    It's so funny that "Yunners", a colonist from the max-pop run, became the de facto title for your meat beacons. He wasn't originally meant to be bed-bound, but acquired horrific brain damage from a botched psychic harmonizer installation. Locked mood just happens to be a positive side effect of becoming a vegetable.

      You know, most of the RimWorld w a r c r i m e s don't bother me, they're kind of silly in the context of the game. But the concept of a psychic meat beacon, locked in a closet drooling out joy to everyone around them is just so uniquely RimWorld, and somehow far more horrifying than the run of the mill harvesting of parts. I didn't think this game could do that to me anymore.

    There's a fun thing you can do with the corrupted obelisk if you don't mind losing one. Let it's activity climb, when it reaches 100% it will activate, creating 30 duplicates of random non-ghoul pawns. (technically it's based on raid points and just capped at 30 but with your wealth it'll always be 30) Thing is, they're perfect duplicates just like when you manually use it and they're all hostile, meaning no organ decay, no duplication sickness, no crumbling mind. So what you can do is anesthetize Warmachine and send everyone else except the ghouls out on a caravan, then either let it hit 100% activity or have the ghouls punch the obelisk to trigger the duplication, and since Warmachine is the only pawn on the map it will create 30 clones of Warmachine, and since Warmachine is anesthetized, so are all the clones. You can then bring the caravan back and capture all the helpless clones.
    This does destroy the obelisk but I really don't think you'll need it after doing this, and you now have a spare anyway.

    The warmachine that gets dedicated to crafting should be called AssemblyMachine
    The electro harvester damages the entities it extracts power from. Sometimes it's brain damage that instantly scars. You can use this to slowly drain their sentience until they're permanently downed, then they can never escape. It's slow enough that they can't die except if you leave them long enough for the brain to get destroyed.
    The good part of this is it works for every kind of entity (except bulb freaks I guess?).

    You know this is a proper Francis John rimworld run when he's captured some sort of hideous void abomination and he's discussing how to deliberately give it frostbite so he can freeze off its limbs and farm it for resources.
    Also for all the computer scientists out there: you have to call one of the clones "Turing Machine".

    Xenotaph could feel it again. That itching, uncomfortable, yet alluring sensation in the back of his mind. "Just ignore it. It's fine. It'll pass." He lied to himself under his breath while keeping an eye on who was around. Peshet had incredible hearing and he wasn't trying to give himself away. That would come in its own time he knew. Eventually, once the itching was unbearable and the whispers actually audible instead of something that could be ignored as background noise or machines, he would break. That simple. He would reach the end of his ability to resist. He knew what happened then (scritch). The horror. The shame. The ridicule. Someone, one of the machines usually... fucking clones, always made some kind of remark or comment. It's not like he was doing this on purpose (itch) and he most certainly wasn't having fun (barely audible whisper, "You love it..."). Head down and focused on his tasks Xenotaph pushed it away as best he could. He was just glad he had a useful ability or he seriously wondered if he would have been ghoul food by now.
    Over the next few hours Xenotaph began exuding signs of his void fascination creeping up. A small twitch here. A biting remark to a normal comment there. Rubbing the base of his neck unconsciously. All the while unaware that all eyes were on him. Waiting. Xenotaph noticed Victor had been kind of "around" a lot more in the past hour or so. Victor approached Xenotaph and asked if he needed a hand with anything. Immediately on watch (itch) Xenotaph slowly turned to face Victor who took a small step back while subtlety reaching for a weapon one eye brow raised. "NO." (whispered laughter) Xenotaph cleared his throat and said in a more even tone, "No. I'm doing just fine. I have a lot of work to do so..." and turned back to his tasks. Victor moved away but did not leave the room Xenotaph noticed. The whispers were getting louder now and he knew it wouldn't be long. He wasn't even necessarily upset with Victor. He was very aware of what could go wrong should he release a REVENANT (intense short burst of joy trailed by ghostly giggles). It was always like that in his mind these days. REVENANT. All capital letters. Like he couldn't see them as anything less than the magnificent (scritch) creatures they were. Eyes glazing and fingers twitching, Xenotaph broke.
    Sighing from across the room Victor said, "About time." then yelled through the doorway, "PESHET!". From another room the reply, "Fucks sake. Right now?!" dwindling into inaudible curses as people began moving towards the containment area. Peshet yelled, "Shits! Front and center!" as she moved through the base with the rest making their way from various areas, shits included. Victor was already following Xenotaph. They had an idea they wanted to try out. If they could just snag the Revenant right before he fully freed it, then maybe that would be good enough. Then they could just chain it back to the platform once he was out of his daze. Easy peasy lemon... whatever.
    Xenotaph wasn't (was?) completely in control of his body. At least that's how it felt. Sort of. It was a very difficult feeling to explain as the wall to his right giggled at him. The audible hallucinations had begun. On the one hand he was a passenger in a vehicle headed directly into a horror show. On the other he could feel his body and was able to make motions if he wanted. The problem arose when he tried to actively go anywhere but the containment area. The floor beneath him was whispering how right this was and how he was chosen. There was a tether in his mind that was taut (itch) and being drawn directly to one of the entities (REVENANT). If he tried to turn away he lost complete functionality as if someone briefly grabbed the wheel (laughter echoing in his mind) and course corrected him. Every. Single. Time. This wasn't the first time this had happened. That was the problem. It wasn't the second either. He could vaguely hear people shouting and moving about. He knew Victor was nearby somewhere. Probably following him. "Can't even turn my FUCKING head!" he ranted in his own mind. The lights sang a mocking song at his expense while the beds from the medical room called insults about his heritage.
    Peshet watched as the shits lined up without having to be told where to go, paused to consider them for a moment, and the gleam in their eyes, then shook her head and made sure everyone was in position. She was very happy to discover you could just stun the Revenants with psychic abilities instead of having to waste flares on the ones they could already see. Everyone set up and in place, Victor followed Xenotaph into the containment facility. He tried his first plan of just relocating the first entity Xenotaph went for, but Xenotaph just changed targets. "Shit!" Victor exclaimed and hurried to finish securing the one he had already started moving. Peshet came running in, saw what was happening, and enacted the "catch as released" plan with a fair ease of success. The timing was impeccable. For a moment after they had finished securing the Revenants they thought it had worked. Xenotaph was leaving the room. Peshet and Victor looked at each other, then grinned. As they left the containment facility they found Xenotaph had not gone far and appeared to still be in a daze. Grins replaced with exasperated expressions they went back to work while keeping an eye on Xenotaph.
    Xenotaph was cheering in his own mind while the entities leered at him. They had done it! Sure he was still in a daze but he could leave the room! Progress! He wandered the chattering and laughing halls of the base. Not really bothered by the random shelf that called him something offensive nor the ceiling threatening to drop itself onto him at any moment. These were old hat. He'd been here before. They couldn't bother him now that he'd made progress! The damn ritual spot though... that thing told nothing but puns nonstop. No. Just. Just no. After a short while (scritch) he could feel the tether reforming (REVENANT) and drawing him back in. Now, he was terrified he would be in an endless loop (less... less... echoing in his mind). They would catch the REVENANT and he would wander off in this daze again... would he ever be free of this nightmare? He watched numbly as he entered the containment facility where Peshet was already waiting for him as she moved his target to another platform. Just as before his body turned automatically (the bioferrite harvester cackling mad nonsense at him) to the other REVENANT and he began his most holy work. He could not deny the ecstasy that filled him as he unbound the REVENANT. In this moment he was wholly subsumed by his fascination. The entire world sounded as if it were cheering him on. Lauding his merits to the heavens for all to hear. The platforms were singing his praises. The walls bellowed a victorious howl. The floor urged him to move faster. To release the REVENANT. ON. THEM. ALL!
    Then the world was silent.
    At least by comparison. The voices were replaced by slashing sounds and gunfire. The distinct ringing of a psychic shock going off to stun the REVENANT. Xenotaph immediately angry and embarrassed, again, began to open fire on the REVENANT (whispered apologies in the deepest reaches of his mind uncertain to whom they belong) to help clean up the mess he had made.
    Once the Revenant was taken down and the spine contained, Peshet walked over to Xenotaph and smacked him on the back of the head. The sound drawing the attention of everyone nearby. Peshet said, "I know you can't help it, but that's for the headache you gave us. Figured I'd share." Then walked away as Xenotaph looked down and rubbed the back of his head. A knot already forming. The floor giggled at his expense and he groaned, "Oh, no...".

    Your curtain wall area includes the exterior wall. This means that if something hits the outside wall, your pawns will leave the base to go repair it from the outside since they can not reach it from the inside. You need to remove the 2 outer wall layers from the "Curtain Wall" zone to prevent them from ignoring your zone restriction when something attacks the outside wall.
    Edit: You missed it, but 5Machine went out while you were fighting the mech cluster at 1:03:05 to repair the wall even though they were supposed to stay inside.
    Edit again: You caught War Machine leaving the base to go repair the walls. Just remove the outer 2 layers of the exterior wall from the "Curtain Wall" zone, and they will stop going outside to repair it.

    • @Genesis8934
      @Genesis8934 5 місяців тому

      Another idea could be to make it a two-layer curtain wall with a corridor going all the way around and airlocks every so often. Or instead of airlocks, use wooden barricades to make it a literal firewall lol.

    • @azrobbins01
      @azrobbins01 5 місяців тому +2

      @@Genesis8934 The problem with that is that when they destroy a wall, they will then go after another random wall anywhere around the base.
      If you have 2x or 3x thick walls there is only a 1/500 chance that they will target the wall segment directly behind the one they just broke through.
      But if you have a corridor between the walls, they have a 50% chance for all the mobs to begin targeting the next interior walls and they will all start breaking through much faster.

    • @Genesis8934
      @Genesis8934 5 місяців тому

    • @azrobbins01
      @azrobbins01 5 місяців тому +3

      @@Genesis8934 There is nothing wrong with his current setup. He just needs to remove the outer 2 layers of wall from the curtain wall zone so they will not try to go outside when something is trying to break through.
      If they start to get close to breaking through, he can build some extra wall segments on the inside right where they are attacking. Shamblers only last 6 hours when they are the attacking type, so you just have to wait them out and they will drop dead. 2 layers has always been enough for me.

    If you decide to build Atmospheric heaters, I recommend you build 2 sets: some connected to your main grid to prevent temperature to go below -10 celcius and some connected to an independant array of solar panels that raises temperature to 10 celcius. The first set will prevent plants from dying from the cold. The second set will activate during the day allowing plants to grow, but it won't activate during the night when plants are sleeping. I recommend you put the first set into a closed room with vents connected to your barrack to save power during the night.
    Or I guess you could just capture more tough spikes and brute force it all. That'd work too.

    • @vRANDv
      @vRANDv 5 місяців тому +5

      I found the most interesting use of the atmospheric heater to be equipping your entire team with phoenix armor and cowboy hats. Jack the outdoor temperature to 100+ C, and basically all biologicals will die of heatstroke when they come onto the map.

    • @Tamizushi
      @Tamizushi 5 місяців тому +3

      @@vRANDv Oooh! That's a very cool idea! You're basically turning the whole map into a heat tunnel! Do they heat up the map fast enough that you can activate it reactively when a raid shows up or do you need to keep them on 100% of the time?
      BTW if you are going extreme heat, use tribalwear. They have a much better heat insulation than pants + buttom-down shirts.

    • @FrancisJohnYT
      @FrancisJohnYT  5 місяців тому +1

      I did some experimenting with pumping up the temp to 190C at that point humans start taking burn damage periodically. That way raids die really quick as the heatstroke was not working fast enough.
      However I could not get the coolers to work anymore. So it was impossible to grow plants or run a freezer. Need some way to generate cooling at high temps so you can grow crops and freeze food.

    Edit: for capturing those Toughspikes; ghouls with wooden hands. Removes their claws, which would severely hamper their ability to cause bleeding wounds. Would be a major step backwards in this case, but for anyone else trying this, it's a good starting point. Besides the already mentioned negative of needing one for every enemy faction, the two other issues are range and time. The range is only something like 40 tiles, so you can't cover the whole map Perhaps, say, just the killbox.
      That leads to the second problem, time. No matter how negative someone's mood debuff is, their mood bar has a maximum rate in which it will fall. So you would need the right faction, in range of the raid, long enough for it to affect them, and even then it causes them to act more chaotically and you really are better off with predictable raids. Fun concept, but still not practical. Perhaps if sensitivity increased range.

  • @Wolfau5

    - Is it worth having a prison near the killbox to speed up captures and use for over-capacity?
    - I'm guessing this is the plan but when you get Dead Calm, you can give that to all your prisoners.
    - I'd set most of your pawns to gene rip when safe to do so (especially Peshet as some vampire genes are amazing) and you can sell off the surplus genes (they're not that valuable but it all adds up, even with your gold statue trick, if you're at the wealth cap, more is more and there's little downside to it, especially if you went on more ambitious shopping runs).
    - You're getting to the point where IMO you could invest in having animals (e.g. dogs for hauling, muffalo for wool and as beasts of burden). I don't know if dogs can eat twisted meat, or if any changes have been made to the "human fridge" strat.
    - I would capture most enemies that are downed in a fight and gene rip them. You can gene rip them twice or scan their brains (you having a Yunners means you can probably just ignore the mood penalties these cause, and worst case scenario you have mind numb serum) or release them after a single gene rip. You can also do this on downed enemies with Death Refusal on them.
    - That Highmate a few episodes back... I wonder if you used that psychic eating ability on them (making them psychically deaf) if that prevents them forming psychic bonds? Might be worth testing.
    - I'd also get some beauty enhancing genes and bionics, or genes to stop social fights... or both.
