I don't know if "empath" is the best word. From my understanding, an empath is someone who can psychically read and influence emotions - like a telepath, except for feelings rather than thoughts/memories/knowledge.
Yeah I probably should have gone with 'power absorption' or 'power duplication' I said 'empath' as I was mainly think of Peter Petrelli's character when I wrote the video and they call him an empath a couple of times on the show, though technically I think he's supposed to have empathic mimicry but since they just said empath on the show I went with that. You can focus sound waves in a specific direction, there are studies that have proven it, and in many shows that have sonic screams they explain the person has the ability to control the frequency, range and direction of the sound waves It’s not just them screaming willy nilly
Your shape shifting one is kinda flawed. Every superpower is impossible in the way you explained it. Take beastboy for example, you said that if someone grew this fast they would die, but his genetic s allow for this to be possible somehow. Its fiction.I just look at powers like their bodies allow themselves to somehow not die from using their powers. Take superman, most people would say in real life having superstrength like that would be hard as you would destroy everything by slightly touching it. However I think in the FICTIONAL world I think superman's body allows him to adjust his strength depending on the situation. They're bodies are designed for their powers, somehow.
Jeremiah Gilyard your right in a way but there is no way someone would be able to change forms in seconds instead of millions of years. Also just because are jeans are like other animals doesn’t mean we can change the ones that aren’t.
I agree cause there are multiple shape shifters in the fictional world and some are portrayed as humans. So I would of course assume that having the ability to shape shift would also include a way for the rest of your body to adapt. Like for example people with superspeed don't just have "superspeed" along with the power their body gains the ability to withstand that type of speed and pressure. Cause "normally" we wouldn't be able to move that fast.
1) Black Bolt's scream is actually enhanced by exotic particles; it's not a "sonic scream" by any stretch and keep in mind it's useful in space for exactly that reason. 2) You actually can focus sound into a reasonably straight path; it's how directional sound works. Thus, the sonic scream is actually doable, and there are even animals that use a high-pitched targeted scream to knock out their prey (most notably bats). 3) "Talking to animals" in the comics isn't actual communication; it's merely control. This is a common misunderstanding when it comes to Aquaman. Also, because animals do tend towards pack behavior it's actually relatively easy to get an entire group of animals to do the same thing. You can also use that "in the now" thing to get animals going and then back off; telling them that they are going after a food source, for example, could keep them going even without direction. 4) Excellent points on shrinking!
With shape-shifting, your body probably gains the ability to have very flexible muscle/durable skeleton that’s specially changed for the ability. Also, the mass of the body would probably have some sort of ability that just moves it out of existence without any need to explain that. I think people forget that if super powers were real, they’d be exactly that, powers that are super, they defy the laws of physics.

Shapeshifting - their bones and skin and muscles grow as well, so no bones would break. According to comics using their power doesn't tire shapeshifters. That's just a feature of their ability. Shrinking - all the atoms in a shrunken person or object shrink as well. Their density is smaller because their mass and volume both shrink with their body. Their weight is therefore decreased. Yes it defies physics but it's also fictional and supernatural. Sonic scream - it's more of a loud beam of force caused by screaming, much less a destructive form of audio. 'Sonic scream' is just a cool name and not as literal as it sounds (which one of the reasons why Canary's scream is specifically called her Canary Cry and not Sonic Scream) Empath - that's not what an empath is, an empath is something completely different. What you're talking about is more the power of ability absorption. But still it depends on the ability; you might be able to absorb someone's intelligence or strength or agility. If it's strictly supernatural powers that you can absorb then yes it's useless in the real world Talking to animals - talking **to** animals, not at animals. The name of the ability implies that you can speak to them and they understand you, not the other way around. Therefore you could have them execute tasks for you. This would be super useful in the case of like K-9 units or something similar. But when it comes to *dolphins* though, that's a whole other story.

It can make for good story telling, though. It would be cool to see a hero with classic super powers, but they have limitations based on real physics, and watch how they deal with them.
@@kaytamurrayA. empath is derived from the word empathy . An empath is someone who has the power of empathy. B. In the video needlemouse used the empath and then gave a description for the superpower that is totally different that being power mimicry which can also be call power absorption among other things . To be an empath mean that you have the power of empathy which is the power to feel the emotions of others.
The canary cry issue was acknowledged on arrow season 3 at least with Diggle wearing ear plugs! But Dinah/Laurel was immune however after this point they immediately forget it!
You've mislabeled Power Replication and Absorption (the abilities to replicate and/or absorb other superpowers) with Empathy (the ability to manipulate emotions).
Being able to fly only 2 inches off the ground would still be really useful. You could move silently, never slip, never step in anything undesirable, you wouldn’t take impact from the ground after a jump, and look taller if people don’t notice
Also in Fairness Rogue doesn’t just copy people’s powers, she gets their memories, personality and even skills at times so her abilities are a bit more useful than it might initially seem!
Peter's power was Empathic Mimicry. His empathic power was the mechanism that connected him to others' powers. But empaths are not in and of themselves powers mimics. Hell, the show had a more traditional empath in season 4, and even she had her own spin on it, as a fortune teller
“Shapeshifting could be explained by taking mass from another universe” “Oh no, where’s all this mass that I attained via my connection to another universe gonna go???”
Annnnd to debunk your debunks: If SUPERPOWERS existed, the people who have them would in turn also have their bodies adapted to REGULATE and ACCOMODATE them. The fact you're trying to debunk worlds that accept insane concepts, here's the truth: if our world had any of DC or Marvel's laws of superpowers, our world in turn would have to adapt to those laws, not the other way around.
@Vela S not really since we're already accepting that these "human" bodies can suddenly produce these insane feats. What you don't think their bodies wouldn't naturally create a counterweight to compensate? What was it you said? "You don't look smart."

When you were talking about shrinking, I couldn’t help but think about Block from The Flash season 5 episode 2. When Barry tried to move the block at the crime scene, he says he can’t move it because it’s a whole human body and it’s too heavy, further proving your point
I think with sonic screaming, your body would compensate the sound to protect the user by maybe deafening their own ears. Maybe a different bone structure too that would be durable enough to withstand the vibrations. Also, some serious throat control muscles to change the range, focus, and frequency.
On top of that, most superhumans that can sonic scream, are usually able to manipulate sound to a degree, allowing them to focus their scream. That would also prevent the scream from injuring themselves, as the waves aren't reaching their own ears.
That’s Absorption. Empath is being able to fully interpret moods, emotions, & temperaments of others without reading apparent symptoms, allowing them to understand introverts or discover one emotion is actually hiding another.
Just wanted to point this out. We technically do control animals, like horses are commanded to get us from point A to point B. Dogs are used for a variety of things such as protection, and hunting. Still enjoyed the video.
Me to Lion: "Man I just divorced, my car got repoed, I have IRS on my ass, my light, water, and cable haven't been paid yet and I loss my job, anyways enough about me how's your day" Lion: *"I killed a Gazelle"* 😂😂😂
To be fair, Rogue’s Ability Absorption isn’t limited to superpowers. It also applies to normal, non-superpowered abilities as well. For example, if she touched a master martial artist, she would steal all of his martial arts skills, leaving him with no skill whatsoever.
Your school friend may have had marfans syndrome where they grow extremely tall but, it also affects vital organs and as you mentioned bone growth and strength
Re: Sonic Scream. Most heroes tend to be immune to the effects of their own powers. For example, Dazzler's powers are sound absorption and light emission and as a by-product, Dazzler cannot be blinded no matter how intense the light, nor can she be deafened no matter how loud the sound. So I am guessing Black Canary, Klaw, Black Bolt, Screaming Mimi, Silver Swan, Banshee and others with sonic powers wouldn't deafen themselves -- but if they're going around screaming all willy-nilly, they should be handing out earplugs.
Some other awful powers: teleportation, telepathy, invisibility, super speed, x-ray vision, time manipulation, super strength, super senses, actual empath (which isn’t power duplication, it’s sensing others emotions as if they are your own. You’d never be able to be near people, was touched on in a Charmed episode).
There's some that could work. Although some that wouldn't include, Super strength: You don't have invulnerability and don't even get me started on the physics Super speed: You'd probably kill yourself in the first run due to whiplash and G force. Also good luck coming to a safe stop since your brain and other organs would probably shake around and give you a concussion or internal damage due to an abrupt stop. Invisibility: You'd look like a blob of dust and would have to be naked to even use it Mind Reading: The human mind is way more complicated than simple words as thoughts as movies portray them. I'd imagine it'd be taxing to use the ability. I could go on but yeah there's some powers that would blow in real life.
@@slothful2039 teleportation is probably the only nice one you can probably have. But I think the worst one will be invulnerability the power to pass through objects if you have no concentration on your feet you will fall into the Earth and die.
Who wouldn't find it funny as heck if there is an invasion by superpowered aliens and suddenly the entire human population copies those powers without knowing and kicks their ass?
@5:57 Correction, you could absolutely absorb oxygen at this scale, unless you become utterly subatomic, the real issue is the area of your lungs would be say 30x-100x smaller ( roughly what ant man seems to scale in the movies ) and you wouldn't be able to sustain your body with this drastically reduced capacity. it would be worse than trying to breathe through a straw. the same thing, but reverse of what happens to insects if you scale them up, they just suffocate since their lungs rely on directly feeding tissues, rather than having full pulmonary systems, parts of their body would just go necrotic probably killing them in the process.
Omg. Thank you SO much for bringing up the shrinking thing. It drives me NUTS when something big is shrunk and someone picks it up like it ain't no thang. A correction: Empathy is the ability to sense other people's emotions.
Hmm depends on what kind of empath. If we're taking one Tha can *only* mimic super abilities it would be useless irl. But if we're talking empaths like rogue from xmen that'd be cool irl as well.
Power absorption is taking other powers, being an empath is basically being a telepath but instead of thoughts it's emotions and feelings, and they can manipulate them instead of being able to manipulate memories/thoughts
Here’s the thing about black canary: her ears immediately can adapt to the deafening sound of her canary cry. like super speed, sonic screaming come with a bunch of secondary powers to balance the force and power behind the main power.
The big problem with lists like this is that for any given superpower, there are a bevy of lesser powers that make it work. That's something many comic and manga writers have known for a long time, but apparently some people are still catching up.
Shape shifting is super underrated. I'd argue that unless it's very v e r y limited, then it would still be useful. If you have no limitations, you basically get multiple powers, flight, strengths, etc. If you have limitation in terms of powers, aka you can't get some powers that require some complex, say being able to eat grass while being a deer, you still have mass manipulation. Even if we go further, say drastic mass manipulation is dangerous if done too quick, you can still do slowly. Imagine the possibilities, being able to control your muscle size or strength (they aren't the same btw, however if you can only increase size of them and not strength it's still useful for looks) or being able to just shapeshift bodyfat away or maybe *redistribute it* if you know what I mean. And even then if it's still not enough, if you could only change, say colours of your skin, eyes, hair, hair length, lengths of nails, eye lashes, make your skin smoother, it would STILL be way more useful than the majority of super powers irl. E.x. Invisibility. It can be viable... If you're already blind and can move via echolocation, but that's about it. And the situations where it's useful to go invisible are even rarer than shapeshifting in it's minimalistic form. With invisibility you have to be naked, either be able to see via echolocation, or remember the location precisely, not be trackable and avoid dirt, dust, mud, modern technology etc. So shapeshifting? Pretty underrated. And best of all, unlike some other super powers, it's fully controllable.
If you think about it because many if not all powers can be replicated in dc/marvel via genetics a shapshifter could have literally any ability they can imagine if they know of it's existence, you wouldn't even have to know the how a power achieves it's function because as demonstrated by shapeshifters in media most have a kind of shifting instinct that helps fill in the gaps.
Having empath in the real world is still a useful power, at least the version that Rogue uses. You don't just steal powers but you can steal memories, skills and even someone's personality. Imagine if you're interrogating someone and they're not talking, just take their memories by touching them. Or say you're preparing for a fight, all you gotta do is find a professional martial artist and take his skills by touching them. Have an upcoming test and didn't study ? Get the answers from the teacher or the smartest student with the power of the empath.
You put powers in the real world but used real world science and philosophy on something that is fictional ! If your gonna put powers in the real world you should use how the powers work in fiction and put the fictional laws into real world as if it was the norm .😪👍🏽
When it came to quick growth, I was a weight lifter in high school and college and from 2009 to 2011, I gained over 85 pounds of muscle mass and 30 pounds of bone mass. It was fucking exhausting and I still have the scars from my skin stretching to this day.
empathy refers to sensing other peoples emotions, not copying any abilities they have. In superhero and scifi fiction, empathy is a psychic ability to actually feel someone else's emotions. In real life, however, empathy involves trying to recreate the other persons emotions in your own head by imaging yourself in the other persons situation or by determining what they must be feeling because of their situation or by reading the facial expressions and then remembering those presumed feelings from the memories of their experiences.
“In real life that seems incredibly unlikely to work.” As opposed to how likely one is to have shape shifting abilities? Also if one had such an ability I’d think their body would be genetically programmed to be able to shift back with little to no consequences. Even if they didn’t shift their mass back and forth from another dimension who’s to say their cells can’t alter to become denser to compensate for the mass they gained when/if they shift back to a smaller form? Also if you’re a shapeshifter like Mystique you can only get so big as she’s normally limited to the sizes of humans so all she’d really have to do is bulk up and use said bulk as fuel or better yet maybe she could have special cells that store all the excess energy from food that would normally turn into fat to use for when she shape shifts. If one has such an incredible power then it stands to reason their cells can be just as incredible.
There is a saying, "Animals speak to those who know how to listen". Maybe not words, but body language is very telling to those who can read it. I worked under a master horseman who could put a horse's body language and actions into words. And after a while working with horses and him I was able to do something similar. To understand animals you have to think very simply. I do not think I could properly explain it, when a lot of it is feel and energy. You have to learn to think like a certain animal to understand it. And it is not an easy thing to do because the way animals think is very alien. TLDR- body language and learning how that specific animal thinks, will help you understand animals.
Alrighty comics have been through this with aqua man, he doesnt “talk” to fish their brains are far too small and less complex than human brains. He explained he gives them commands and they obey. This is how I believe “talking” to animals would actually be semi-plausible in real life.
sound actually can be directed and they actually have made directional speakers where you can only hear the sound if you're in direct line of the speaker
My top five superpowers that can work in real life. 5. Healing factor 4. Photographic memory 3. Spider sense 2. Super human speed 1. Super human strength Just my opinion
I've always had a problem with animal shape-shifting especifically. It's always treated as if there is a finite amount of options the character can choose from (that being the animals that exist on earth, of course). But they can transform into dinosaurs without feathers, aliens, demons, and sometimes animals that are fictitious in their world. All that without knowing anything about their biology. Like, if Beast Boy imagined an animal, could he transform into it? What if that animal just so happened to look exactly like Robin, or a common object? If you can transform into any animal you see, without knowing anything about how their bodies work, and without somehiw having their DNA inside of you already, then you could probably just use it as normal shape-shifting.
Okay to break the sonic scream one since people have already talked about the shape shifting one, it’s a sonic scream which helps deliver a close hit. Also team arrow or any black canary ally wears special ear devices to block them from the attack. In the rare occasion they don’t, she doesn’t use her ability or takes that risk. Also an empath is someone who can feel/manipulate someone’s emotions not copy their ability. That’s referred to as the negative touch/power mimicry/power augmentation.
1) That is not the definition of Empath... Peter Petrelli's is Empathic Mimicry (he has to feel or understand the person, which is being an Empath to copy their powers). Empaths feel others' emotions (in some cases they are also Projective Empaths, in which case they can make others feel their emotions or feel the emotion they desire someone to feel. 2) Their are loads of Super Powered people on our planet. Watch Stan Lee's Superhumans. Sure, most of their powers are no where as impressive as Superman or The Flash, but they have powers. 3) Your Shrinking argument contradicts your Shape-Shifting argument. If someone can compress and rearrange their atoms, they can maintain the same density while growing, shrinking, and alterimg the configuration. A Blowfish or Puffer can rapidly expand with no harm to itself then shrink back down. Caterpillars shapeshift into butterflies (yes, this is a slower process, but it coukd be sped up), you are looking for ways to make stuff not work, but only by ignoring ways they could work. 4) Ever been in a car and can't hear the people in the front seat while you are in the back? Sound travels directionally, it can be focused and directed, yes residual sound reflects back or even may reverberate outward, but the cone effect depicted is more accurate than you are giving credit. Sound Cannons don't affect people behind them, there is a reason a little foam can soundproof a room and while theaters are build certain ways. 5) You have the superpower to consume a gallon of highly corrosive and poisonous liquid (Hydrogen Hydroxide) everyday as well as continuously breath a corrosive and highly poisonous gas (Oxygen), so be happy about that, you got your wish. The power that should be on here is Invisibility, at least in the Invisible Man/Invisible Boy variant, where you become 100% transparent and aren't projecting an illusion or somehow compelling others to not see you. If you are making light pass through you: A) your power requires complete nudity and an empty stomach, as clothes, items, food, and drink would all be visible. B) You woukd be blind as light woukd pass through the back of your eye instead of reflecting and transmitting info down your optic nerve.
I have a theory beast boy is actually super dense and doesn’t need to transform into, say a strong animal, he actually already has super strength because of his density and when he shape shifts the levels of density change, and his cells expand and retract, just a little theory, no hate just saying my thoughts, nice vid btw.
An empath can read, understand and multiple someone’s emotions and at time can multiple emotional energy to generate solid constructs or psychic blast. The power you described is mimicking. Some empaths can mimic someone’s powers depending on the strength and nature of the empath’s power, but mimicking is not a common empathic ability.
0:593:55 a possible way shapeshifting into a larger or smaller being could work, is if the person shapeshifting used an internal scaffolding of sorts, kind of like how a 3D printed object’s infill works. Where the object or person isn’t entirely solid, and is mostly hollow. The amount of energy required to shape-shift could also be cut down if the molecules and cells their body was made of had very weak bonds with each other, which would require less energy from the person to rearrange them. The major drawback of this is that the person would most certainty be weaker than a human, and less durable. They wouldn’t be able to pick up a 5pound barbell like we can without ripping apart. Although the healing factor would be great, it would not good enough to counteract such a negative drawback. Although a possible solution to this would be if the person had the ability to strengthen the bonds between their cells temporarily by using a form of the electrostatic effect. Basically, the bonds between their cells would be about as strong as ours. This would allow the shapeshifter to easily break those bonds in order to change shape, but it would use a form of the static electric effect to pull those cells together, and prevent them from getting torn apart from each other when trying to do the most mundane tasks. Another way a shapeshifter could shapeshift is if their body acted less like putty, and more like a blanket or bag full of shredded memory foam that they could will into any shape that they wanted, this would require energy to not only do, but also maintain the shape. They could also have a passive mode that supplies energy to maintain their form when they aren’t consciously trying to maintain it, which would prevent them from reverting back into their default shapeless form. This one is basically a better version of the sandman or clay face style of shapeshifting, but a worse version than the one I mentioned first with the easily breakable bonds.
Well if you think about it if you have a subpower to go with Shapeshifting like enhanced healing, cellular manipulation (being able to increase or decrease the amount of cells in your body), and enhanced durability then shapeshiting is possible. Also, Sonic screams can work if you have the sub ability to manipulate sound and focus it into a single direction, and had stronger vocal chords that could withstand the force of your scream then it’s possible to apply it in real life. Although, the people around you would definitely still be affected so there’s no denying that.
I know this is a wee bit late, but I was surprised not to see invisibility mentioned, if light passed through you, you would be blind. Also if you could fly you'd have to do so slowly and low to the ground to avoid freezing, and to avoid small dusts, and debris from shredding you.
Cyclops: If you were able to launch kinetic blasts through your eyes the same force would be applied AGAINST your eyes, and it would push them into and through your head.

It can make for good story telling, though. It would be cool to see a hero with classic super powers, but they have limitations based on real physics, and watch how they deal with them.

Common error. Back in "Heroes", the TV people labeled Peter Petrelli's power this way.

Peter Petrelli's power was Empathic Mimicry not solely Empath. Empathy is to feel others emotions just like telepathy is to know people's thoughts.
Yes.
Peter's power was Empathic Mimicry. His empathic power was the mechanism that connected him to others' powers. But empaths are not in and of themselves powers mimics. Hell, the show had a more traditional empath in season 4, and even she had her own spin on it, as a fortune teller

If SUPERPOWERS existed, the people who have them would in turn also have their bodies adapted to REGULATE and ACCOMODATE them. The fact you're trying to debunk worlds that accept insane concepts, here's the truth: if our world had any of DC or Marvel's laws of superpowers, our world in turn would have to adapt to those laws, not the other way around.

Black canary doesn't Hurt herself because she have a special membran that protect her ears

To be fair, Rogue’s Ability Absorption isn’t limited to superpowers. It also applies to normal, non-superpowered abilities as well. For example, if she touched a master martial artist, she would steal all of his martial arts skills, leaving him with no skill whatsoever.

An empath has the ability to read and sense emotions
Some other awful powers: teleportation, telepathy, invisibility, super speed, x-ray vision, time manipulation, super strength, super senses, actual empath (which isn’t power duplication, it’s sensing others emotions as if they are your own. You’d never be able to be near people, was touched on in a Charmed episode).
🤨 dont u think that having a super power would basically mean th1t ur body adapts to it
Empathy is the ability to manipulate and feel the emotion’s of others psychically not the ability to copy powers
I have a feeling that every superpower dont work in real life
There's some that could work. Although some that wouldn't include,
Super strength: You don't have invulnerability and don't even get me started on the physics
Super speed: You'd probably kill yourself in the first run due to whiplash and G force. Also good luck coming to a safe stop since your brain and other organs would probably shake around and give you a concussion or internal damage due to an abrupt stop.
Invisibility: You'd look like a blob of dust and would have to be naked to even use it
Mind Reading: The human mind is way more complicated than simple words as thoughts as movies portray them.

EMPATH, REALLY? Imagine a guy who could fly a plane just by touching a trained pilot!
Hmm depends on what kind of empath. If we're taking one Tha can *only* mimic super abilities it would be useless irl.
But if we're talking empaths like rogue from xmen that'd be cool irl as well.
Baba except Rogue is not an Empath. Feeling other’s emotions is not the same as absorbing or mimicking abilities.
Isn't an empath someone who can sense people's emotions?
The big problem with lists like this is that for any given superpower, there are a bevy of lesser powers that make it work.
That's something many comic and manga writers have known for a long time, but apparently some people are still catching up.
That only applies to some comic booka and anime characters. Most people know this, apparently some people are still catching up.

Lol you're saying all this as if all the other superpowers make any sense and could work in real life.
For shape shifting, what if they didn’t grow actual flesh and bone, but something else like water or something

An empath doesn't copy powers. An empath can read and manipulate the emotions of others.
I can just imagine how weird it would be holding a small truck but it being extremely heavy
not to mentio you can't bring atoms that close together in the first place.
empathy refers to sensing other peoples emotions, not copying any abilities they have.
Agreed

I never knew it was some super powers that won't work in the real world and nice video man :]
I've always had a problem with animal shape-shifting especifically.
It's always treated as if there is a finite amount of options the character can choose from (that being the animals that exist on earth, of course). But they can transform into dinosaurs without
feathers, aliens, demons, and sometimes animals that are fictitious in their world.
You could use Power Absorbtion to absorb peak human strength, and intelligence, or absorb an owl's night vision or a cheetah's speed.
Flying only 2 inches off the ground would actually be useful to a paraplegic person
If you are making light pass through you:
A) your power requires complete nudity and an empty stomach, as clothes, items, food, and drink would all be visible.
8:30 Did this man just create SOUND in outer space?
Damn 😂
Now you should 5 superpowers that could be possible in the future
0:59 3:55 a possible way shapeshifting into a larger or smaller being could work, is if the person shapeshifting used an internal scaffolding of sorts, kind of like how a 3D printed object’s infill works.
This is why I subscribed to your channel.
Copying skills would be the best super power to have in my book
4:54 the pym particle is specifically designed to alter a persons mass accordingly to size but increase strength
