i am so sad to hear of raylene's passing....just going through their videos the best i have ever heard...always loved them ...the family has had such hard times these pass few years..my heart goes out to them...rest in peace raylene your brother and sister are waiting for you go sing with the angels....
lovely song, really nice people too.. met them years back when they played in aberdeen scotland.. a pleasure to work with every time i was lucky enough to get the chance.
For some reason: The Orangedale stop always stuck in my mind; during my train trip to Halifax, as a kid. The wife & I, just had to visit the area last week for a Sunday drive. The Train Station is still there! Awesome!! The era is gone, but the town is still filled with good people.
@alamanderflash Apparently NC, like Nova Scotia (especially Cape Breton), had many highland Scots immigrants. Jennifer Licko from NC does a good job of Fear a Bhata.
@samuelducanada I have now replaced my previous CDs and gotten many more, I'm well on my way to having their complete discography. Their voices are just beautiful.
@samuelducanada Many of my father's ancestors were Scots-Irish, actually. Maybe it is in the blood. There's been a lot of mixture with English and German populations in my ancestry, though.

Great song, great musical family. I miss their music!

Do you still live there? I’m from Glasgow and saw them play in Canada in 1994. I love their music.
This is my faviorte Rankin song :)

Reminds me of the tracks that have been pulled up all throughout Newfoundland too.

@alamanderflash Me too! Loaned them to my brother, and never got them back. No one knows where they are.

@alamanderflash Us too. Some poor areas (in CB for example) had few new immigrants to intermarry with.
I have GOT to replace my Rankin CDs. Shouldn't have loaned them out.
@alamanderflash This may be their best song, although I like the traditional ones too.
Are you originally from Canada?
@samuelducanada Nope, NC born and raised. Just like good music, particularly multi-singer harmonies.
Who ever put the thumb down are tone deaf and do not know quality music
