Picked up some mulch for the front yard today. Then I looked at what they had in the garden center. Found rhubarb to plant along with the rest of the garden. Can’t wait for fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. 🙏🏻💙🙏🏻
Jeff, when it comes to getting folks to try growing tomatoes, you’re driving the bus! That has to be very rewarding to you. No doubt you sleep good at night. Thank you for this.
Hi Jeff. I've not really M.I.A. I've been watching your other videos. Which infact were very helpful. Anyway, I have to catch up to this series. I'm so glad you're talking tomatoes. Although mine are pretty good. I'm not sure why the bottom two sets of leaves are kinda drooping. Also, my zucchini is awesome. Thanks to you. Well, I'm going to hang out and wait for ya.❤
My plants were hit by flea beetles 🪲 and then half of them have curly top virus 🦠 😢😢😢 I’m glad it’s early enough in the season to try again, i had started all mine from seeds.
I put out my tomatoes (some of them) about two weeks ago. Finish the rest of them a couple of days ago; already, they are loving the new space given to them in buckets. Keep these videos coming. I am still determining my zone since I live in Kingston, ON, and a couple of zones cross-lap each other.
The PERFECT A-Z video for a brand newbie like me. My bestie birthday was 1st of April & I gave her a gardening gift set and also had some organic superior quality tomatoes seeds a few types, she planted loads and gave me loads and her mother in law as well. I desperately needed this video, they're about 3" now and in the window sill in direct sunlight & we've had loads of it last few days, thanks Jeff ❤❤❤
Thank you so much as my cousin who lives in Trinidad said to plant them it has sprouts but no roots . She said to plant them . I had them in water . After watching your video I have put them in coconut coir and closed the container and put them on a heating mat! Thanks again !
Hi, I’m Yolanda the person from PR, regarding the top soil I’m scraping it for other purposes. I’m starting fresh with the correct soil for planting using containers. 😂
Have you ever tried something like Jobe's tomato spikes? I tried them this year and I'm seeing a difference between these and last years. But if a good liquid fertilizer is better i wouldnt mind trying it. Or if they can be used together even better
Hi Jeff from the ripe garden I love your videos and quickies except some of the videos pixels are really bad still I watch your videos over and over. I am also on your Facebook channel which I love too
I have an unrelated question. I am a little pressed for space. I am wondering if I planted some watermelon or squash in a place that they would vine out onto gravel, would that hurt them?
I was given 50 gal. Grow bags as a gift. I would like to grow tomatoes in them. What is the best way to fill them and how many tomatoes can I put into one bag. I'm in zone 5b and my planting season is now. Thank you for your help
I just uppotted my tomatoe seedlings.. I’ve got bout 20 varieties growing and all doing remarkably well.. but I just discovered a hard lesson.. 😂 i seeded my cukes, zukes, squash and melons .. about 40 plants.. and the markers are all washed off 😳 I don’t even know which tray has what .. they’ve not sprouted yet.. so I think I just need to restart them.. not sure my skill level.. or anxiety 😂 will just let me plant them wherever .. not knowing what they are.. now.. off to find a good permanent marker for my plant tags!
Wait until they sprout and then you will see they have different leaves. If your seed pack doesn’t have a picture you can search on line for pictures, also.
Just found your channel and subbed. :) Could you please answer something for me? I live in an apartment building and started my green onions in water today. I can ONLY do it this way as I don't have a garden. How do I keep growing green onions without buying them? Thank you for a fellow Canadian! :)
It should be relatively simple, find a good window, put those onions into small pots with light soil, onions don't like "wet feet". Don't over-water, allow them to dry out abit, then water from the bottom. I use old lids for saucers. You can plant 2 or 3 together in a pot.
Netting, it's available in places like dollar stores, put 2 sticks either side of the plants, then drape nets and secure to sticks with string. Alternative, I used old CDs on strings so they swing and flash the light. I hung them on sticks from old broken branches.
I tried to cut bottom leaves away but it got out of hand quickly. Several new tomatoes ripened close to the ground and many were damaged. Next year I will try to keep up
Feed for tomatoes. In the event of a serious recession, global supply chain chaos, what kind of "homemade" feeding option is there? Am just starting on homemade "fertiliser" options. Grass cuttings - but not for "flowering/fruit plants" Comfrey? Any suggestions? thanks
Comfrey extract. Shred leaves, soak in warm water that's been given a tiny bit of citric acid (neutralizes chlorine compounds) and dilute 2-1. Water the bottom, not over the top.
@@ninemoonplanet Thank for the helpful suggestions...Will try the Comfrey shedding route. Re the "Citric acid angle, part of a squeezed Orange?Lemon? A few drops only right?
Found my first caterpillar on my tomato plant. I flushed it and the leaf it was on. I don’t see any eggs on the plant. I’m new at this though. Learning through yt.
I've found no problem with romas, cherries, & overcrowding them. Sounds better to say - French intensive biodynamic method. Sounds like you did it on purpose, not "planted too close". Fertilize properly they'll produce plenty, naturally sidestepping to try & avoid stepping on each other's sunlight. Or, I'll do a Roma and pickle cuke in same pot, always dump all couple dozen pots on a tarp on the deck, mix in dirt & organics..sometime let the pile winter over & remix, rejuvenate & supplement before refilling pots in Spring..that's the best way to keep any one pot's soil from getting thin & depleted.
I watched a channel the other day, the gardener talked about how his veggies were wilting and dying. He used goat manure. The goats are hay he stored that he found out was sprayed with Grazon, a herbicide. There could be a few reasons as to why your tomatoes wilted. Water is a big one. However, check your soil and use a meter to check the ph and moisture levels.
@@Navajosun thanks for the advice! I used our local compost that I use every year and made sure to add blood & bone meal. We have gotten a great deal of rain since and even more anticipated. We will just keep on keeping on and pray for the best.
@@TaZerrHD I totally get that! But I’d love to see him do it maybe on a private group! He’s got such great talent and knowledge, I think it’s be a great challenge for him.

Thanks again, Jeff. Your tip about putting the tomato plant on its side. Great to know as I mainly use fabric bags. Maggie

Know how you feel!! That happened to me with Pumpkin and Acorn Squash. I just planted them and fingers-crossed I got them together. LOL
There is a great ap....plant net. It will tell you what you have once you get recognizable leaves.
Lee Valley has special garden markers that do t wash off or fade. I also use a label maker from Staples to make labels for my stakes.
What kind of hey/ straw are you using?
Can wood mulch be used as I bought a big bag of it

Comfrey extract. Shred leaves, soak in warm water that's been given a tiny bit of citric acid (neutralizes chlorine compounds) and dilute 2-1. Water the bottom, not over the top.
Second option, if you have compost, do much the same thing but dilute more.
Use those shredded leaves for really good mulch, double win. 👍
