Glad I grew up in VA. Majority of the people I was around grew up in these places and it wasn’t foreign to see black people with nice houses and parents with good jobs.
I'm going to make the case for why the 757 is one of the best places to live in the U.S. 1.) Cost of living is average (not even close to as high as Northern Virginia/DC) 2.) It only takes 2 1/2 hours to get to DC and 1 hour to get to Richmond (depending on what part you're in) 3.) There are 7 cities that offer something a little different all in driving distance 4.) Busch Gardens and Water Country in Williamsburg 5.) Plenty of beaches 6.) Only a few hours drive west to some great mountain views 7.) Most of the cities in Hampton Roads are continuing to grow and offer more More higher paying jobs and entertainment (sports, nightlife) could be better but it's getting there.
@@Jcrow21 Williamsburg is right beside Newport News tho the airport is called Williamsburg Newport News airport so at least call it 8 I love it down there tho I’m from Richmond we set up like y’all with Petersburg Hopewell colonial heights tri cities then Richmond henrico chesterfield and Hanover all called Richmond cause it’s the metro area plus the other counties and stuff like Goochland Caroline dinwoddie and a bunch of other stuff all either called Richmond or Petersburg greater areas so I get it but down there don’t have that many counties in between even tho a country basically is a city in Virginia but just a random thought the water is beautiful down there tho
The 7 cities has a lot of potential for sure. A couple black colleges, low cost of living and military jobs. However, for black people I would say that the towns dont have much black cultural events compared to other major cities like DC, Atlanta or Charlotte. We need more of that for more affluent blacks to flock there. Lets not forget the racism expressed in VA Beach.
We call it 7 Cities because those are the main cities. This term came from the 90’s era and hip hop/the streets/the people…Williamsburg and Poquoson weren’t places Blackfolks thought that highly of, and they weren’t known for reppin. But they are apart of “Hampton Roads” which is the “formal” literal name of the metro. 7-5..7 Cities is a mentality and cultural identity …it came from us …
We love living in NoVA (Old Town Alexandria). Our AA population is steadily increasing and I'm loving it- Black success personified! We just welcomed new neighbors who are "kinfolk."
Was happy to see positive news about the 757!!!!! I help families in Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk and Norfolk qualify for mortgage protection plans. Everyone is always so nice, warm and welcoming and the neighborhoods are beautiful, just like in the video! I'm so proud of us and I tell them all the time!!!!!
We brought a nice renovated home next to a golf course and newly builded homes in Portsmouth. Our area is pretty quiet but some areas you have to avoid in Portsmouth. We are getting a casino and entertainment center up the street from our home.
Great 👍🏽 but stay woke because hopefully they won’t do like they did in Atlantic City. The casinos created jobs but forced a lot of Black communities out for land to build.

It’s wild I lived in all of these areas including Triangle. I’m so surprised that city got recognition because it’s only known if you’re from the area. This video made Virginia look beautiful. Anyone looking to move to Virginia, 757 area is great but stay out of Portsmouth 😂

There are areas that have well to do African Americans living in luxury homes. Also, Chesapeake is a city. It's not in a county. It used to be called Norfolk county, but then became a city.

Jamine Yarbrough come to Prince George's County I live in Bowie. Remember Bowie has its own city which means additional taxes outside of PG. The county does have some setbacks like any other cities but it's thriving, and moving forward but do your own research.
I love living in Prince George's County Maryland ... I live in Camp Springs and can travel North and South with ease...Easy access to three Airports. Access to the Auto train and my travel to Philadelphia and New York City is smooth by Amtrak (Union Station or New Carolton) or by car....

The concept that the City of Alexandria is different from Fairfax County is a source of confusion for many. The zip code, 22311, that you highlight in the video had an Alexandria, VA mailing address but is in Fairfax County. The pictures that you show are mostly of 22314 which is in the City of Alexandria, an independent city that is next to Fairfax County. Fairfax County has one million people. The City of Alexandria has around a 160,000 residents. Both Alexandria city and Fairfax County are diverse. Alexandria City, especially Old Town Alexandria which was depicted in the video have been gentrified and many black people have been displaced or have chosen to leave. There is a small black middle class that remains in the City. Everyone says they're from Alexandria but if you ask most people in what jurisdiction they pay their property tax or car tax they will state Fairfax County.
Agree re: very few blacks remaining in Alexandria proper. My grandparent's home is literally the only black owned residence on their street. The family home which has since been renovated has remained there for 50+ years. Our family is committed to make sure that it remains there for generations to come!

Stay out of Portsmouth, Virginia. It is a large African-American community but there is nothing much to do here. There are some good neighbors but not many. If you're a person who wants and desire greater things in life don't move here. I was born and raised in Portsmouth. Will move somewhere else as soon as I can. Back in the day Ptown used to be the bomb! A lot of African Americans have lost or relocated their businesses. Some parts of Chesapeake and Suffolk are very nice. Hampton is also but if you are considering moving to Virginia please check out the area really good. It's 2021 and there are still narrow minded & racist people. Purchasing a house is a big investment and relocating is work. You want to be in a place that you're able to live and grow.

757 raised lived all over tidewater Norfolk, va beach Chesapeake and Portsmouth. Live in Richmond now on the east end which is majority African American. Richmond is nice, you can get a bag here just mind your business and be respectful.

Given the criteria, zip codes 13224(Syracuse), 11510(Baldwin), 11575(Roosevelt), 11553(Uniondale), 11003(Elmont), 11580(Valley Stream), 11422(Rosedale, Queens), 11413(Springfield Gardens, Queens), 11411(Cambria Heights, Queens), 11429(Queens Village, Queens), 11412(St. Albany, Queens), 11436(Jamaica, Queens), 11798(Wyandanch, inc. 6 figure Wheatley Heights), 11701(Amityville), 11234(Flatlands, Brooklyn), 11238(Prospect Hts./Clinton Hill, Brooklyn), 10553(Mount Vernon), 10523(Elmsford)...I’ll stop there, but there are possibly others that fit or come close either way(black percentage and/or income) that could be listed as well. Keep in mind that Upstate NY cost of living is more in line with the popular Southern states or Midwest in overall cost of living. So, it isn’t expensive like NYC and the surrounding area. That 13224 zip code in Syracuse(East Side/a portion of DeWitt) is a sleeper in terms of income and educational attainment.
I must live in the wrong part of VA. Because all the jobs want to pay between 10 to 12 and then u have to hace petfect credit and 1200 to 1500 a month for a 1 bed room in a decent neighborhood
I felt out of place in Hampton Virginia when I rode a bicycle of mine throughout Hampton. HA! Education in Virginia is terrible. Rode past that train car.

Keep in mind that Upstate NY cost of living is more in line with the popular Southern states or Midwest in overall cost of living. So, it isn’t expensive like NYC and the surrounding area. That 13224 zip code in Syracuse(East Side/a portion of DeWitt) is a sleeper in terms of income and educational attainment.

I must live in the wrong part of VA. Because all the jobs want to pay between 10 to 12 and then u have to hace petfect credit and 1200 to 1500 a month for a 1 bed room in a decent neighborhood

I felt out of place in Hampton Virginia when I rode a bicycle of mine throughout Hampton. HA! Education in Virginia is terrible. Rode past that train car.
