A 36" rifle just fits, so you'll have to jump up the 42" case like my big one. The .223 has an 18" barrel, and as shown is 35.5" long since collapsible stocks are verboten here if you want to keep a detachable mag (Führer Cuomo's unSAFE Act) . The ones with 16" barrels fit in the 36" bag.at 34". The shotgun is shy of 39", so it won't fit in the 36" case. My whole family has changed over to these bags.

I'm in NY. The gun laws here are just as bad, if not worse in many ways than CA. Yes, featureless, so I use Thordsen Gen III stocks. This rifle has an 18" barrel, and will just fit in the 36" case, so this 42" case is bigger than I need, but still works fine.
I've removed 1 section (1/2") of the Thordsen Gen III stock on my .223 since I made this video. It now measures 35.25", and just fits in the 36" case. I'd say it would be a tight fit. The 46" would give a bit of wiggle room. I store that one in my 42" case with a H&R Pardner Pump Protector (39").
I have an M&P 15 Sport 2 that has an overall length of 35 in. Would it fit right in a 36 in. bag? I've been needing a bag for a while and I'm eyeing this one but I'm not sure if I should get this size or 42 in.
It sure will. My 36" long rifle just fits, though I keep it the 42" version of this bag. It has more than enough room. I bought this one for my 34" long rifles.

What are the length of your rifles I’m building an ar15 with 16 inch barrel would it fit in the 36” bag you think?
My .223 is 18", and my other rifles are 16". The .223 will fit in the 36" bag, but it's snug with the Thordsen stock.
Are you in CA? Your rifles look featureless with that grip/stock. I'm also looking at this bag. Nice video too

You could go with a smaller case if you have a collapsible stock. The double rifle cases are available in 24", 28", 32", 36", 42", 46", 51", and 55".
