He was the father of modern day goalkeeping. No Yashin: no Zoff, no Maier, no Shilton, no Schmeichel snr, no Khan, no Buffon, no Neuer. A brilliant goalkeeping mind who I think would be the world's best goalkeeper even today. The GOAT of goalies.
Besides superb reaction and ball-catching abilities, he really was the one who introduced the concept of a goalkeeper "not just being a third goalpost" but actively playing throughout the entire box and even beyond, which is a must for any goalee nowadays! Thank you so much for your video!
"Lev Yashin was first-class, a real super goalkeeper. His positional play was excellent, but everything he did was amazing. He was a model for goalkeeping for the next years, without a doubt" (Gordon Banks about Lev Yashin)
Those one hand saves and reflex dives are still World class even by today's standards, with much more training and technology available. His reaction times on some of the reflex saves are unbelievable. Obviously some of the technique has evolved a bit since those days, in part due to the availability of padded gloves and leggings which allow keepers to dive laterally instead of forward into the ball. What a star!
Lev Yeshin was the forgotten goalkeeper that would kick any other GK's ass
for this time he was great, the best. But nowadays the shots are harder and more precise, so ter Stegen, Neuer and Oblak are better.
lessandra I don’t think so. Yeshin goalkeeping ethics would not be able to be matched with today’s goalkeepers.

When i first heard of Lev, 5ish years back, as a goalkeeper myself i was amazed. For the time, for the standard, and for the hardended players he faced.. Hes the best thats ever lived. Innovater, winner, and his highlights are only whats been filmed and they are of better standard than modern goalkeeper top 10's
I'll never forget the icon card of him which had him wearing his classic flat cap in fifa

Great job, thanks for sharing this GEM of a keeper. Goalkeepers don't always get the recognition that they deserve.
It's crazy how literally most of the greatest people ever had a tough life. It's even more crazy that probably most of us have had tough moments in our lives too, but maybe we chose to quit and that's what made them great and us normal people. Stay motivated and confident in your own abilitys.

Yeah. 7 goals in USSR top league which was not professional at that time. No international matches. Lev Yashin never played for UEFA Champions Cup. For USSR National tea Lev Yashin conceded 70 goals in 74 games. Very average result for that time

Hurts a bid that Neuer wasnt even mentioned... would really like a vid about him since he changed the way a goalkeeper plays in a similiar way like yashin did. Maybe not as much on a technicall but a tacticall lvl.
Video was awesome though.
The way you see Neuer play is basicly like Campos did and other GK before him. Yashin basicly invented the modern Gk.
Exactly!
Herr Müller Lügenscheid hurts a bit that gordon banks doesn’t have an icon card

Lev Yashin was not only best goalkeeper ever, he was also a true gentleman. A real sportsman. Full of decorum. Even when his team lost, he went round shaking hands with all officials and those from the winning team.
yashin Is a Beast Goalkeeper
For me at age 66 and having seen some great goal keepers during my days, there are three that really stick out: Gordon Banks, Lev Yashin and Rinat Dasaev. There were other greats like Ladislao Mazurchievicz , Amadeo Carrizo, Oliver Kahn, Seep Maier, etc.
Very good choice. Mazurkiewicz is nearly forgotten but in my opinion one of the best goalkeepers. But don't forget Ronny Hellström
The Russians had some solid goalies, but Lev 'the Black Spider/Panther' Yashin was something else - long ago, a grand-uncle who had the good fortune to watch LY, said, "Spectacular goalkeeper. It wasn't his acrobatics, LY's strength was fearlessness: his ability to go for the ball even though he risked a kick in ribs or even the face!"

Lav introduced modern way of goal keeping . further more in era when goal scoring was simple and often he was almost unbeatable on goal post. in todays standards i dont think people can even imagine how good he was. try to put 5 top goal keepers in one individual and you get Lav Yashin.. if your lucky :)
