1:19 Yeah, well, pretend Pawmot doesn't exist. Think of it being a scenario where Gen 1 was still new, and had Gorochu existed, Pawmot would either not exist or would get a different secondary typing.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Also, you had the gall to give it the Dark type when that type didn't even exist back then. I can't with this *INCONSISTENCY,* bro.
Gall, lol. I’ve been doing this type of run since 2021 with steel types, etc. it’s just a side series. Vanilla Gen 1 is still a thing that I run along with Gen 2 and 3 but it’s just something I find interesting. If it’s not your cup of tea, that’s cool!
Mainly try to get away from similar niche/genre releases if anything. I used to do different days/times and it worked. The tiny solo run community used to have a calendar and work together but now everyone is just doing whatever.
I like how you clarified that this video isn't about trying to make it fully fit in gen 1, it is about how overpowered it could be and yet I see comments...about how it doesn't fully fit in gen 1. Oh you, UA-cam section. Interesting direction there though, going for the 'opposite' angle of Alolan Raichu type-wise.
It is a tough crowd to please sometimes lol. Some would say impossible. There are tons of Gorochu interpretations and I just wanted to do my own in my existing little series.
I am currently working on a fan rom hack where Gorochu is reworked into Mega Raichu (though I chose to keep it pure Electric instead), as well as other beta and scraped designs too. I get your philosophy and choice for giving it a secondary typing, however, and I feel it fits thematically.
At the start of the video, this is exactly how I was hoping Gorochu would be implemented at this point. Not exactly what we would want, but would be cool.
@GymLeaderMatt1987 hey dude, dark fits oni, nothing stops it from still learning a fire move either! I had to stop the video for a minute, but Gen 1 is even famous for over giving fire coverage. It's still funny to me Slowbro has fire coverage and can be a slow lol menace with it.
Hmmm I disagree with the typing as Dark type wasn't a thing in Gen 1. There's a big chance this would be the same type as before meaning Mono Electric. But if there was to be a secondary typing Ground type could make sense. The design we found for Gorochu, which we have a back sprite plus the description given feels like it's based on the Raijin, the Japanese God of Thunder. In the lore for Raijin one time he defeated an Electric Eel which caused Earthquakes (I'm not making this up), so even if the Pokémon was Mono Electric I feel it would have the move Earthquake. As for the stat spread, it does feel like a modern evolution could be like that but other than Poliwrath no other evolution in Gen 1 loses speed and it being in the God of Thunder makes me feel that would have liked to keep it's speed. With a BST around 430-450. So overall I think had it would keep the balance spread of Attack, Special, Speed and lower defenses like Raichu but with the added bonus of Earthquake it could still be a unique Pokémon. Anyway that would be my take had Gorochu been released in Gen 1. I had theory crafted this Pokémon for years and I tend to be pedantic with trying to keep things in the spirit of Gen 1 but being that this isn't a real Pokémon it's all theory craft at this point.
@@fortello7219Gorochu was designed for Gen 1. We have a leak that shows the back sprite of Gorochu. Pikachu was planned to be a 3 stage Pokémon with its evolving into Gorochu probably via Stone Evolution. Gf said they removed it due to Game Balance which at first makes people think it was too powerful but I feel it's more that they didn't want to use the limited Pokémon indexes for another electric Pokémon.
Yea, Gorochu was a gen 1 scrap for sure. I tried to show the relevant information, lol. I can't argue with that but I designed this as a part of the 'how overpowered' series because I think designing vanilla gen 1 Pokemon generally feels limited and intentionally nerfed. The thought of sitting around and thinking 'how can I make the learnset a little bad' would make me feel awful for spending my free time. It was a fun experiment! I'd like to do others like Meowsy from gen 2's beta.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987I do think Gorochu wouldn't be as bad in Gen 1 but it will suffer from what many Monoeletric suffer aka Brock. My personal take on Gorochu would have access to the EQ TM but even then it would still be walled by Rocks until you get access to said TM so I get why you wouldn't want to run with that on a video as a more Gen 1 Gorochu would probably be kinda mid for Solo runs.
The other electric types I’ve ran hadn’t been great either. I think Zapdos is the only one worth anything because drill peck can at least do something to Brock lol.
I do enjoy Gorochu being Electric/Dark since it's intended to be part of the op design instead of a "what if Gorochu was actually released in gen 1". Although it was surprising to see it drop speed from Raichu as opposed to just getting stats across the board.
Yea, I guess it depends on the context and how you want to do it. I didn't want to make another side series and wanted it to slot into the modern 'how overpowered' series competing against the top dogs and I like the choice. Some disagree but at the end of the day it doesn't matter what I did because someone out there wouldn't like it. I dropped the speed to make it unique. Kind of like Poliwhirl to Poliwrath style of thinking. I didn't want to just add to Raichu but make something different.
loving the front sprite for the overlay! it's fun seeing your take on a hypothetical pokemon with nothing but a name and your imagination. i'm glad you gave it a signature move, but i think we all know that you didn't make the move nearly busted enough compared to the gen 9 moves (haha). honestly shocked at how good the run was, what with electric typing and middling speed. such is the power of starting with nasty plot. kinda makes me wonder how something would do if it started with swords dance and an easy way past brock.
Yea, not many seen the Diggersby one. Wasn't very popular lol. Special is king in gen 1 but physical attackers try their best. Groudon was probably the best pure one but Mega Charizard X and Shadow Lugia with Shadow Blast did well, although kind of hybrid.
Gorochu as a dark type makes a ton of sense, but with dark having not existed until gen 2 I have two theories. First, gorochu was supposed to stay pure electric and have stat changes similar to yours since they are close to how pikachu changed going into raichu. The 2nd is that it was always supposed to be dark since horns could make it evil looking but they couldn't make other planned dark types fit in the game so they gave up on it. Great video regardless, Gorochu is a great concept and I am sad we lost it forever.
As for the question of the vid, I'd reinvent Gorochu as a Scarlet Paradox Pokemon based on Raichu, probably with Electric/Dark still since I really dig that type.
It is a really cool typing. I enjoyed it. It doesn’t really help but does give options for some wide coverage. I like seeing a successful electric type lol.
@@shrooberto I get (and like) your idea. your idea, but I would go the Hisuan (Past Pokemon) route. Where a few hundred years ago, the evolutionary line went Pikachu -> Raichu -> Gorochu. But as time moved on and Pikachu as a species became domesticated, the line became Pichu -> Pikachu -> Raichu. And the only way to get a Gorochu (as the final evolution), would be to catch a Wild Pikachu and evolve it (if you have a Special Pikachu or a Pikachu that hatched from an Egg, you can't get Gorochu).
This popping up makes me want to play the Kanto Expansion Project again. Their Gorochu is a lot tamer than yours is, but I actually really like this version. This run was really fun to watch!
Appreciate it! Yea, it's more of a modern take within the scope of the series rather than a faithful gen 1 creation. Since it's not a real thing, I wanted to go wild and also compare it to all the other 'overpowered' mons in the series!
You gotta suspend your disbelief a little and have fun. Everyone knows dark type wasn't in gen 1 but this is a different series. Go comment on my other videos that shadow Pokemon didn't exist, Dialga shouldn't be steel type, I shouldn't use new moves, etc., etc. It'll help the algorithm. Or you can watch one of the THOUSANDS of vanilla gen 1 playthroughs that exist.
This was one of my favorite videos of yours. Never knew this Pokémon could’ve (and should’ve) existed until this video. Electric / Dark was the 🤌🏼 choice too!
I would imagine that the actual Gorochu was planned to be Mono-Electric, which would have been fairly dull. The Dark Typing makes it interesting and stand out among the other Electric Types (given how Zapdos is the only one with a secondary Type in Gen I). This is for fun and isn't supposed to be 100% faithful to standard Gen I. It would be fun as an alternate Pikachu evolution.
I made it to 20:48, #realone. I liked that you put your own spin on Gorochus typing. I looked up thr article and a few other things after you mentioned it, along with typing. Electric/Fire would be interesting. And imagine if they didnt scrap it and Surge had it in the anime. Little Pikachu taking an ass beating from tail flail.
Hell yea. Fire was intriguing but it had just been done a lot and I was like 'what hasn't been done before' and just hoped people appreciated the original spin on it. It's been like 90% positive I'd say but some people get fussy no matter what. They're mad it's not on a fat OG gameboy in black and white.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Cant please everyone right? I know previously you mentioned you were undergoing some home repairs. Hope those are going well and you're able to get settled back in soon!
My first thought seeing the thumbnail pick and name was just a fusion mon from pokemon infinite fusion Groudon/Raichu. Then I learned something neat about pokemon. Was cool to hear the story behind it and see an interpretation. I'd say your interpretation fits fairly well all things considered.
I think the design you have is great. I can also see the body design you have now with the flail-like tail of one of the other designs that you showed working as well.
I like Pichu also. All though a weak baby Pokémon, it can be quite strong if trained. Never underestimate Pichu. If Gorochu did exist though, this would make Pikachu it's first form as it was originally since Gen 1 until Gen 2.
There's lots of ways you coulda gone for sure. There are several hacks out there or sentiments that feel about the same. I'm surprised at how many ground/electric comments I got today.
I like the idea of Gorochu being Electric/Dark as an alternative to Alolan Raichu. If they ever decided to bring it into the games for real, I'm curious how its evolution method would be (based on it evolving from Pikachu, since it's unlikely we'll ever get a four-stage evolution).
I'll be honest, if I were to implement Gorochu, just given some of the fanart shown for them, I'd probably give it the Electric/Ground typing. Then probably have the stats favor defense a little more. But, I don't know how well that'd do in the run all things considered.
I didn’t even consider ground tbh but kind of ran with the antithesis to Alolan Raichu! A lot of good ideas are out there that I like reading about though but wanted to put my own spin on it!
I did a rom hack (Bill’s Secret Garden) that included Gorochu in FireRed. Your interpretation of the stats is probably closer to what GameFreak would have done. I didn’t want to lower the speed, so it got increases across the board. Otherwise pretty similar to yours though. I did keep mine pure Elec, and made it evolve from a Raichu knowing Thunderclap. Might have to implement Tail Flail in my hack though, it’s a pretty cool idea!
I can't remember the names of other hacks I researched but fire subtyping with a high crit ratio fire based tail move was something that enticed me at the start of the process! Tail Flail would likely carry a psychic special drop chance but with special boosting moves, I figured I'd save the time and make it have no effect lol.
14:08 ; reminds me of a random song from a kids show like 30 years ago “2+2 is 4, 4+4 is 8” etc all the way up to 32+32 is 64 (or beyond) ; but each time getting higher pitch but faster, thus finding it harder do; then finally taking a breath before going back into it.
Dang, I thought Gorochu could have beaten Steiner. Also, with the bully vibes, I like to think that when Gorochu uses surf, it grabs a random Squirtle and uses that. Kinda like Princess Peach randomly grabbing a Toad to block in Super Smash Brothers.
Lmao, I love the visual. It really just shows how tough it is to get past the Mewtwo bar. I really tried but it just wasn't happening without tons of runs and some luck.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Thought bug types were op in Gen1 for some reason, maybe I got it the wrong way round. but yeah max stat Mewtwo in gen 1. I lost Mewtwo in my first run in Yellow but I did make it through rock tunnel without flash using the OG Gameboy if that means anything.
@ I never wanted No flash rock tunnel as a kid🤣, I legit thought that's how it was meant to be done. when I learned of flash later on I was like "Bruh".
I think I'd build Gorochu very differently. I'd keep if pure electric, since it was originally intended to be a gen 1 Pokemon. And since they thought it was too OP, I'm putting it's power in the range of Eeveelutions to Arcanine, which is 430 bst to 455 bst. On the low end, I'd give +5 to Speed, Atk, and Def, with +10 to HP and +10 to special, making it a 430 with a 70, 95, 60, 100, 105 stat spread. On the high end, because they said it'd be broken, as an Arcanine counterpart, I'm giving it +10 to HP, Atk, and Speed, +5 to def, and +25 to special attack, giving it a 70, 100, 60, 115, 110 stat spread. It's basically a slower Jolteon that hits a bit harder with stab and a lot harder on the physical side. I will admit, I think the first spread is more likely and would make it a good rival to Jolteon and fit the rivalry that's existed since Pokemon Yellow, being modestly slower but still a fast Pokemon and hitting not as hard, but being able to hit physically too. That said, I do really like the Arcanine rival design and would love to see what they'd actually do with this thing if they really did decide to make it a reality. Make Pikachu the one Pokemon with a 4 stage evolution line. Would be pretty cool, and a good reward for the mascot that does really overshadows the rest of its evolution line a bit too much. Would give a good reason to evolve it even when light balls exist to make it stronger than any potential evolution would be
It’s fun to think about how it could have been! The boogieman in the room is that almost all electric types are so bad in gen 1, especially in Yellow, and I didn't want to use a huge chunk of my spare time making something that wouldn't actually be fun to play. At the end of the day I wanted it to slot into my existing side series and be a little more modern outside of the bad gen 1 move choices, haha.
Nice. I heard the ground subtyping a few times and it honestly never crossed my mind when making it! Cool to see it was so obvious to others but I didn't even think about it.
You can almost see why it was cut. Raichu 395, starters + Gengar 425.... Almost gotta put it at 435/440 and then you're encroaching Jolteon and Zapdos.
I kind of ignored Raichu's stats and it looks like they'd probably lower it a little to make more sense. I just put the BST the same as the starters and some other 2nd stage evos.
It'd probably be on par with or slightly better than Jolteon. Similar build, but slower and with actually usable physical attack, I'd imagine. Would fit thematically given the Eeveelution rivalry with Pikachu as of Pokemon Yellow. Kinda disappointed we never got it. I'd love to see a 430-440 bst Raichu evolution
Damn. You did a good job with this video. I kind of wish more people would come up with and implement Pokemon that we never got. It is as close to real PKMN that we can get, besides actual official PKMN (and Regitube. The fake Water Type Regi. It's an awesome meme if you ever saw it). The design you went for with Gorochu and its typing are good. Though I think it's stats are a bit low. Considering that in lore, it would be a "Lost Final Evolution" since Pichu was discovered after the fact, I would consider Gorochu to be in the same category as Arcanine in terms of stats and a Hisuian Like Evolution (one you can only get from a wild Pikachu, since bred Pikachu mostly come from Pichu). So in terms of stats, I would just bump it's speed to 85 or 90. The idea of sacrificing speed is good and unique, but 65 is a bit too slow. Especially since we're thinking about all generations in terms of design and 100 BST speed isn't all that fast anymore. (Oh and maybe bump it's defense to 80. You don't put on all that weight and not get some extra defense, even if only a little.)
Oh waitaminute, you should have given Gorochu TOMBSTONER as a secondary signature move. It would definitely fit as a Dark Type move. Maybe make it weaker but with a chance to flinch or lower speed. So maybe 80 Base Power with a 20% chance to flinch or lower speed.
Yea I wanted a bit more realism in it but grounded into the how overpowered series. It’s like a side grade to Alolan Raichu with its own identity and I was pleased with it. As for Tombstoner, committing to a type and stats would ruin the question!
I figured that Gorochu would have been the final stage of the Pikachu line, so it would have had the same BST as a 3rd stage starter. That's just me, though.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 it's fine bro, it's my fault for commenting at half past 2 in the morning when I'm meant to be sleeping. Ground/electric could've been a cool concept, although maybe gorochu was fluffy cause he was an ice type?
In place of my normal run predictions (because how would I even) I'll answer your question of "how would I design Gorochu" So the only place I can start is the name. A brief Google search tells me that "goro" refers to thunder rumbling which firmly keeps the electric typing in mind. As well, it would have been a generation 2 addition and evolved from a pokemon that evolves from a stone evoltion. All of these elements are actually rather bad for a hypothetical "real" gorochu which I'm going to be approaching the design from. But leaning into the horned mouse design with ogre like qualities that a lot of the speculative art seems to imply does give some options! First off, stats. Because Pikachu was inducted into the starter category in Pokemon Yellow, and Raichu has a stat spread of 485, I'd treat Gorochu as an official 3rd stage starter in a lot of ways. Starting with giving it a BST of 535. I'd put +15 to HP, +10 to Defense, +20 to Special Attack, & +5 to Speed. Giving is a well rounded stat distribution as you'd expect from a starter. As far as evolution, I'd have to rule out Trade since it's meant to be a starter. And level up would change how Raichi plays. So in a very strange move I would have to assume it evolved through a 2nd stone evolution. Likely a Sun Stone (since it's the only new stone in gen 2, and GF liked to imply new evos weren't possible in older games for diagetic reasons, and not release order) And finally the meat of the design: Typing and Moves. Unfortunately I think sticking with Pure Electric is the only move that would make sense for a Gen 2 origin. I wouldn't rule out Psychic or Fighting as add-ons given the Sun Stone evolution, but I think their design philosophy back then would favor a mono-electric type for its few weaknesses. Plus mono-electric is fairly good for Johto as a region. Which only leaves the moveset. I'm going to assume a change in design for stone evolutions (not out of the question since Eeveelutions work this way) and say that Raichu from gen 2 onward would gain moves by level up, and so would Gorochu. And in that respect I would keep things fairly standard, mimicking Pikachu's normal level up list, but at higher levels as it goes. With the exception of a single move meant to be learned at the "correct" evolution level, similar to Extreme Speed on Arcanine. But since it's meant to be a starter that level will be 36, and it would be Thunder. Since signature moves weren't really a thing yet and Gorochu is named after thunder. Overall? Not great, but I think that's how it would have gone down. In the replies I'll also add a complete overhaul as I think it should be, disregarding established patterns.
If I re-designed the Pikachu line to be an honest to Arceus starter then here's what I would do: Rebalance the BST across the board, obviously. Pikachu is WAY too weak and too much of a mixed attacker. Lean into the special side since there's not much in terms of physical electric moves. Put Pikachu's speed around 80. Raichu evolution at level 17, Gorochu at level 35. Raichu would be a bit weaker, but with better distribution of stats it would be bulkier and easier to use as Pokemon. I would also put Raichu' speed around 105. Plenty enough but not overkill. Gorochu I would give a punk rock + oni/ogre design, and give it a dark typing. That seems the most thematically complete. Plus an electric/psychic version for its eventual alolan variant. Gorochu would be a high special + high speed sweeper with the electric version of Blaze as it's ability. It's hidden ability would still be Storm Drain. It would have close to 120 in both Special Attack and Speed. It would also favor physical over special defense. It would gain a lot more sound based moves, including 2 signature moves. One Electric, the other Dark; Oni Thunder - 110 BP, Special, Electric - Never misses, 10% chance to lower attack. Ogre Drum - 80 BP, 100 Acc, Special, Dark - Spread Move, 20% Flinch. But since it would also be able to learn Belly Drum (probably around level 50) it would be mostly run as a physical sweeper with its high enough Atk and very high speed. Also I'd probably release an event only version that has the ability Punk Rock, like the costume Pikachu's in ORAS or the Cap Pikachus.
I can't argue with all of that. I think the design would be much different if you limited your scope to just gen 1 and how things were back then but I had a lot of fun with the full scope of modern Pokemon and it fitting in the 'how overpowered' series. I'm just 'shocked', for lack of a better word, that it did as well as it did. So close but so far away. It just really goes to show how much it really takes to beat gen 1 Mewtwo lol.
Is TM 28 really TAIL FLAIL, brother? Great signature move. Loved that Poliwrath-style speed drop for the power, smart design choice. Good one all around!
That was the inspiration. I've been away from my house due to some dumb things I don't want to go into so I'm away from my main computer so I picked some mons to look at and Poliwhirl/wrath were something I want to do a video on and the speed portion definitely was inspiration. I basically made sure I did like 3ish blind runs before I left and I'm just spreadsheet routing for my free time now lol.
lol do you watch That Chapter? He always says, “I hear you barking big dog.” Made me think of that. Love this hack. I always hoped for Gorochu to come true. 😊
They need to give raichu a mega resembling gorochu. So many people want a split evo for Pikachu, but i don't want my lil buddy to be shoved into the gulag🥺
If Gorochu would have followed the same evolutionary stat increases as Raichu, it would have had a total of 520 base stats. 85 HP, 125 Attack, 80 Defense, 130 Special, 110 Speed No wonder why it was deemed overpowered, as it would have had a higher base stat total than pokémon like Mew, Dragonite and the legendary birds.
Yea, I just assumed Raichu would be slightly nerfed and since I had Nasty Plot from the start, I gave it starter levels of BST. I rarely balance things and just use the highest special stats for other runs but I did have to reign it in for this one.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 yes, that would have made more sense, having an intermediate Raichu stage with a lower total increase, but then having the final Gorochu stage with the stat increases seen with Raichu in the final version. So maybe shaving off 10 points from every stat increase seen with Gorochu in my example would be a more reasonable final stage, putting it at 470 total points. Granted for a pokémon that strong, it would have been balanced into the slow level-up group
Oh god. Putting something willingly into the slow level up group would destroy the run time. I'm not sure I'd come to that conclusion. Just put it at starter BST and call it a day!
I address it. This is more in the scope of modern Pokémon in the how overpowered series I’ve been doing. Mono electric is boring and I didn’t want to use my spare time for boring.
Maybe but the last video which was the intro to cross gen Crystal did pretty bad. I'm going to forever hesitate to play Crystal because no one has really given a shit about it since last Summer lol.
Gorochu was interesting but I'm not convinced about Guardia. I guess lack of information or a different design from Marowak but that's just my opinion.
No one forgot. It’s the ‘how overpowered’ series where I take modern Pokémon and test them against Gen 1 Mewtwo. I’ve done like 30+ runs and only one has beaten it lol.
I think Nintendo pride wouldn't allow them to use the standard design since they didn't make it. They'd also sooner give Pikachu just a buffed up Pikachu form these days, lol. Crazy that Pikachu gets a Gigantimax while Raichu is just there lol.
No, the source code for gen 1 was just leaked and it was some old data in the files. Literally just a back sprite that sort of resembled what Ken Sugimori talked about in an interview years earlier. It's truly a blank slate.
Ain't no way Nintendo is allowing their baby to be dark type. No real criticism though as it's a fan made pokemon. There are no rules. Great moveset design. Shockula is the perfect nickname. Great run 😊
I've been working on reworking many Pokemon things on my own, so may as well throw in what I think Gorochu would've been if you're asking. Since they're from gen 1, to me that would restrict the type to not include dark, steel or fairy. Realistically, they probably would've been pure electric. But personally, that feels boring. Depending on the design, I'd go with a secondary type of fire, fighting or ground. As for the stats, from Pikachu to Raichu they gain 165 stat points, so I'd allocate that same amount for Gorochu. Is a BST of 650 nuts? Yes, but who knows, maybe mascot favoritism was really intense that day. Maybe it was introduced as the final form of an alternate Pokemon Yellow or something. Anyway. The final stats would be 80 HP, 130 Attack, 90 Defense, 130 Special Attack, 90 Special Defense and 130 speed. Would they be absolutely busted? Yes. But this is theoretical and I wouldn't implement them myself (Pichu makes the third member of the line after all, I'd sooner buff Raichu than add an evolution for them, along with evolving after using a stone not being a thing) so I'm not that fussed about it. If you're implementing Gorochu, you're having fun with it. So why not make 'em a powerhouse? Make their evolution method something like a schoolyard rumor too, like having to beat all three of the elemental birds with Raichu and then they evolve.
That’s half the fun! You can do whatever with these non released ones. I just wanted a new spin and identity to it, which was the main reason for the speed drop. It did well but fit into the series so I was happy with the final result!
This is so damn cool!!!!! How does we trademark these so no bigger channels go "hmm thats a good idea"? In my personal canon, Gorochu is a branch off of Alolan Pikachu. Like you could use one stone for Alolan Raichu and a different one for Gorochu
Ha, I'm in the thick of planning out some runs but I want to move to some fusion ones too. You already know. Just like cross gen, someone is going to go wild with the idea and the beautiful part of life is that you can't do anything about it lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Thats a good way to look at it. I guess my main issue with it is just that it would be nice if they would leave some space for you to find your calling card instead of ballooning into wherever you move. But that kind of attitude is a huge part of why I'm here consistently 😂
And I appreciate it! Yea several channels kind of ran with the cross Gen stuff. I distinctly remember some saying they don’t agree with cross Gen stuff and all that but someone calls it backport and everyone salivates lmao.
I'm sure there's a hardcoded reason, but I don't have the answer for you. It's the same reason when you do steel types in gen 1, you are immune to damaging poison moves like Poison Sting but Poison Gas can still poison you.
Gotta be hard coded for the move itself somewhere in the engine. Maybe different categories of status. I know good AI would still not let them pick up but in the Hoopa video Morty goes for hypnosis on me as well.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 u erned my sub thank u for your content it going to genuinly bring be alot of hopefully hours of joy through my life se genuinly thank.u
Personally I would lower the attack a bit and the HP for speed and special. There are several special dark types with the physical special split so you could really lean into the special attack stat. Then speed because I feel like an Evo of Raichu needs to be fast.
Interesting take and not wrong. I just had this specific vision of a slower bruiser. Slashing the speed made it have an identity rather than just being a higher stat Raichu.
@GymLeaderMatt1987 I completely understand why you did that though. I still like your concept allot. But with saying this he could still have his own identity with a decently diverse move set with it. Especially since a decent amount of dark types in general have multiple move types in there move pool from almost any other type. Plus with them doing the special split you could also make him a special tank that can hit decently hard specially, now granted since I said lower HP and his defense is mediocre a physical move could annihilate him. Like I said though just me personally. Loved the video it was my first one I watched from you. I clicked on it cause nostalgia 😂.
Yea a big problem and probably why it ultimately didn't pass Mewtwo was being slightly frail to physical attacks. I'm always interested to hear what others would do, because at the end of the day it's not a real Pokemon and I understand there are a million ways to go about it. It's a cool discussion.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 it's going to be hard to be at the Mewtwo line though just for how busted he was made in generation one. Maybe mega Alakazam? If you haven't tried him.
I haven't. I don't even really do UA-cam part time these days so I can put a video out maybe once every two weeks and stream once every month or two are my goals. Alakazam vanilla is up for a redo but I'll prob do Mega Gengar next cross gen. Cooking Gyarados vanilla right now.
The most simple answer is that the medium slow level group is S tier for these runs and a balanced stat distribution gave it an easier path to prepare for Lorelei.
Gorochu shpuld have been a paradox pokemon. That is our only hope unless they give raichu a mega that is gorochu and i feel dark is perfect as to giving it a mega and fire type when he learns no fire moves makes no sense.
Just the vibe I was going with the bruiser theme. I wanted to make it have an identity and 65 isn't bad for solo runs. Only like 5~ points away from optimal.
Tons of interpretations out there but I wanted to do it in my cross generation series and not be faithful to a bland Gen 1 look. I tried to articulate that the best I could in the video.
Not a ton of hate but you can't really please everyone. If you do a borning/bland mono electric type that struggles on Brock but keeps the 'spirit' of awful gen 1 learnsets, people would ask why you didn't make it better. You can't win so you might as well do what you think is fun lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 question. Google Gemini says that mathematically, the best defensive type for a Solo Run would be Dragon/Grass, and running Water, Ground, Fighting, and Ice attacks. Got plans for one?
I believe an unused cry was also found, it sounds like a much harsher, slightly slower Raichu cry. Almost an amalgamation of Rhydon and Raichu's cries, is my best verbal description

Matt I was waiting for this, nice work!
1:19 Yeah, well, pretend Pawmot doesn't exist. Think of it being a scenario where Gen 1 was still new, and had Gorochu existed, Pawmot would either not exist or would get a different secondary typing.
I shudder at the thought trying to make a fighting type good for the purposes of this series lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Fair dinkum.
3 videos coming out at the same time I want to watch … Matt takes priority
Nice. I tried to move ‘my’ time to a random spot most people wouldn’t be at but it’s becoming a hassle lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987Not much you can do about it man, its youtube theres a whole myriad of videos and creators out there man.. cant please everyone
Agreed. Not sure they’d duo type in vanilla!
At the start of the video, this is exactly how I was hoping Gorochu would be implemented at this point. Not exactly what we would want, but would be cool.
Can you keep me updated? 👀
When I saw Gorochu I assumed it would have been Electric/Fire, like a wild red oni
Yea I wanted to do my own little spin on it!
Makes you wish there was more use for fire moves in a solo run. They are pretty great early and maybe against Cloyster in a pinch.
But Dark was added in Gen 2 and Gorochu was designed for Gen 2. So there's no reason to exclude it from the type options.
I didn't want to just add to Raichu but make something different.
after a long day, I’ve finally got my Sodypop and ready to kick back and watch my favorite Poketuber!
You rock Matt!
Appreciate the kind words, brother!
loving the front sprite for the overlay! it's fun seeing your take on a hypothetical pokemon with nothing but a name and your imagination. i'm glad you gave it a signature move, but i think we all know that you didn't make the move nearly busted enough compared to the gen 9 moves (haha). honestly shocked at how good the run was, what with electric typing and middling speed. such is the power of starting with nasty plot. kinda makes me wonder how something would do if it started with swords dance and an easy way past brock.
oh wait, diggersby started with swords dance. guess i gotta go rewatch that one~
Yea, not many seen the Diggersby one. Wasn't very popular lol. Special is king in gen 1 but physical attackers try their best. Groudon was probably the best pure one but Mega Charizard X and Shadow Lugia with Shadow Blast did well, although kind of hybrid.
This isn't your average mouse pokemon!
This is SUPER RAICHU!
Bulked up for sure.
I'd love to hear the full story but we'll probably never know. It seems they had something too overpowered and cut it!
I haven't thought about Gorochu in ages. Wonderful run as always!
Been a fever dream from around covid times lol.
I'm absolutely here for this one. I have no idea what type or stats this thing is going to have.
Yea, not a long one but I do explain rationale behind everything!
Wonder if we would have still gotten Pichu if Gorochu had been real, would be the first 4 stage evo line.
I’d say no.
That is a good idea! Maybe they’ll do something like that but with Pikachu being the mascot they’d sooner give it new things lol.
Funny enough, my interpretation of Gorochu was _also_ that if the Dark-type existed in Gen 1, it would have it.
Nice. Within this series, it was too perfect not to do.
Electric/Dark makes a lot of sense.
Oh yea! Hope I articulated it well!
Even though we are talking about Gen1 when Dark type didn't exist? Hm

Fun fact Gorochu is a secret boss in Pokemon Close Combat. Cool to see it in gen 1 like this
That's nice. I'll have to google it! Sounds like they went fighting and it had a hard hitting close combat lol.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 you should! Its a really cool fan made old school side scroll 2d fighter with only fighting type pokemon

This was one of my favorite videos of yours. Never knew this Pokémon could’ve (and should’ve) existed until this video. Electric / Dark was the 🤌🏼 choice too!
Appreciate that. I get some push back but at the end of the day, it's how I wanted it to be within the scope of this series.
I am indeed a real one, as I heavily believe that you perfectly capture the stats distribution for GuroChu for generation one :)
Yea, I looked at all the stage two pokemon and assigned accordingly!
Gorochu's "beaten up" sprite sends me. Well done Sir! XD
Glad you enjoyed it! Always the favorite part of bringing some flavor to the runs.
A branching evolution like Alolan Raichu to this would be a cool choice as well.
Going slow! Hoping to be back in by February soonish! I sure do miss home lol.
Appreciate that. Fusions will come one day when I figure out a good way to make some base rules.

Go watch em!
I think the design you have is great. I can also see the body design you have now with the flail-like tail of one of the other designs that you showed working as well.
Yea, it's really interesting to think about how to implement it!
Great video mate. Entertaining and to the point.
Thanks for the kind words!
I think that reset prevented Gorochu from beating Mewtwo's time.
Nah! In game time doesn’t matter. The formula does take resets into account but 1 is free!
If Gorochu existed, there would be no Pichu in Generation 2, sadly.
I got a few Pichu hate comments on here. I like Pichu personally!
G O O D
I like Pichu also. All though a weak baby Pokémon, it can be quite strong if trained. Never underestimate Pichu.
If Gorochu did exist though, this would make Pikachu it's first form as it was originally since Gen 1 until Gen 2.
Love the cross-gen runs!
Appreciate you watching!
If I were designing Gorochu I think I'd go Electric/Fighting with a slight physical lean, but I think the Dark type is also pretty suitable for it.
There's lots of ways you coulda gone for sure. There are several hacks out there or sentiments that feel about the same. I'm surprised at how many ground/electric comments I got today.
I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice, Raichu is GOATed and Gorochu is even more GOATed
What could have been!
I like the idea of Gorochu being Electric/Dark as an alternative to Alolan Raichu. If they ever decided to bring it into the games for real, I'm curious how its evolution method would be (based on it evolving from Pikachu, since it's unlikely we'll ever get a four-stage evolution).
I think Pichu wouldn’t exist and it would be level or trade for vanilla but maybe a repurposed mega could work.
14:23 *TOMBSTONER, BROTHER!!!!*
Hell yea.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 yessir!
A lot of good ideas are out there that I like reading about though but wanted to put my own spin on it!
love that u include tcg music
Oh yea. Each thumbnail I do is drawn from TCG art too! I love the nostalgia hit from some of the TCG tracks.

Hope you enjoy and happy lunar new year to you too!
Electric#Dark#Fire@Gorrochu now! Be well now🥰😇!
Having access to Earthquake nasty plot surf and Thunderbolt is op ngl.
It is the ‘how overpowered’ series and it STILL wasn’t as good as vanilla Gen 1 Mewtwo lol.
It’s all about fun and what you want to accomplish!
@ I never wanted No flash rock tunnel as a kid🤣, I legit thought that's how it was meant to be done. when I learned of flash later on I was like "Bruh".
Yea it’s cool to do without there and in gen 2 as well. I never get flash and after you do a million runs, I just took away the dark lol.
I would have gone elec ground with sandslash inspiration.
Thanks for asking the chat.
It did and I specifically talk about it! Exact same bst as Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 I know that you did, I was just leaving a comment for the algorithm, but something that you'd agree with
My bad! The ‘just me’ part seemed like I didn’t agree and I did agree!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 it's fine bro, it's my fault for commenting at half past 2 in the morning when I'm meant to be sleeping.
Ground/electric could've been a cool concept, although maybe gorochu was fluffy cause he was an ice type?
Yea I got a few ground type comments but that never even crossed my mind!
Just out of curiosity, where did that Gorochu front and back sprite come from?
I’d have to look but mainly google searches and then changing it around and tweaking. Nothing exists in gen 1/2 size so I had to ground up that.
Now every time I hear the rocket team theme in Silph Co only Lance commiting warcrimes comes to my mind :
Lmao, he can’t keep getting away with it!
Tail Flail... ngl wishing Gorochu was canon.
Maybe we'll get something similar as a Raichu Mega Evo one of these days
You never know! A branching evo from alolan to this would be cool.
In place of my normal run predictions (because how would I even) I'll answer your question of "how would I design Gorochu"
So the only place I can start is the name.
Likely a Sun Stone (since it's the only new stone in gen 2, and GF liked to imply new evos weren't possible in older games for diagetic reasons, and not release order)
And finally the meat of the design: Typing and Moves.
If I re-designed the Pikachu line to be an honest to Arceus starter then here's what I would do:
Rebalance the BST across the board, obviously.
It would gain a lot more sound based moves, including 2 signature moves. One Electric, the other Dark;
Oni Thunder - 110 BP, Special, Electric - Never misses, 10% chance to lower attack.
I think it should be a split evo, raichu with a thunderstone, go Richi with a dusk stone
That sounds like a great idea!
This was the same game that added Alakazam, so it probably wouldn't have been "unbalanced"
Mewtwo you mean!
lol do you watch That Chapter? He always says, “I hear you barking big dog.” Made me think of that.
Love this hack. I always hoped for Gorochu to come true. 😊
Ayy, I definitely do watch a lot of Mike Oh.
They need to give raichu a mega resembling gorochu. So many people want a split evo for Pikachu, but i don't want my lil buddy to be shoved into the gulag🥺
I get the feeling they'd just make mega Pikachu with a costume or something.
Real one! The alternate reality mouse put in some work
If raichu would of gotten a evo it would of likely drastically shifted the gen 1 meta a much stronger raichu with the ability to learn surf
The speed might be an issue but my Gen 1 competitive knowledge comes all from Big Yellow lol
@GymLeaderMatt1987 same i loved his gen 1 glitch pokemon videos you could use one of them to beat mewtwo i bet
If Gorochu would have followed the same evolutionary stat increases as Raichu, it would have had a total of 520 base stats.
85 HP, 125 Attack, 80 Defense, 130 Special, 110 Speed
No wonder why it was deemed overpowered, as it would have had a higher base stat total than pokémon like Mew, Dragonite and the legendary birds.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 That is true. It would be a horrible run, all things considered
Should have given Tail Flail a chance to flinch.
Special drop was the choice but since I knew I’d be boosting, it would just make the run slower with more text lol.
But the Dark type didn't exist in Gen 1. It would just be an Electric type.
I address it. This is more in the scope of modern Pokémon in the how overpowered series I’ve been doing. Mono electric is boring and I didn’t want to use my spare time for boring.
Whoever comments third was kissed in the cheek by an old lady at Walmart yesterday
And what else?
trying to keep it pg13 brother, but she became the grimmer to my muk ❤
I'll probably never hear the phrase ' the grimer to my muk' again, haha.
Awesome to see a brand new pokemon. Feels like it'd do even better in Chrystal?
Maybe but the last video which was the intro to cross gen Crystal did pretty bad. I'm going to forever hesitate to play Crystal because no one has really given a shit about it since last Summer lol.
Gorochu and Guardia SHOULD have been in the game!
Gorochu was interesting but I'm not convinced about Guardia. I guess lack of information or a different design from Marowak but that's just my opinion.
Electric Dark is an amazing choice!
It felt so right!
Did everyone forget that the dark type didn't exist in gen 1???
No one forgot. It’s the ‘how overpowered’ series where I take modern Pokémon and test them against Gen 1 Mewtwo. I’ve done like 30+ runs and only one has beaten it lol.
Kinda sucks we haven't gotten Gorochu as an alternate, regional evolution for Pikachu or variant of Raichu like how we got Perserker
I think Nintendo pride wouldn't allow them to use the standard design since they didn't make it. They'd also sooner give Pikachu just a buffed up Pikachu form these days, lol. Crazy that Pikachu gets a Gigantimax while Raichu is just there lol.
Why do you have Nasty Plot with physical attacks? Or does Nasty Plot raise physical attack instead in this version?
It raises special and Electric/Dark are special types pre Gen 4!
did they just compile the beta or did they fix it up and make a romhack of it?
No, the source code for gen 1 was just leaked and it was some old data in the files. Literally just a back sprite that sort of resembled what Ken Sugimori talked about in an interview years earlier. It's truly a blank slate.
How good would Morpeko be. Considering that has the electric dark type thing going on. Shoulda just kept it as Electric alone
I wasn’t going for vanilla but if I could ever figure out form changes that would be awesome for Morepeko and Aegislash!
Ain't no way Nintendo is allowing their baby to be dark type.
No real criticism though as it's a fan made pokemon. There are no rules. Great moveset design.
Shockula is the perfect nickname.
Great run 😊
They scrap, I make up what it is and yap!
Dang man you’re so close to 20k subs now, just get your family to make a few more accounts
I’ve been close for like 5 months lol.
Liking and commenting for the brisk swim to cinnabar algorithm
That’s what I like to read!
Why is ground type immune to thunder wave but dark type isn't immune to hypnosis?
I'm sure there's a hardcoded reason, but I don't have the answer for you. It's the same reason when you do steel types in gen 1, you are immune to damaging poison moves like Poison Sting but Poison Gas can still poison you.
@GymLeaderMatt1987 it's not just a gen 1 thing, weirdly enough. The poison thing is, but in gen 2 and 3 at least, hypnosis affects dark types, too.
Gotta be hard coded for the move itself somewhere in the engine. Maybe different categories of status. I know good AI would still not let them pick up but in the Hoopa video Morty goes for hypnosis on me as well.
Never heard of u seen this vid watching might sub lets see first 1min looking promising
Nice! Enjoy.
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 u erned my sub thank u for your content it going to genuinly bring be alot of hopefully hours of joy through my life se genuinly thank.u
No problem!
I love this video neat using a scrap Pokémon
I’d like to do more!
Psychic was massively OP in gen 1. No way they would have made it that type.
Good thing I didn’t make it that lol
Good call on the name shockula lol
I try to put some thought into the names! It was great, imo.
8:07 Vegeta what does the scouter say about his subscriber level…. it’s over 20000! ;)
Ha, been trying for that for like half a year.
Blackberry Dr Pepper today!
Wait.
How the hell did Flygon beat Garchomp?
The most simple answer is that the medium slow level group is S tier for these runs and a balanced stat distribution gave it an easier path to prepare for Lorelei.
Gorochu shpuld have been a paradox pokemon. That is our only hope unless they give raichu a mega that is gorochu and i feel dark is perfect as to giving it a mega and fire type when he learns no fire moves makes no sense.
Wait please proof that 2 +2 = 4..... 😂😂😂😂😂
Sounds like some Terrance Howard level reasoning lol.
Love that subscribe animation
Is the slowpoke in this one? Been dabbling in animation!
@ yep he’s pressing it with his tail, it’s very charming I wish I was not subscribed so I could subscribe now
hello matt hope everything is going well. Thanks for the viedo
Things are GREAT! Still trying to get back to the house and finally reorganize the tier list after the Mewtwo redo lol.
@GymLeaderMatt1987 every time I hear you got a plan I know I'll have something great to watch
Too many ideas and not enough time but I’ll get it out eventually!
@@GymLeaderMatt1987 can't wait to watch it
Thanks, Matt. Cool pokemon
Thanks for watching!
It should be pure electric in yellow maybe getting that dark in gen2
Porque no los dos?
@GymLeaderMatt1987 Dark didnt exist in gen1.
It definitely did. Do you even play Pokemon? Have you ever heard of Onix?
1:50 omg if its speed was higher on in a tail wind team its op
All it takes is a little imagination to give it an extra 30 speed!
@GymLeaderMatt1987 factsssss
here we go
Yea! Trying something new!
it's not really gen 1 to use dark and those later gen moves
That’s the point. I’ve also done Dialga, Iron Thorns, Mega Charizard X, and the series is called ‘how overpowered’.
Why did you make it slow!?😢
Just the vibe I was going with the bruiser theme. I wanted to make it have an identity and 65 isn't bad for solo runs. Only like 5~ points away from optimal.
1 minute in and wow hot take. Goruchu the scrapped Gen 1 type with a .....not Gen 1 Type
Tons of interpretations out there but I wanted to do it in my cross generation series and not be faithful to a bland Gen 1 look. I tried to articulate that the best I could in the video.
@GymLeaderMatt1987 I posted at the 1 minute mark before you got into that before Misty 🤣 all for entertainment boss! Great video.
Oh now I read all the other comments. Didn't mean to pile on "hate".
That’s awesome! I haven’t listened to cries in a very long time.
Real one
Appreciate it a lot!
