From a crusty old bugger to 2 crusty old buggers- you have my admiration for your efforts. And, in the wise words of another crusty old bugger (my grand dad) "defeat is only a stepping stone to victory". Cheers.
It is clear by the look of Dave that he us unwell . It is a miracle that he did what he did ! Well done Dave - miracle man ! I suggest you rest and keep warm till you are through it . Great video
I enjoyed the lovely scenery and interesting landmarks. Its pointless flogging yourself when you are below par. I hope Dave makes a speedy recovery too.
Sometimes it’s wise to revise plans if you are not feeling great. It’s supposed to be enjoyable,so there’s no point flogging a dead horse. It was great to watch you covering a good distance and I enjoyed the sights on the way. Thanks for taking us along Sandy.
Better a live donkey than a dead lion, as Shackleton said. It's the better person who curtails a journey to fight another day rather than sacrifice themselves for the sake of glory. Some beautiful sights en route, and I've never been to Frome, but that looked a pretty place too
Sorry about your troubles on this journey, you still managed to make a wonderful video. Hope Dave recovers quickly from his chest infection and you recover too quickly. I am amazed by the feats that you are able to accomplish. Well done and thank you so much for a lovely video ❤
Loved the scenery and small villages. Here is a idea- CW from a narrow boat trip. Any friends have a narrow boat? Short vertical whip? Just a crazy thought.

Thanks 👍Gary. I find it hard to backpack long distances now as I have a hip problem but the good thing is it doesn't effect me when I cycle, so that is my preferred mode of transport these days

Hi from Ireland. Another great production, well done. A few weeks ago i drove to Rosslare ferry terminal in the southeast of Ireland, i cycled on to the ferry and crossed over to Pembroke. I spent a nice few days cycling around Pembrokshire.
Nice trip out guys, and great to see the tunnels with a light. That valley at 9:00 is so stunning, really magical. Interesting to hear how the apple tree came about. A wise move to head for home, never any point in pushing yourself, you have nothing to prove. I actually watched part of this whilst I was riding...!!! I got the exercise bike back out the shed, and now do a gentle ride once or twice a day, I also use an exercise band, so have added that into my little workout. Since surgery, I have piled on weight [currently at 19.5 stone]...so watching you is an inspiration. Rest up, both of you... that journey will still be there when you are 100% fit.

Well another great adventure out and about! sorry you two were a bit under the weather, but kudos for the distance to did complete. and once again. you never cease to amaze me with producing yet another local name that came from there. Hungerford. Castle, we have a street here in Pittsfield Ma, called Hungerford Ave. and I see on the map Salisbury. been there down near Boston Ma. I have relatives there. love the tunnels. I remember them from another video. I can see now that just about 60% of all the towns and cities around here are sister to that area. We have a Shaftsbury Vt just about 10 miles norther of my home. So now we can see why my home is called "New England" my link/lne comes down from Canada. You did an amazing job Sandy … you’re an inspiration… keep doing what you do .. as my dear ole mum used to say ‘if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it’ well done mate.. and that’s from a 68 year old and I don’t plan on slowing down 😉
Lovely video Sandy, pity that you had cut it short but so very interesting with the beautiful scenery, great drone footage of the locks at Devises, thanks for filming your lates adventure, all the best ,Terry & Sharon.
Great trip and video, Sandy. It was definitely wise to cut short the trip as exercising too strenuously whist suffering from a viral infection can lead to cardiac problems, as quite a few athletes have discovered. Hope Dave is now fully fit.
Hi Sandy , Thank you for a lovley video , I hope you both recover quickly . You made the hill out of Alton barnes look easy even though you were both not feeling it . I’ve spent many a night in my camper on top of the hill I love the white horse and fort but it is quite the accomplishment to cycle up . Thank you Peter
Hi Peter, It is nice up there. Although I've been up that hill a few times I have yet to visit Adams grave and a few other places of note close by. I shall have to return
Well my hat goes off to you both. I’d struggle to do that at 41 as I’m unfit! Even more so to summon the energy with a chest infection on Dave’s part. Had you made it to Dorset end, call in to see Bill for a cuppa! The weather is about to change, more seasonal weather, time to break the hot tent out & have a relaxing camp up the woods to recover! Cheers, Andy
Great ride Sandy and right to know when to call it. Like Andy said below. If you decide to try and complete the ride again sometime give me a call and I'll meet you on Lulworth as it's just down the road.
Again Excellent lovely little roads, in the main Sandy ..Enjoyed that ruin.,,. I wish I could cycle now but according the the hospital reports my cycling days are over . But.... er I may get a small run in better weather about but I reckon not.. thank you Both again
It matters little that you didn’t do the planned route, I loved the overnighter anyway, great to see you and Dave out on the bikes with the hooped bivvies and Trangias 🥰 look forward to another bikepacking video when you’re both back up to scratch 👍🏻🤗
I go to All Cannings every 5 weeks and I know just how exhausting that last big hill is ,very popular with cyclists. Great video as per usual mate 👍 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍻
Fair play to both of you Sandy not being that young of men but still up for it. As the saying goes, age is just a number which you have proved many times, this being just another. My part of the country but it looks so different from a bike than a car and getting places I haven't seen for years. I think you have answered your own question about being tip top with the obvious answer by doing and showing as you can be as tip top as you want to be, or enough. Nice hot soaky bath for you both when you get home. But again Sandy, hats off to both of you as you may not have all your health, but nothing wrong with the backbone of either of you.
I am still quite fit and active thankfully. Never smoked or drank heavily and always kept on the go is probably the reason why. I did fall off my bike yesterday though....You will have to watch the next video!
Brilliant effort Sandy - Frome is so close to me I wish that I could have met you both for a chat-Anyway a great adventure that I totally enjoyed watching 👍
Great ride and wonderful scenery. Too bad you couldn't do the planned route but having been less that 100 percent myself in the field, I know how difficult it is. Best place to be is home! Hope Dave recovers soon. Thanks for taking us along on your ride. 👍👍👍
Looked like a great adventure, hope you both got rid of the lurgy. Nice area there for exploring. A dip in a Roman Bath would have helped cure you both. 😀
Shame you're both ill. A real shame. Turns out I've got long Covid & I'm in a race to be well again as it's my mums 80th on the 19th. 😬 Not sure I'll make it & she'll be devastated!! 😭
Great video... Looked a tough one especially against that head wind. I have not rode through the two tunnels yet , ( Looked good ) Hope you both feel better soon, and can get back out on those great adventures.
That was a very nice look at a great bicycling adventure Sandy. 117 miles is not a short ride, that is for certain. You made the correct call on not going the full trip that you had planned my friend. There is no logical reason to keep going and risk your health and continue punishing yourselves and not really creating any intense joy. There will be an abundance of "next times" so no worries there. The tire puncture was a downer, but, you were prepared and handled that beautifully and turned it in to being just another part of the experience. Thanks to both you and Dave for sharing your time with us again. See you on the next one. Cheers!
Thanks Terry, Tubeless tyres can be a pig to remove, The bike came installed with a tube, I don't know why they didn't supply it tubeless in the first place
Fab video as usual ❤ The drone shots of the stepped locks was really impressive! As I have said before, thank you for bringing me on your adventure. You are inspiring me to take the kids on something similar. Hope Dave and you feel better soon. Are you wearing padded shorts? They don't look good but they make a difference 😀 ps they are 2 lovely doggies to welcome you home!
Thanks as for short, no, just normal clothing. I have since replaced the saddle with a different type which is so much more comfortable. No need for lycra or padded shorts
Really interesting video Sandy. You and Dave make a great partnership - hope Dave is feeling better. Good to see you have your Drone back, you are very good at using it. Thank you and Stay Safe.
Sandy, lovey ride and a shame you couldn't complete the whole journey. Looking at your planned route, you would have cycled through my village - maybe next time. All the best to Dave for a swift recovery. I looked at your links for Outward and Homebound journey's and they appear to be the same. Not sure if this is an error
Get yer ebikes out! No point knackering yourselves when there's watts and amps willing to do the work. You make great vids Sandy and I'm inspired to get around Mells on my Fiido and look around thanks to you. Happy travels.
I wonder how long it would take a barge to navigate those locks. Still a great adventure even if you had to cut it short. Hope you both get back to form soon. ATB.
Get marathion plus tour tires and say bye bye to punctures. Running them on a Kona Sutra tourer, excellent tires. Dunno how hard they are to take off, but easy to put on. Using a tyre Glider though rather than tyre leavers.
Hahaaa Noel, did you see the "Click stand" ? Still my favourite ultra light stove :) You are fortunate to live in a lovely part of the country, but my part of Wiltshire ain't too bad either :)
Oh well never mind, there is always next time - not worth flogging yourself if you're not feeling it. BTW I never looked back going tubeless .. I carry a spare tube just in case .. but one of those superlight tubolitos tubes. However you still have to maintain them (i.e. top up the sealant every 3 months or so if needed etc.). I would do two wraps of tubeless rim tape, don't trust what's on the wheels already .. I like 'dynaplugs' when I do get a puncture that doesn't seal, but that's very uncommon. Oh you need a pump with a chamber to get the tyre seated or use something like an 'airshot' canister.
Oh sorry to hear you had a fall did you hurt your self? I used where those short finger leather cycling gloves the give your hands some protection if you come off. It’s the shock which can be as bad as the fall . Take it easy for a bit 👍🚴🏾♂️
@@MsDenver2 I didn't feel a thing at first Donna but the pain started to set in a short while afterwards and got worse toward the end of the ride. Taking it a bit easy today and pain is starting to subside if I sit still. Just a cracked rib fortunately. Things will be back to normal in a few days. I was lucky :)
Thanks for still taking the trouble to film your adventure Sandy even though neither of you were feeling it. Much appreciated as always 👍
Appreciate you watching and commenting John, thanks
From a crusty old bugger to 2 crusty old buggers- you have my admiration for your efforts. And, in the wise words of another crusty old bugger (my grand dad) "defeat is only a stepping stone to victory". Cheers.
I like your Grand dads quote :) Never give up
Aw, what a lovely welcome home ✨🫶🏻
It's always nice to come home :)
What a great welcome home Sandy after a couple of hard graft days👌💪Thanks for a great video and KTF🙏
I love my two dogs Marty, couldn't live without a dog or even better two in my life:)

Fair play to you both Sandy, still had an enjoyable couple of days though mate, good effort.
We still had an adventure Paul and it was good to get out

It was a sheer joy to return home to the dogs Marcus........and Mandy ofcourse:)
Sometimes it’s wise to revise plans if you are not feeling great. It’s supposed to be enjoyable,so there’s no point flogging a dead horse. It was great to watch you covering a good distance and I enjoyed the sights on the way. Thanks for taking us along Sandy.
Thanks Neil, your right there :)
Do love a Sandy video 👏👏👏
Your both tough men for giving it a go. Enjoyable video WM 👍👌
Good effort, Sandy (and Dave.) Two days outdoors is still better than two indoors. And those hills looked tough. All the best.
I think you two are amaizing, that was a long hard ride with loaded bikes, what a great ride out, cheers.
Just ordered a new saddle so hopefully the next ride will be more comfortable
@@WiltshireMan I agree with dave on that one, the brooks b17 works well for me.

Thanks Bill the Caen hill locks are very impressive and the drone shows them well
Great video as all always 😊
Fair play Lads, good effort!
Thanks it was nice to see Bath again and the canal
Bath is a very historic place Chris
Lovely video, I think it shows great spirit to attempt this trip when you're not feeling your best. Hope you're both on the mend.

Fab video as usual ❤
The drone shots of the stepped locks was really impressive!
Thanks John, I have a new video later in which I talk about my drone, test out a new saddle and have a bike crash
Amazing trip, you both did very well...
Thanks John
Sandy, lovey ride and a shame you couldn't complete the whole journey. Looking at your planned route, you would have cycled through my village - maybe next time. All the best to Dave for a swift recovery. I looked at your links for Outward and Homebound journey's and they appear to be the same. Not sure if this is an error
I probably messed up with the Strava links, will sort it soon
Get yer ebikes out! No point knackering yourselves when there's watts and amps willing to do the work. You make great vids Sandy and I'm inspired to get around Mells on my Fiido and look around thanks to you. Happy travels.
How do they charge them up 😮
@@charlieoscar09 A charger
@@DeePaignall Oh i see plug the charger into the nearest Tree....Great (Not)
Ebikes are great but for long distance adventures give me my slow pedal powered bike any day
I wonder how long it would take a barge to navigate those locks. Still a great adventure even if you had to cut it short. Hope you both get back to form soon. ATB.
I think it takes a good day to go through those locks Rob
@@WiltshireMan that’s what I thought.
Get marathion plus tour tires and say bye bye to punctures. Running them on a Kona Sutra tourer, excellent tires. Dunno how hard they are to take off, but easy to put on. Using a tyre Glider though rather than tyre leavers.
I don't know if they will fit on my wide rims on the 29er
Hope you are both feeling better Sandy.
Of course, you were straying into my stamping grounds for some of the ride.
Take care,
Noel
Thanks Colin, I am thinking of switching to tubeless
Those step hills can take it out of you especially if you’re not a 100% but when you both feel on top you can always do another long ride😊
I hope to get out again soon, Now have a new saddle which is a lot more comfortable, also fell off my bike yesterday...Ouch
Nice one guys👍
Was that your old drone repaired after it’s dunk or a new one?
Great video as always, hope Dave feels better soon 😎
You will have to watch my next video Colin to find out:)
