Cheeky title. 😁 I thought it was an end of an era. Good to see the 80 is getting some much needed love. Looking forward to seeing what you do to it. If that GU has been with the family for ages, it should be a keeper. Just like the 80, they're a classic 4WD.

Just bought an 02 Sentra a bit ago and this video made me want a Patrol so bad, I always loved Datsuns as a kid but my Sentra made me realize how in love I've always been with Nissan vehicles 😂
Thought this was a permanent swap, but pleased you've brought back to life a family car, which is looking really good. Great episode and it'll be fun to watch along with the refurb of the 80. Nice one!
Just a good tip for you legends, I would be doing brake and clutch fluid flush. Manufactures recommend every 2 years but the fact it’s been sitting would highly recommend. Keep up the awesome content 👌👌👌
Top video as always. Just a warning in handling radiator coolant. It has a common base chemical called ethylene glycol, which is highly toxic and can damage the kidneys even if swallowed in small amounts. Ethylene glycol can be absorbed in minimal amounts from skin contact or inhalation, however it is most toxic when ingested. Keep up the great content. Your videos are very interesting and educational.
Omg I thought this was the end of an era! Thank your mum for keeping this rig and letting you boys use it, I can’t wait to see more to come and what is to come up with the old cruiser too
They really are. I've owned a bunch of 4x4's, and as much as I love the older Toyota's, you really can't beat a GU Patrol for toughness....the drivelines are just about bulletproof. 4.8 motor is excellent and can make good power, but they have a severe drinking problem, so I prefer the old TD42.
Most underrated Patrol, My tb45 1998 is just over 400ks, replaced all the same items in the video, also replaced the radiator and viscous coupling and fan, only use genuine parts Had mine for 20 years, run like new, chews the juice thou
Imagine owning that gu from new. Half a million kms is unheard of with new cars. I bought a new hilux back in 2021 and with less than 60k on it been back to the dealer 3 or 4 times for warranty repairs 😅
Definitely not unheard of at all. I rented a 2020 Kia Rio with 600,000kms and those things are a piece of crap. My girlfriends 2018 corolla has 380k, fathers 2022 Hilux rogue has 300k already and only had dpf issue so far

If you pull the gas off it you will find it goes a lot better, looks like a impco 225cfm setup. Think of it like running a 40mm throttle body over the standard 65mm or so.
Gday from Fraser Island Mobile Breakdown Service at Eurong. I think you were up here around Xmas last year? To check thermostat opening correctly, no need to remove, just take off radiator cap and run motor until top hose gets hot and you can see fluid circulating. Cheers
Is that a 'Hiclone' on the intake pipe? If it's still in there, I strongly recommend that you turf it in the bin!!! I think you will be impressed at the extra performance you get out of her.
Been doing some major work on my HZJ80. Like you found Miles of wires under the dash. Carefully chopped one by one then checked all lights and functions. I now have quarter of a wheelie bin full of STUF!!. I don't like the Patrols but they usually should go like a rocket. Also been doing some work on a FZJ80 with gas conversion. Makes the Star Ship Enterprise look slow but uses more fuel.

TB45 insanely basic and reliable engine, mines done nearly 450k but they are known to run up to a million ks. May be slow but just keep on trucking, only issue they have is the cylinder heads dont like lpg
Hey guys just a quick lil bit of information if you’d are planning on keeping it for a while I recommend putting it on straight petrol so it runs cooler and is also a little bit more efficient
Wish you’d thrown that new temp sensor in some hot water to show it in action, and I can’t believe you did the struts AFTER putting all the gear in the engine bay.
Not sure if sarcasm, but they kind of are lol. Cruisers need too much $$ to fix the driveline to do what patrols do stock. But patrols don’t have nice engines like cruisers
After using a Landcruiser Prado comparing it to the Nissan patrol td42, will take the Nissan everytime. Probably the best 4wd I have used. Some other Toyotas have disappointed as well. I think Toyotas are over hyped and overpriced compared to the patrol.
Great video! Could you explain what key features or experiences made you switch to the Nissan Patrol? Was it more about performance, comfort, or reliability?
Hat off to Japanese engendering! It keeps on going! It is ready for club permit! It looks great! Still useable as current! What is the timing belt or chain situation though!?
It's hard to find an honest mechanic nowadays. I've been "ripped off" multiple times by different shops, would love to people like you guys to open up a shop here in Jakarta, Indonesia. I think my Ford Everest is starting to fall apart.
When you say GAS do you mean LPG? Mine is dual fuel. Unleaded and LPG. Unfortunately, I’m rural and many servos are closing LPG pumps. City dwellers are always looked after and regional folks are overlooked.

super cool truck. Just have aTB45 Patrol laying around unused! Gas is going to sap your power as is >500k kms! Did you know they still make the TB45 and TB48 engines. If that thing runs on dedicated gas it's normal for it to take a little bit to start. I had a Holden VF on gas, Holden says upto 10seconds to start is within their tolerance.... having had cars that barely spend 1 or 2 seconds on the starter it's deffs a bit strange hitting the starter for 6-8 seconds

Typically gas converted cars start on Petrol & switch over to gas once running. I'd suggest this part doesn't work. Could be solenoid, petrol pump.... module.
Red has the longest wavelength, the shortest frequency, and the lowest energy. To appear as red, it has to absorb more wavelength, and this causes a significant fade in the color. Red paint needs UV additives, i was a Painter. But i first noticed this in fishing lures as Red coloured lures totally lose their colour at about 7 meters. Same for Red fish they look silver to white in clear water until they get closer to the surface then magically turn red.
