I still remember when this was released, and my local rock station played the album in its entirety that night. I got the cassette soon after, and played it to death over the next few years. It is still one of my all-time favorite albums, and has many fond memories attached to it.
Ride the Lighting is my favourite metal album because it was the first metal album I had ever heard, and For Whom The Bell Tolls was the first Metal song I heard ever. When first listened to it absolutely blew my mind away. Ride the Lighting is just straightup special to my heart lol. Even subjectively its a top 10 metal album of all time, its just an amazing album lol
Good episode. Reinventing The Steel is my all time favorite album. Has been for 20 years now. Perfect blend of old school writing with modern sounds. Very Sabbathy. Lots of grooves. A little experimentation. Great drums. Catchy memorable songs without being overly simple. Trademark Anselmo screams mixed with a ton of vocal melodies. Favorite riffs. Great solos. Dimebag felt like he had shed his influences and truly found himself. I love everything about it. Even the two soundtrack songs are killer. Perfect.
I absolutely am in love with and justice for all idk what it is but it is my all time favorite. I do acknowledge that there is no audible bass on that record
Metallica is also my favorite band I go back in fourth between Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets as to witch album I think is the best. But I Fade to Black and Creeping Death are probably my favorite Metallica songs along with Orion.I got into Metallica with Justice in 1989 I remember getting all the other CDs at the time then liking Enter Sandman when it came out.I remember going getting the black album the day off it took me awhile to get use to the new sound but I liked it.They were also my first concert at 15 in 1992 with GNR and Body County where I live in San Diego,California.
Ride The Lightning fudging rules!!!! Definitely a metal classic. Also, Night flight rules too! IFC plays reruns here and there, though usually during the witching hours.
If I had to put the songs in a tier list this is how I would rank them S Tier: For Whom the Bell Tolls, Fade to Black, Creeping Death A Tier: Fight Fire with Fire, Ride the Lightning B Tier: Trapped Under Ice, Escape, The Call of Ktulu
Sorry for the possible grammatical incorrectness. The Black album was basically the first complete metal record I've ever heard. I got it for my 7th birthday and I fell in love with it but I didn't really care about the fact that it was an album by METALLICA. Then some years later, we were helping my uncle with moving out and came across a bunch of old cassettes and CDs. He said he didn't need them anymore and that I could keep them if I liked. The majority of them were pop and Beatles albums but there was one I felt to be familiar. It was Ride the Lightning by Metallica. The moment I'd realised it's the same band that had produced The Black album I took it immediately. However I kind of forgot about its existence for a couple of months. Then one night when there was a huge storm with lightning and strong wind I realised I had it and listened to it for the first time. It felt so perfect I actually felt as if I was riding a lightning. Every track of it felt and still feel like masterpieces From that point on is Ride the Lightning my favourite album, and is Metallica my favourite band of all time forever.
I wish I started like that. Unfortunatelly, I was born already in the internet era and I started listening to Metallica from UA-cam. After knowing like 7-8 songs I realised, that all those I loved the most have that cool blue cover art, so I checked up the album. It became my favourite immidietly and it hasn't changed 'til now
As a wise man once told me, you have an excellent taste 🤘 And don't be sorry about borning in the world of internet, it's great being able to listen to whatever you want, whenever you want.
I didn't really dive into Metallica until 2018, but believe me when I say I love this band as if I was listening since 85'. This album to me is the perfect thrash album. Fight Fire with Fire is my all time trash song and this album fucking kills it from front to back, and back to the front.
Agreed - What a record, totally set the blueprint and inspired hundreds of bands in terms of sound and feel. Just listen to Trapped Under Ice at 1:50, tell me that’s not the DRI guitar sound...point is, great, great, timeless record. I actually saw the Ride The Lightning Tour when I was 11 years old. How cool is that. They were opening for WASP! Armoured Saint was also playing. Some things do last forever, and Ride The Lightning is one of them. Thanks for the video.
I first had the black album and load then when I went to go back to look for the older stuff the first album I got was ride the lightning too. To me its either ride the lightning or master of puppets
Hi Steven!!! I don't know if it's my favoirte album of all times, but it was the first one i heard from Metallica back in the day.... absolutely loved the first 3 songs and that was it, been a fan of the band since then.....but i don't like that much the 90's stuff they put out even the "black album"
too hard one album per band!! RTL and MoP....O.O but i agree with your choice. Also One was the first Metal Video i ever saw.....and yeah Sandman after...wow man glad to see someone who appreciates my fav album of all time as well!!
This is my fifth favorite album of all time. It’s just so fucking good. Fade to Black was my favorite Metallica song for a long time (but I recently started liking Wherever I May Roam more). All of the songs are perfect, even Escape and Trapped Under Ice. Believe it or not, but I used to absolutely hate For Whom the Bell Tolls, and now, I have no idea what I was thinking. I saw Metallica live in Little Rock, Arkansas on January 20th last year, and they sounded great live.
@@OldHead Creeping death is the best I have seen Metallica probably 15 times since 1992 and they have opened with it over half the shows. It is a great opening song.
This was the first Metallica and metal album I heard and owned. I was really into rush and then discovered metallica on youtube so I researched them and then saw ride the lightning at a cd store and picked it up because it looked cool and I really liked the song creeping death. No regrets still perfect back to back to me
Good point, I may not agree Ride is better than Master, but it's what speaks to you. Master is by far my favorite album, because there were no weak moments. Orion was perfectly placed while the instrumental on Ride seemed to be just throw-in. Combined with Escape, Ride gives you only 6 songs worth anything and only 3 or 4 can be considered classics. Master is a fuller, more cohesive, better written and more dynamic album and doesn't lose that thrash pedigree. UNLIKE And Justice, it's also better produced. And I'd argue EVERY SINGLE SONG is just a blazing masterpiece of metal mayhem....Battery, Master, The Thing, Welcome Home, Leper, Heroes, Orion, Damage? EVERY SINGLE SONG absolutely amazing. EVERY song on Ride was not amazing. Escape was weak, and other songs like Trapped, Ride and even For Whom The Bell tolls are solid but not earth shattering songs. YES, Fade to Black, Fight Fire, and Creeping Death are EPIC, but that's all it is. The production was solid and the lyrics were a marked improvement over the simpleton lyrics of Kill Em all (despite that being a blazer album), but Ride was merely a nod to what Metallica was GOING TO BECOME, on Ride they had not fully developed their greatness yet. On Master...THEY DID!!!
Yeah He likes many of the albums I Like too.I'm 42 I grew up in San Diego. We all had the same MTV many of the same chain record stores. We also got the same magazines. Also back then no internet and Radio was better way more adventures they played deeper cuts and more then just a few songs by each band thank you clear channel for ruing American Radio.
I'm from Greece, still the impact of these things is so inique that it's not a strange that as the video progresses it went like I was listening to a narration of MY music/Metallica childhood and teenage story!.. My fav metal album, my fav band!
I absolutely am in love with and justice for all idk what it is but it is my all time favorite. I do acknowledge that there is no audible bass on that record

I can't decide if Master of Puppets or Ride The Lightning is the best Metallica album. Metallica is a great band
In this situation you can only decide according to "favorite", not "better"!
Dude I flip flop all the damn time on this I think my favorite is ride the lightning but I think their best album is master of puppets
I agree, best one they did imo and i love most all of them! Thanks for doing this list! Lighting over Master any day 🤘😃

Same even though ride the lightning and master of puppets are technically better, there is something about justice i can't explain, just the vibe.

One of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. Its probably number 2
If I had to put the songs in a tier list this is how I would rank them
S Tier: For Whom the Bell Tolls, Fade to Black, Creeping Death
A Tier: Fight Fire with Fire, Ride the Lightning
B Tier: Trapped Under Ice, Escape, The Call of Ktulu
Surly shift ktulu to a
My favorite Metallica album too and one of the best albums in general

Yeah saw this coming a mile away lol. I don’t blame you though, this is one of my favorites as well. Top 5, maybe even top 3, easily

Other then appetite of destruction. and black album my favorite album of all timie
RTL isn't my all time favourite album, I think it might be The Wall, but for sure RTL is my favourite Metallica album.
This is my fifth favorite album of all time. It’s just so fucking good. Fade to Black was my favorite Metallica song for a long time (but I recently started liking Wherever I May Roam more). Creeping Death. A close 2nd is The Thing That Should Not Be.
