  • Hi all - here's how I helped install a carport roof and guttering on my parents' bungalow project from back in January.
    The carport kit was bought from Wickes, but unfortunately, I can't find a link for it.
    I also mention this guttering video: • Installing Guttering &...

    Great video Vikki and very useful as my folks’ 40 year old carport roof has finally packed in recently and I’ve offered to pop down and install a new one for them. Some useful tips in your vid! A couple of observations - those fascia nails with the coloured heads are called polytops. And it wasn’t clear from the vid but when you fixed the corner fascia capping did you screw in just that front face or the 90 degree face as well? I believe it should be just one face to prevent it from cracking as it expands and contracts with the weather. I learnt this the hard way last summer!

    Great video - very helpful. Just one query at 1:50 - should the sealing tape used at the bottom of the sheet be a semi-permeable type, not foil tape? I thought it's supposed to allow the sheet to breath? Cheers!

    Great video, I need to extend an existing car port slightly for a bigger car the existing one used 10mm twinwall but for the extension I was planning on just using 4mm or 6mm twinwall thing is all the securing screws and caps Im seeing online seem to be designed for 10mm and upwards. Are there specific fixings screws/caps you'd recommend for thinner twinwall sheets?

    How do you address the sheet installation if they touch the brick on either side. Is there an edging kit supplied to prevent rain falling down against the wall and into the wooden beams from the edges?

    the foil tape only goes on the top edge for the polly carb as breather tape/ dust tape goes on the bottom edge as air needs to circulate

    Hi. At minute 4 you used rubber screw cover caps.
    I am finishing as well a polycarbonate roof and i want to use the same screw cover caps.
    My question is ... are good those screw cover caps ?
    I mean ... the water passed through those screw cover caps or not ?
    Thank you very much in advance.
    All my respect !

      Thank you. It's sad I'm not able to help my parents while they work on it - I've missed a lot of projects unfortunately, but with me having a food blog too, it's allowed me to work from home elsewhere and not put pressure on people still having to work.

    How about instead of the added soak away on the fence line, use driveway channel drainage to join up to the other down pipe on the corner of the bungalow? More groundwork maybe, but then that would also help with surface run off from the drive. Just an idea.

    • @sjcsystems
      @sjcsystems 3 роки тому

      That soak away will turn that border into a lagoon. But hooking up to drains is frowned on.

    I had a leak in the roof over my dining room, so i called a repairman to take a look at it. "When did you first notice the leak?" the repairman inquired. I said "Last night, when it took me two hours to finish my bloody soup"

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  4 роки тому +1

      No, because it's not a tiled roof, but check with your local planning officer. He recommended it to my Dad to put on the house during one of his regular visits.

    I've always fancied a carport but unsure how loud it would be in the rain. I usually find at least one innuendo in your videos but struggled in this one. I think the best one I could find was "who wants to get dripped on?" - well..... 😁

    Nice Video, Does the carport needed inspection after build?

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  3 роки тому

      As far as I'm aware, it does if it has roof tiles. The building inspector (my Dad's friend), recommended doing this with a UPVC porch as an easier option with less paperwork, but always check your local authority. Each one seems to differ!
