The final episode in The Chinese Silk Road series! In this episode we head to the city of Kashgar, on the border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. We experience the hustle and bustle of the Kashgar cattle market, before heading into the ancient centre of the city itself to discover more about famous local crafts.
You guys have a lot of talent. Frankly I was surprised halfway through the first episode when I discovered you were independent from any of the major production corporations. In fact this series was probably superior to most of the stuff that comes out of BBC or Nat Geo. Everything from the substantive narration to the visual cinematography to the editing and music was on point. I hope you make a lot more of these types of documentaries.
Thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate it. Hopefully I can get my work seen on the same scale as BBC or NatGeo some day haha. I will be looking at making some more in the near future!
@@graemelangford4094 I agree with all of the praise offered for these episodes but maybe invest in a pop-shield for the narration. Other than that I look forward to your next uploads. Consider me subscribed.
@@sbtechdif Thanks!
If you like silk road, then try NHK, japan.
Yes, very professional’s Documantaries🌺😊
Graeme, I am of Chinese ancestry from Guangdong province, born in Hong Kong, and have been living in Toronto, Canada for over 4 decades. Your Chinese Silk Road 3-episode series is extremely informative and entertaining. You and Chian Wang had taken the time to delve into the history and culture of each stop along your route, thereby adding context to your narrative. I agree wholeheartedly with some of the remarks here, the quality of your videos are comparable to productions from the BBC, National Geographic or The Discovery Channel. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much, Julie (and sorry for the late reply!!)
@@graemelangford4094 Why have you stopped making videos? These are amazing and exactly what I was looking for!!
@@williamkiley2328 hey will, I havent stopped making films. I work professionally now for ESPN. Hoping to make more travel stuff shortly though so keep your eyes open. Thanks!
I was DELIGHTED watching the 3 episodes. Your narrative is entertaining...you are very talented, keep up the EXCELENT work. Had learned a lot today.
Thanks Mabel!
Awesome and unbiased documentary. For a person from Indian subcontinent, where weathering erased most of the ancient monuments and history drowned the ancient traditions, preservation of old and continuity of traditions in China is very appealing. The focus of this documentary on continuity of cultural heritage is greatly appreciated. Best wishes,
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
My wife and I will be traveling the Silk Road from Xi'an to Kashgar next month. Very glad to come across your work here. I've learned so much that I know will really enhance our experience.
What??!! There is no more??!! I was looking forward to seeing you tracing the silk road all the way through to Europe!! Do you have any plans to continue your journey from here to finish the entire silk road? Thoroughly enjoyed your videos.
My son is in Xi'an today and I stumbled across your videos! Thoroughly enjoyed them all. You are a natural and I truly wish you all the best for the future. I expect to see you on the BBC one day as you are the fresh young face of the future - they need you!! Well done - brilliant x
Thanks for the kind words, Linda! I really appreciate it. What is your son doing in Xian?
I'd love to work on the BBC some day! I'll be making some more stuff in 2018 so keep your eye out for it :)
Graeme Langford Hi Graeme - he's doing a Student union international cultural exchange Lancaster Uni/Beijing uni and took optional weekend trip to a Xi'an and Terracotta. Well you can't go all that way and not go can you??? Picking him up tomorrow from Manchester airport so can't wait to hear all about it 😍.
Excellent. I'm sure he had a great time!
@@graemelangford4094 LOL. I really like your work. You are a genius! BTW, most Chinese don't like BBC since some of their programs about China are not so objective, just bringing shame on China.
Delightful and informative. The silk road will continue till eternity.
There are not enough words for such amazing documentary. The three videos are so beautiful.Thank you for offering us this free ticket through our screens to the one of the most famous journeys of history.I already watched your videos not just once but many times and believe me I will again.I wish my trip was longer.
Thank you for the great review! I'm happy that you have watched them many times. I hope to produce more like this as soon as I can!!
Hopefully, waiting.
I originally watched these episodes for an assignment from school but I ended up completely forgeting about the assignment because I was enjoying watching these so much.
glad to hear it!
My 6th grade ancient history classes enjoyed their "visit" to the Silk Road. It was a welcome break from our textbook. Thanks for making history come alive!

I am teaching an elementary course on the Eastern Hemisphere which is sadly lacking in visuals. Your series was so beautiful and informative. Thank you for all you put into this. The kids insisted on watching all three videos together!.
this is the best documentary I have seen, thank you for your clear speaking voice and not overpowering everything with music. You delivered such a lot of information the whole way through. And thank you for not spinning the camera around so fast that it makes one dizzy. I look forward to more docos from you, best wishes
Watched all 3 parts... Well done...👍🏻👍🏻
it is absolutely great work and I really enjoyed it! I am from the very south of China, it is a shame never been to any silk road cities, I really would like to travel through again the silk road route in the future. Thanks again for the inspiring work. I will be thrilled if you guys are having plan continuing the journey to the west:)
Thank you! Yeah if you get chance you should try to visit the silk road cities. They are absolutely fascinating. I'd love to continue this journey further if I could get the budget! haha
When you could be there if it was never China ?
It was occupied by Chinese in 1949 and free from Uighurs in 2000 , after genocide the area free and now only now ethnic Chinese go free and travel

Great, great series, Graeme! This is so touching, literally, brought me to tears. Loved every bit of it, the scenery, the streets, the conversations, the people... Thank you for making such a great film of the beautiful, diverse life and culture of northwestern China which I myself as a Chinese haven't experienced so far.
great documentary that throws an entirely new perspective of central and western china. Amazing history and melting pot of so many cultures
Outstanding documentary! Can't believe this doesn't have millions of views yet. Now I really want to see a series covering the whole route from China to Europe.
Thank you!
Well done Graeme. I have been visiting China since 2001 for two, three months every year and I have never seen The Silk Road as you have shown it, Thank you for a great series.

Thanks man! Hope it's useful for your presentation!
Interesting look at an area that few would have seen.
Wonderful vídeos, both professional and enriching. Thank you for your great work!
I enjoyed your series. You captured the locals with their eyes and when they talked about what they felt so proud of. I loved exploring the old cities: the preservation of buildings and the people living there. You covered such a variety of topics: the food, the music, the goods, the stories. Your Mandarin is very decent.
Thoroughly enjoyed all 3 videos!!!! Thank u so much. I now wanna go visit each city
Hi Graeme, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this series. Absolutely wonderful done. Cudos my friend! Keep up the awesome work.

Thank you for the very excellent videos, could have wished for more but you do not tire us with too many words, your speech is so clear and without stress, I am most pleased to have found these 3 episodes. I love visiting China and the places you covered after Xi'an are not really that accessible so it was good to get there with you both. Keep up the good work!
Very informative, very educational. Thank you for these videos. Thoroughly enjoyed them💞👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Great job with this series. My wife and I made pretty much the same trip about two years ago. Still think of it all the time. Been in China more than seven years now and have seen a lot here, but I still love watching documentaries about this place.

Since the first episode, i was thinking, is this guys from discovery channel? Yet, seen his subs, dear you deserve more. Im living in china now. Since junior high school i dreamt about going to the silk road. I'll stay here for 3,5 year more. I'll spend my last year to have this journey too with my husband next.
Thank you, Puji! Glad you enjoyed it.
Mr Langford and Mr Wang this series is of BBC or PBS quality.
Kudos to everyone involved in this production ; in front of and/or behind the camera. Just stupendous in so many areas😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. A lot of work went into it!
You are definitely talented. You captured the spirits of the Silk Road. Hats off.
Your research, presentation, passion make it simply excellent. Thank you to take me to silk route which I could never do in reality.
....what a wonderful journey through out history....
Never been to XJ but definitely high on my travel bucket list! Thank you for the video. No China bashing and just your discovery of what was the ancient silk road.
Awesome job! Wish you could get it subtitled into Uyghur and show it to the guest stars, I believe they'd feel very glad and moved by the finished work.
As a student in China I also had the opportunity to travel along a good part of the Silk Road in several trips by Fall-Winter 2015-16. Although I couldn't manage to reach to Xinjiang, which I always wanted, It was an unforgettable experience. I regard all of these places with deep nostalgia and after watching this I feel an intense need of a comeback
Thanks man! Appreciate it. Yeah, I never actually thought about having it translated into Uyghur... I could do with finding a professional translator to help (the Uyghur in the interviews was translated by a friend of a friend as a favour).
It's a special place for travel. Glad this could bring back some memories for you!
Thanks for the wonderful information on the silk road, you have covered all the major details.I being a history teacher learnt a lot
Thank you, Manisha. Glad you enjoyed it.

Please someday , if you can, do a video of the whole silk route, to the European parts as well.
Just brilliant!
Educational, Informative, and Professionally executed documentary ! Thank you.
So fascinating and so informative, makes me want to visit the places you visited and experience and look into the inhabitants' lifestyle and workplace! Thank you for this wonderful documentary which I chanced upon! Greetings from Switzerland!

It's a very cool place
Awesome. Please do more documentary ❤️Like others even I was surprised at the end of episode 1, that this is an independent piece of work ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good job Graeme !
He is more like a tour guide than explaining the history of the silk road.
