For me, I think it was wise for Bandai not to include additional joints in the torso for stability reasons. The same thing can be said to all kits with a huge backpack (e.g. Lighting Gundam + Lighting Pack).
It would of been kind of cool to compare the VRABE with the original. I've had this model since it came out. Haven't built it yet since I've been focused on my first personal custom, but I have a lot of plans for this one. Thanks for the review.
I'm waiting for the Amazing Full Strike Freedom Gundam. Meijin's final suit that combines EVERYTHING he ever built. ...there's just one problem. The color of the thing is all dark violet.
Looks cool. I've actually picked up a stock Hi-Nu for myself, which I plan to paint up in Neo Zeon colors (Burgundy, a few shades of red, some gold + the zeon MS emblems). I really appreciated the notes on the dated engineering. Also, have you considered doing a short preface on what was/wasn't painted? You do mention what needs to be painted, but I think taking a moment while you're going over parts or something to point out the specific details, such as the silver on the front skirt and the gold on the backpack, would be helpful. But thats just me, I'd enjoy your videos either way.
EricWalks I used to be very meticulous about mentioning that stuff, but ultimately, I realized I just sounded like I was commanding the viewer to build a certain way. Since then, I only tend to bring it up if I feel things are absolutely necessary.
An idea for the Star Winning: The disappointing lack of the giant beam effect for the gunblade (which looks awfully scultped imo) - use the one from the Amazing Red Warrior (or Kurenai weapon pack). Cut out a similarly shaped, but larger version, of the large beam pieces on the Star Funnels, out of a clear green plastic file cover and glue it on. You can either sacrifice on of the holding hands from the ARW (or another kit), or mod (file down) the handle.
The same thing can be done for the energy rings for the God Gundam, or the fiery "wings of light" for the Try/Build Burning. They can be pegged into place using the flame wheel pieces, or onto the latch that connects the backpack to the torso.
I've been wondering why this kit is so popular. Stores like Amiami and HLJ are sold out. Either it's really popular or not that many were made. Solid review. Price tag is a little high, but seems like you are getting some value out of it.
Having read the Amazing manga (which I don't know if the other new chapters are released now), I can safely say Tatsuya's Hi-Nu is the best of all his creations.
How did you paint the silver pieces? Did you use airbrush, spraycan, or handpaint? Also, how did you get the finish to work well? I have tried airbrushing some kits silver, but it never comes out as a nice brushed metal look like you get it, and how I want it.
My model of Vrabe is so fragile compared to yours. Did I mess something up in the building of him, or am I just cursed? xD I haven't done anything extra besides build it yet (not even the stickers), but have you hot glued it together? Or is it naturally that stable?
Bro i know you've said it before that your not most expert at painting, i still feel you should do a tutorial on how you paint your models. They look really good and might be helpful for newbie painters
I never really got the white and almost purplish blue Hi-Nu color scheme, but this design does it justice. Do the swords have a firm connection to the beam saber? The plastic seems a little heavy and something that could fall off.
Box listed price for the Hi-Nu Vrabe is ¥2592, which is actually almost ¥100 more then a "small" real grade priced at ¥2500. However, actual retail prices are much lower (amiami has the Vrabe at around ¥1800) before shipping, which is also the same as RGs (around ¥1750). I was in Japan in January and was surprised at how cheap Gunpla without shipping and actually is x.x I don't even know why Bandai has that price on the box. I bought an Amazing Red Warrior, box-priced at ¥1900 for a meagre ¥1350 on release day. On to the kit...I own an HGUC Hi-Nu that unfortunately sits in a storage box instead of out on display, because it's very poor kit for the price. Color separation is atrocious (one color bazooka and beam rifle? Really?!). 4 of the 6 fin funnels are static. HGUC Nu Gundam, released a year before for a meagre ¥300 more, was such a better kit, it's insulting. You'd think the Hi-Nu is an early 2000's kit, not a 2009 release. /endrant While you gave it a positive review, I see that the negatives of the original Hi-Nu have not been fixed and while I really like the design of the Vrabe and its Lazerbeak add-on, knowing how they can do new molds for older kits like with the Gouf R35, I feel like this one is a bit of a ripoff. Thanks for the review!
lukeiamyourdad Bare with me, I'm going to go a little technical with pricing here, the kit retails for ¥2400. That's it and that's how I judge the value of this kit. The ¥2592 you're referring to is the 2400 + 8% Japanese tax, and I'm assuming you're reading these numbers off of amiami. Thing is, international buyers are not subject to Japanese tax - amiami only lists it so that then can apply a bigger discount percentage to make it seem like you're saving more money. Standard marketing tactics. As for the actual price you pay (around 1800), well I can't really judge the kit based off of that price because that's not truly indicative of the production costs. Also, once you add the shipping costs back in, the price more or less evens out again.
"However, actual retail prices are much lower" "I don't even know why Bandai has that price on the box." The price on the box is the actual MSRP. The lower prices you see is because stores like Amiami offer discounts to undercut the competition. The competition has no choice but match that price in order to stay competitive. At least that is how I've interpreted it. Bandai doesn't really care how much retailers sell their products for. Bandai sells to the retailers, and the retailers sell it to us. If a retailer really wanted to, they could sell a Perfect Grade for ¥1000 at a massive lost. As long as Bandai is being paid their price from retailers, retailers can do whatever they want with it.
Thanks for the clarification. I just thought it was so jarring that the suggested price would be so much higher than the actual retailer price. In Canada, outside of books, I can't think of any product that shows its MSRP so openly, so it's something I never even think about. I've never worked retail so those things are lost to me.
I think this is my favorite version of the hi nu due to the more dragon like design with extra edges and no fuel tanks which was my biggest complaint with the original hi Nu
As someone who only does straight assembly and having bought this kit i have to say that I'm not put off by the lack of color, gives it a kind of white knight feel. Did you go for the amazing Levs?
Barry Bend no dude this was from build fighter manga while the one from the char counter attack : belroka's children was the predecessor of this build fighter kit
This looks like a pretty solid, if a little dated, kit, but honestly when I saw the front skirt design I was a little... thrown off. If you catch my drift.
kinda amazed by the gundam design but the weight issue of the backpack plus the display stands required for the funnel~ i m kinda thinking of pass this model kits ~ >.
Is anyone else having problems at the torso to waist connection part, it feels like its not connecting all the way in to the torso, so the torso just falls off while im trying to pose it.
Thank you :D Btw your review are really informative and by observing the other gundams you put in comparison to the gundams you are reviewing, I can tell you are really talented. Your gundams look really awesome.
Hye V3, do you repaint every armor using the same colour as stated in the manuals or just put some clear coating? I watched lots of your video review and been wondering since.
swrodgon Takes place before the original Build Fighters. Follows the story of Tatsuya Yuuki as a 7 year old and reveals how he got the title "The Crimson Comet".
sorry i haven't finished the video yet, but i just finished building this kit and wanted to state my opinion. it is amazing (pun intended :p) the amount of things you can do with the weapons, sabers, "chicken mode", etc. there are hundreds of combinations that you can snap things together. hell you can make him use the fuel tanks to club someone over the head if you want to be comical. *spoiler alert* you can plug the whole entire chicken to his arm like a crazy ass shield. you can have him wear the shield with the physical swords. i can go on and on. the one disappointment is the old shield doesn't have all the parts so you are stuck with the blue zig zag piece and nothing else. tl;dr - this is the most verstile hg kit as far as accessories that i have. i build gundams on twitch under creative, check me out, my channel name is mtn85. feel free to come by and say hi, let me know you saw this message, it will mean a lot to me :).
Cool. If you build gunpla on twitch then your streams could help me improve my skill and decrease my build time. Anyway do you know a good HG from build fighters try that would be good for a beginner? I'm considering the build burning.
Hey thanks, I dont know about all that but I have a few friends on stream that know a lot and we all help each other. I am not super active but I will be doing the gm cardigan and crossbone in a couple of days. As far as a recommendation, get the "try burning" because it has all the original build burning parts plus many extra "upgrade" parts and accessories for 3 dollars more on amazon). That was the quickest and easiest gundam I have built so far, it is elegant how posable and simple it is. It stands on one leg really easily for kicking poses and stuff. good luck!
Matthew Nelson okay. My plan was too buy the original team try fighters and then buy the upgraded versions. I think I'll stick with that. But thanks for your help anyway. BTW I personally like the GM powered cardigan but the HG is to outdated for my taste.

if I ever had a chance to legit customize a gundam it would be based on the honoo flame and 00 raiser

I painted the purple secctions of my hi nu gundam with metalic market gundam black color and looks great =D
Ahhh the original gundam where the freedom is based on
Another great review, keep up the great work! Will you be doing a review for the Winning Gundam?
superjedidude24 Already have.
Maybe the STAR Winning Gundam??
love the color of the beam sabers
NU gundam is my favourite gundam of all time honestly.
Hi-Nu for me. Combined with HWS, oh boy....
Joeie Rivera nu Gundam double fin funnels HWS honestly matches Hi-nu Gundam in terms of awesomeness
In my country, the Vrabe is just the same price as a normal HG.
Lucky
kazuya kenzaki i think, because they're all overpriced.

This Gundam just looks too cool
so this is where you get the wings for the amazing strike freedom
I've been wondering why this kit is so popular. Stores like Amiami and HLJ are sold out. Either it's really popular or not that many were made.
Solid review. Price tag is a little high, but seems like you are getting some value out of it.
most of the hgbf/bd suits are expensive and rare. minus the mains of course
Having read the Amazing manga (which I don't know if the other new chapters are released now), I can safely say Tatsuya's Hi-Nu is the best of all his creations.
Joeie Rivera I believe the amazing manga ended and started again with the amazing ready manga

ghostypheus Sword connection is fine.

Ya, it is pretty weird for sure.
I use to like the Hi-Nu but now I prefer the towering height and the more mean look of the original HGUC Nu Gundam.

I think this is my favorite version of the hi nu due to the more dragon like design with extra edges and no fuel tanks which was my biggest complaint with the original hi Nu

Great review !

As someone who only does straight assembly and having bought this kit i have to say that I'm not put off by the lack of color, gives it a kind of white knight feel. Did you go for the amazing Levs?
thundercat2000ca Nope. Too expensive and too much work.
I'm looking forward to the star winning review.
I like this kit and the gundam its based off of. The Hi nu is the the RG I'm hoping bandai will release after ther red frame.
@Black Chandelier Mirage Right!!!
Another great review TypeV3! Are you planning to get the metal composite version of this Gundam?
Impossible Pie There is no Metal Composite of the Hi-Nu Vrabe.
this was the one I was talking about
Metal Robot Spirits Hi-Nu Gundam Char's Counterattack
Probably the Metal Robot Damashii Hi-Nu
Was that last part a tease for gundam mg exia dark matter? If it was, i am very much teased. Can't wait for that. Then i get my own. :)
Kevin Nase I don't think so...
IIIt's Hiiiiii Nuuuuu...
Magikarpusedfly
What paint colors did you use? I have ordered the kit and would like to know.
But this Gundam was from the Char's counter Attack novel.
Barry Bend no dude this was from build fighter manga while the one from the char counter attack : belroka's children was the predecessor of this build fighter kit
Type V3 when you will review Wing gundam zero Honoo?
nash sumata no.
nope.
Not really.
Most of the weapons are stored on the backpack so wouldn't it be exposed without it?
This looks like a pretty solid, if a little dated, kit, but honestly when I saw the front skirt design I was a little... thrown off. If you catch my drift.
***** I don't know, doesn't come off as overtly phallic to me.
It's probably less noticeable in person but I couldn't help but double take at the initial pan up of the snap build.
By any chance do you know of an sites were I could order replacement parts for some of my gunpla model kits?
What paint did you use to colour in the silver and gold parts? parts on the skirt, legs, shoulders and back. Ex. gundam marker, tamiya spray, etc.
Josh Youp I used both Gundam Markers and Tamiya spray paints.
thank you! Also, awesome vids. keep up the good work
Did you spray paint or airbrushed the model?
If spray painted, can you tell me the paints you used? The color seperation is quite good when painted.
Jefferson Sheng Mix of paintbrush, gundam markers and spray cans

InNeedOfFreedom I took a paintbrush to it.
kinda amazed by the gundam design but the weight issue of the backpack plus the display stands required for the funnel~
i m kinda thinking of pass this model kits ~ >.
May I know what did you use to repaint those parts?
A NAOKI's design again, still hate that small feet design. But the overall it is better looking than the regular Hi-nu gundam =D
叶川ヒロ lol, I like smaller feet as opposed to the clown shoes that all the Seed suits wear!
Is anyone else having problems at the torso to waist connection part, it feels like its not connecting all the way in to the torso, so the torso just falls off while im trying to pose it.
hey! I just got this kit and plan to build it soon, does it come with a stand or no?
From what i know nope as standard for most current HG kits of late.
What kind pf coating do you use for that frosting effect?
this kit need MG and PG version :3
I'm a beginner, is it advisable to buy this?
May I know what is the gundam next to vrabe at 8:11 ? that looks cool!!!!
balarama das 1/100 Master Grade Tallgeese III
Thank you :D Btw your review are really informative and by observing the other gundams you put in comparison to the gundams you are reviewing, I can tell you are really talented. Your gundams look really awesome.
Hye V3, do you repaint every armor using the same colour as stated in the manuals or just put some clear coating? I watched lots of your video review and been wondering since.
Is there any site that translates the manga? Would be interested in reading it, does this take place before or after the original build fighters?
swrodgon Takes place before the original Build Fighters. Follows the story of Tatsuya Yuuki as a 7 year old and reveals how he got the title "The Crimson Comet".
WHEN? when did tatsuya yuuki use hi nu gundam? He only use zaku amazing, amazing exia, amazing kampfer and amazing red warrior
Devara FT Never in the anime. It appeared in the prequel manga.
***** oh thankss
Looks a lot like Noblesse Oblige from AC4
AC as what?
Armored Core
Can someone tell me which gundam marker to use? I cant find the right blue to use!
R u gonna get the HGBF Wing Gundam Zero Hoonoo?
Hey V3, what kind of video editor do you use? I just wanna know...
Jacky Lee iMovie. On iOS. On my iPhone.
That's amazing...Such good quality video and smooth screenplay...nicely done
***** imovie? holy shit
Shouldn't be all that surprising. My videos don't incorporate any fancy video tricks - it's all fairly basic.
cool gundam
Its sad that they didnt make the Murcury Rev parts
@Black Chandelier Mirage huh, neat
ITS HI NUUUUUUUUN!!!
What topcoat are you using?
sucks that only 2 of the funneles come off. if all of them did, it woukd be perfect for me.
do you topcoat before review ?
Thats so cool
in the kit there were extra parts. i was wondering what they make could tell me?
Dillon Ly They're used to make the original Hi-Nu Gundam.
do amazing strike freedom please
what paint do you use for the joints and hands?
The Second SAi Gunmetal

Nooooot a fan. but that's likely because I don't like the Hi-Nu. Thanks as always for the great review.
where can I buy this gundam and is there gundam anime about this gunpla
There's a lot of websites around that sell this kit. And sadly, it's a manga exclusive suit. The manga it's from is called Gundam Build Fighters Amazing if you ever feel like reading it.
How many dola?
Has anyone noticed he called it the hi-nu, but the instructions say hi-v
It's technically not a v, it's the lowercase symbol for nu.
What episode did tatsuya use this?
Tesla Fart Was never featured in the anime. This was only seen in the prequel manga/comic Gundam Build Fighters Amazing.
Are you aware it's supposed to be Hi-nu Gundam BRAVE in the manga?
That's what I thought! But I ended up using the Engrish translation BANDAI adopted since that was the way they're officially marketing it. Wanted to get easier exposure for those who were searching.
Tatsuya named it "Vrabe" so that he could know which one was his, as a lot of people like "Brave" as an adjective.
does the kit includes a base?
