Easy one was easy, uni took me a few minutes to figure out haha. Thank you sir for breaking the snell knot down!
What the snell! That was fast Dieter.
Perfect! Many thanks from the UK!
Dude, u are doing this so quik can follow. So for that I giv u 1 star
That was great Dieter thanks for sharing
For the past couple of weeks I've gone down a Snell knot rabbit hole. I prefer to use braid with palomars (even for my leaders) and have been trying to find solid proof that a snell knot and mono will produce better hook up ratios and whether I should consider changing. Man, the theories are ALL OVER the place. Then you factor in eyes that are bent or straight and welded or not and hook points that are offset or not and then actions of rods too. It's crazy. :)
Great video Dieter. Easy to see what you are doing. There are a couple other smells that are very easy too. I use one of those other snells(don't know what its called) that you could show. Wouldn't make your video more than 4 minutes either. Thanks.
I like that first one. I’ve always used the second but, like you said, I feel nervous about it. Great video Dieter.
Thanks for the information on these. Great video...
That first knot the exact one I use, never had a problem tying or coming loose. I usually use 20-50lb Ande for a leader.
Great video sir.
I have found this tutorial about the Uni snell method, and its predecessors, very helpful and educational. Seaguar 30lb Blue Label Fluoro defeated me though. After two days of trying I gave up and tied a Palomar knot to a Gamakatsu 2/0. If you have any tips on tying "tough to tie" line I'd love to hear them (I won't be buying any more Blue Label Seaguar, it doesn't tie well with ANY knot for me).
I always called it the no knot snell rather than easy I’ve never had it come loose used it for yrs I can also stop knot from backing off by adding a egg loop to the no knot and if u use chicken or chicken livers the egg loop can hold it on ! Great demo !!! Waiting for April 15 that opening youth season here n Ohio !!! Gobble gobble !! Do turkey videos again if u boys game
I’m planning to film some this year….get em or not.
Yeah that’s why I wasn’t a fan of the easy snell knot but I didn’t realize the first knot was another variation of it!
All my knots are improved clinch knot and they haven’t failed me yet
hai bos thanks for the tips....
I like the frist one as well
I use the second variation in the video but I usually do 10 wraps then 2 reverse wraps back onto the shank. Holds tighter and I've never lost a fish to it.
freaking beautiful knots. new sub. Checking your content out now. Love it so far
Thanks for watching and subscribing….

The uni snell is definitely the more solid way to go.
I dont trust the simple snell but my shaky hands wont allow me to do a snell that locks itself down. I always drop some Krazy glue on the windings and let it dry. Works for me so far.
I use the easy smell method and tie them ahead of time. I just put a dab of super glue on the knot and it will never loosen.

Is this knots suitable for FC?
The traditional knot works the best, is quick to tie and there is no fuss, no fish lost unless I am the dummy.
Drop of super glue would hold that knot just to be safe but i like the first one best
That’s a great idea!!
I lost some decent fish last summer from bad knots mostly using the clinch knot and couple from tightening my drag as tight as it would go 😂😂 amateur hour here
What works best for me is tying non-snell knots.
A snell knot is designed for spade end hooks, not open eye hooks.
The small gap between the eye and hooklength will shred a snell knot.
poked myself with the hook more than i did wrapping it around my hook I wont give up
The first one you tied isn’t the uni version of a snell. It’s actually closer to a traditional snell knot. A uni snell knot wasn’t shown in this video and it’s where you wrap the tag around both loops of main like a noose.
On the easy snell knot, I usually wrap 25 to 30 times down the shank of the hook before I go back through the eye. I find this helps with the knot slipping. Plus, I also stress the knot by hooking onto something but making sure the hook point remains untouched, and I pull on that knot as hard as I can several times, making sure knot holds.
I usually add a half hitch to the tag end....that wasy if either of them slip, the half hitch catches on the wraps and wont come loose
The second snell knot, is half an egg loop knot. Finish the loop knot and it will not be able to come loose.
Nothing as infuriating as losing a fish to a failed knot! Thanks for the tips!
Question. When using the Santee cooper rig, can you use a boober stop to keep the spook from moving down the line getting closer to the hook?
Sure you can. I usually use a bead, a short section of small rubber tubing and another bead between the hook and the rattle. I don't like the rattle too close to the hook.
Is there a difference between a "uni-snell knot" and a snell knot? Never heard of a uni-snell knot.
There is a difference yes, they are different knots.
If the idea of a snell knot is that the line pulls straight through the eye, why don't they just make circle hooks with straight shafts? I know I'm missing something obvious.
They do make circle hooks with straight eyes….
@DieterMelhorn Oh, they do? I only ever see them with bent shafts. Do you know why they bend them? I'm new to circle hooks... I've only used Khale for cats but wouldn't mind trying.
