      Not bad, I like the idea of the panko and the paprika etc, I would totally eat this recipe (As someone who has been having my mum's homemade scotch eggs for many years) I'd also like to add a suggestion to make it a bit more fancy pants. Instead of the sausage and green onion, use black pudding (or blood sausage as I think it is known in the U.S.) I've had that before and it is outstanding! Way to go Kent, love the channel.

    Hi Kent, Shannon, Beagle
    The key to making hard boiled eggs easy to peel is using eggs that are at least 2 weeks old. A fresh egg will give you fits when you try peeling it. I put my eggs in a pan of cold water, put the pan on the stove, turn it on, let it come to a boil, boil 5 minutes, cover the pan, turn off the stove, and just let them set until you can handle the eggs. Take the egg, tap it on your counter, and roll it gently, one time, under the palm of your hand until the whole egg shell cracks. If you do this the whole shell will usually come off in 1 or 2 pieces. Just my way, but It's worked for 60 years.:~))))
    God bless, and keep Ole' Glory wavin'
    Stoney

    • @recless8667
      @recless8667 5 років тому

      Age of the eggs is everything, I agree. I go for about 1 month of fridge time after I get them, so probably around 6 weeks old. I usually do hard boiled because commercial growers and all that, but the shells fall right off. Forget the salting or any other of the tricks, just use your fresh ones for pan frying and save a few old ones when you go out to buy the next batch so you have something to boil.

      Wish I could say I was one. But my mom is an okie. She grew up around Lawton and medicine park. She married a dang Yankee had 4 baby girls and was half way forgiven by her okie family😬😂 (we're in the northeast) whenever she calls home the accent returns thick!!!! I'm her youngest and im nearly 50! One day the dream is to live out there. I remember visiting my moms mom..my grandmoms farm out there for family reunions. Lol. I didn't know tarantulas just roamed free in Oklahoma🤦 scared me senseless.. But she always made a big breakfast and gave me my very first taste of sausage gravy n biscuits. If it helps, as a Yorkshire (north of England) born, Scottish raised fan... the clearest roots of the Scotch Egg I'm aware of have two distinct histories as to how they came about:
    1 - Basically rich aristocrats around the 16th/17th century wanted a way to impress their friends by taking a "peasant" or "working class" food like eggs and pork and faffing it around, or;
    2 - like Cornish Pasties, Bedfordshire Clangers, Fife Bridies and all the variations we have on local savoury pies, the Scotch Egg came about as a means for people who might have their own pigs and egg-laying chickens to have an entire meal on the go, even if kept in their pocket, so they had something calorie dense that would keep them going while they worked the field. The original coating of pastry was eventually phased out in favour of the egg and breadcrumb treatment, only because it was easier and cheaper for someone to do on a one coke/charcoal stove.
    The latter reason is why you find variations across this nation.
    In any case thanks for touching on this and for all your other cooking exploits. In wet and windy Manchester we don't really have actual cowboy cooking available, so thanks for showing how to make it,

    Kent-explain to the folks how it was the first time you had one of them "we called them tumble weeds, Armadillo eggs(same everything - just quail eggs)and even Bevo Balls". You could prob go through alot calling them Bevo balls up in Oklahoma Football country. But we been eatin them since the early 70's and i have made approx 2000 of them suckers. Got to the point i would get requests to send out the recipe everytime i served them. Do not take these to a friends or family house...you will for sure out welcome yourself as this dish will be the star to everyone including the kids. BBQ sauce, hot mustard, ranch or any dipping sauce is good for your liking. You cant go wrong with these! To make these easier on you make a station on your counter for each step of the process to streamline it. Makes it easier to produce mass. JImmy dean sausage(1/2 hot, 1/2 regular mixed) and Italian bread crumbs is good to use and easier if your going for that!!! These things remind me of my childhood!!

      @@longhairedcountryboy2363 my recipe says 400 degrees for about 35 min. Everything else recipe wise is just like Kent did. My sausage may be put on a little thicker so you may want to check things sooner than 35 min if you do a thin layer like Kent did. The key is to get the sausage cooked through and not over cook your egg.

    At EPCOT, in 1989, my girlfriend and I ducked into the British pub to get out of the rain, and it was packed. Another couple invited us to join them at their table, and they were having Scotch eggs, which I'd never heard of before. They graciously offered to share, and I was hooked from that point on, making them at home from then on. This is the first demonstration on how to make them that I've ever seen, and he's really got it down. I never thought about the horseradish in the mustard, but I'm anxious to try it.
