I think you guys missed something with Philip. When he tells Naomi he saved her life he was talking about the Rosi. He knew his father planned on blowing it up and killing her, that's why he kidnapped her and brought her with him instead. I don't think Marco knows Philip knew and that is why he is pissed at Philip. The big belter guy probably told Philip about the "bomb" on the Rosi which made him take her with him to begin with. It's also why the big belter guy told Naomi she didn't know Philip or why he is doing what he did. This is how Naomi knew to warn Holden about it, it clicked to her when Philip told her he saved her life.
@@msannethr0pe Jep, I was confused. I don't get why they showed he had sense of childish humour which gave him a human side but in the end he was just the monster of the week. And my brain couldn't compute the actual action... how you can throw a person pressed into you chest two meters behind you. Where's the momentum, what would your arms actually do?
@@NikkiStevenReact It's a dessert invented by Auguste Escoffier, one of the most famous French chefs ever. He named it after an opera soprano Nellie Melba he was a fan of. It's peaches with vanilla ice cream and raspberry sauce. When he invented it in the late 1800 it was kind of an extravagant dessert considering how difficult it was to made ice-cream.
@@NikkiStevenReact Not as fun as giving a terrorist a nickname of a rare dessert made up of very different ingredients that work well separately but even better together? Yeah, that's not fun at all. She was working on the ship with Amos for almost 6 months and he gave her the chance to space herself. They have a special connection and a special nickname.
Philip was not protecting Naomi by removing her from the bridge, he did not notice the knife.... When he was talking about saving her, what he ment was by kidnaping her he made impossible for her to be on Roccie when the reactor would blow up edit: On the bridge of Azure Dragon (Marco's Ship) when Naomi enters it to try to kill Marco You can see on one of the main screens that they have video feed looking at Roccie docked at Tycho Station. I did not notice this at first
As for Amos' relationship with Clarissa, in the books they contracted Holden to take her back to Earth because Anna knew if anyone else did it she had a good chance of "mysteriosly falling out an airlock" on the trip back (since she murdered an entire ship of people) and everyone in the systems knows Holden is too much of a boy scout to let that happen simply by reputation. During the trip back Amos befriends her as they were both doing mechanic work on the Roci which is where he started calling her Peaches. In the show the closest you get is the scene from Ep 1 of season 4 where Clarissa is calling Amos from prison because she doesn't have anyone else to talk to. They are also explicitly NOT in any kind of sexual relationship, their connection is more about how they relate to each other since they both think they are monsters for the actions they've taken in their lives.
38:25 - The guard didn't slip. Amos picks up the guard's gun and checks the ammo counter, it had 0 shots left. Guard ran out of bullets, wasn't useful anymore and so Tiny improved his odds.
@@warrenford2597 he could have set off with the remaining warden, though I presume if he was killed in the book (I’ve no idea) that would have been a change for no payoff for the series.
I think it's safe to guess that they gave the Roci a through shakedown for obvious sabotage before deciding to set out, which is why adding Naomi's code to the reactor startup sequence is so insidious. Nobody knows the Roci's computer systems like Naomi, and the virus would go unnoticed to anybody else.
When Filip told Naomi he saved her life is the moment she realized that he was referring to the Rocinante along with the way the belter girl told Holden I see you when you get back. It all adds up! Amos and peaches I believe are in for rough road. All those people that didn't die from impact are too because the impact of those rocks are going to cause major food and clean water shortages. Great reaction, can't wait for the next one!
Honestly I thought Filip meant he saved Naomi from getting instantly murdered when she would've killed Marco because I thought he knew she was about to make her move and maybe he's waiting for his own moment.
Also when Naomi grabbed the knife in the kitchen that other lady told Naomi that they had planned on "reminding her" about that self destruct code they used back in the day. So it seems that what Phillip said made her connect the dots.
I totally didn't catch all the references they were throwing at Naomi the first time I watched, but when I watched this reaction, I noticed 3 references to the Roci being sabotaged and I was like "Wow, they were just spellin' it RIGHT OUT over and over! How did I miss this?? They might as well have just kept winking at her!" xD I did, however, think about how that belter spy was the one overseeing maintenance on the Roci and thought, "Uhm, I don't think I'd trust her work." Didn't think specifically about Naomi's code being the sabotage though.
I loved the way how the writers brought back that "undetectable code" that naomi built. It was a really smart move to use it on the Rocci. Marco is a twisted genius.
I can understand their anger, I mean the actual ring gate was created from the material of mostly belt citizens from Eros Station, that atrocity was committed by an Earth firm. Then you have the battle above Ganymede station that severely damaged the base and the "bread basket" of the outers. This is not including the decades of being treated like 3rd class citizens from Earth and Mars.
Thank you. People who have never been oppressed, discriminated against, and exploited do not have an inkling of what that is like. They expect marginalized people to "protest quietly" or take being mistreated and "just get over it." NOPE. Not condoning what Marcos did, but pretending Earth and Mars didn't mistreat the belters - as you pointed out - for generations?!? Whatever. People get tired of being oppressed. Oh, someone commented on the previous episode something like "just because people are oppressed doesn't make them good." Well, people who DO the oppressing sure as hell ain't good either.
@@EyeOnSciFiPod Being oppressed doesn't make people good, but it does make them angry. We saw a touch of that when a ship of Ganymede refugees spaced their group of Inners. The arrogance of oppressors lies in thinking they will eternally have the upper hand. At no time did any Inner officials, including Avasarala and Gao, ever display contriteness for causing Belter deaths. There was no indication that Fred Johnson's efforts or Ashford's magnanimity had any effect on Inner oppressive policies toward Belters. In terms of proportionality, the millions killed on Earth out of its billions (according to what we've seen so far in the show) is proportional to the hundred thousand killed on Eros, the thousands killed on Ganymede, and the Belt-wide starvation caused by the loss of Ganymede among the millions of Belters. It would certainly seem that way to Belters.
I'm excited that Steven made the connection back to Avarsarela's explanation to her grandson about "people throwing rocks." I would love to see more people see that.
It appears to be the new WMD of the future in The Expanse. Makes sense when you consider that dropping a 7 metre block of pure tungsten from low orbit has more impact kinetic impact force than the energy released by both Fat Man and Little Boy combined. The Russians were planning to do it to the Americans during the Cold War. Google "Teardrop Initiative".
@@robert04872the Americans had their own version of that plan, research Project Thor, which involved dropping tungsten crowbars from LEO, which could be targeted.
Whatever betrayal might occur in Drummer's crew will be something engendered by actions in the future. There is clearly going to be some division over how they should react to Marco's invitation. Will that amount to mutiny or betrayal?
I am pretty sure when Filip said he saved his mothers life. He was referring to kidnapping her... and keeping her from going back to the rocci and getting killed. Ironically with the reactor boom code she gave Marco years ago. Marco probably enjoyed the Irony and it seems to me his Son might have not been down with killing the mother he never met with his fathers sick ironic twist revenge plot. So ya he kidnapped her... thus saving her life. (and ultimately saving Holden as well)
Amos gives everyone he doesn't like a nickname they don't like. (See: "Morty" & "Tiny".) It's how he pokes them to see how they react to the disrespect. That he later learned to like Peaches from seeing himself in her came after that... now it's an affectionate pet name.
@@SingWhileYouMay Been thinking more about it. Seems to me, he uses nicknames to see how others react, or to try to make them react, so he can see how to classify them, mentally. That's most useful with potential/likely enemies.
Peaches is a reference to her chosen cover name, Melba. There's a dessert called peach melba. He definitely uses it affectionately, but it's also poking at her for her initial deception.
The conversation about the continued impact from the asteroid hits kinda reminded me of that conversation Amos and Prax had about the cascade. As Amos simplified, "It's not the thing that breaks you that you need to watch out for."
Everyone in the Roci crew are so fucked all at the same time. The roci sabotage, the supply frigates after Bobby & Alex. Amos and Melba crawling out the rubble. Naomi captured trying to warn Holden. This season is coming closer to topping my all-time favorite season 3 right now. I didnt think they could do it. LETS GO!!!!!
Yes... this has been explained over and over again. Even back in Season 3 when he first started to call her that. Seems like they need to pay better attention to the comments. ;)
The only references I ever had for the name "Melba" were Peach Melba (an ice cream dessert) and Melba Toast (crust-tops of bread toasted to extremes, basically a precursor to biscotti). It turns out both were created in honor of a famous Victorian-era operatic soprano name of Nellie Melba. Amos, of all people, has no problem with people reinventing themselves, so letting his friend be someone other than the unloved second-banana daughter of an infamous quadrillionaire was something he'd have been on board with. She'd used Melba as an alias, so for nicknames, there were 3 options: Mel, Peaches, and Toasty. I approve of his choice more than I would the others.
@@TheDetailsMatter I only very vaguely remember a reference to "peaches melba" from a brother in law who is a chef. It's just about the most "in" reference anyone can make, ever.
Notice that almost every time Marco speaks he's trying to manipulate someone. Everything he was doing with Naomi in the messhall, and his conversation with Fillip afterwards was an attempt to make Fillip resent her. Marco's trying to humilate and ashame his son, and doing it in a way that Filip blames Naomi for it. When Filip said he saved Naomi's life, he was referring to when he kidnapped her. Marco planned for her to die on the Roci, and Filip knew about it. That's why he took her.
Nah, I think we can take for granted that they would've checked for sabotage, but Naomi's code is hard to detect so they basically missed it in all the chaos.
Marco inviting Drummer seems suspicious. He knows Drummer worked for Fred, he knows she worked with Ashford, when Ashford and her captured Marco she said "I'm a friend of Naomi Nagata and there's only one way you're leaving" so he knows about the relationship between them. That invitation smells like a huge trap.
However, Marco also knows that Drummer's vote freed him. His narcissism would cause him to believe he had connected with her. Either way, he needs to get all faction leaders under his control...he surely sent the same invitation to all the faction leaders. He knows that his attack on both Earth and Mars has put all Belters in a "we must all hang together or we will certainly hang separately" situation. That was part of his plan.
Or, he wants all the Belters who might try to move against him together in one place so he could take them all out at once if he couldn't convert them.
Drummer's crew's mission isn't to capture Marco and free Naomi. They already decided against capturing Marco and Drummer doesnt know about Naomi, yet. Maybe, once they arrive at the Pella, they'll decide on a different course of action than just a Belter meetup.
Racism breeds racism. Belters on the show frequently complain that the Inners see them all the same, yet repeatedly view all Inners the same and feel the need to specify "Good for an Earther" etc. Its a sad thing.
Which is what makes the show great sci-fi as it just expounds upon literally the entirety of human existence and how we consistently divide against ourselves over and over again.....
I see what you're saying but I don't feel like it's the same, In terms of where their (as you call it) "racism" stems from. The belters view of earthers comes from oppression where as earth's view doesn't. It comes from a place of power, looking down on belters. There's a difference (in my opinion at least).
Naomi has only told drummer exactly how her code was used to destroy the Augustin Gamarra, and as its a Trojan horse it doesn't show up and i doubt the Belter engineer actually would of bothered to do actual literal sabotage to the Roci if the end game was to destroy it by using Naomi's code as anything else could of been found before hand and tipped freds loyal belters or Holden that someone on the Roci refit crew was a traitor.
Dumping core just vents the reactor's contents through the engine. If the reactor isn't damaged, they'll be able to restart it if they have fuel left. It does look like they caught some debris at the end, though, so who knows.
Being a ultra lightweight racing pinnace owned and maintained aboard the Mao’s families yacht the guan, I’m pretty sure the Razorback would only have carried just the 1 fuel pellet. :( where as warships like the roci were designed to carry reserve fuel pellets for combat reasons, similar to when they were stuck in orbit around ilus.
@@syngyne fuel and reaction mass are 2 different things. If each pulse was a fuel pellet.. then the ship wouldn’t be able to move as it would need to full every square inch of internal space to even get to the moon. 1 pellet can produce enough reaction mass to be contained inside an electromagnetic core and the pulses that you’re referring to is small quantities of that plasma being squeezed and ionised and accelerated out the nozzle, it’s an efficient method to gaining thrust in a zero G environment. It increases your ISP.
37:35. Filip's little barb about saving Naomi's life had nothing to do with her stolen kitchen utensil. He said she should be glad he took her, not stopped her. He was making an oblique reference to the sabotage of Rocinante's main drive. It made Naomi question why kidnapping her saved her life, and thankfully, she worked it out in time.
I get the vibe from this episode that Philip is more of a hostage of sorts to his father, and he took his mother to keep her close so she would be safe from Marco. I could be way off, but that is all I could think of after watching his interactions with both parents. I think he is more like his mother, but is trapped with his father. The expanse makes us feel a certain way about a character, and then pulls the rug out from under us. We never know what to expect from any new character. I think the actor for Philip did an amazing job. It's like he has been psychologically abused his whole life and is just trying to survive in his small controlled environment. This episode made me realize how much I love Holden after coming so close to almost losing him.
Its soooo much better in the books. But alas they decided to alter so much of Marco to make him much less strategic in the show. Ahh well, at least the actor that plays him is good.
@@jrich749 I've never been a bookworm unfortunately. This is my all time favorite show, and I do find myself wanting to explore more of this world and characters. I think i will read the books once the show is over. I would ask if I'm right about Philip but I dont want to spoil it. The actor for Marco is phenomenal. I def want to know more of that character's backstory.
Drummer or any other Belta cant take Marco out, As Ashford said in S4E10, You take revenge and then their family will come after you. She need to show him kindness and then remove him from power
When Filip allowed the death of his friend, 'twas because he understood the physics of the situation and knew that if Cyn went to the rescue he would die as well. However, he knows that there is a difference between the laws of physics and the laws of psychology.
I have a feeling that drummer is gonna tell Phillip why his mother left. Cause if I remember correctly, Naomi told drummer the story in a earlier season.
Edit: In short, the tv show doesn't seem to do enough in regards to how Holden didn't seem worried about sabotage (that will certainly be addressed in the next episode). The book did better so I was surprised at how the tv show has him get on the Rocci so easily after such a poorly veiled threat by Sakai. zach's comments can be ignored, his statements are wrong. Also, while his explanation on how the Rocci was sabotaged is correct, the source of that explanation is ultimately from the book. Oh, and you can also ignore my back and forth with him, it was long-winded even by my own standards, and ultimately unproductive. As for Holden not realizing the Rocci was sabotaged, I was surprised they didn't do more to address that this episode. I forget exactly how they handled it in the book, but I remember them running through a ton of diagnostic checks that wouldn't normally be done. I believe Naomi's hack was just made well enough that it avoids detection with even thorough checks. There might have even been some sabotage done that was easier to locate, which threw off the trail from the hack. As for why less attention was placed on this, well, it made good reading but I can't see how they would have made it enjoyable tv. And there were checks being run, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten Naomi's call before the Rocci blew up. So they'll probably mention in the next episode that they had been paying attention to who betrayed Fred, and that they were being careful due to that. They'll also mention that they didn't have a way to check for the specific code inserted onto the Rocci. Still, as it is, it does feel like a plot hole right?
My head canon is "Naomi is very smart. Her code is very good. The code is a passive code and just resides there as part of the operating system. Once the operating system starts up, you get a failure. You don't know there is a problem until there is a problem, hence why so many died on the Moon. There is an Easter Egg for this when Naomi talks about how good she is at breaking things on one of the earlier episodes. Thank God she didnt want to be a terrorist. As for Sakai, she knew it didnt matter where she was because once the Roci blows up, it would have Taycho station with it.
@@zachcreaghcoen2389 Ok, I must have missed that in the show. Do you recall which episode it was mentioned on that the code is undetectable? Not that I think it wasn't, I'm just wondering how I missed that. Whether it was one sentence, or during an emotional scene where it was easy to not focus on such info.
@@Dan_Jacob it was when Naomi was telling Holden about her time with Marco and what happened on the Augusta gamaara. The code was meant to disable reactors and make it look like a malfunction so they could come and “fix” it in return for money. But Marco just made it blow up the reactor on start up instead. Making it look like an accident
@@zachcreaghcoen2389 That's interesting, because in the tv show, season 5 episode 1 is the first time she even mentions that Marco is the father, and she doesn't mention anything about the hack. So based off of what you said, it looks like you're just talking about the book. In the tv show, Naomi doesn't tell Holden about the hack. So for those who have watched the tv show, but not read the book, when they see Holden on the ship preparing to start it up, it looks like a plot hole. Thinking about this further, I'm 100% certain this will be quickly addressed in the next episode. And that's fine, I guess. Not my favorite plot point, but whatever. Anyway, back to your assertion. If you still think that this was actually addressed on the tv show itself, please, list the episode and at least a rough estimate of the time it was mentioned. I no longer have the faintest faith in your ability to do so, but prove me wrong if you can.
Alex cant stop now . There is no air resistance in space so unless someone notice them somehow (which is super hard since they dont have a core) they are doomed to fly forever
Dumping core only ejects the active fuel pellet that's used to feed the fusion reaction, without damage to the ship. Inside the engine/reactor, this reaction is contained in magnetic fields and all active reaction mass is just flushed into space when they "dump core". It apparently takes a while before the reactor can be rebooted, but they can, as long as they have more fuel pellets. You can see these pellets being loaded into the Roci's reactor and failing, in season 4, when the Ilus planet defenses block all nuclear reactions.
As just answered, it apparently only ejects the reaction gases/mass, not the actual reactor. So if you still have the fuel etc you can go though a (lengthy?) restart procedure. Ty mentioned that in the The Expanse Aftershow you can find on UA-cam on the Amazon prime channel. They are really interesting to watch in general, but even if you don't have time the explanation is pretty much at the start of the Aftershow
Being a ultra lightweight racing pinnace owned and maintained aboard the Mao’s families yacht the guan, I’m pretty sure the Razorback would only have carried just the 1 fuel pellet, I mean coming from an engineering perspective.. if it’s a racing pinnace anything non necessary is stripped from the vessel. :( where as warships like the roci were designed to carry reserve fuel pellets for combat reasons, similar to when they were stuck in orbit around ilus.
29:40 "Are they gonna be able to go any where now?" The problem isn't "going" because they are already moving in a direction... they had been accelerating very hard for a while. The problem is they'll keep going in a straight line and not be able to slow or stop. Inertia combined with lack of friction in space...
It's always fun to see actors that you love from one show end up in another. Tiny is played by the same dude that plays Boomtown in Letterkenny, and is even funnier in that show
P.s. I love "watching" the show with y'all especially during these COVID-19 times when watching with a group isn't an option. Y'all are hilarious and react exactly how I do when stuff goes down! Thanks for making this channel and being yourselves. :)
25:58 “Splat, bītch!” was freaking COMEDY GOLD!! 🤣👏👏👏🙌 nice one, Nikki!! That’s going down on my list of great lines of yours & im gonna think about it every time a villain/character in a show or movie falls to their death 🤣
Well, I don't remember they gave explanation about Peaches in the books, either (in the show he mentions it in S04E01, in the books in book 5)... But, Peaches, Tiny, Morti (Murphy... ), Chrissie... it's just how Amos is... But you can tell how he feels about someone by nickname he gives... 😀 Btw, those nicknames are mostly only Amos allowed or tolerated (depends who is other person). They probably surprised many about Fred and Sakai. Especially, in the books Fred lives (one more book), and Sakai (that's male character there, if I remember now correctly), and is not on Marco's side (or is? - but I think not). You can see how Naomi is desperate to reach to Holden (because she already figured out about Roci when Filip told about "saving her" - he knows about code on Roci, that's what saving means - for her it's more about Holden than about her life) that she does what she never does - takes a weapon (knife) to kill Marco. And, of course, because she sees which kind of monster Marco is. And she does it willingly. That with Diogo was self defense situation, and she didn't use weapons. About Holden not figuring out... well they done Sakai very smart, so they even couldn't crack her terminal. So, they probably checked everything on the Roci before engine start (offscreen), and didn't find anything suspicious. So, I think he thought about this for sure. If he had Naomi there, she would figure out something, because she is the smartest one in tech stuff. Alex did some course correction before damping the core, and they accelerated pretty much, so they have decent but constant speed (just no artificial gravity inside the ship). They can reach very far. They just need assistance to stop. Their current course is at most close to asteroids acceleration Marco done. And if there is any big object on their way for gravity assisted acceleration, this would be even slingshooting. Well "the juice" is what keeps their body (we had this established in S01E01). I think they are not on an island. They are on the shore, for sure. Chesapeak Park - If my USA geography is right, this is Virginia. But with sea levels up, we saw in the season 1 some Canadian areas become islands. So, maybe. However, they showed us just coast and forest behind in the last episode.
I was rewatching Avengers Endgame yesterday, and the point at which Hulk, Rocket, and War Machine were buried and drowning in the compounds sub-basement suddenly made me consider how insanely lucky were Amos, Peaches, and all the rest, 10 levels underground in a concrete hole with a compromised foundation sitting right next to a lake. Just one more thing they really didn't need to be dealing with.
Hey guys the Amazon Prime post-show program here on UA-cam, Ty Franck said that the ship dumped its fusion reaction (ball of contained fusion energy) NOT the drive.
I love how the expanse tackle the fact that if we do achieve interplanetary travel and are able to take humanity outside earth, those generations established off earth will slowly and slowly forget about "oh we all came from earth, that is our origin our home" incredible show bruh, the best sci fi in a long long time, this and raised by wolves
Steven, I still remember trying to get you guys to watch the show, so glad you have. The intensity STILL continues to ramp up, it's so fucking good. I hope we see Dawes again at some point and I'm really looking forward to Drummer/Marco. This shows amazing.
I saw some documentary about what if an asteroid hit the earth and its aftermath. One of the things I remember is before it hits the heat from it is so intense that the flames are purple and and burns up anything within a certain distance (don’t remember how much) then where ever the asteroid hit that section of the ocean turns to something that’s close to the consistency of battery acid.
I feel like they are trying to show how important each character is in the bigger picture, it's going to take all of them in the positions they are in to overcome marcos plans!?!?!?
This episode was so freaking GOOOOD. I loved every part of it. My only problem was why didn't it occur to Holden or Bull that Sakai could have sabotaged the Roci? That's the first that came to my mind. Also, I think Karal from Naomi old crew is either jealous of Naomi or hurt that she left them; but I agree with Nikki, I want to kick her ass🥊 everytime she disrespects our girl. I'm already counting down the days to the next episode😌
Also, I think when Filip said he saved Naomi's life, it was because he knew about the sabotage of the Roci and if she had gone back instead of being kidnapped, she'd be killed when it went off.
Peaches was a pun off of Clarissa's fake name "Melba" (google recipe for Peach Melba). Amos always gives everybody nicknames, like "Tiny" lol. There was also that video call between Amos and Peaches at the beginning of season 4.
Did you catch the Naomi background history piece? How did Naomi know about the virus? Simple, she originally created the virus back in the day for Marco and used it to destroy a ship and passangers. After that, she left him. (from the book)
Great reaction, another fantastic episode! They like to change the names of people or things in this show and the books to mark major character changes after major trauma or as Amos would say "the churn" Timmy - Amos Clarissa - Melba - Peaches Miller - Investigator Navoo - Behemoth - Medina Knuckles - Naomi And of course Marty/Monty/Murty finally become Murtry!😜
I think Phillip saying he saved Naomi's life was referring to him taking her originally so she didn't go back to Tycho and the Roci which was set to explode using the code Naomi wrote for the Augustin Gamarra. It may have referred to the knife/Marco plan though.
In the reactor the core is a ball of plasma, super hot gas held together by a magnetic bottle.... To get the core back means a restart of the reactor - Assuming dumping the core didn't cause damage which means the reactor is a nuke... Until they restart they wil have no power to warn Avasarla!!!!!!!
In season 3 she was introduced as a Melba. He calls her Peaches because of this.... Peach Melba is a dessert of peaches and raspberry sauce with vanilla ice cream. It was invented in 1892 or 1893 by the French chef Auguste Escoffier at the Savoy Hotel, London, to honour the Australian soprano Nellie Melba
As a small defense for Holden, the Roci was probably worked on by potentially dozens of people, not just Sakai, and everyone was vetted by Fred (doubly so since he was signing off the bills). Plus, with the way the Martian tech is, any physical flaws or obvious problems would have shown up on the screens as a "hey, this isn't good" message. Only something subtle could have slipped through, and now that they know Sakai is a traitor, everyone else who worked with her is immediately suspect.
Yeah, if the Roci had blown up as intended it would have taken most of Tycho with it. Sakai was already dead in her mind. For what it's worth, in the book, they did check the Roci for sabotage but it was so well hidden they missed it. As far as the big picture, the whole Martian black market story, and Sauveterre's speech, all play out in a big, Expanse-style way. Someone high up in the MCRN has been pulling strings to make this happen, so you gotta ask yourself, what would they have to gain? Also, we've seen their name on the show, season 4, episode 10.
The guard did not slip. It's really subtle, but you can see that Amos checks the magazine of the guard's gun, and it's empty, so basically he had outlived his usefulness to Tiny
I think when Filip said he saved her, he was talking about the Roci's reactor to being rigged to blow. He didn't take the knife from her. Either he doesn't think she'll try using it again or he didn't see it. And Naomi realizes he's talking about saving her in regard to taking her. "You should be thankful I took you. I saved your life." This is when I think she realizes the Roci is in danger. Then she immediately tries to contact Holden about it. I think everyone on the Pella knew her ship was rigged to blow up. The belter lady brings up the code and asks if she's still mad about it and how she thought they'd be refreshing her memory. And Marco compares Filip's actions of bringing Naomi here to leaving that man behind on the first mission. He talks about knowing when to make sacrifices for the good of the mission.
The code must have been undetectable even with sophisticated futuristic antivirus software. Ty mentioned in his aftershow that dumping the core meant jettisoning the plasma so they'll be able to restart the reactor, but it will take some time.
You guys are the best! I love watching an episode of my favorite shows and then watching your reactions. Plus, you're adorable! Thank you for your reactions.
Things I have learned from watching The Expanse: Never stand under an elevator. I know people who I cannot recommend this show to because they'd never go into an elevator again.
So far this season is progressing pretty much how I expected...just one episode behind how I thought everything would play out. And it's still fucking incredible. Take notes Game of Thrones.
Peaches Melba is a dessert, she used the pseudonym Melba Koh. I think it's also a way for him/her to reject parts of her Mao identity in ways (although not all of it) and respect her as Melba, who was a talented engineer by any metric and not defined by her relationship to Mao.
at 37:30 when he said he saved her life, he didnt know about the knife. If you watch the screens around marco before, one of them had the Roci on it. He saved her life, because if she was on the roci she would of died with them if it blew.
So now ya know who's supplying Marco Inaros. From a faction in the MCRN that wants to get paid!! Martian tech. That's going to be hard to beat. Things seem to be bad. You know, the audiobooks of the Expanse really fill in the details about the series. I am just praying that Amazon let James S A Corey complete the entire series of books on Amazon Prime. Before The Expanse got really popular they had the audiobooks free on UA-cam. There are even Short Story Novellas, on Amos, Cotazar the protomolecule scientist, And the mysterious ring gate where ships go through and never return. I like your reaction to this novel set to streaming service, BUT this is light stuff compared to what's coming up.
I love Amos so much and i need the next episode i need to know if bobby and Alex are ok that whole scene made me so tense great reaction you guys love your faces also deuces tiny lol
I don't think Philip caught the knife of Naomi. Remember, Naomi doesn't know the engineer on Tyco was the one that betrayed things, she just knows Fred is dead and the protomolecule is stolen. Naomi works out the threat to the Rocinate from two clues. The one is the confrontation in the mess hall where her former friend asks if the reason she got so upset about things originally was the ship that used Naomi's code that Marco blew up way back when. And then she said something like she though they'd remind Naomi of that. And then when Philip said he "saved her" he was talking about taking her with him rather than letting her go back to Tyco/Rocinate. These were the two clues that let Naomi work out the threat to the Rocinate from far away. As for why Holden didn't know, I'm not sure, that seemed hard to believe. I'd have thought everything would be considered suspect (Tyco station, the Rocinate, anything). I'd have expected Sakai to have left a lot of back doors in everything either to help her escape if needed, or to help her or Marcos come back later. Destroying the Rocinate was one possibility, but I thought more likely she'd have some sort of "kill command" that would power it down and let Marco and the free navy conquer it should they ever come in conflict. But that was before I knew the free navy was getting a full supply of fresh Martian ships (although who knows if Mars - or at least the parts of Mars working with Marcos - might not have their own booby traps/kill commands or other ways to dispose of the free navy when it becomes convenient).
One thing is for certain Earthers face extinction either by starvation or Marko deciding to put them out of their misery fast. Unless Inaros is beaten and Earthers leave Earth for good to live in the ring worlds. The only possible homes for Earthers and probably Martians as well from now on.
Message to Naomi. That is why you tell each other about thing you did, so that when your lover take his ship hunting he know he need to check the reactor software. Just tell a Belta doc orbiting a planet far far away doesn't count

How have you two NOT done 'Firefly' yet? It's one of the best scifi series ever made!

Clarissa was going by the name "Melba."
There's a dessert called "Peach Melba."
Amos likes nicknames.
Hence: "Peaches."
Never heard of that dessert. That’s not as fun. Ha!!
@@NikkiStevenReact Peach Melba is actually quite delicious. I've been craving it for weeks for some reason. Can't imagine why.
Oooh!
@@NikkiStevenReact Not as fun as giving a terrorist a nickname of a rare dessert made up of very different ingredients that work well separately but even better together? Yeah, that's not fun at all. Philip was not protecting Naomi by removing her from the bridge, he did not notice the knife.... When he was talking about saving her, what he ment was by kidnaping her he made impossible for her to be on Roccie when the reactor would blow up
edit:
On the bridge of Azure Dragon (Marco's Ship) when Naomi enters it to try to kill Marco You can see on one of the main screens that they have video feed looking at Roccie docked at Tycho Station. I did not notice this at first
great point! i didn't pick that up when i watched it
and that was the clue that tipped her off that the Roci might be sabotaged, which led her to whacking Cyn with a wrench.
@@rzlittle That and the Roci was being displayed on one of the screens in the bridge.
marco's ship is called the "pella"
@@woutervanthienen9765 Yeah right, it's called Pella in the show, but in the books it was Azure Dragon from what I remember... but yeah my mistake

@Alex Smith I'm just going off what Ty Franke said, he us one of the authors.

There's also "Red" the priest lady from the other seasons. He also calls Naomi "Boss".
@@faolon9343 Right. Pet names for all. And let's not forget he's the only person who calls Avasarala "Chrissy". 😂
I'm sure he already liked her when he first called her Peaches. If he didn't, his nickname for her would be Toast.
When Clarissa worked as the technician for Savage Industries she was known under a false identity of Melba Koh. Therefore Peach Melba - Peaches.....
Yes... this has been explained over and over again. Even back in Season 3 when he first started to call her that. Seems like they need to pay better attention to the comments. ;)
I've never heard of Peach Melba before so didn't even see the connection until now, thank you :)
I feel like holden mind was every were else that he didn't register she worked on the ship.
Nikki: "I fuckin love this guy"
Amos: "IT'S JOHN CENA"
Drummer's crew's mission isn't to capture Marco and free Naomi. They already decided against capturing Marco and Drummer doesnt know about Naomi, yet. Maybe, once they arrive at the Pella, they'll decide on a different course of action than just a Belter meetup.
Well now we know that prison guards don't bounce.
Tiny, otoh, bounced at least twice on the way down.
All we know is that that particular guard didn't bounce. Needs more reasearch.

Yeah, season 4 was not my favorite. Got stuck on the belter planet too long. But this is good.

@@APMo2 Not sure if you're joking, but whenever they show the reactor status in the Razorback, every time it pulses, that's a fuel pellet being fused.

Fred's death in the books was just as sudden yet even more impactful.

We have been told that the code is undetectable and they were running a ship diagnostics during the scene
Btw, those nicknames are mostly only Amos allowed or tolerated (depends who is other person).
You can't take the Razorback. It's gone and gone and gone.
I think Philip's comment about saving Naomi was about taking her off the Rosi since they knew it was gonna blow up...
I feel like they are trying to show how important each character is in the bigger picture, it's going to take all of them in the positions they are in to overcome marcos plans!?!?!?
The rapid change in Nikki's opinion of "Tiny" on the roof was EPIC! LOL "Bye Tiny....splaaat....bitch" HAHAHAHA
We need to get you guys into a centrifuge someday so you know what these g-forces feel like :)
The memorial to the destroyed ship appears as a hologram, on the Moon, when Amos first arrives.
Great reaction, another fantastic episode!
They like to change the names of people or things in this show and the books to mark major character changes after major trauma or as Amos would say "the churn"
Timmy - Amos
Clarissa - Melba - Peaches
Miller - Investigator
Navoo - Behemoth - Medina
Knuckles - Naomi
And of course
Marty/Monty/Murty finally become Murtry!😜
I think Phillip saying he saved Naomi's life was referring to him taking her originally so she didn't go back to Tycho and the Roci which was set to explode using the code Naomi wrote for the Augustin Gamarra. It may have referred to the knife/Marco plan though.
In the reactor the core is a ball of plasma, super hot gas held together by a magnetic bottle....
To get the core back means a restart of the reactor - Assuming dumping the core didn't cause damage which means the reactor is a nuke... Until they restart they wil have no power to warn Avasarla!!!!!!!
they probably checked the roci but you normaly dont think of your fusion drive being hacked
Drummer is going to get her entire crew killed, then end up in a cell with Naomi. They'll work together until Prince Charming of Space arrives.
Only something subtle could have slipped through, and now that they know Sakai is a traitor, everyone else who worked with her is immediately suspect.
that guy got splatted from the fall and then crushed by an elevator... that's a hell of a way to go.
Now he is real tiny, you guys crack me up 😂
Melba. Peach Melba. Peaches.
That prison on the shoreline obviously drilled way below sea level. Lucky it didn’t flood.
The guard did not slip. It's really subtle, but you can see that Amos checks the magazine of the guard's gun, and it's empty, so basically he had outlived his usefulness to Tiny
Drummer can't meet Marco under a flag of truce and then try to kill him. Her name is "Drummer" not "Frey".
If I'm not mistaken the book explains (or Amos says this) that Melba is variety of peach. So Amos started calling her Peaches.
Spot on predict "he might have to hulk his way out" 😂
You guys are the best! I love watching an episode of my favorite shows and then watching your reactions. Plus, you're adorable! Thank you for your reactions.
Things I have learned from watching The Expanse: Never stand under an elevator. I know people who I cannot recommend this show to because they'd never go into an elevator again.
When someone silently moves behind you, watch out!
She may be emotional but she may also be able to save Naomi if she finds out Marcos has her
Hi Steven. Hello Nikki. Was waiting for this reaction. Great job. Happy new year lovely couple.
Happy new year!!
So far this season is progressing pretty much how I expected...just one episode behind how I thought everything would play out.
And it's still fucking incredible.
Take notes Game of Thrones.
Amos probably has this nickname habit because of him having to turn from Timothy to Amos.
Peaches Melba is a dessert, she used the pseudonym Melba Koh. I think it's also a way for him/her to reject parts of her Mao identity in ways (although not all of it) and respect her as Melba, who was a talented engineer by any metric and not defined by her relationship to Mao.
Amos enjoy giving inverted nicknames. Hence, Konecheck the huge, intimidating, modified-beast aka "tiny" and Clarissa cold-blooded, methodical, mass-murder aka "peach".
Also, by Amos calling Konecheck "tiny" it puts the focus on him.
Peaches comes from the dessert Peach Melba
Loved the reaction, as usual. Amos continues to rock. Also enjoying the Amazon Prime after show. They have the actor who plays Filip on this week.
at 37:30 when he said he saved her life, he didnt know about the knife. If you watch the screens around marco before, one of them had the Roci on it.
He saved her life, because if she was on the roci she would of died with them if it blew.
I assume you've already watched "Orphan Black" because otherwise it'd be right up your alley for reactions.
I mean, yes, please! But I don't know if Nikki's heart would survive from the tension and the heartbreak.
Nope, we’ve never seen it
So now ya know who's supplying Marco Inaros.
Amos goes all WWE. Great reaction. Happy new year to you both.
From what I've heard peaches is her name is related to a dessert that has peaches in it
I love Amos so much and i need the next episode i need to know if bobby and Alex are ok that whole scene made me so tense great reaction you guys love your faces also deuces tiny lol
Holden did suspect it, they ran checks on the Roci’ but the Augustin Gamarra code is hidden
Clarissa’s alias back in season 3 was Melba. Melba = Peaches 😀
She lucked out. Peaches sounds much better than Toast.
"oh fuck bye tiny! fuck! splat!" LOL
