As a US Army Vet, these places hold a spot in my heart and for these soldiers and Families that sacrificed everything to keep us free. Really enjoying this ride with you! Stay safe and healthy my friend!
'Normandy' by Cyril Crain (Juno Veteran) Come and stand in memory Of men who fought and died They gave their lives in Normandy Remember them with pride. Soldiers, Airman, sailors Airborne and marines Who in civvy life were tailors and men who worked machines.
British and Canadian And men from USA Forces from the Commonwealth They all were there that day
To Juno, Sword and Utah Beaches of renown Also Gold and Omaha That’s where the ramps went down.
The battle raged in Normandy Many lives were lost The war must end in victory And this must be the cost
When my life is over And I reach the other side I’ll meet my friends from Normandy And shake their hands with pride.
Hi Sandy yet another great video of our tour. Great to see you doing what I was doing with regards to a roll call of the heroes on the lamposts . It's good to see all the respect shown all over the region both by the towns, villages and private individuals who displayed pictures and flags on their properties.
Excellent video Sandy. Great editing and overlaying the scenes back then over the current day. You did all the brave heroes proud 🙏🏽 I very much look forward to part 3 👍🏽
Thank you Wiltshire Man (Sandy) for sharing these very moving images of the heroes who gave their lives for us in the war. My American friend whom I have known for getting close to 50 years had an uncle who died on Omaha beach.
Great video, i have been there, awesome place and you cant help to get drawn into it, very moving. The American cemetery is very special, i couldn't speak when i came out of there.
I was there three years ago, after coming up from Spain. All the sights are really interesting and quite emotional. Great to see your two mates showing their respects. Well done lads👍.
Another great video Sandy, I need to do this trip on my bike. I rode to Belgium before covid to find my Great Uncle's grave, he was a Captain of the Royal Garrison Artillery and fell 03/11/1917, aged just 35. Very sobering.
That was a hell of a powerful montage where you overlaid old wartime footage with modern images, I could feel the chaos and claustrophobia, brilliantly done. Strange how all those young lives were so disposable at the time, but now are given recognition in stone, though I always find it troubling that their elevation in death serves to underwrite the next conflict for the living, rather than cancel or divert it
I feel the same way Oscar, There will always it seems be another war and another memorial declaring how the massive sacrifice brought peace only to be followed by another war... The "normal" people whether the be "friend or Foe" do not want war or to kill each other, it is govts and the powers that be that pursue war. The only good thing to come from it is advances in technology and medicine but at huge cost and suffering!
Absolutely fantastic video Sandy. Great editing, some of the best I have seen. Drone footage puts everything into perspective. Oh how I wish I was there. Here we drive on the right. I wonder why there are places on the other side and vice versa. Thanks for the opportunity to see this history. Thanks for sharing. Tony.
Wonderful editing Sandy & fantastic tour. As I said previously my grandfather landed on Gold beach with British 12th Corps. He followed the war through to its end. One of the biggest battles he was in, was on the left flank of 30th Corps & their push towards Arnhem. Sadly I never met him but have all his military records & accounts from my grandmother. What we don’t appreciate is the share noise sound of the battleships opening fire on what is now a quiet & peaceful place. Apparently he often spoke of how loud it was. But not much else. Cheers Sandy
Humbling and sobering sights and places in these vids Sandy. Also showing some things that were not there when I visited. So, appreciated all round as a reminder and also informative.
Hi Sandy, I have really enjoyed your trip so far mate, god filming, and some good weather too by the looks of it. I did Normandy a few years ago, and it is a real lesson in sacrifice, made by others for our freedoms today. Excellent Video mate keep it coming, have a safe trip, big thumbs up for the Moose
That was possibly the best work you’ve done.wonderfully filmed with sensitively. As I’m sure you know, Australian forces, particularly air, played a very large roll on France during WW2.
Thankyou, Yes I was aware of other nations participation, sad that the human race has to have wars though. In part 3 you will see the war graves and the historic city of Bayeux
Very sobering visited some yrs ago we specially went to the British cemetery in Caen so we could pay our respects to my wife’s Grandfather there was not enough of him to have a grave so his name is on 1 of the columns 😢 We owe them so much❤, I myself have served so am aware of what freedom costs! RIP one and all.
Great video Sandy. I was also in Normandie around the same time with some oppos on bikes. It’s really well organised and a pilgrimage to those that made the ultimate sacrifice. Looking forward to the next …
Hi Sandy,it’s hard to imagine what D Day must have been like, people think it was just the 6th of June, but it went on for several weeks after,my late father landed in Normandy with the 1st Batt Welsh Guards, not sure what date & I now wish I’d recorded events more when on occasion he spoke about it,all heroes to a man, great video & safe riding on the wrong side, atb Colin P.
I'm sure your father experienced a lot Colin, sometimes it's easy to take people for granted especially when they are family, I often wish I could turn the clock back and ask my own Dad a few questions about his experiences
A great tribute to our forefathers my Great Uncle landed at Sword beach with 45 Commando piped ashore by Bill Millins he was 19 later to die in the Netherlands while being rescued by Eric Harden medical corps attached he was shot again on a stretcher Eric got the VC that day posthumously shot in the back of the head probably by a German snipper after going back for 3rd injured Marine
Very interesting Sandy. Need to do a film about a large section of replica and to scale atlantic wall up here in Scotland near where I live. Was used by the army to practice before the invasion and not many folks know about it. Atb
The French do not forget. The Longues Battery is a brilliant place to visit as is Pegasus Bridge and the museum, I have a photo of the original Bridge still in situ and raised to allow a barge to pass, loads of places worth visiting all along that coastal area.
Great videos! I’m planning a solo bike tour to France to do some of these sights. Do you have a route that I can look at for ideas as I’ve never been to France and I’m new to big bikes! Thanks :)
This is on my ever expanding list of places to visit. Have you been to the WW1 battlefields and memorials? I found those extremely moving and very sobering.
Great video, and reminder how pointless it all was. Its good that there are war graves from that period because I will never visit a grave of my great grandfather in world war 1 because he was left to rot on the Gallipoli battelfield in Turkey with thousands of others because of politicians. Never again that I will support intervention in Europe, I served 23 years and they are not worth one drop of British blood.
Thank you Sandy, such a touching video and makes one proud of our past.
God bless them all, because without there bravery and sacrifice we are nothing 🙏
As a US Army Vet, these places hold a spot in my heart and for these soldiers and Families that sacrificed everything to keep us free.

The American cemetary has this sign: Silence and Respect. Sums it up. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Linda, such a tragic loss of life on those beaches
@@WiltshireMan Yes indeed, I found it very moving to see all those images of the soldiers who took part in the war and I imagine lost their lives.
As an ex Airman and ex soldier myself, their name shall liveth evermore. Lest we forget. 🇬🇧🫡😔

Very respectful and thought provoking.

Well done Sandy another wonderful video. Judy
Great production, very respectful to the horrors of war.
Great video Sandy, I look forward to part three

That was Awesome, Thank you very much. Nice to see you out and about.
Beautifully done Sandy 👍
Great video and brilliant editing, thanks for posting and look forward to part 3 👍
Thanks Alan

Glad you enjoyed it Tony, it was a pleasure to ride on the right:)
A thought provoking film indeed. Still hard to believe so many gave their lives for others.
Excellent that - thou shalt not forget
Again a very good video thanks

Sounds like he must have been in the thick of it Andy, It was very loud, those big guns didn't know how to whisper!
It amazes me that this place can be humbling, horrifying, and holy at the same time.
Great video cheers Sandy

I too found it very humbling Dusty
Great video. Well done 👍
Thank you for sharing your adventure! Very well documented. Cheers!

Thanks Trevor, the cost of freedom is extremely high, almost unbearably high but against such tyranny there must be a fight!
Great video Sandy. I was also in Normandie around the same time with some oppos on bikes. It’s really well organised and a pilgrimage to those that made the ultimate sacrifice. Looking forward to the next …
It certainly was a pilgrimage of sorts Tom
Very nice ride today Sandy. Nice to see that those who gave and lost everything are still remembered in that place.
Apparently Jim in the 1950's some of the war cemeteries were becoming forgotten and over grown, now they are immaculate

We see beach defences just realize what these brave people did. Great video sandy
It must have been a terrifying experience Andy
Brilliant vid Sandy 👏 looked a cracking trip !
It was a good trip Paul, a bit of an eye opener at times to be honest

It's got really dusty in here Sandy😉⚔🇬🇧
Not seen some those places even on documentaries bro so it's great you have videoed your trip, big thanks for that. Safe travels . Ken
Thanks Ken
Brilliant footage Sandy, we was there last year, just visited Utah and Oklahoma beaches from Port-en- Besson, emotional as a ex veteran
I can imagine it would have been emotional John
Good to see you out and about having fun with the gang, great video as always sandy, cheers to you all, ride safe!
Went last year What a great place to ride and visit very sobering to visit war cemeteries,

Whilst we were over there Paul we rode both ways over the new bridge and even saw it open to let a boat through
👏👏👏👍
Lest we forget.
Similarly Verdun is well worth a visit.
Feel sad for all those lives lost. Emotional!! On a brighter note: no potholes seen in the roads so far!!!
Very poignant sandy thanks.
Walking around Pont Du Hoc certainly brings it home the damage shell's can do and what the US troops on that day had to endure under fire.
Great videos! I’m planning a solo bike tour to France to do some of these sights. Do you have a route that I can look at for ideas as I’ve never been to France and I’m new to big bikes! Thanks :)
This is a place I've always wanted to visit, but will probably never get to. Thanks for making this Sandy! Excellent!
Nice video, sandy. Very respectful.
Shame about what you did to the French language, though. ;o)
Look forward to part trois.

Hoping that Part 3 hasn't been lost - we went off on a cycling trip somewhere after this video.
No it's not lost Robert, I just haven't got around to editing it just yet
@@WiltshireMan Great news.
Yeah I know about all this my grandfather was a royal navy marine on a uk destroyer, When all that was happening, In the second world war,,,👍
Did you manage to find a little seat dedicated to Harry Billinge who raised £50,000 and became a national treasure after appearing on the BBC.
Another thing to remember is it you see a triangle with an X in it , it's priority to the right, take care.

I wish Germany had won.
I wish we never had to have wars in the first place and everyone could get along
omaha beach and others, all made up by the powers that be
You never been there then i guess.
Lest we forget.
We wont as long as i breath.
