Chaos In The Rain: CART Cleveland 1999

- The 1999 CART race at the Cleveland airport was one to remember. The race started in the dry, but rain was on the way. Of course chaos would ensue, otherwise there would be no point to making this video.

This was my favourite time for CART. We got it on free to air TV here in Australia.
Cleveland is the greatest airport racing circuit of all-time
I actually really like this layout. Would've never thought a layout on an airport would look this good but I really like how wide it is
I miss this track
Bring back Cleveland..whatda!...greatest memories in CART..God bless
Cleveland rocks. Indeed.
Great race! Man ,I miss those CART days. And Montoya, balls out as usual.
I am once again asking for IndyCar to return to Cleveland
IndyCar needs this track sometime on the schedule for sure! It's so unique and Edmonton was also a fun track on an airport too.
It is not commercially viable as the city and county are not going to pay for it and no sponsor or sponsors has ever come forward to pay either.
I miss those cart days, awesome racing
Bring back Cleveland!
Indy racing league at Cleveland 2024
I'll just say this as someone who lives nearby and frequently visits Cleveland. It'll take a miracle to do so but we've seen stranger things
If/ when mid Ohio is off the schedule it might happen
@@ATB_614 ok mid ohio isn't going anywhere with the turnouts they've had for 4th of July. However, if repaving turns out to take a lil longer than usual.... a phone call to Cleveland could theoretically occur. IndyCar can't not visit Ohio
Best circuit of its kind
I'm one of those who says the airport never should have been taken off the schedule. It always created great racing.
I think the vast majority of us would agree with you 100%.
The comment on Robbie Gordon was pretty funny. 8:49
The cart series was barely controlled chaos all the time. Rain only added to it. Good times. Man those things sound good.
Cleveland always put on great races no matter what the series was. I mean, they ran IROC thre
I know, I sugested it before, but for another crazy 1999 race
Detroit. Just....that race had everything
Cleveland was an amazing racing track. What I don't understand is why IndyCar Series don't back to run at Cleveland.
I can't wait to see your channel grow. You 100% make great and entertaining videos for your audience and we love to see it. Showing us and telling us about history all while making it entertaining for us to watch and listen too... I find it crazy that you can do this! Not even teachers that are trained to teach history can do it this good. Bravo mate Bravo - From some random Australian guy
Wow man, that is one of the greatest compliments I've ever received. Thank so much 👍
1999 was a wile year. I was at this race, Mid Ohio, and the Indy 500 the following year. It was amazing to see. I also got to see him in the subsequent F1 USGPs. I wish Montoya was more active now.
I loved this track as a kid
How does this channel only have 3K subscribers!!! This is premium motorsports content!
I really appreciate that. I just keep doing my thing and hopefully others like yourself find my content. For the amount of uploads I have, and the fact i've only been doing this for less than two years, I'm thankful for all the subscribers I have so far. Comments like this definitely give me extra motivation to keep going, and to keep improving on my content.
I remember watching this race live on TV. Very entertaining. Even aside from the tire issue, I don't know how they see where they're going in the rain. I used to do a lot of long distance, multi week motorcycle touring, during which I had to do a lot of riding in the rain. It comes with the territory. I was equipped for it, but with a full face helmet in a heavy rain you have to make a choice - keep the visor closed and stay dry but have a very hard time seeing where you're going, or ride with the visor open and get a constant spray in the face but be able to see slightly better. I always chose the latter, but even then it was challenging, especially on a freeway with the spray from other vehicles much like in this race.
Burke was an awesome track for spectators. You could see the whole thing from the grandstands and we stayed half hour away or so at a campground Indian somethin or other.
This race had campgrounds on site too
Iracing needs to make this track. was one of my favorites
Although I love the idea of Indycar returning to this site I would like to see another small oval track somewhere on the schedule as well.
Brings back Memories. Love your coverage & dedication. Keep it up!
Your Channel is pure Gold!
Cheers from 🇩🇪 but I'm 🇮🇹
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos!!!
Wish Indy (or even NASACR) would bring this track back.
Please dont stop! These are the best cart champiomship videos!
JPM was really one hell of a driver.
Cómo si fuera ayer, que autos tan hermosos
Always saddens me when I see Greg Moore.
Missing from this was the Tire War that was properly demonstrated in the varying conditions. I was fortunate to be at this event this day and watched how Firestone, who had the better dry condition tires, and Goodyear, who had the better wet condition tires, went head to head. And the video proved this as you see how strong both Montoya and de Ferran were throughout the race, but it all came down to track conditions as to who would win.
Always huge crowds, great viewership, and great racing. The Cleveland Grand Prix is much missed. But so are these cars as well.
I dearly miss that era of Indycars (CART). These modern cars are fugly, and the series is dominated by 3 - 4 teams.
8:20: I was at that race and there was also thunder and lightning. In those days, races in all series were never red flagged due to rain,, no matter how bad the aquaplaning was, and not lightning either. That came about in the 2000s as there was increased awareness of "safety" for the drivers and the spectators, crews, course marshals and the camera people up well above the ground.
Juan Pablo Montoya 1999 was the fastest an Indycar has ever been driven.
Shoutout Cleveland
if that tire pile was in an FIA race there would've been penalties and flags left and right
I loved this track. I planned on going to a race before the merger. I was finally making enough money to be able to afford leisure trips like that.
Awesome little docs
Thank you!!!
Man your videos are like crack! I can’t get enough
Hahah thanks Nick 😂. I appreciate that 👍
"Rookie Juan Montoya"
Makes me feel old
Remember seeing this on Live teevee. 😳🤯😮
I'm watching in 1999 Cart At Cleveland on UA-cam, Demise90.
This circuit is so wide, even good for today F1
Juan pablo!
Chocolate Rain 🌧️
Suggestion: Make the audio mono so it's not only in one ear
Yeah, I've messed around with it, but I couldn't get it to go. I have some ideas for the next time that I want to try. As I have a future video that I want to do and the original audio of the race was like this too. I'm determined to figure it out lol.
Juan had that #BDE as a rookie.
If I remember right. There was still the tail end of a tire war going on here. And though the Firestone slick tire was vasty better, Firestone didn't have a very good wet tire at this point. (It was actually rather bad) Compare the plain tread design to the Goodyear curved gatorback tread design. But by this time, only Penske was using Goodyears. Thus giving Penske an unusually good finish for this race. Normally the hapless PC-27B was way off the pace.
NASCAR’s problem is they throw a caution every damn time it rains allowing crews switch to rain tires. To make it interesting, the race should stay green allowing straightly to play out with teams deciding when they put on wets.
I'm right there with you.
Yaay party \(^v^)/!🏁
JPM!!
I really do not understand why cleveland gets his own tv serie and indycar race, I want a Quagmire grandprix as well, giggity giggity
Sadly, Burke Lakefront is closed and Cleveland wants to demolish it.
Did they actually go through with it? Last I saw it was just a possibility.
Nothing's been decided yet, but the airport is city property. Mike Lannigan had said in the past that if he had a title sponsor, he'd promote the race, but he's not doing it out of pocket again.
I'm also not sure in the condition of the runway since it's used very little.
The only thing really keeping it alive is the airport used for when the sports teams come into town and business executives. Unless cleveland international is doing that now
Fake news, the airport is open. Politicians come and go who have plans to do something isle with the land, nothing has changed.
Burke is NOT closed.
Hey buddy , I think the audio is messed up . A lot of spots with silence .
Hey Jack. Unfortunately the audio for the race footage I got is in mono, therefore it only comes out of the left speaker. I've tried to fix it but my video editing software isn't capable, or I'm too much of an amateur to figure it out. It's been driving me crazy.
Also, this is particularly annoying with headphones. Not so bad through a TV, phone, tablet speaker etc.
Same with me. I can only hear out of the left ear bud. But it's no big deal.
Great video!
@@Demise90Racing this might not help, but since it is mono, your software may not realize it. I would try to change TO mono. I know that sounds counterproductive, and you may have already tried it. It was just the first thing I thought of. Thanks for covering this race either way!
Indy car needs to improve a lot, these car were awesome and all the drivers were charismatic, these new drivers have no personality and having only one chasis builder makes the competition boring.. I’ve tried to watch Indy again and I just don’t see the excitement as on the late 90’s.
Why not fix that audio?
At the time I made this video, I did not know how to lol. I figured out a work around for the future though, so it won't happen again.
A chi che piace Detroit perché a me non piace e bruttissima
Urgh audio audio commentary audio urgh thumbs down sorry!
