  • This un-cut video of the bobsled ride at Mystic Mountain in Jamaica gives you the rider's point of view as the coaster speeds down the mountain.
    It takes two minutes for the coaster to travel down the hill, and then three minutes for it to be towed back up to the top. The first 30 seconds of the ride are slow, as the coaster leaves the station on the mountaintop, but the next minute and a half after that are quite intense as the bobsled speeds downhill through the rain forest. You can hear the passenger screaming at several points during the ride.
    This video was shot using a GoPro Hero 7 Black mounted on to a gimbal, in order to get stabilized video without shakiness.
    We visited Mystic Mountain and rode this fun alpine coaster as part of a shore excursion out of Ocho Rios during a Caribbean cruise with Carnival Cruise Line.
    As this was my first time on the bobsled ride, I used the brakes during a few of the curves. I would have liked to have gone on the ride another time or two after that, and tried it without using the brake, but we were running short on time and had to get back to the cruise ship.

    I love watching POV videos! This bobsled was so much fun when we did it! I'm reliving it again! It's much longer that the Dragon's Tail Coaster in Labadee! Loved it!

    Unlike most Roller Coasters I liked that this one was so scenic. It was cool how it slowed done in order to do that at times.

    That was amazing thanks! Looks more intense than the coaster on Labadee that we did. If I can ask one question, what is that water slide that the end that seems to dump into a pool?

      That's at the top of Mystic Mountain, where the bobsled ride begins and ends. They have a swimming pool that overlooks the cruise port, and there's a nice waterslide that dumps in to the swimming pool. It is free to use, if you are up at the top of Mystic Mountain.

    Jim, How long did you have to wait to ride the bobsled? I've heard the wait time can be quite long. We're doing same cruise on Horizon in September.

      We had a really long wait for it. Way too long, really. I didn't time it... but I'd say it was at least 45 minutes. I don't know if it's always that way, though. By the time all the people in our group had finished their ride, the line was down to about 10 minutes. So, perhaps we just managed to arrive at the time of peak demand.

    Where you able to control the speed?

    • @JimZim
      @JimZim  5 років тому +3

      Yes, there's a braking system that you can use. If you want to go super fast, just don't use the brakes. It was our first time on the ride, and we didn't know how intense it might get, so we used the brakes on a few of the curves just to feel that we were in control. If I could go back and ride it again, I would try it once with no brakes, just to see what that felt like.

    Nope - not for me! I’m too risk averse! I went with my friends to Dunn’s River Falls & I was content to stay at the bottom & enjoy my own little tide pool & waterfall!
    I did try the Flying Dutchman in St. Martin & hated it!
    I think I prefer watching your model trains going around the tracks at your house!
