Love this series: my dream would have been to travel with Marco Polo on his epic adventure: you just can’t even begin to imagine how incredible it must have been: have been to the house he lived in in Venice : he truly was amazing 😊❤️
I love this series so much that I wanted to reserve my comment, but historical trauma won't let me. 00:08:15 "It has not been forgotten that in 1907 two European Archeologists - some say Art Thieves - smuggled large parts of the Mogao Cave treasures to Europe." Fact: They were Thieves calling themselves Archeologists. European Thieves never call themselves Thieves.
This is a documentary from 20 years ago? It's hard to see old trains like this in China now, and very few cars like this. Many of the old cars have been scrapped. Also the way ordinary people dress, which is also fashionable around 2000. Finally, there is very little pollution in Lanzhou now, especially in the last 20 years, and you don't really see such bad air.
Many so called Buddhist do not truly under the teachings of the Buddha. Buddha came to help mankind to become better people so there is less suffering and more joy. So that there is love, kindness, compassion and joy, instead of anger, hatred, cruelty and suffering.

Marco Polo brought spegti back to Italy wrote a book about his travels to China that inspired Colobus to sailed to China but he discovered America instead .
It's very amusing -- and VERY telling -- that the comments section is incredibly defensive. "This must be very old - nothing's like that now!" If you watched a Western documentary from 20 ya, no one would even mention it. You might get a few, "I had one like that!" but that's it. The incredible "look, we're civilized too!" is 💯 a Chinese characteristic.
Not true! I am an American and Chinese Buddhists are very spiritual. I was there 12 years as a finance professor. I met one atheist out of thousands of people. This guy may know the Chinese language but not the people. Also, Buddhists do not look down on other religions. And some Western people have studied Mandarin for centuries. I was a finance professor at Peking Univ, the number 1 university. Bradley could not keep up with those students. I taught PhD students with lots of math, English and Mandarin.
i dissagree with you and agree with him...from what i have seen in Asia...in every Buddhist country the westernization especially of the young is taking them farther from the true message and honest spirituality...they are obcessed with getting a blessing of prosperity or simply ignoring religion paying more attention to Malls Motorvehicles/ fancy Foods and CellPhones...of course there are a few sincere believers..but the masses are still lost and superficial.

i traveled through the great gobi desert many years ago, i don't think i would go again. the desert wasn't very good. especially the cherry pie and chocolate pudding. the jello was o.k. but the velvet cake was downright nasty.

Lovely videos
From the phones people used in the video, I am sure it looks like 1990s China, certainly not now.
