I remember as a little kid, the town I used to live in Nebraska used a 3T22 siren for their 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock sirens, tornado warnings and for their fire calls using hi/lo. I remember when the fire siren was used, i loved listening to the hi/lo...a melodic tone. To this day, the town's siren is still used but I'm not sure if the fire siren is still used or the local fire/rescue department strictly relies on the pager system. I always enjoy watching UA-cam videos learning about old sirens and how they work. My favorite definitely is the 3T22 siren. This video was very informative, I learned a lot about these sirens after watching it. To whoever posted this video... awesome!!!!
@AKSoapy29 If you're talking about the DPDT relay above the flasher, that's for the AF Timer. The other motor starter (on the left) is for the siren motor itself.
@MrSciencetificsasuke No problem man! Hey, check out "Federal Signal 3T22 Tornado Siren--RC6A panel slightly more in-depth..." I made a slight correction of something I said about the flasher here...plus you get a better look at the control panel!
JProductions hey I know someone who lives in hot springs You guys have a system of 2001 sirens Behind the town hall their is a 3t22 a darley "helmet" siren and a 2001
Wait so the high-low sound on a tornado siren is the sound of the air flow changing? I think I'm very wrong, if I am please correct me, I'd like to learn!
When you cut airflow to one of the choppers with an electric damper, that chopper doesn’t make sound. Thunderbolt 1003’s and 3T22’s used a damper system to block airflow when actuated. The different amount of ports is what makes that particular tone. A Thunderbolt 1003 is a 5/6 port and a 3T22 is a 10/12 port. The higher the number, the higher the frequency.

the 3t22 uses the same selinoids (sorry if i misspelled that) as a thunderbolt 1003!
Cool to see that I now own this siren :)
Does the top damper create the hi of the hi/lo tone?

Yep they sure do! It's spelled "solenoids" fyi, lol.
Thanks for the comment :)
Ok, so this would work with the 3T22, buy not the ThunderBolt? Is there a special flasher for the thunderbolt 1003?
What is the fernas relay for in this panel? By the way, nice explanation :) Now I know a little more about them :D
We have a siren EXACTLY like this one in Hot Springs South Dakota! It was replaced by another siren that I forget the name of, but it spins
