🧩 Happy Autism Awareness Day 🧩

🧩 April 2nd is recognized as Autism Awareness Day, To celebrate, I decided to have my son join in on some sponge squeezing sensory play! This is a day to raise awareness and promote acceptance of individuals on the autism spectrum.
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. It is a spectrum disorder, meaning that it affects each individual differently.
Sensory play can be a helpful tool for children with autism. Sensory play involves engaging the senses, such as touch, sight, sound, and smell, to explore and learn about the world. This type of play can help children with autism develop sensory processing skills and improve their ability to regulate sensory input.
Sensory play activities can include playing with different textures, such as sand, water, or playdough, exploring different smells, playing with musical instruments or listening to music, and engaging with different visual stimuli, such as colorful lights or bright colors.
For children with autism, sensory play can be particularly beneficial in helping them to manage their sensory needs, reduce anxiety, and improve their overall well-being. Sensory play can also help children with autism to develop social skills, as they engage in play with others and learn to communicate their emotions and needs.
