No Worries, Jeff! As usual, you are amazingly helpful. In spite of being down here in zone 10, you just reminded me that I must immediatly prepare & plant the 5 berry bushes my daughter gifted me! And then there's servicing my pruners & loppers! Thanks so much😁🌿
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Hot & muggy, flirting with 90° week before last, last week we had servere floods, ( Ft Lauderdale Airport was closed 2 days!), & this week it's back to the 80s! Winter was extremely dry & warm. No potato crop for me this year!
Hi! I just found you (liked & subscribed too) because I’m planning on planting ginger & tumeric in my garden this year. I’d done it before but I wanted a refresher. Found your vid’s & love your info!! You garden in no-till like I do & do a lot of things I do so I’ll be lurking from now on. Thanks for the channel!
Another nice loooong video 😉 just like I like 'em. 😊 Thank you Jeff. I was pruning trees and planting seeds and just enjoying the heck out of spring yesterday. But I WILL be good and do maintenance too. I promise 😇😁😁😁
awesome! planted my flowers indoors, I got marigolds, nasturtium and zinnias! my 3 top favorite..and sunflower will be by next month directly sown, and perennial flowers will be popping up soon, my black eyed Susan, lupine, hydrangeas, azaleas, and many more ...
Your videos are great! Always like the re-caps! Peppers and tomatoes are just few days seedlings. Here in Michigan zone 5 b... got things done in fantastic weather last week. Soaking rain today....
Thanks for the reminders 🌱 about bed & tool maintenance! S. FL's rainy season is finally here! 🌿 The berry bushes are calling, & I need to watch your vids about them😀
Pots are my limitations and this year I dumped them out, remixed the soils with new material, added worm compost in small amounts and refilled the pots. It's one way to find out if anything has gone anaerobic, stinky, and make sure it doesn't happen again. I went to a local pet store and bought a bale of shredded chips for ground cover. I looked to see if the chips were natural or treated. Raspberries still need repotting, but they're already starting to flower, so I can just add worm extract for now. New pots are now sold with much better drainage, and my potato chits without the tuber are doing quite well. My experiment seems to be going well.
I am itching to get back to gardening! I didn’t get to do much myself last season due to a fractured tuberosity and torn rotator cuff! Hubby filled in but nothing like doing things yourself! Hoping for a good season of growth this year! Love your tips! 🇨🇦❤️
Have you done any experiments to see which plants harden off best at which stage of growth? I heard that the younger they are is when they have the best chance of survival and less stress. After this, I would be interested to see how yields per plant were impacted.
This made me feel better as I'm pretty much on top of all these tasks...except tool sharpening. .. Would you mind very much to do a quickie on how to sharpen sacateurs? I have a very similar pair to yours that came with a funny little sharpening tool that I have not much idea how to use...thanks!
You always seem to be so active, love your videos :-) Thank You. When I plant tomatoes, I usually pop 2 or 3 seeds into a cup-a-noodle container, can I plant them if the 2 or 3 seeds germinate into a 5 gal container or the ground? Or, should I pull them apart to make single plantings, or something else?
Awesome reminder - essential tasks, for sure. I was away last fall and got home sick, then winter hit....so have way more 'catching up' to do, but am doing what I can when the weather cooperates. I'm in Ontario, north of Toronto, zone 5 nearing 4.... One question - did a cover crop of clover a couple years back for overwintering a couple beds, and I just can't seem to get rid of the clover which is a problem for my strawberries that I am growing there now.... I only mulch now (straw or leaves), no cover crop.... any advice??
Wouldn’t cover crops take away lots of nutrients from the soil tho(especially nitrogen)? Also can cover crops be replaced with decent mulching over winter?
You can cut cover crops down and leave the foliage in place. No nutrients lost. Plus, a healthy, active top soil actually gains nitrogen (more importantly USABLE nitrogen) just by having a crop growing and keeping the bacteria and organisms bioactive. Mulching in place of cove crops is a decent alternative, for sure.

It kind of works like that with most plants actually. The taller and more out of control they get, it makes it tougher to condition them.
In my experience, peppers (hot or sweet) are an exception to that. If they get chilled when they're small, it seems like they never really catch up.
@@dogslobbergardens-hv2wf I can see that. They are the one plant I really wait until it's super warm out to plant outside
Hi Jeff, great video with lots of useful information for getting ready for the season. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Right on Christine... We just need to shake this winter cold.... My body is ready!

Right in Helen! Sharpening is super easy. Just grind away from the body. You can see it in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/l1IoN953oMw/v-deo.html
I'm still fighting the clover from the time I followed the cover crop advice.. 😂
Like, its become a weed now? Smother it if you can....it dies back quite quickly that way! :-)

thumbs up

Thanks Nicholas, appreciate that! For tomatoes, you'll definitely want to separate them...they need their space to grow properly. :-)
Thank you
JEFF, you mentioned cutting cover crops. Buy do you need to get rid of the roots of a cover crop before planting?
