polygon crew playing any game, after the first round: "I do not trust and have never trusted Pat."
I worry about their work relationships from all these board game dynamics lmao
Pat: "I literally have no idea what I'm doing though"
Everytime they play this kind of games, i can never not trust Pat. He just seems so trustworthy
makes me so happy that polygon "hearted" my comment. I like to picture someone reading it and yelling "hey pat, look at this" and then pat just goes :/
The right way to handle Pat XD
Pour one out for Pat trying to out-RP Matt and, at times, succeeding.
Damn that was impressive as heck.
do you have a minute to talk about our personal lord and savior burger chainz?
I cant even spell GED was the moment he beat Matt at RP-ing
Pat needs to guest on Critical Row now.

pat making his character a stoner for absolutely no reason was the highlight of my day

"No reason" you've clearly never worked in a supermarket.
I love how in the early rounds Pat was accused of being to general and quippy so he then devotes the rest of the game to making STRONG character choices
Like the Avengers: Infinity War of board game players.

That Coup episode is still the best one. So much drama!
My internet media landscape is slowly converging into a weird Polygon/DnD/Boardgaming singularity and I blame BDG.

Rossel - Dont forget that asshole Brennan. I’ve got an appointment with him in a Denny’s parking lot.
brian's theatre kid past makes him too powerful at hidden role games because he can improv his way out of anything
It's too bad Matt was never the spy. I really wanted to see how he'd avoid suspicion.
i love watching hidden role games because then i, in all my weird little homestuck kinnie theatre kid glory, get to spend ages imagining my own really specific strategies that i'd never *actually* use. the one for this specific game was "just talk about, like, the personal struggles of the working class instead of my actual job until i know enough about the scenario to build up a really specific case against another player and due to my lovely monologue nobody will suspect i'm the spy, they'll just think i'm way too into improv", if you were wondering
30:08 if Pat had been the spy this would have been the FUNNIEST play in the history of Overboard

Weirdly enough I learned about him months after watching this I thought he was just some dude

Pat making his character high immediately got rid of any suspicion I knew exactly what he was doing
“overboard”? did you mean “living vicariously through parasocial relationships because all of my friends are too busy to play games with me”?
Moooood!
All my friends refuse to play board games with me because I get way too into role playing every game, so I'm just tryna live in a world where other friends are down for that level of competitiveness and whimsy
Mood! They only like quiplash, and quiplash is fun and all but it's not as fun as fibbage!!!!
Or cuz none of your friends even like playing board or card games 😩
Okay this one hurt a little-
One step closer to BDG as guest star in CR. ONE STEP CLOSER.

The dream!
how many nuns do I have to punch for this to happen?
Pat is always the most suspicious person and the least suspicious person at the same time.
He's the most suspicious specifically because of how naturally disarming and unsuspicious he is
Why isnt Brian in his gaming space? I demand an answer this very worrying question!
Seems like you didn't watch that video to the end.
Shortly, milk.
Hot
He's clearly in a different room. Based on where his greenscreen was in the latest Unraveled, I think he's moved.
Shevko More milk As In WhAt
He is in his gaming space, that background is clearly green screened in.
I realized Jenna thought the supermarket was the nightclub when she mistook Pat's weird high flirting as par for the course in the location they were in ("meet me out back") instead of just weird high Pat cashier perving
At that point I fully thought she was middle management at the market and was just very chill about giving Pat some drugs.
And taking that into context, I was a 100% convinced that she was the spy when she asked Brian if he thought that he would get a big break in this place. Which was so far from a supermarket that it probably wouldn't even come to you as a question to throw off the traitor.
i had no idea what locations they had to choose from but i 1000000% thought they were both talking about drugs
@@grakee9040 especially because the name Pat used was Crystal, i think Jenna was deffo reading it as a meth thing - which totally reads as a nightclub
I thought she had taken Crystal to be the name of one of the entertainers, and as manager, was going to have him meet her in her office to reprimand him for trying to hit on the dancers.
"Hello and welcome to Overboard, where a bunch of us nerdy-ass games journalists sit around and play various board games." "WE PLAY VARIOUS BOARD GAMES!!!"

Now I need Travis to guest too

I laughed so hard when I saw that Simone was the Captured Prisoner AGAIN
Like I was dying from how Brian won, and then they put up the roles AND SIMONE WAS A FUCKING PRISONER. THIS LITERALLY FINISHED ME
watching a hidden role game on overboard is just suspecting both pat and jenna simultaneously every single round
Pat’s confusion and Jenna’s general... suspicious capability make them both prime suspects.
Matt: Brennan warned me about the chaos
Jenna: Did he warn you about the FRIENDSHIP?
simone getting a prisoner role two rounds in a row is very choice
90% of everything Pat says is hilarious and smart. The other 10% is pure, unfiltered himbo.
and god we love him for it
Himb-o
everyone's talking about pat's stoner cashier's half-closed eyes, but can we take a few moments to appreciate him trying and failing to put his glasses on at LEAST three times during the brief cut at 32:30? absolutely killed me on sight

11:20 there was no possible funnier phrasing for this. we've reached peak comedy and it is "something that's hard in all the right places"
and then he tops that at 40:31 with "tell ya what, I can't even spell G.E.D."
Wrong, we've reached 29 minutes before peak comedy. 40:24 Jenna even acknowledged it as Overboard's #1 goof, and that's high praise!
Brian may have won in Points, and Matt won in clever hidden puns, but Pat absolutely _killed_ it in goofs.
The baffling part is that he was the bishop, and unless I'm misunderstanding how bishops dress, not a lot of hardness there...
Polygon: This game is really difficult, lol
Matt, who literally pretend's he's different characters / pretends to know what he's doing for a living: Ah. yes. difficult.
And he somehow got a menial worker every time.
"I can't even spell GED" would have been such a power play if he was the spy.
pat repeatedly forgetting it's his turn to ask a question after his fantastic monologues is a++
at 17:05 pat (the actor) tells an anecdote about how he was working in a coffee shop and "Craig" came and said "that´s it". later brian (the director) calls himself Craig, I love this

"Patrick."
"Aye... [Pause] The location is Ireland."

simone's first question of the first two rounds being "please let me go" and her not being the spy is such an accidental power move
"hey pat, what kind of outfit are you wearing?"

The sheer ENERGY in the single word “coffee” is enough to kill a man
Edit (Mostly for personal reference): Brian’s bit starts at 17:36
Thank you, I am here for Brian's director persona.
Patrick, just showing off for Mathew to get in Critical Role.
Pat's idea of roleplay: Long, detailed storytelling
Brian's idea of roleplay: Simone, can I get a fucking COFFEE?!?
My first suspicion on Jenna was when Pat asked if Crystal was on tonight. I could almost picture her mind wandering towards nightclub when she gave the answer.
HOW could anyone suspect Simone in the Service Station round when she said "I know" after Pat said "I'm from Maine" SHE READ IT ON THE CAR PLATE that was so smart
Because Pat is from Maine.

pat gill is a comedic genius. what a guy, holy shit.
I have to choose to award this comment as all but entirely righteous with regard to the dogma of my closed world. I rarely agree with something in every nature, but Pat is the image of proper humanity, as is Simone. I must now leave you with the torch.
First matt wore BDG's E3 T-shirt, now he's on an actual polygon vid. Wow.
It was so delightful to be in the know when the CR chat was all like “What does Matt’s shirt say?!?!”
@@danielle3798 that shitt actually brought me to polygon :D but seeing twitch chat go "does matt know what his shirt says?" was amusing even without context

Lily Hope it was in episode 102 of Critical Role. You can see the shirt really well around the 15 minute mark of the youtube video when he’s standing up asking for everyone’s initiative rolls.
Nobody, nobody at all:

Matt Mercer AND Polygon?! Dream come true!
seeing brian and simone having the exact same reactions at 4:40 to pat's cursed answer is sending me
Holy shit I can't unsee it
I loved seeing how everyone got more and more into the roleplay lmao
Patrick's actor monologue was so good. Maybe that entire round haha.
"The tension is thick, palpable, [and] slightly salted."
You sure that's tension you got there, Matt?
That sounds like, dare I say, Wario's viscous sweat?
Jenna's hubris causing her downfall was legendary
As an Aussie I was increasingly convinced everyone was the Spy for "Service Station" until I realised that means something different in the US - servos down here don't involve mechanics, it's just about fuel
Same here, and when they started revealing the roles I was like "what service station has a receptionist??"
Am American, have never referred to a tire change / mechanical place as a service station in my life. Definitely assumed it was a gas station.
@@adammfontenot same! I have never heard it called that, ever
me too, i really didn’t trust anyone! with ordering stock and stuff the only thing i could think of was double-price chips/chocolate bars/etc ahaha
Yeah, I'm from Texas, and we don't call ANYTHING a "service station" here. You go to a gas station for fuel and snacks and maybe a car wash and a coin-operated tire inflation machine, and for anything mechanical, you take it to your dealership's service department, or an oil change place, or a body shop. Many of those places also do inspections, which in Texas you need to have done every year I think, or maybe two years.
30:11 Patrick: Hi(gh). Welcome to Overdose.
It's a sin that Matt Mercer was on this show and was never spy
Jeremy Tewari aw spoilers. I KNEW I shouldn’t have scrolled down, I blame myself.
Jenna: “I am the spy”

With Critical Role taking today off, I'm glad to have my weekly Mercer fix.
I didn't even see that Matt was in this when I clicked on the notification. My worlds collide. My heart cant handle this.

18:20 nobody’s talking about how raw of a line this is.
Once the movie studio one started, I could not tell who the spy was when everyone was doing fantastic. I am clueless as to who it is.
Just finished movie studio, HOW?!?!?!?!? Jenna?!?!?!?
This just makes me want my ultra Dimension 20 crossover more with players having BDG, Pat, Matt Mercer, and Prozd. Pat especially is just so fun to watch roleplay.
if I may make a suggestion: the mcelroys are there as well
Best question to ask in this game: "How many people have you killed today?"
26:37 The entire Polygon community: Good question, Brian! *We have no satisfying answer!*
god this is the only thing that gives me serotonin
Can we have a "Best of Overboard" weeklong event where you guys play some of the most fun games again? Some of these are so much fun and Have to be seen again! Maybe for a 24th episode/2nd anniversary special?
I tried playing this game with my housemates and it was a disaster. I suppose I should have learned after One Night Werewolf and A Fake Artist that the folks I live with aren't really hidden role type people.
Maybe I should spend my money on some other games but I'm too invested at this point. I will get them to understand subterfuge, I swear it.

I’ve tried watching Critical Role and I have a hard time staying interested in it but every time Matt Mercer shows up in something else he’s so incredibly good.
