vorteks will set new standard for 4x4 track use for stadium trucks. Traxxas will have to go back to the drawing bored. Of course the rustler will break apart way before the volteck does 👍
@@paulrakis Keep dreaming lol the Vorteks has zero suspension adjustments, it was never made with racing in mind, it only has one mode which is send it mode.
The Rustler you can tighten the servo saver, adjust the suspension, drop in a center diff, install sway bars - all Traxxas upgrades. You can tune it to any track, it would destroy a Vorteks anywhere.
@@geodude3966 any tips would be great my rustler 4x4 vxl bottoms out easy is their anything I can do to fix or improve this.
@@johnbat1846 Move the lower shock mounts into the inner most holes, this will increase droop, move the upper shock mounts into the inner most holes, this will stiffen the shocks, then add spacers above the springs, this will increase ride height. Then add thicker shock oil, and if you have the budget get taller tires like Sledgehammers.
@@geodude3966 right I’m down at the hobby store next week I’ll get all that plus a new Lipo but we’re I’m at it’s $75au for 2 tyres yikes if I got them would I need to lower my spur to 9.
Nice head to head JayTee 👍🏼👍🏼. Can't really go wrong with either, IMO. Thank you for showcasing so many wonderful RCs over the years my friend! 👊🏼👊🏼
Honestly man which ever one you find better part support for at your local hobby store is the one you should go with
Exactly!!!
Nice review buddy, that little rig is fast out the box and for being stock too that vortex is pretty cool, I’d have to go with the vortex especially for the price too. Awesome review man keep them coming!
Just picked up the Arrma for my wife to join my daughter and I. Fist thing I did was buy the metal spur. NOTE: you will need the slipper clutch pads as well. The plastic spur only uses three; the metal uses four! I also reduced the pinion because she won’t bash or speed run! Fun times RCing!
nice!
@@JayTeeRC Thanks Bro! I guess you already know A LOT about RC. The only reason I commented on the slipper and metal gear; is nobody mentions it. You obviously know! Thanks for the cool videos!
@@TheCLA8N yep they can be a problem at times Siri I know I'll replace a few here in there
Again Arrma takes Traxxas to the wood shed for ANOTHER BEATING...!!! I’m not a high skill set RCer ... but it seems Arrma is dialed in with both their product as well as marketing..... Traxxas on the other hand .... is way out of line asking that kind of cash for their models in general.....personally... I really dig my E-Revo VXL.... it’s a great model and I do enjoy it..... BUT .... My brand new Arrma Felony is definitely the bomb !!!! and I don’t believe Traxxas really doesn’t have an answer to it..... thanks for your unbiased vids you put out JT.....they really help a cat like me decide on where I wanna go with RCs for n general...☮️~~I’m out👍🏻😎
I just picked up an Arrma vorteks and took it to revelation raceway just for fun, it handled ok right out of the box had no trouble clearing jumps it was just fish tailing when full throttle, with better tires I think it’ll hold its own. On the other hand I had a buddy with a rustler 4x4 who couldn’t even do a lap at Pegasus with out flipping over... I agree with you drivers definitely make a difference. Arrma is the better choice in my opinion!!
The flipping was more than likely a traction roll, which means just needed a different type of tire. Bear in mind the rustler from an engineering standpoint is old technology. They haven't changed anything on them chassis wise except a longer battery tray, and it's been out forever. New tech, and changing a few measurements can always have a handling, jumping advantage, however, on a durability test traxxas takes the win, and with a few changes can handle nicely too. I bought a rustler 2wd and have put around $800 into it since upgraded everything that needed it including a castle mambax, and a 3800kv motor, it's fast, it jumps, lands, and turns on a dime. I would run it against anything and hold my own 90% of the time. With that said, it cost me $800 in changes to get you're. But, (the changing things) is HUGE PART OF THE FUN to me.
It would be not nearly as fun to have the best vehicle straight out of the box, because I love the building and modding process. So remember a rustler can be the best truck on the track in the right hands, and mods made. Imo, Arrma gets the Nod for making a faster vehicle out the box, and Traxxas gets the nod on availability, and durability. To each his own.
Yall should have traded tires, and been the best of both worlds and solved two problems at once..lol.
It isn't any easy choice. Both have their strengths and weaknesses but, I went with an Arrma Vorteks because your videos did the best job of demonstrating the differences. I'm more interested in track performance than pure bash-ability and it seems like the Vorteks has the edge in both price and performance. Thank you again for helping a new guy make an informed buying decision.
Actaully no on a track the rustler is more planted and you know what it will do the vorteks is erratic watch vidoes of them on actual dirt tracks.... so on track the vorteks out of the box is a lot harder to control...
Great vid JayTee my Vorteks should be at my door in 5 hours. Rustler looks nice but parts supply for Arrma much better here in NZ.
sweeeeettttt!!!
I'd buy the Arrma, get a car and a battery for the price of the Traxass.
Nice run..that beast is fast..super fast
Love your vids bro! And you've helped convince me to go with the Vorteks! Have one on pre-order now
congrats
Id own both but like the look of the vortek better
Showdown of the year
I made some extension legs for my plastic ramps. Allows me 4 height adjustments depending how I place them in. Just simple H frames made sith some scrap wood I had laying around.
Awesome
Nice video series! Traxxas recently released the new heat sinks and fans for the 3500 motor, it would be interesting to test those and see how well they work. Some speed runs using the Rustler speed gearing could be fun to see. How about a tug of war? Nice work!
Will try to get one
We have aftermarket coolers on our Rustler, u can drive the 17t pinion all day, all terrain. but it sucks the battery quicker. my friend changed back to 11, because its quick enough for everything, and battery last longer.
Self riding is actually bad for the car regardless what Traxxas says it puts alot of stress on the motor.
yep
I like them both tbf
Nice jumps. Even if you missed the jump a few times😂 it's cool 👍👍
🤣
I do not criticize I love to laugh and have a good time, I think you understood 😁👍. You are a cool guy and I really like your channel.
That was a good comparison between the two. You can tell your use to the rustler a little more. I think it comes down to price at the end of the day. Part support should be the same except upgrades for the Arrma since it is a new model. Great vid JT! Stay safe and bash on from Colorado!!
I went with the Vorteks but Arrma part support is significantly behind Traxxas even for older vehicles. Don't get me wrong I like Arrma but one big draw I had towards the rustler is that parts are a lot cheaper and more available.
Hope they put a hole on the bottom of the chassis for the spur gear to clear out all the rocks if not getting a 30 dollar metal spur makes it a 400 dollar rig
It has no fans. I put an arrma system in the traxxas rustler.
Traxxas is slow and lazy when it comes to updating their existing platforms, I never understood why they never put a heatsink/fan on their 3S lines. It's a cheap $10 upgrade but it makes a big difference in motor temps. Arrma updates their platforms every single year and they undercut Traxxas by $50 - $150 in pricing as well, they're going to overtake Traxxas in the next 5 years easily if they keep this up.
I caught the Vorteks on sale. $50 off made the decision for me.
I just got the Typhon6s $75 off on that same sale.
Traxxas also raised the price on 2wd Rustler VXL and Xmaxx, hope their Greedy strategy hurts them in sales.
really...whay are the prices now?
@@JayTeeRC Rustler VXL $309.99, Xmaxx $929.99 on their site. Others were increased also.
I wonder if they have investors that pushed that. I understand sales are probably lower now due to the pandemic so they might be trying to reduce their personal loss
Great vid bro!!🤩
ty
👍🏻
Hello I have the senton that still has servo problem cause by rocks a stock well I might just have a bad mojo I just picked up a vortex and wheels look all wobbly so I. Checked all four corners no outer bearings and my wire going back to fan is sitting on the center drive and esc and the mesh is jacked looks like someone forgot to do a final inspection can't even find a QC sticker so out of 5 arrma the vortex sits until I get into the hobby store. Not really a big deal for me use to bad QC starting out with drones that would be a head scratcher 🤔 hope I'm the only one with bad luck! Good day ripping it up .
I mean I understand trying to be non-biased, but saying there's no negatives with either of them, then going on to explain how you can't even run the Rustler on 3S more than 7-8 minutes without overheating one might be a little confused, since that seems like a huge negative. :) I love seeing them both running tho...there really isn't any reason to get the Rustler imo...unless you're invested in the Traxxas ecosystem with chargers and batteries. Like I mentioned in the last video, I've had 3 of the 3S variants and I've yet to break a drive shaft on any of them...my Rustler breaks one nearly every time I take it out. All that said, my Maxx is tougher than all of them. :)
Naw...being negative about a car be just sitting up here talking trash about it
Scott I have never had an overheating issue with my rustler 4x4 vxl on 3s their both good cars and they have negatives and positives just enjoy what you have.
Nice run of both cars JT! :)
Does anyone know definitively if Arram plans releasing revised Kraton 4s this year?
hope so
If I get this Vorteks what would you upgrade on it?
On my Senton BLX I changed the shocks to big bore ZD Racing shocks like what I saw from someone here on youtube. They give longer travel, do you think putting a longer travel shocks would be good for the Vorteks like for jumps? I know it might affect handling with higher ground clearance but it would have higher ground clearance.
1 year later any preference over the other now ?
That vorteks is a animal
Listen we've seen some great RC come out over the last 10 years but this truck is up there ....running these RC in Detroit loving it wait till the new 4S line comes out people will be shocked...👌😁
@@paulclancy2404 outcast 4s been sneaking around, I'm sure it's the first of many
Arrma 100%
nice vid!!!! WHere'd you buy the ramp????
What your camera set up? I head mount my DJI action cam and it's too shaky not smooth like yours
wut goods jay, yoo i got me rustler 4x4 vxl and just the sound on the vortex the throttle responses seems to be better than the traxxas. or is it just me!!..
I couldn't really tell that much of a difference but there is a slight difference
Sounds like you lean a little more towards the vortex??
Rustler had way better traction and control.
hah hah jaytee ma mannnn withthe dope vid
tks 😊
I was all about the Vorteks, AAALLLLLLLLLL about the Vorteks... And I saw that video against the Rustler where its against the parking curb/stop and it doesn't have any torque.... Please tell me something like... If I gear a little down I will notice a torque difference and just buy the Vorteks. I have 2 Traxxas now (new to the hobby, children included) and I'm looking for a Big Brother to our Merv and Rustler... Your videos are very helpful b.t.w. ! Keep it up! Always stay positive!
looking for 8th scale? different brand or staying with traxxas?
@@JayTeeRC right on the fence... Steer me in the right direction. Lol.. I don't want to fall back on the rustler or E-Revo if I don't have to .. maybe a Vorteks geared down so it can wheelie almost like the granite
@@EastonHathaway21 🤔. 10th scale only then?
Yessir.. $300-500 range
I’ve got a 3s 5000mah smart lipo battery with 30c you think my stock arrma vorteks can handle it with a 11.1v
Which is stronger?
where did you get that ramp?
skate board ramp
I self right my big rock all the time lol
That Vorteks seems way faster
it is
Hahahaha nice video buddy
The Vortex Looks Faster Than The Big Rock.. Is It B/c It's Smaller With Smaller Tires Or It Has Different Electronics To Make It Faster?
bigger pinion gear
@@JayTeeRC Oooh Ok Thanks..!!🤙🤙
Bro is Vortex RTR if not how much for the entire package ? Thank you .
Nope you will need either a 2s or 3s battery as well as a charger same with the rustler
@@ivydome Yes, they are both RTR. Most, if not all RC cars require batteries out of the box. If yours didn't, it's because it says Tyco or Bangood on the side.
@@camaroboi13 yeah that’s what I meant I know they are all RTR just letting him know he does need that battery
Hey my brother I just started watching ur vids I am a subscriber!!!!!! Lol but can you do some more videos of the ARRMA granite big rock plz I’m debating weather I buy it next weekend or not. Hope you see my message!
ok
I can't make up mind ill just get both
🤗🎊🎉
I used to run my rustler alot, but drive shafts and wheel hexes failing just made it too much to deal with. Plus it overheats on 3s unless you gear it down to 2s speeds. When it ran it was great but its costing me more than my 6s arrmas to run. Its a shelf queen now.
Seems like some user error to me :D
Also how the vxl come with metal wheel hexes and thicker drive shafts you either purposely crashe dit or lie about it or you had the old ones which are like 20 year old now...
How does it compare to the Granite?
coming
DO NOT self right in the Arrma lol!! Breaks driveshafts haha
The Traxxas seems to have better suspension and/or tires. Most all tuneable stuff though. The arrma is Definitely the better buy here. Minor adjustments and it's handle beautifully
that your black corvette in the background?
yea, its a unique Chevy blue
@@JayTeeRC beautiful. let's throw that in the mix and hit the ramp! vorteks vs rustler vs corvette. maybe we throw in my tesla to spice things up and get some four way action brewing. three brushless, one engine - only one can survive; who will win? :)
@@elvinowe 🤔🤔🤔😄😄😄
There is no way that is gonna beat the arma
What ramp is that jaytee
skate board
The Vorteks is better all around you can see it.
That battery is stupid too big in that.
huh?
Hard to compare a old release to a just now launch car. Not fare.
Its not fair for the New one cuz the old one is 60$ more
The Rustler is still available for sale so it's relevant.
Thats True, but they should lower the price since its Getting older And older.
It's fair. Arrma wins 🏆
That because Traxxas as usual has not much new to offer, only revamped older models.
