    Lovely job. I do all my own papering with the exception of the hall, landing and stairs. Ladders, huge drop - I chickened out and got a professional to do it. Good decision.

    Lovely job. Could you explain the method in measuring for the amount of paper needed for a staircase wall as I know this can confuse folk. Me included. I know certain papers with a bigger pattern repeat can make it more difficult with wastage etc. Thanks

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  4 роки тому +1

      30 ft in a roll.. Usually I measure up and add one or two rolls on... some paper can be damage ink marks and because you don't know what pattern your customer will go for.

    I always cut my ceiling cut asap to try save leaving paste marks on ceiling, wash as soon as agn with as hot a water as i can stand , found last yr or 2 that if you use vinylMatt on ceilings instead of for example fast matt it wasnes off no problem & no paste marks left wither or paint coming off on sponge.
    Ps iIalways use a ready mix paste for hanging finish papers ie Harlequin
    Any reason why your using Solvite packet paste?? Not dry too quick on the edges?

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  6 років тому

      The reason i left the top was because it such a long length you need to get it on so the pattern does not stretch especially with this paper. The ceiling is silk emulsion so no trouble with paste. I know what you mean with paste marking the ceiling this is usually down to cheap matt emulsion. Your better using a vinyl matt or a washable matt Valspar is great it's scrubbable. The reason I used a packet is because the paper is that light and ready mixed can be too thick.

    Is that a vinyl paper?
    Used to do a lot of papering in my heyday, when I lived in an older house. Had to do the ceilings also. Great job.

      Thanks, no it's not a vinyl it's terrible paper like tissue paper once soaked. Was ripping out of my hands under its own weight.

    I bet you had a few swear words doing that on your own especially being Laura Ashley paper which seems to tear every time you look at it especially the couple of times I have used it,but very impressed especially doing the biggest drop on your own but as usual the finish you leave is top drawer 👍🏻

    How did u find working with Laura Ashley paper ? I bought a lot in the half price sale and it's a lovely looking paper but took aaaaaages to put up because the surface finish was so delicate...even following the paste soak instructions it misbehaved itself a lot ;)

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  6 років тому +1

      It's a nightmare the first length rips on the corner and I nearly drop the length. Horrible to work with but they do have some nice patterns.

      @@PaintingandDecorating you did a smashing job as usual.you are an inspiration.I worked out when I did a lounge with Laura Ashley Isadore paper that it was taking almost twice as long to paper....gotta love their designs tho...

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  6 років тому +1

      Yes, it's a joy to paper but not with a lot of Laura Ashley papers they drive you mad. This staircase is just nuts it's like shut your eyes and just stick it up because my level of perfection and what the paper allows is just not even close.

    I wanted to see how you cut the bottom bit, with it going diagonally.

  • @ascno1970
    @ascno1970 6 років тому

    U not use a plastic spatula & sharp blade for the cuts? Very old sko using scissors, inknow its a laura ashley but with a sharp bmade shluld cut no problem?

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  6 років тому

      I never use a spatula really I've got a metal one about 1 meter long to make straight cuts when the paper has no edge to sit against at the top, sometimes use blades. But scissors leave a better finish and are cheap to run.

    • @ascno1970
      @ascno1970 6 років тому +1

      I use a muraspec board & olfa 9mm blades

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  6 років тому

      I just found blades can leave the edge looking rubbish you can usually tell straight away if a paper has been cut with a blade. I stopped using them and saved money on buying no blades have had my scissors for 3 years.

    Laura Ashley is the worst quality of wallpaper I have ever put up. The quality is completely shit. Lovely patterns but the paper quality is abismal.

    Get yourself a little giant extending aluminium platform mate... Wider and much safer... Bit dodgy the old scaffold plank

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  6 років тому

      Loads of reasons why we use this type of set up. Your scaffold being too wide can be a problem on a staircase. You need to be able to remove the plank and change level fast. They are safe to work on when you understand how to work on one there is a special technique to it, having the ball of your big toes on the edge of the plank so you can feel it.

    • @JoeProDecor
      @JoeProDecor 6 років тому

      @@PaintingandDecorating the little giant extending aluminium platform isn't too wide. Never had an issue with the width and its as light as a scaffold plank because its aluminium.. Its also safer than a scaffold plank and is in line with health & safety

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  6 років тому +2

      Never had a an issue with the plank if the little giant works for you great. And if you have others working for you then better keeping in line with health and safety.
