I've been a fan of The Rankin Family for many years now. Jimmy would visit Cheticamp and patron my sister and her husbands business. I still have a letter that Mrs. Rankin (Mom) wrote to me in the early 1990's when I had written to the family. I am still sadden by our loss of John but the music lives on and plays on forever! Thank you Rankin Family!!!!
The talent in this family is truly awesome. Their music is so incredible I'm surprised they don't have more hits on youtube. I could listen to them forever! So sad to hear of the loss of their sister. RIP Raylene.
You were blessed! I've never heard them b4 this year. Just amazing, incredible, beautiful, voices. Beautiful group. So sorry for the ones who left this world too soon. Greatly, greatly missed!
I LOOOOVE the Rankin's! My kid's have been soothed to sleep by their gaelic melodies and danced themselves silly tired to their songs, especially this one. They are great! Ah, nah nah I be stealin' paint! ooh-ahh nee nah-ni, ooh-ahh nee nah-nee...!
The first time i heard this song was on the online celtic radio Live365 Celtic Moon, and i fell in love with their music, now after like 4 years i just happen to hear this delightful music again !. This will be children's lullaby
each song on this medley gets better and better! I get the chllls when I hear this! It never gets old! I want the lyrics, even if I can't understand them!
I believe the song fare thee well love was given to the Rankin family by God. That they may share it with all. It brings tears of joy and sorrow to my heart each time I hear it
"I am tired, and I am alone, cutting the bracken, cutting the bracken. I am tired and I am alone, cutting the bracken, forever. Behind the knoll, up on the knoll, behind the pretty knoll, behind the knoll, up on the knoll, all the day alone." is what I have in english.
One of the albums that set my preferences for how music is compiled on a disc. I loved that transition, and not listening to the next track immediately following feels jarring ...i think that's how they'd want it.
I heard this song at the end of an old “Northern Exposure” episode and loved it.
The same just happened to me and I had to hunt this beautiful melody down and save it! So moving!
I can almost smell the beautiful Cape Breton winds. Magnificent music.
I grew up on this . Beautiful .

What a flashback! I heard this first when I was about 10 years old. Brought me back to Gaelic.
Chris Stevens joins Maggie O’Connell as Cicely in the Founders Day Parade. We are lucky people indeed!

Love it! Does anybody know what they're saying in the second bit? Whatever it is it sounds royally unimpressed!
Hey uploader, do you know what the english translation is of the third verse of Tha mi sgith? Not the one about sitting upon the knoll, but after.
@djtblizzle "Fare Thee Well Love".

Buain na rainich!
What is the first song?
How do you say with proper grammar in Gaelic, "My shillelagh I let fly."
Wonder why they didn't post the whole thing?
Gwen Gielfeldt What do you mean?
this is the whole thing. on the cd, it goes right into another song - so it sort of sounds cut off

Yes, that's why the track is titled "Gaelic Medley" It's a medley of several Gaelic tunes.
What CD is this from?
Fucking amazing.
