Lot of iphone wannabe 'movers' to Pixel/Android on this thread worried about losing Facetime etc...haven't you heard of WhatsApp or Duo which are multi-platform?
As a android person, NO ONE uses duo/allo and I rather not ask people to download it just for me. The next time I get a phone it'll most likely be an iPhone for iMessage, support, and ease.
@@eviltoms Duo was just an option....WhatsApp is the ubiquitous messaging app today, NOT I message. Just had a friend asking if I'd received her message she'd sent....NOPE! Turned out shed sent it as a 'standard' message. When we looked into it, she used her iPhone 'Message' app (with a video) that had automatically converted it to an i-message... Result: I never got it. I've now told her to ALWAYS use WhatsApp so I'll ALWAYS get it! .....Sorted!!! 👌
Pixel 3 is my first not apple phone since iphone 1. I love it. not going back. all advantages apple had like better audio output..better call quality...way smoother performance... those are all but gone.
Samsung Galaxy phones have had these features for a long time even mid or low end Samsung phones have these features and Google the android maker is just catching up. No wonder so less people buys the pixel branded phones. Samsung Galaxy phones even allows one to adjust just the media volume by default or the call volume by default. Google Pixel isn't bad but it just doesn't justify its price it has far less features than Samsung Oneplus Sony or the competition but still costs more than them.
Really useful video, my Pixel 3 arrived 2 days ago, and it's such a great upgrade from my previous phone (Droid Turbo 2). Little smaller than I expected but felt the XL would be too unwieldy. This introduction to the main features was perfect.
I just switched over to a Pixel 3 from an iPhone 7+ today! It's pretty simple, the only two problems I ran across were transferring my WhatsApp chats (I used Wazzap Migrator), and transferring my photos (because I take photos in the HEIF format, which can't be copied over directly. I uploaded all my media onto Google Photos from my iPhone). Also, used Google Drive to back up my calendar and contacts.
Don't be nervous lol. I was a life time user of iPhones and switched because my boyfriend had just praised it and when I did, it was a bit of a change from Apple to Android... But it took no time in learning the new maneuvers and different buttons to press or hold but it wasn't all that difficult
My husband and I are switching from iPhones to the Pixel this week. Super nervous, but this video was so helpful! So many functions we wouldn’t have known about!! Thank you for saving us some frustrations and also for fueling the excitement! Video quality and content of this video is so great. I love how clearly you explain everything and the tone of voice you used. I feel like a good friend was walking me through my new phone. Not usually the way tech reviewers talk.
Switched from Sam 7 to iPhone 8+ recently and couldn't get it to do simple things...got Verizon to send me a replacement and still had same problems. Couldn't get it to bluetooth sync with my 4Runner and UA-cam would sometimes Lock up while I was using it for my background music/lyrics while singing with my sweetheart at gigs. She would be standing next to me using her Sam 7 and it would NEVER lockup for her. So switched today to this Pixel 3a and already love it more than any other phone I've owned. Your explanations here and good voice go a long way to make me know how to use this one. Thank you so much! Now to another of your Pixel 3 videos!
Thank you Thank you!!! I am not an electronic genius but I am also not an idiot. However these phone things change so fast it is impossible to keep up with them. Would you believe that 15 years ago I was installing and teaching high ranking federal court employees how how to use their cell phones? Today, I can't figure out how to use my own new one!! Wish they still had the old fashion manuals so us "reference" types could look up what we need, when we need it. Your video was a great start for understanding the basics. Hope to see more.
Been an Apple user since like 2009, finally making the switch to a Pixel 3 in a couple days and I'm so excited!!! It looks like it has WAY more features than iPhones do, and it looks nicer too!
My mom and I are switching from iphones to pixels this year, after poor experiences with the 6s and 7. I've had a Galaxy before, but she's never owned a droid. Pie is seeming remarkably similar to the latest ios's, but I'll be sending her this the day we get the new phones, and I promise you, she's going to love it. My sisters and I have made a /game/ of messing with her phone settings and seeing how long it takes her to figure them out- sometimes weeks! and thats on os's she's used to. This video is going to change the game for her ability to smoothly transition and comfortably use her new phone. Thank you so much!
Why does everyone throw shade at the pixel 3 and 3xl. I me and I understand the 3XL with the notch ,because I agree it's absolutely terrible but the phone is not as laggy and buggy as people say it is. Also with Android q beta 3 and the actual release soon, this phone is getting good and every other flagship android.I have the pixel 3 and I would say it's a very smooth phone. I don't have any problems with it but I took a risk and downloaded Android q beta 3.
I got the Oneplust 5T then Google pixel 2xl then Asus ROG phone then switched back to Oneplust 6t And now I bought a Google pixel 3. Can't let go of the camera and smoothness. Sure it gets buggy but Google updates frequently. Not looking forward to Pixel 4. I hate bottom speakers. Always been a fan of the front facing one.
I just got the the pixel today , very helpful video ... I was coming from iPhone and pretty lost on what to do first ... TY! I will be watching tips and tricks next!! Thanks!
Free opinion: Cons. No mirror or cast screen to a Smart TV as Samusg does. When purchase cable is only Type C in both ends. Pros: Apps open faster and no delays, fast rapidly charge, nice camera and good more features presented in the video. Score : 8/10
With a Chromecast you can screencast. Also, idk if this applies to the pixel 3, but my 1st Gen XL came with both usb's. I imagine they left the regular USB out as they threw in usb-c headphones this time around?!
No it's not, Pixel 3 is much smaller than the original Pixel XL: www.phonearena.com/phones/size#/phones/size/Google-Pixel-3,Google-Pixel-XL/phones/10932,10263
@@monkeyman78b He didn’t say screen, he just said “it’s” so you can’t assume, could mean anything. The USB-C port is the same size too lol. No one in this thread had said the word “screen” before you.
One more gesture with that home 'pill'. If you grab it and while holding it swipe right, you will get an app slider that you can scroll through the open apps and select the app you want to switch to.
I would also suggest enabling Lockdown mode. Once enabled, it will be available as a menu item with a long press of the power button, in the same place you mention the one finger screenshot method. This is useful when going through TSA security at an airport. By law, you have to unlock your phone if you have fingerprint authentication enabled. Lockdown mode only allows unlocking via PIN (no mention on the screen that fingerprint is even enabled), which TSA cannot ask for. Assuming you are using a mobile boarding pass, once the TSA agent verifies your boarding pass and license, put it in lockdown mode and throw it in your bag for the security screening, and your device will be secure from prying eyes.
I've always had the iPhone. iPhone 5-6s. After hearing about how apple slows down their phones so you're forced to buy a new one, I eagerly tried looking for a new phone. I was super skeptical about getting a Android phone because I got the Samsung S7 after I got the iPhone 6. I hated the S7. But, after my iPhone 6s, I got the Google pixel 2 phone and it was the best switch ever. So far I've had it for 5-6 months. Can't wait to get the pixel 3!!!

Some great "hand acting" in this video... When you say the name of the phone and then point at it at the same time..pure genius..!! The way you hold the earbuds in one hand and do your descriptive hand acting with the other... where did you learn that..??!!! I hope you dont mind but I may steal that from you its that good... And your "up-swiping" is amazing..flawless actually... I still cant decide on which phone to purchase ...I'm still leaning towards the Pixel... Plus I love saying "Pixel" Its cute right..?
OMG... thank you for this AWESOME video...after upgrading from Samsung S7, I almost returned the phone for an old Samsung 8, because I was so frustrated with the new features...today was day 14 to make the decision, but I also started to enjoy some new features and these quick tips get me to some things that I didn't know what they would do... I always seem to change something and later realize I didn't like it and couldn't' remember where to go and reverse the settings... so this is the best.. thank you again...
10:50 Use the swipe for notifications for a while and you will be hooked. I didn't think it would be useful, I now use it all the time if I'm in another app and want to just take a quick look at something that just came through.
To clarify changing the volume... if you don't have anything thing else happening just media volume will change but if you have active ringing, alarm, or cast playing and try to change the volume there will be 2 sliders that pop up and the volume will control the active sound first before your overall media volume. I have found this EXTREMELY useful with my Google Home devices. If they are playing music, I can just use my phone to lower the Home's volume from across the room since I'm more likely going to have my phone by me; it saves me from shouting or interrupting a conversation. It doesn't mess with my regular media volume on my phone :)
One thing I've noticed is that the volume controlled by volume buttons at home screen is actually ringer volume. Media is controlled when you're within apps, and call volume is controlled within a call. The gear visible at the volume adjustment pop-up can be tapped to view all four volume channels w/o having to go into settings.

Fingerprint Unlock: you should be aware that in a lot of cases you can be legally compelled to unlock your phone if you use fingerprint (or any other biometric). Sure it's handy, but from a legal point of view it's less secure than a strong passcode.
Maybe I just have tiny hands but I really wish that the fingerprint scanner was placed lower!! I have to shimmy my hand up every time and it's so inconvenient.
Another feature when you go to the recent apps page, pressing and holding the home button you can slide it to scroll through your recent apps! Not really useful to some but it's still nice to know

@John Go tru I was responding more to his comment in the video about not wanting to get the pixel 3 xl due to the notch. When he could've gotten the pixel 3 xl and just his the notch through developer options that way.
judging by videos I think it makes the forehead and chin basically the same size and also the curved edges are the same radius! I have seen many phones where if you disable the notch in settings the rounded edges at the top are a smaler radius than the edges at the bottom and that is so frustrating
I like that case. Anccer makes tight fitting rigid cases like this. Not the baggy, flimsy silicon cases. The rigid cases have a texture so the phone doesn't slip out of my hand. I like them.
I recently bought a Google pixel XL 3,,,And the only thing I really don't care for is when someone calls it's not loud... And u been trying to compare my ole mobile boom box to this new phone.which is UE mobile boom box...

Got my Pixel 3XL last weekend and it is much improved over the iphone 8+ and X. Pure Android is something to behold and yes the Pixel 3XL pictures just blow the socks off everyone I showed it to. I couldn't see what the big deal is with the notch - not as bad as people hype it to be. If you still hate it, just download Notcho Notch and it will elegantly hide it . The vast improvements in Pixel 3 with 9 Pie, camera, and software made the Pixel 3/3XL worth the switch over from the high-priced iPhones. Oh yeah, getting the 3XL for $500 over Black Friday also made it a no-brainer.

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm not being a hater, I currently own a Pixel XL and thinking of upgrading to a Pixel 3 XL but don't really enjoy the looks of it. The alternative would be the smaller version but I am used to the battery of the XL version, takes me through a day with no issue.
@@nathanael2814 Notice the clock in the top left and use that for your calculations. Based on the clock alone there were not many takes, as the clock stayed the same between cuts. Based on the time elapsed on the clock, the battery life is quite concerning.

It's funny how a lot of these "new features" are things that Samsung has been doing for years. They received a bunch of crap for stuffing too many features into their phones, but now other companies (notably Google and Apple) are taking those features and calling them novelties. That said, I'd really love one of these Pixel 3's!
You need to download Quick Settings (by Simone Sestito) and then Screen Recorder (by Kimcy929) and then those tiles should show up in your settings. Both apps are free.
I thought I would hate the notch, but within just a few minutes of setting up the device, I didn't even notice it. I've had the phone for a week now and so far the only time it got annoying, was when I was playing hungry shark and part of the game UI was obstructed by the notch. Disclaimer: I use a dark background (live earth) so those pixels are usually black and then most apps automatically black out those pixels too. So I haven't even bothered to go into developer settings and change it (since that would push the power and other notifications down). All that said, I still think they should just permanently black out those pixels and move the power notifications up there. Even if I don't notice it, that doesn't make it ok.
@@hurvee12 I've got an S7, should look into doing that, although I finally decided to make some room for the 8.0 update and my phone feels kind of new/snappier than before- definitely way more optimized than the previous version I was running. Lot of iphone wannabe 'movers' to Pixel/Android on this thread worried about losing Facetime etc...haven't you heard of WhatsApp or Duo which are multi-platform?
Whatsapp has been around forever and I cant understand why there are so many americans that have never heard of it
MogadishuMan FaceTime is built in though
@@Reprodestruxion ..... only in iPhones, no good unless ALL your friends are too. Mine are mixed users, so using WhatsApp makes much more sense.

Noticeably smaller than HTC 10
No way I am. Using the HTC 10 right now and this supposedly has a larger screen. The HTC 10 is already the perfect one handed size.
Also the same size as an iPhone 8 plus.

Best phone of 2018, thumps up if you agree
Thumps up
It's the worst phone of the year in 2018...

"this is going to sound weird, but...i've been using a case with this phone." lol wut
Really useful video, my Pixel 3 arrived 2 days ago, and it's such a great upgrade from my previous phone (Droid Turbo 2). Little smaller than I expected but felt the XL would be too unwieldy. This introduction to the main features was perfect.
I’ve only ever used iPhones but I’m changing to pixel 3! I’m actually nervous to switch😂
Just got it today and been using iPhones forever and I think it's one of the best decisions I've made
I just switched over to a Pixel 3 from an iPhone 7+ today!
GIRL SAME 😬 I’ve used iPhone for longer than I can even remember and I’m getting the pixel 3 on Tuesday! Sending smooth transition vibes your way 😉
It was my first Android too I loved it! I just hate the no headphone jack!
How is it so far?
Just got my pixel3 XL today and didn't even know they came with earbuds. Went back to the box and found them lol
This was extremely helpful. Pixel 3 is my first google phone and I had no idea where to find anything. Now I’m good to go.
I just picked up my Pixel 3 today. This video was very helpful. Thank you for making it.
Amanda Parks you won’t regret it. Amazing device and the instant software updates make it unbeatable for an inside-android ecosystem competitor
Bought mine yesterday, with the trade in of my iphone 8plus it was only about 500 $ for the pixel 3XL 😱
I got the Oneplust 5T then Google pixel 2xl then Asus ROG phone then switched back to Oneplust 6t
And now I bought a Google pixel 3.
Thanks!
I went to a Best buy and tried the iPhoneX S max and and the pixel 3...camera of the pixel is amazing..
Free opinion:
Cons.
It can cast to a smart tv
this small pixel 3 is like a mini version of last years pixel 2 XL
It's awesome
It's kinda funny since it's as big as the Pixel XL (2016).

You should talk about the "Lockdown" function!

@everyone complaining about the notch "You only hate it because everyone else does."
Yeah 😂😂
Maybe because it’s ugly
what is a notch? haha I really don't know.
Never bothered by it, it was a selling feature for me.
No. Everyone hates it cause its hideous. That's why I hate it. That's why other people hate it, thus inevitably becoming everyone hating it.
Maybe I'm just Samsung epic 4G old school...but I am really appreciating the stock Google experience. Smoothest phone I have ever owned.
Be aware broken screen is $276 to repair - making cost of ownership very high if you tend to break screens.
Not as high as Apple without Apple Care. I'll take this any day.
A case is like 60$ lol
OMG... thank you for this AWESOME video...after upgrading from Samsung S7, I almost returned the phone for an old Samsung 8, because I was so frustrated with the new features...today was day 14 to make the decision, but I also started to enjoy some new features and these quick tips get me to some things that I didn't know what they would do...
This phone is the one I'll get next year lol need to pay off that promotion on my Pixel XL 😆
ua-cam.com/video/oD4aB-tlUgI/v-deo.html

Why does this one look like a good size and overall looks really good compared to the XL?
Because it is. It's almost identical in size to the OG Pixel but the screen is about a half inch(?) bigger
Another feature when you go to the recent apps page, pressing and holding the home button you can slide it to scroll through your recent apps! Not really useful to some but it's still nice to know

Why not just get the 3xl and hide the notch in developer settings. Doing that makes it look like a bigger pixel 3 from what I've seen.
@John Go tru I was responding more to his comment in the video about not wanting to get the pixel 3 xl due to the notch. When he could've gotten the pixel 3 xl and just his the notch through developer options that way.
I think hiding notch makes phones forehead much larger which is not pleasant either.
I mean from what I've seen it looks like an exact replica of the pixel 2xl but to each their own I guess lol
judging by videos I think it makes the forehead and chin basically the same size
and also the curved edges are the same radius!
I just got the 3axl and didn't come with earbuds :/

It's funny how a lot of these "new features" are things that Samsung has been doing for years.

Any Notification LED there? like previous 2 models.
