This would put the oldest daughter in the background,now the youngest is appearing in public more regularly,but the oldest has appeared in public before when Kim was ill supposedly,a few years ago,but in a Dictatorship it can be hard to know if the younger daughter will be the next leader. She being in public more often could be a sign,but in NK it's really hard to know.🇰🇵🚜

The law is totally skewed towards women in the US and it'll be one of very few places where the system favors them. On the other hand, that luxury doesn't exist culturally in many places especially North Korea so his wife and children are going nowhere.

I think the analysis is correct. Kim is trying to portray himself as a family man, a 'softer' leader in contrast to his father and grandfather. I mean it's a bit early for him to be presenting a successor.
He could be training a successor. Historically, military dictators benefit a lot from being trained from childhood. However, this also turns into a threat to their father. So choosing a female successor is a smart move on Kim's part - he can look like a dolting father, while giving the best training he could for a successor that's unlikely to be able to usurp him.
He has to act softer ofcourse the world is changing and people do smuggle foreign goods or video showing how peaceful life is outside while they r living in isolation makes them question and possible revolution as well so kim is trying to soften tht image

This is actually a very good analysis, most observers think this is him presenting his successor, when in fact he is trying to craft an image of the “family man”, he and his sister are playing good cop bad cop, his sister is the one that’s radical, with the strong rhetoric, while Kim Jong un presents himself as a new softer leader, more in touch with the common people, a father.

Whether or not he's crafting is one thing,but one thing for sure kids are a bit more honest and transparent,and judging by their body language and hers,unless she was a gifted child actor like the boy from a.i. and sixth sense....it is impossible for people especially children to feign that kind of body language if they truly weren't close to their parents...I have never seen someone act that natural and open with someone unless they were extremely close and psychologically intimate with each other.....

Potential successor. It's too early to tell if that 9 year old has what it takes to be a dictator, or even loyal enough to him. Doesn't mean she doesn't have what it takes, it's just too early to tell. She's a freaking 9 years old! Most people in his shoes will want to have multiple potential successors for obvious insurance reason. Then test them over some period of time before choosing the "best" one as heir apparent.

In contrary to his heartless sister, father and grandfather, Un is a bit more egalitarian, the video 'A Dictator's Dilemma' does a good job explaining why Un does what he does, and why. Giving the people more freedom would mean regime change and putting his entire family at risk (what would you do?) at least according to recent defectors food got much more varied, even this rotten fish sauce that was a MUST eat is now just something that is used for taste, per example. He also recently announced to overhaul farming and agriculture and once shed some tears when the nation was suffering due to flooding (though it could have been theater play).

Actually there is a theory that people who love their families(or any inner circle they belong to) more are harshier to outsiders than people who don't. Which makes sense when you think about it, since people who love their families would be eager to provide more which means they are not reluctant to steal resources from outsiders. Historically, numerous ruthless rulers happened to be sweet partners and parents to their closed ones. Ironically, their extensive love for their closed ones became fuel to cruelness behaviors to non-closed ones.

I find it hard to believe he wouldn't carry on tradition and make his son the new supreme commander. I think it is interesting but, unless he had no son (which he does), I cannot see DPRK breaking with the male domination of the society and him installing his daughter.
