A "core dump" only dumps the plasma from the reactor core, emptying the hot plasma from its magnetic containment. The reactor can be restarted again but it takes time for the core to heat back up to fusion temperatures. The core feeds the drive so until you can get the reactor restarted you're drifting in space, completely vulnerable. It's why it's a last resort.
Small point, but without the reactor (but with reserve power in the batteries/capacitors) a ship can maneuver and even travel (slowly!) on its RCS/ maneuvering thrusters. Because those thrusters usually use steam, travelling on thrusters is often called travelling "teakettle". But it's pathetically low acceleration compared to using the main Epstein drive. So a ship without its main drive isn't "dead in space", but it's close enough to it for combat purposes.
@@benjaminodonnell258 yep, that's what the Rosi did over New Terra when all fusion shut down. Though, in many cases, the tea kettle thrusters get their heat directly from the fusion reactor
I wasn't a fan of them splitting up in this season at first, but I was convinced when the Amos perspective started picking up in this episode. I think the Earth stuff has been my favorite part of season 5, along with Naomi's character story in the next couple episodes...

Now that I think about it, was Naomi's message actually that close? The scene was cut like it was, but there's travel time for their messages right? Surely Marco's fleet wasn't in real time messaging distance of Tycho Station. I'd imagine that the message was sent over 30 or 45 minutes before Holden received it.
I considered it arriving before they started prepping the Roci and it sat in the queue until Holden got strapped in. Mainly because it would make more sense to me that Naomi would send it to the Roci instead of their personal pads where they might ignore it because they don't know the person. Edit: Mom just pointed out that the on-board-A.I. probably would've waited to show it to a registered crew member, too, since Holden was the only MC there.
Rick: Naomi's part wasn't that badass... Every Expanse Fan: Just keep watchin' hoss. Good episode. The mark of a great TV show is how it handles the episode _after_ all the shit goes down and there 'The Expanse' seldom disappoints IMO.
Yeah, the Augustin Gamarra code has been used for foreshadowing a couple of times. When Amos arrived on the Moon, he also saw the memorial for the lives lost during the explosion of that ship. Again, The Expanse delivers on the secondary characters. 😃 Re-watch the scene where Amos picks up Sullivan's gun, and checks it. The display shows zero bullets remaining. Tiny realized the guard was out of bullets and was, therefore, useless for the climb out of the shaft. However, he remained a possible complication for Tiny's own escape attempt. The moment Amos saw the empty magazine, he knew what had happened -- but also realized they needed the cyborg to help get them out of the hole. So, Amos didn't say anything, because he knew the remaining guards would likely shoot Tiny, and then they'd all be screwed. Edit: Oh! These guys figured it out. 😄
If Filip hadn't taken Naomi she and Holden would have died. Thank God she found out rather soon (she's so smart of course she did) and remember she's not good with weapons, I think she was just desperate but still she's badass 💯🚀

This season throws a lot of reason out the window. The previous seasons organically got our heroes in there to save the day. This time, it's like they've stopped trying in their writing and have switched to the regular, contrived, action hero tropes to have our heroes save the day.
