I just have to try and remind people that those thugs are 1% of the fans over here. We were equally annoyed with the people who boo'd other countries anthems etc, and no I don't think Italy won due to luck, penalties can come down to luck for sure but there's no hiding from the fact that England fell asleep on the second half and there was some questionable decisions from the manager. I do think Italy should have been automatically qualified after winning the Euros, and although I was happy for the Macedonians (I'm sure it felt great for them) I was sad for Italy. Like I said no top tier team should be knocked out like that and the WC will be less competitive now because of it. Perhaps the process will be looked into after this and improve the sport like the England vs Germany WC (2010) disallowed goal did for VAR.

I am Italian and this defeat causes me a lot of pain also because I am Sicilian and it happened in Palermo. We Italians had great footballers for 30 years between 1966 and 1996 because after Italy had lost against North Korea in the 1966 World Cup, the Italian Federation decided that only Italians had to play in Serie A and for 15 years until 1981 it was so and from 1981 to 1996 a maximum of three foreigners per italian club could play and this led to the birth of many Italian champions and to a golden period for Italian football during which we won 2 world cups, 2 Euro cups and we have been twice vice-world champions and twice vice eurochampions and in the 90s and 80s the Italian club teams dominated the European cups. Today in the Italian teams only 25% of Italian players play and therefore it is much more difficult that Italian players can have a lot of experience from a young age because for example Maldini started to play at the age of 15 in Milan in Serie A. Even if I am sad because Italy will not go to the Qatar World Cup at least we won the 2020 Euro cup in London against England so dear English friends, before you can make fun of Italy you have to win the World Cup in Italy in the final against Italy ...

A lot of us feel sorry for Italy actually, football can be so unpredictable, no team on a top level should be knocked out like this. Feel free to cling on to that grudge of yours though.

Here in Italy to say to a person that "you are English" means to pay him a compliment because he is a polite person, of good manners, sporty, who knows how to recognize the merit of the opponents when they win. That's why we were all surprised here in Italy by the unpleasant behavior of the English supporters against the Italians because in addition to whistling the italian anthem they said that Italy won the European Cup only by luck. You can win a single match for luck, not an entire tournament. Italy faced Turkey Switzerland and Wales in the qualifying group and won brilliantly, then we won our toughest match against Austria and we brilliantly beat Belgium who were first in the FIFA rankings and then we won two games on penalties against Spain and England and at Wembley Italy dominated the whole game and the whole world said that Italy deserved to win. As said in my previous message Italy had a golden period of great players but for 24 years from 1982 to 2006 we did not win anything so I think it is better to win a Eurocup and then not go to the World Cup rather than play for 56 years and not winning anything as unfortunately is happening to England which has not won since 1966. Sacchi said that England can win at the World Cup in Qatar because English players usually arrive exhausted in June-July because they play too many games and therefore they don t win neither European nor World Cup while this time the World Cup is played in winter and therefore the English players will have more athletic freshness than in other competitions. @@kalosdemoversion Thank you a lot for clarifying, I know when it comes to football some fans really make us hated around the world. I just have to try and remind people that those thugs are 1% of the fans over here. We were equally annoyed with the people who boo'd other countries anthems etc, and no I don't think Italy won due to luck, penalties can come down to luck for sure but there's no hiding from the fact that England fell asleep on the second half and there was some questionable decisions from the manager. I do think Italy should have been automatically qualified after winning the Euros, and although I was happy for the Macedonians (I'm sure it felt great for them) I was sad for Italy. Like I said no top tier team should be knocked out like that and the WC will be less competitive now because of it. Perhaps the process will be looked into after this and improve the sport like the England vs Germany WC (2010) disallowed goal did for VAR.

I'am so HAPPY that no even one commentator didnt use that shit*y accessory word "north" to our original name MACEDONIA. Northern Macedonia (Republic of Macedonia-ORIGINAL) is a forcefully added adjective from NATO as a condition for NATO membership, although in a referendum the people said that they do not want NATO or a change of the name of the country (the referendum was not successful) and against the will of the people they changed the name from the Republic of Macedonia to Northern Macedonia and they put us in NATO by force.
