From a business standpoint I think this is very wise and being the rest of the family agreeable that is even better. I am sure with your Dad at the nucleus of your group, it will prove to be very profitable and become a family foundation for the future.
As the world turns. I don't know what will evolve from this. I don't have enough info. I am all eyes and ears. Enjoy your winter break as it appears you have in the past. It makes good vid. Pax.
It sounds exciting! And as you said now you're done at school you'll be here full time to get fully involved day to day throughout the year. Have fun on your snowmobiling trip!
Hi Carson! Good luck to all of you with your splitting up the farm, hope all goes well for all of you. Have a great snowmobile trip, be safe and have a great time, hope you can catch some video for us!
I believe you will be better off. Not saying anything bad about family, I've been there done that got a t-shirt. Good luck men praying it works out like you want.
An exciting new beginning! The split actually takes 1 generational family farm & makes 2. We NEED more family farms. Your dad’s building the business for sons, I totally get that.
Very interesting news! It feels like when a (family) tree grows new branches. I hope it works out well for you guys. It can make a lot of sense as the generations multiply, and everyone needs their room to grow. Time for me to catch up on a bunch I missed! Happy New Year to you Carson and to your family! Oh, since you are home full time now, you must have finished your last class or so in the fall semester. congratulations!
My brother and ran our dairy farm together for forty years and we readily admit that we had some disagreements. Like wise sometimes our best business decisions were made when we realized that neither of us had the solution to the the problem. Communication is the key word!
I know a couple of brother partners that have split with kids involved after a couple of years they say it was the best decision they ever made . Hope all goes well for both sides .
Probably a wise move, eight partners sounds like a bit much, to try to make quick decisions when needed. I am also sure if one group needs some help, the other group will help. So you're on your own, but not really.
Parting ways without acrimony is a great way to do it. Having a legally binding agreement that takes separation in to account is worth whatever it costs. I've seen the other side first hand, and I admire those who can divide and continue sharing a Holiday meal together.
will this overall reduce the acres you farm? will this make it easier for you to do more organic? do you think it will improve your profitability? hope to hear from ya
Did you have to divide the land up to or was that all rented? Seems like a lot of challenges taking off without all the partners. Can't wait to see what the future brings for you guys.
@@6thGenFarmer this is very interesting. Thanks for sharing this story with us because it could help other Generations in the future. Have a great afternoon
Congratulations to you all. Will be very challenging for sure. Financially it makes sense. Too many chiefs & not enough indians make it hard to run. A business and a farm is very much a business. Best wishes for a prosperous year.
Too many cooks will add too much salt to the soup, so this may be wise. And as long the Split treads everybody fair, the Farms will help each others when manure hits the Fan. And i´ll be sure the 5th Generation will be wise enough to give the 6th Generation enough room for their Ideas, but tell em when its Bullmanure.
I got the impression that of the 8? Or so partners, some are retired or non- contributing from a labor of love perspective. Will that mean less acres worked by your group❓Your Dad likes organic farming. More importantly, will you have access to ALL of the current power units & implements.❓Trucks, trailers, bin storage. ❓Sounds like a NO, but At least, that which you need to farm properly, Lastly, none of this is any of my business, nor any viewer. I will state, your Dad is still a young man from a productivity standpoint, & 4 folks pulling together should make the wheels turn easily. Now let's get the excavator repaired. 💯🗽🇺🇸🚜 Can tell you sharing a shop & tools w/ other family is NOT always a harmonious experience. ♨🚽.
Yes some of the 8 are not contributing from a labor standpoint. We hope to expand the organic in the future (100% of the organic is ours) and the excavator will hopefully be done when I get back from my trip!
Good luck with new adventure
Wishing you the best of Hedalth, Happiness & Success in 2023 and in the newly revised organization. / operation of the farm
Look forward to seeing what the future holds!
Fully understand and your Dad is right, it is best to do this now while everybody is living, i hope everything works out.
Good Luck to you all

Southwest Minnesota can you say where at
Always have to make change for a new future. I wish you and your family all the best in 2023 and everyone involved is successful.
It is probably making the most sense financially and legally as to the corporations and llc’s.
Right on!

good luck what been in the future
Farming has to be a business first. Sometimes families have to make business decisions. Good luck.

Acres are roughly cut in half. Would like to expand organic eventually but at the moment we are leaving it

Land was difficult. We got it split pretty fairly though.

I hear ya on sharing a shop. as far as tools - lets say I should have bought shares in a cabinet and lock company.
your Dad doesn’t really look that happy about it
He is and isn’t. I mean he has been farming with his brother for 45 years so it’s hard for him.
@@6thGenFarmer I completely understand I wish the best for everyone
