Mark takes ugly, cheap, nearly discarded dolls and turns them into fabulous ART DOLLS that are destined to become collector items! I especially love that the faces have a Fornasetti vibe! Mark, you always manage to get our creative cogs crankin!
A local thrift store sells bags of dolls for a couple dollars. I can only imagine the raised eyebrows of having a box labeled "body parts" lol. Love it 👍👍
Hay I don’t know that you needed to admit that you don’t do armature so well. It’s walking on the wild side taking apart a doll and dressing it the way you want then putting it back together again. Thank you for opening the door to what is an adventure I wouldn’t have other wise thought of. You do that so well, taking us on a tour of our imagination💙
Kate! I have my limitations for sure and I don't mind sharing them but THANK YOU for being so supportive! This doll is certainly an adventure...I had a blast making them even though people are on the fence about them. Much like clowns! :)
Being a Barbie fan (we were born the same year!) whenever I go to a dollar store and see these dolls I keep wondering what could Craft with them. What a great idea!. Thank you❣️😘
Another great video! I love the sticker machine and the stain glass wings are beautiful! I’m thinking I can make some garden fairies or angels and just weatherproof them. Thanks for continuing to spark creativity 💜💜💜
Mark, this just hits all kinds of Wonderful creative spots in my brain. I'm with you in that I think these art dolls are amazing yet creepy. I'm going to have to give these a try. Oh the different themes I can think of to create art dolls. And as you say use what you have and I have lots of book pages, newly-acquired gel press and heavy body paints, as well as scrap Fabrics and Mod Podge. These look so fun to make.
I love this project! I think these dolls would be great as gifts and the customization is endless. I’m a fan of the Gene Marshall doll that came out in the 1990’s. I have one doll and I frequently buy outfits for her on eBay and other places. These clothes have such historic detail (Golden Age of Hollywood) and they are SO well made. My doll has a better wardrobe than I do!
Some people were so freaked out by these but I really loved making them! I thought they looked so cool hanging out on my art shelf! *Follow me on Instagram if you're there, too! I'm here: instagram.com/themarkmontano/reels/
Very Doll-licious! Love love love this idea! So unique! Adding the wire and buttons were such a great addition, I don't think I wudda thought of that, but I wouldn't have thought of making these dolls either! I'm going to now tho! Thanks Mark!

Thanks Ruby! I always see these dolls and wonder what can be done with them and then I found a doll making book at one of those free neighborhood libraries and was totally inspired. It's really fun once you get started!
Well Mark, I have to admit, I was a little freaked out about ripping off limbs! And the cutting off of the nose, I was closing my eyes! They turned out so cute in the end! Great job! Have a good week!
LoL...Mark...when you said you aren't that kind of guy that has dolls laying around...it reminded me of a man that I see often while delivering hospice meds. He wears a regular cap but has "half a Barbie" shoved into the hatband. LoL He tells me this way he's never without a date. 😂🤣😂 Thank you again for another awesome idea and video!!
I love mixed media projects and this fits the bill perfectly, thank you so much for your endless inspiration , Guess what i am making this afternoon :) ha, LOVE IT !

So glad Amy! I kept seeing these huge 99c store barbies and thinking they could be made even more creepy than they already were! Plus, this was just fun to do!
Good Morning Mark, I love this idea! So creative and colorful. Wish I had the gel press and xyron station when I was in Art School! A very long time ago! LOL
Good morning Laura! So many things would have made art school better, right? Like a printer instead of Letraset letters that you had to rub on...remember those?
Glad you think so Robin! I like making art dolls with interesting things...They do creep people out, though! BTW, join me on Instagram if you're there, too! instagram.com/themarkmontano/

As a doll maker, it never occurred to me that I could do this! Thanks for the great inspiration, as always. Also, I think I may have been one of the illustrators for your Window Treatments and Slipcovers for Dummies book. I can't remember for sure, but I was one of a small staff of illustrators who did all the art for those books at that time.
Wow! That's very possible...That book almost killed me. Those Dummies books are no joke! Honestly, I had more fun making these dolls than almost any other doll project I've done. Thanks for reaching out M. J. !

What a brilliant idea to use an old doll. Sure cuts down on time! Love these dolls. Thanks, Mark. Another interesting project for us to try.
Definitely cuts down the time of making an armature / base. Plus, I'm not the best at it so this is super helpful for getting a good shape.
I have a bag of broken doll parts perfect for this project AND I finally got a Xyron machine. I'm so ready for this!
