I think I first went to Manchester to protest Section 28 in Albert Square. Me & my partner love Oscar's Bar - and occasionally drink it dry of Campari! Cruz101 is such a fun place and I like the wood-paneled Via as my goto pub. Also, good beer in the Molly House. Use 'em or lose 'em folks ! I donate to the AKT - a shame that this is still needed. 😞 [subscribed for the urban/country folklore! 🙂]
Thanks for the message ( and the sub 😉). You're quite right, these places will go if not used, but at least these ones are often quite bust still. Shout if you spot me around 🙂. Thanks again
Canal Street is one of the most chilled places you could visit in Manchester. It's so relaxed there. Oh, and by the way. I'm not gay. Everyone is made to feel welcome!
@@matparks08 that’s true, just been remembering some iconic people who were around at that time, there was one quite notorious club the other side of Piccadilly called Dickens, it was one on its own, even mentioned in a song by Morrisey
My favourite Canal St Venue is Via Fossa, as it reminds me of The George gay bar in Dublin - GAY resembles both the Front Lounge and PantiBar in Dublin - I’d love to see Miss Panti Bliss, Shirley Temple Bar and Veda Beaux Reves doing a show here in Manchester so that we get to see the finest examples of Irish drag
11:26 I know of one openly gay (and very handsome) Manchester GMP policeman from a few years ago - he used to come into our shop in the city centre and all the girls fancied him like mad, because he was 6 foot, blond and very muscular/well built ❤❤❤❤
Use live in Manchester for 27 years but sad going to back my hometown for good 3 year ago.....most often went gay village most fantastic and great good times ....going getting old man now no longer any more go to village lol x
It's all to gay and fluffy I remember the dark seedy top end class of 81 trolling in the dark, and then in the 90s being a leather Ethel in the Rem going to rockies for more SIN... I don't miss it now an oagay with my allotment they never had that on queer as folk.
These days, Manchester’s gay village has become very unsafe since about 10 years ago - the ONLY thing that would make the area safer is routinely and visibly armed GMP officers and military patrolling around the area to keep order, including late at night

I lost many a night and day in Danceteria back in the mid nineties, when it was at Thompson and before that when it was by the old Rockies.
Good times indeed 😊. Thanks for watching

Yep, I agree with you. I love the place 😁
Remember going to the Union back in the 80s, it was a proper rough pub, some characters in there, good times 💃
Definitely good times. Those characters from pubs gone by deserve a video of their own 🙂

I've been lucky and not experienced anything worse there than any other street, but I do know some bad things have happened over the years.
Batman and Superman kissing is old news as everyone knows they are a couple 😂 ❤❤❤❤❤
