I actually really enjoy the longer legs of the RG line. I always interpreted RG's 1/144 scale as being based off the real grade vision: designed as if they were real. In other words: if these suits were real, their inherent designs and heights would be unique to their real life inspired versions rather than their fiction/anime/manga based counterparts. So for me... still 1/144 scale, it's just their 1/1 that their 1/144size is based off is something different. P.s. think of it like this. We all know how tall a PG 1/60 gundam kit is. Now put the 1/48 Mailes Kenbu infront of it. 1/48 is a larger scale, but the kenbu pales in comparison to a PG 1/60 gundam due to it's original 1/1 size being WAY smaller than a 1/1 gundam. For me, RG is like that. They are their own thing with 1/1 sizes that are unique to them. So of course their 1/144 doesn't match that of a standard HG.
I always considered this also. You gotta imagine these mechs and how big and heavy they are. So them having longer legs for better support makes sense. If you got a bigger base the better support the structure will have. To me personally the legs look a lot better imo. Not sure about all other rg kits though
This. People forget that the entirety of the rg lineup is supposed to be the kit reimagined to what it would look like on real life. Like the origional rg rx 78 was a recreation of the real life rx 78 statue
I just found your channel! You’re really good at these videos. Sometimes I feel MechGaikotsu is too brash or undetailed in his reviews, or ZakuAurealis who I feel is too slow and a lot of the info he gives goes over my head if I’m not in a good mood or not paying attention. You reviews have been really entertaining and offer a good middle ground with the 3-point verdict. Keep up with this man!
Thank you so much! I get what you mean with the other channels and am really encouraged when you and others let me know you enjoy this particular style of content! I'll certainly keep at it:)
Dude I feel the same. Mecha is normally really early, so I often use him to get caught up with the hobby. Zaku is a very good resource for learning techniques, but man he can info dump like crazy. I think Clubhouse is a great middle ground.
Lmao yeah Mecha treats his kits like toys and then complains that they are flimsy or loose. If you didn’t literally throw your kits around you probably wouldn’t have these issues…
Fantastic review. It was a fun watch. You gave a great in-depth look of everything we'd want to know about this kit and then some. I like how you're throwing in some quick and sneaky jokes in your videos now, keeps the tone entertaining throughout.
Thank you as always! There really was a lot to go through from seeing all the talk about it online. All that comparison of sizes and length... I couldn't help it, the jokes demanded to be made:)
Bandai engineers really TOOK THE LIBERTY of revamping the aesthetic & mechanical aspect of the original MS design in Real Grade kits. "Improving" the size of the MS is just another decision to take in order to achieve good overall proportion and to accommodate those amazing gimmicks for the RG Hi-V Gundam, and it is in 1/144 scale.
From my observation, it really does seem like the proportions with the longer legs is often a priority and the rest of the kit is built around that. They add so much details and features that it's kinda hard to be too upset with the results. Though I certainly wouldn't mind if they just take out the 1/144 on the box, it'd make everyone's lives easier
Bandai prepared quite a lot of stock this time for Hong Kong here so it didn't get wiped clean immediately - though even all that only lasted for about a day. Sure hope they'll be able to fill orders elsewhere soon. The scalpers will be out in full force for this kit ._.
@@HobbyClubhouse true , it might take a while for our local gunpla store to get their hands on these kits too . the 1st week this kit arrive here , its all gone within seconds . hopefully i can get a set for the next upcoming batch . anyhow , i enjoy the review so much i know i wont be disappointed when i get 1 myself. have a great day man ! Great detailed review !
I usually watch a certain someone for gunpla reviews but after watching your videos once I found you earlier I think I've found my new go-to reviewer! Your comparisons and explanations go above and beyond and your voice is much more appealing 🤩. Looking forward to checking out the rest of your vids 🤟🤟
Thank you so much, and really glad the extra bit of depth is something you enjoy! I know there are lots of Gundam model fans out there looking for something a bit different:)
I mean it isn't accurate to the actual scale. Especially when putting it to side by side the hg kit. Which is why they started to noticeably distance away from 1/144 scale for rg kits
The HG Nu-Gundam was my 7th build and absolute favorite, even the fin funnels. First panel lining and turned out great. Have this in back log and looking forward to it
I think RG enlargement is more of a symptom of trying to fit the parts count into the box scale. RG Hi-Nu is much closer in size to MG F91 than HGUC Hi-Nu, and miniaturizing would probably compromise either mold detail or parts strength. At a certain point, an RG has to be more than an HG, even if newer HGs can have simple frames that work well.
@@arcticarduino That's fine, but these are still fictional robots at the end of the day. Bandai can easily say the Hi-Nu is now 20m tall, and suddenly the RG would be in-scale.
Oh Yeah! Another Amazing Review! I know that it is too early in the year but I nominate the HG Nightingale as the best HG Kit of the Year and the RG Hi Nu as the best RG Kit of The Year (and probably the best Overall Kit of The Year). More importantly, Your Review for the HG Nightingale and this one for the RG Hi Nu are THE Two Best Reviews of The Year. AWESOME!
I think in terms of engineering and designer skill, this kit really is the best of the best from Bandai, which makes me quite glad because the RG team has had quite a few problems with high-profile releases like the Sinanju. Thank you so much for your vote of confidence! (or is that more like an outright award?) Still some months left. Maybe the kings can be toppled:)
You are killing it with your reviews my man definitely top 3 depending upon whom you ask. But as far as the way you make it work is very special. Also you mentioned something about pilot figures for RG kits and for me I have always been one of those kids that never played with vehicles without a visible driver or when Zoids I believe was what were first available in the early 80’s they also had a little silver or gold pilot for the cockpit and I was always more interested in those type of toys. So I think Bandai set the precedents for pilot figures with the 1/100 kits and so on , I know it’s a minuscule piece of plastic that isn’t congruent to the functionality or appearance of the kit but it’s a great bonus and always holds a special place in my childhoods heart to this very day.
Thank you so much! Certainly hope to give people a great choice besides the big boys everyone know Zoids really did have visible canopies where you can see the pilots, and I think it's pretty key to convey that they're piloted machines rather than just robot dinosaurs (as if that alone wasn't already really cool) Bandai started taking cockpits really seriously at the dawn of the MG line and those kits were the first to seriously show humans in context with the MS They always made me feel inadequate though since I can't paint them well at all...
Holy!!!.I just found your channel. This is review splendidly done. So informative and packed with details I need without being dull and boring. I don't even felt like 40min review. Keep it up man. Looking forward for your next content.
Thank you so much! Especially encouraging to know it was informative enough to watch all the way:) Hope to see you around the comments -- back to work now...
13:40 that's the first sign he's turning into jobbythehong hahahaha very informative video by the way I really like the Hi-Nu over the Vanilla Nu because of the Girth and he's a thicc boi but I really like the asymmetrical design of the Vanilla
"Jobby Clubhouse" sounds nice:) (That bit really did feel Jobby-esque even to me when I was making it) The girth on the legs made all the difference this time and the Hi-Nu looks really nice with it, even though the height spread out some of that chonk
I only just got this kit last week. I decided to skip pre-order as I've never had an issue finding new releases after the initial hype has settled down. For some reason this kit was the exception. Possibly due to the plague. I'm looking forward to building this kit even more after watching your review. Really well done!
Another phenomenal review again! I'm glad that you continue to review newly released kits early. Hope the youtube algorithm works and bring more people's attention to your channel.
I sure hope more people get to see my content too:) Just as happy to see comments like this from you and others though that get me excited to make videos! ...but yes! Pray with me to the algorithm gods!
UA-cam recommended to me this video and I have to say, this is the best and most extensive review I have seen! Keep it up! I have preordered the kit from HLJ but not fulfilled yet from the first batch, looking forward to building mine! First gotta build my RG Nu next which is in my backlog. Thank you for pointing out areas that builders of this kit should watch out for! Liked, subbed and belled!
You're very welcome and welcome to the channel! It's about time YT's Mighty Algorithm gave me some love :) You'll be driven nuts if you make six funnels on the RG Nu and them go straight into the RG Hi-Nu
@@HobbyClubhouse Haha my video plans from builds are RG Nu, then RG Sazabi (Which I snap built a few years ago), then the RG Hi-Nu, probably only around December, so a while till then! So many funnels! XD
The size couldn’t bother me any less, it’s entirely fine and I’m very happy that it scales up to look the same height as the Nu. What I don’t like are the gold and silver plastics which look disgusting and contrast with the pastels of the kit in an ugly way. As a snap fit builder this bothers me a lot (I paint miniatures and build gunpla as a treat to get away from my brushes and airbrush). Minor gripes are the toned down gun on the right arm and the silver chest vents, which should’ve been yellow or at least gold, to break up the front a little. A desaturated yellow would’ve been nice instead of all the gold, I think, and a simple grey instead of the silver would’ve been great. The C clips are disappointing, they have too high a failure rate to still be used, through no fault of the user. The rest looks phenomenal and despite the color choices, I’d be happy to have this displayed.
besides the extremely detailed review and comparison, i love how you nip the edges and i find it you're extremely careful and precise in cutting the nubs. IT WAS CLEAN
Thanks! You might be the first person to ever notice and mention that:) It's hellish to work on kits with lots of pieces AND undergates though (i.e. this kit)
This is the first video I've seen from you. Great stuff man!! I already have one yet to be built but I already want a second to try my luck on customizing it. Thanks for the great review and classy jokes lol.
i will be honest, long videos is quite a commitment for me, but I will be honest here, your presentation and the details you put into this review, is truly amazing and entertaining!, I enjoyed every moment, I'm new here but I have been loving all your videos, from the reviews to the modeling tips, really lovely Keep it up!
Thank you so much! Kinda thought it was an angry comment when I started reading and was surprised it's something so nice:) Very glad the content was meaningful enough to be worth your time, since I don't like videos that waste my time as a viewer myself. Thanks again for the encouragement, working hard as we speak!
I just came across your channel, and The cat named hobby really got me, love your content so far man, I’ve built too many, so nice to watch others do this addiction hobby lmao
I'm with you on the scale issue. Missed the first run before it was out of stock everywhere... managed to get a lot on the second run some months later, at a lower price than pre-order 😂. The upshoot of the mismatched size is that I'm a lot less compelled to get the HG Nightingale now to make a fight scene diorama.
First of all, amazing review. You do so much research to help the viewers understand minute details and facts all that more better. Your videos are very informative and entertaining. Blowing Mecha Gaikotsu and ZakuAurelius out of the water completely. However, you did forget to mention how the hinge on the back of the head moves up to allow for 360 degree rotation and that the legs are able to do the splits with the skirt armor moved aside.
Thank you so much! Especially being compared to such big channels like theirs:) And holy cow, I had no idea the head flap was for turning the head - it really works... The leg articulation too, you really do pay close attention (most people skip right past it). Would have shown the full outer swing if I knew that before...
I like the review and how concise the review is. it shows the overall details of the RG HiNu and what could possibly go wrong with its joints. this really makes me even more excited for mine along with the PBandai Hyper Mega Launcher
The liberties given to the rg line and its purpose is to take into account what the machine would be in real life. In many instances the proportions would be a bit larger to accommodate the mechanicle parts that would need to be housed under the armor.
I love the proportions of both Nu and Hi nu. The longer legs in the Nu doesn't bother me at all. I hated how the Hi Nu wasn't as tall as the Nu. Im glad they made these changes and besides, Hi Nu is a MSV mobile suit and has been interpreted in different ways. The novel and manga version differ and there are three other designs for it.
@@HobbyClubhouse I feel like real grade is supposed to be the line where they take some liberties when it comes to designing a kit. Other grades like HG gear more to anime accuracy.
Thank you so much! Bandai actually says they've made a lot of the kit to combat scalpers and it seems to be true (for Japan and Hong Kong at least... not so much for other places) It wasn't all zombie-apocalypse movie Sure hope they can fill global orders quickly
I don't like this kit. But I like this video a lot. It gives the theme appropriate attention and is a great enrichment to our hobby. People thinking low of gunpla should watch 1 of your review to see how professional it can get.
Thanks for the review, as someone else said : very thorough. I really like that you take your time to justify your opinions on the kit. It makes for a better conversation overall. Also, you go thoroughly in describing the articulations and how everything fits. Like thanks to you, i'll be extra careful when building the connectors of the fuel tanks. They have that "C" shaped peg that I hate. It's sooo fragile. The toes of the MG Barbatos have the same type of peg, and one of mine got lose after a few hours. I don't agree though about the scaling issue. Yes, I like coherence, I always measure the kit's size and compare it to the MS height in the anime/manga. But, on the other hand, a taller Hi Nu is a delight. It fits the MS very well actually (imo). And one quick note : regardless of the RG Hi Nu oversizing, this kit doesn't match with the HG Nightingale, details wise. The HG while being nice and solid is bland compared to the level of details of the RG. Maybe we'll have a RG Nightingale :D . Anyways, thanks again !
Thank you so much! I think the size and scale issue is everyone's favorite topic, judging from the comments:) I didn't think there'd be this much interest actually. Big or not, I'm really of the opinion that they should just not mention 1/144 altogether and I think everything falls in place nicely I actually didn't consider that gap in level of detail actually but it's quite true especially when the Nightingale is that huge but with really clean, uninterrupted surfaces. If they made an RG Nightingale, I can't imagine how heavy it would be. I didn't mention it in the review but the Hi-Nu is pretty heavy because it's really dense.
Tbh, before I built it, I too was kinda taken aback by the size of the rg. Having built most of it, I think being off scale is a good thing. It looks more aggressive, the engineering is insane, which probably may not even have been possible had it been smaller, and most importantly, the hguc (which I love!) is a dwarf compared to the nightingale. This RG has a better silhouette to match with the gargantuan nightingale, I guess. Love your reviews, how I never discovered your channel before I'll never know, but amazing content, man! Edit: I actually own the original metal robot damashii, but the rg is indeed cheaper and much better!
Welcome to the channel, glad UA-cam somehow brought you here:) The Robot Damashii HiNu really had all the bases covered and even had the big cannon before anyone else did, but yeah, the price leaves it well out of reach for a lot of fans. It's kinda nice the RG looks so different from it so they don't just cancel out one of the other
I bet you'll have a great time recognizing all the similarly constructed parts all over the kit as you build it, it's a special treat for people who have both kits:)
As always, great review! I'm not one to lose sleep over the liberties taken in regard to scale conformity- if Bandai has to use some fuzzy math in order to realize their design and engineering objectives for a given kit, I can forgive a little discrepancy in the scale department. That said, I do prefer the Hi-Nu being a little shorter than his standard brother. I appreciate that there seemed to be a deliberate design philosophy differentiating their proportions. If I were to offer an american football analogy, the Nu is a tall, lean tight end, and the Hi-Nu is a (relatively) short, stout running back. I'm happy to see that the RG Hi-nu retains that beefy/bulky look for the most part. Nice to see Hobby make an appearance! Please give him a pet from me :)
Personally I wouldn't not-buy a kit for being bigger -- and technically, it really is lanky limbs on a 1/144 torso. Though I get why people who are annoyed with the 1/144-anarchy to not be very satisfied with that answer. The Robot Damashii people have the right idea from the start and don't list a scale so that has never been an issue Hobby got a nice neck massage:) He keeps getting into my shots now so you might see him more
Those pointy bits on the wing really might snap if tossed into a box, though for regular handling, I haven't bumped into them even with all the fiddling for the review so it should be safe. Chances are good you'll see this before long, since Bandai has stated themselves now that they've made more of the Hi-Nu specifically to combat scalpers:)
Can't wait for Amazon to cancel my $8 pre-orders of the RG Hi Nu Gundam 👍. Great video, I'm more excited to get the RG Hi Nu Gundam thanks to your video. I'm still on the hunt for the HG Hi Nu Gundam.
@@HobbyClubhouse Amazon has canceled my pre-order of the hgac Gundam Deathscythe, so I'm waiting for them to cancel my $8 pre-order of the RG Hi Nu Gundam or ship out 30MM Witchcraft Weapon set. Amazon of US made an error with the RG Hi Nu Gundam and the 30MM Witchcraft Weapon set; their prices, release dates, and product info where switched. They "fixed" most of the problem; but, the dates are still wrong and the 30MM Witchcraft Weapon set still mentions the Hi Nu Gundam's accessories (the hands, weapons, and decals). Thankfully the 30MM Witchcraft Weapon set from Amazon went down in price to $20 thanks to other sellers. Either way, as long as Amazon does not cancel my pre-orders I should get a nice deal for my RG Hi Nu Gundam.
R.I.P. the dream. Hopefully the $20 30MM Witchcraft Weapon is the RG Hi Nu Gundam on Amazon. Seeing that the 30MM Witchcraft Weapon has the release date of the Hi Nu Gundam.
As for me, comparing scales really is one of the most enjoyable aspect of this hobby. I prefer 1/144 it's a sizeable scale because you can easily compare it with other kits with less space requirement, reason I'm trying to find an Optimus prime model with 3in in height compared to a normal HGUC RX78 (just for fun). .. Not a deal breaker for the RG HI Nu though, just a little, tiny, micro disappointment lol. Awesome review by the way,, and the pun lol!
Thank you for your support as always:) There's this: tw.bid.yahoo.com/item/%E4%BA%8C%E6%89%8B-TAKARA-%E8%AE%8A%E5%BD%A2%E9%87%91%E5%89%9B-%E6%A5%B5%E5%B0%8F%E8%AE%8A%E5%BD%A2-%E7%AC%AC1%E5%BD%88-GTF-01-%E6%9F%AF%E5%8D%9A%E6%96%87-100819721912 It's a bit short of 3 inches, but it's pretty darn close. I used to have this myself actually
@@HobbyClubhouse You're welcome, your contents are absolutely worth the time :) Hope I can find that model in my local area, in a bit cheaper price though.. Thank you for the recommendation. :)
Hey there! What's a truly fantastic, entertaining yet educational video review of the RG 1/144 Hi-Nu Gundam. Of course, if I ever had the HGUC 1/144 Nightingale on my collection, I think it'll definitely work well together with each other since I've already owned an HGUC 1/144 Sazabi and my upcoming HGUC 1/144 Nu Gundam which I preordered is now coming around this noon-time. By the way, have you ever considering of planning a schedule of doing an video review of the HGUC 1/144 Nu Gundam perchance?
Beautiful kit and another excellent and thorough review. I skipped the RG Nu because I already have the Ver.Ka (and I don't like having the same MS twice, even in different scales), but I'll be getting the Hi-Nu when it will available again. Shame about the missing pilot figure. Seeing as it's the second kit in a row, let's hope Bandai didn't decide to ditch them entirely. I really enjoy painting them.
Third in a row actually, the Zeong didn't have Char either, so none of the RG kits I've reviewed happened to have one. I get nervous painting 1/35 figures, never mind 1/144...
congratulations, first on getting the head crest back from the blackhole, and for the review, which is one of your longest one? i absolutely loved the snippets you inserted in between, like the Katoki interview and the bottom heavy era of mechs of yesteryears (can't unsee it now), and kudos on giving a balanced review without getting too hyped on it. question tho for the c-clips that holds the fuel tanks (and the Bazooka to a lesser degree), is it the same as the ones we get from 30MM kits? i don't have a good track record with those lol (looks at my floppy Alto abominations) overall having mixed feelings for the guy, tho with the added bulk and everything, i could recreate the Pillar Men scene just with this and the RG Nu and Unicorn haha.
It really is my longest review to date and maybe only another big RG kit will ever match it. There really is a ton of hype and people are already getting a bit swept up - like people trying to deny the standing problem is a thing by saying it's just people who can't pose a kit properly The clips on the fuel tank is the same sort of connection. They seem to be stretched a bit just staying on the bar, so when they stay on it for a while and warp, then the friction really quickly goes... You'd need a third one with Barbie legs to complete the crew, so invite the Nu along too. Nice thing is they all come ready to do Jojo poses
@@HobbyClubhouse concerning the hype, it's understandable, since it's a follow-up of sort for the very good Nu, but that doesn't excuse problems with the kit (both with the Nu and the Hi-Nu), too bad people is already blaming on 'user errors' for its inability to stand. (a problem that i feel will be exacerbated more when more reviews start popping up) thanks for the clips explanation, i for one would gladly sacrifice some articulation on the tanks for a sturdier 'support', but Bandai think otherwise it seems.
Most definitely prefer the "slimmer" and "less bulky"-relative to the RG!-HG kit. Was fun to build and paint little details on (only painting big, white sections on the Bazooka and Rifle was a pain). The designs are so different that a fan of the Hi-Nu Gundam with space and money could have both, and there wouldn't be anything wrong with that. They are not identical, and none necessarily worse. Personally, I love the head on the 2009 kit much better-it also resembles the version featured on the SRW games, which was how I knew about the Hi-Nu in the first place (probably the game's and HG's design was based on that Izubuchi design.) The RG is a re-design of that re-design that looks impressive, but because of the scale "issue", I am more than happy with my dual-wielding, dual-beam saber HG kit (bought two kits to complete the sabers.) It's old *and* beautiful, with wonderful proportions.
I dropped my jaw at the pose, open a webpage and clicked checkout. I told myself I wouldn't buy anymore unnecessary models unless they stood out lol..... damn this one looks better on camera/in person than just pictures
Ah yes, dropping tiny parts... 1. My Core Gundam fell over and the V fin shot off. Found it half a year later when I moved furniture around, had whittled down a new one from a sprue square. 2. Dropped a part and crawled around on the floor for twenty minutes before I gave up. I turned around to brace on the chair and there it was, resting on top of the flat connecting part of the arm rest. 3. Dropped one of the vernier covers of the RG Force Impulse. Couldn’t find it and gave up after hours of searching - It really soured me on the kit due to how tight the fit is for those. Months later when I dropped yet another part, I kicked my power strip and it rattled in a weird way. I shook it and sure enough it kept rattling around. I unscrewed the cover and opened it up, then the tiny little piece dropped in my hand, from the RG. It’d fallen into a tiny rectangular hole and it only fits at a very specific angle, basically the smallest profile of the part. That was a one in a million drop and an extremely lucky find. I’ve built over sixty kits, I don’t drop parts that often, but when I do it’s a pain in the neck.
I actually really liked the bottom heavy design of the Ver.ka Hi-Nu and thats what actually sold me on the kit. Never gotten the original MG Hi-Nu because the lanky proportions never sit well with me. Looking forward to building the RG now.
The six funnels were quite repetitive to put together :') but yeah, the kit is otherwise very exciting to put together, especially when you see how the leg's bend is done
If RG is supposed to be what It would be like in real life, the legs are used as counter weights and to add additional stability. Them dainty legs would never be able to hold up that monstrosity.
Resently I got the opportunity to build the Hi Nu as my first RG, at first I was concerned about the size, later I didn't care because every set of this Gundam is always different, from bodyparts to saber colors, in the end I really enjoyed building it
Nice review, adding the price in other regions (USD, Euros, Pounds, Dollar-oos) would be handy as a quick reference for viewers but otherwise solid. Subbed. Cheers!
Throughout the whole review I was watching normally, but the moment you pulled that Getter Arc out. Boy... You made me super excited! I hope you do a review of that kit. We need more Getter Robo! As for the RG Hi-Nu Gundam. I'm just kinda meh about it, it's the standard of sexy machine just with a bit of bulk. Frankly the turn off for me is definitely the height. I really prefer my Hi-Nu to be short yet wide and bulky, it feels different compared to other main Gundams which is why I'm just kinda a little sad they increased the height and in my eyes slimed it down a bit. Still a really good kit and I hope everyone who gets it have a great time building it and posing it.
I do think that RG as a grade has been developed more and more to be a detailed and more realistic/grounded design than compared to the anime/manga material. So it doesn't end up that shocking to those who are basing their opinions with that knowledge.
To me, the RG kit that fits that philosophy most was the RG Z'Gok. I remember the designers studied submarine designs for inspirations. Kinda miss interviews like that for the more recent releases
Really love how this RG kit essentially combines all of the major Hi-Nu incarnations over the years, with the Izubuchi blue, white, and copper color scheme with the original line-art/Ver.Ka bulky proportions. All of the opening armor gimmicks are references to the Ver.Ka's hatches as well, as they are mostly the same on both kits. As much as I love the MG Ver.Ka, this RG kit is really filled with love and appreciation from the designer team, making it probably the definitive version of Hi-Nu Gundam that is able to satisfy fans of all versions of the MS
This really is a combination of the different designs. Even the bulk is something between the full-on classic Fat Hi-Nu versus the skinny Izubuchi redesign. It was very interesting to look through and discover all those elements mixed together:)
03:00 How do you know if it is made up of poly styrene?? Is it the "PS" mark? I couldn't find a reliable article about "identifying plastics" that's why I am asking.. Thank you in advance and GREAT WORK (with the review)
It's more straightforward than you might think, it's printed onto the runners (PS/ABS/PE). In the rare cases it isn't, like Kotobukiya sometimes, you can find the info on the instructions in the runners list:)
I'm going to be honest I like the bigger, chunky look over the the smaller, chunky look. It looks more natural to me when next to the nightingale then the HG version. I understand people's complaints about it being to big but it just feels unnatural and overall just weird seeing a shrink in the Gundam design when at this point the suits where getting bigger to the point of the Nu-Gundam. Plus it does still feel like a David vs Goliath situation when squaring up against the Nightingale since it is much chunkier then it overall.
The thickness of the HiNu is indeed a positive element combined with the extra height. Looking at this kit from a 45-degree angle shows off that thickness best with the meaty wings that work together with the chunkier legs. Another commenter mentioned something that didn't come to my mind which is the Nightingale was possibly made with this kit in mind and it's actually rather tall itself so maybe you're not seeing nothing when they go well together
I love the looks of the RG. I personally think all the changes are better, and I don't care about the scale complaints. It's still a bit shorter compared to the RG Nu, and that's all that matters imo. As a fan of the original Hi Nu lineart, I never really liked the Izubuchi redesign for the original MG. I think the RG strikes a balance between the original and the redesign.
Judging from the comments, a whole lot of people agree with you, especially on the styling choices. I had fun discovering what bits they mixed from different designs as I built the kit also... does the Amuro in your icon have an afro...?
As always, great review! Can we expect to see something about the HUGE hyper mega launcher when that gets released? My excitement for this kit getting delivered only grows. Not sure what I'll build while waiting, since I just finished that 1/48 F00.
I'm really curious about the 1/48 F00 myself, I see it in stores now taunting me with its size and price... I'll definitely look at the Hyper Mega Launcher if I can get one (scalper-induced PTSD intensifies)
The look of the gundam model is more important than size accuracy. Those who care about gundam model size accuracy should also care about the technical challenge of making tiny little nonaerodynamic fin funnels fly very far away from the gundam, shoot couple powerful lasers and then fly back.
proportion is definitely off the 1/144, but the thickness is a result of RG Hi Nu being a mix of the most well known 2 Hi Nu illustrations. One being blue and thin like old MG, the other being purple and more chunky like MG ver ka. RG is the result/mix of the two in respect of both illustration's popularity and history.
there are 2 reason for me to pending this kit, the color and size. I prefer the violet if they use bulkier design (i hope some special/limited version of it) and im still salty for the size..
The blue parts are all under-gated so if you can find a purple you like in a can, you can conveniently color everything on the runner:) There really does seem to be a lot of people who wished this kit were in purple
great review! i myself think that the upscaling of the hi-nu is actually meant to make it look closer to the movie version, since so many games frame it as being stronger than the vanilla nu it WOULD be jarring if it was a full head shorter than the nu, so i assume bandai took advantage of the fact that the hi-nu dosent have an explicit set-in-stone design and fudged the numbers a bit
Fans really have been surprised over the years whenever they do see resin kits of the Hi-Nu put together with a similar-scaled Nu. I actually wonder why Bandai left the size difference as-is when the Nu Gundam ended up being really tall, or maybe back then they just never even thought Hi-Nu was going to come back and be a thing...
It is suprising just how much change thay made with this version of the hi nu. Makes me wonder if this is showing how much thay are going to change them in the future
I just found out this channel 3 days ago, and i have already watched all videos! Lol! And subscribed immediately 👍 Awesome job! A very chill and nice pace in the video, clear and very informative, and an awesome job describing the pros and cons of the kits. Great work sir, waiting for more awesome reviews!
Still this Hi-nu is 1/144 scale but in RG Ver. same with Wing gundam tv version. As we can see on the box at the sidings. It stated that this is 1/144 scale. 😅
Great Review as Always! I'm now considering buying this thing for my birthday, But on the topic of RG's maybe you could review the RG Wing EW someday? I'm also considering that RG to be my Birthday Gift but I haven't seen anyone review it recently and I want to know how that thing holds up since it's an Earlier RG
I do have the (less popular) RG Wing Gundam Zero Custom which is sort of the same thing... Maybe I really should review it since it's just sitting there anyway
@@HobbyClubhouse Oh that would be great, Maybe you could even do it as some sort of Christmas Special since, you know, EW took place around Christmas so it would be fitting
Why do you fucking do this to me, Bandai? I just got the goddamn RG Wing and this suddenly showed up. Good review as always, and HOLY SHIT, A CUTE KITTY, aww. He needs to be seen more.
9:15 on the subject of height, there is an official source book that lists the official height of the Hi-Nu as ">> 20m"; because of this, I'd actually argue that the RG Hi-Nu is probably SMALLER than its canon height, as the model comes in at scaling to about 22m, which doesn't seem like "much greater than" 20m to me.
33:05 for the official spec, Nu (22M) is 2M head height taller than Hi Nu (20M), so RG compare with RG and HG compare with HG are seems to be reasonable, but compare with HG MSN-04II Nightingale the HG Hi-Nu is too small as Nightingale head height is 22.8M. Anyway as you know Bandai treat develop HG Nightingale and RG Hi-Nu are "one project". So the size of Nightingale vs Hi-Nu become reasonable. For reference, RX-78-2's height is 18M only
Hm, yeah,I bet Bandai specifically had these two in mind as a pair. An honest think I'm never sure about is for the height, I don't know if they measure the top of the head or to whatever is the highest point like the Nightingale's crest on the head...
@@HobbyClubhouse for example head height of nightingale is 22.8m and overall height, that means included 2 huge vernier binders, is 27.8m, so if you measure in overall height especially Nu gundam (yeah, 6 fin funnels) you may not can imagine how tall of the mobile suit. 😀
This isn't just the best variant of the Hi-nu, this is the best version of any Nu Gundam, be it the movie ver, Side F ver or the Novel ver (maybe saving for the metal structure since I don't own that and haven't heard much about it).
Damn Katoki's proportions make so much more sense now
I perfectly agree with you, especially about the former.
Dude I feel the same. Mecha is normally really early, so I often use him to get caught up with the hobby. Zaku is a very good resource for learning techniques, but man he can info dump like crazy. I think Clubhouse is a great middle ground.
@@changye9604 totally agreed.
Lmao yeah Mecha treats his kits like toys and then complains that they are flimsy or loose. If you didn’t literally throw your kits around you probably wouldn’t have these issues…
Love these ridiculously detailed comparisons of every nook and cranny of the ms lol
Keep it up!
There were a lot of nooks and crannies for the Hi-Nu, kinda glad kits like this don't come every day :')
@@HobbyClubhouse It is in 1/144 scale. They just made it a little taller then the original. Cmon who doesn't want bigger suits.
@@HobbyClubhouse how about the crossbone? Does it have the same leg extension?
@@INFNTRX_AERO Crossbone is little bit smaller than the hg
@@hasefharris357 thanks. I dont own a rg crossbone thats why i asked. Thanks anyways. ❤️
This is one of the better RG Hi-Nu review on UA-cam. I'm glad I found your channel! Keep it up mate! New sub here!
A belated thank you! The RG Hi-Nu really brings a lot of people here. Hope you've enjoyed the new videos since this comment:)
MATE YOU MAD LAD !!
kudos on owning tht kit man , been trying to get myself 1 too .
Mate you're a real cool channel keep up the great work
Thank you so much! I'll keep at it for sure
This is by far the best review I've seen. Your attention to detail is unparalleled.
People actually complain about the height? Jesus.
There certainly is a lot (like really a lot) of talk about it on both sides, which is interesting
Bigger is better
I mean it isn't accurate to the actual scale. Especially when putting it to side by side the hg kit.
Which is why they started to noticeably distance away from 1/144 scale for rg kits
@@long-vutrinh2292that's what she said
The HG Nu-Gundam was my 7th build and absolute favorite, even the fin funnels.
@@HobbyClubhouse "or is that more like an outright award?"
An outright AWARD Sir....and I mean it.
I love your channel! The whole production, set up, and the faint background music. It all works together seamlessly. I'm a fan of your content!
Thank you so much! (later reply I know) Glad the Hi-Nu brought you here. Hope you've been enjoying the new content since this comment:)
Certainly hope to give people a great choice besides the big boys everyone know
Zoids really did have visible canopies where you can see the pilots, and I think it's pretty key to convey that they're piloted machines rather than just robot dinosaurs (as if that alone wasn't already really cool)
Bandai started taking cockpits really seriously at the dawn of the MG line and those kits were the first to seriously show humans in context with the MS
They always made me feel inadequate though since I can't paint them well at all...
"Jobby Clubhouse" sounds nice:) (That bit really did feel Jobby-esque even to me when I was making it)
The girth on the legs made all the difference this time and the Hi-Nu looks really nice with it, even though the height spread out some of that chonk
It's about time YT's Mighty Algorithm gave me some love :)
You'll be driven nuts if you make six funnels on the RG Nu and them go straight into the RG Hi-Nu
The rest looks phenomenal and despite the color choices, I’d be happy to have this displayed.
beautiful review, 36 minute feel like go by really fast while watching your review. can't wait for the next review
Thank you so much! Working hard as we speak:)
besides the extremely detailed review and comparison, i love how you nip the edges and i find it you're extremely careful and precise in cutting the nubs.
Thanks for the great review and classy jokes lol.
i will be honest, long videos is quite a commitment for me, but I will be honest here, your presentation and the details you put into this review, is truly amazing and entertaining!, I enjoyed every moment, I'm new here but I have been loving all your videos, from the reviews to the modeling tips, really lovely
Keep it up!
Thank you so much! Kinda thought it was an angry comment when I started reading and was surprised it's something so nice:)

The kits are slowly getting restocked. Sure hope everyone looking for one of these can get one sooner
I just came across your channel, and The cat named hobby really got me, love your content so far man, I’ve built too many, so nice to watch others do this addiction hobby lmao
Welcome to the channel! Hobby has been making his way to more and more of my videos because he likes to sleep on that review table now:)
Especially being compared to such big channels like theirs:)
And holy cow, I had no idea the head flap was for turning the head - it really works...
Glad the review covered exactly what you wanted! Man I wish I secured an order for the big gun as well...
@@HobbyClubhouse yeah spot on review. The pre order was just sheer luck honestly, thankful that i was able to secure one
The liberties given to the rg line and its purpose is to take into account what the machine would be in real life. In many instances the proportions would be a bit larger to accommodate the mechanicle parts that would need to be housed under the armor.
Fantastic content. So thorough! So knowledgeable! This deserves a million views
Thank you so much! Let's make that 1mil happen ;)
Its 8 mm higher . No drama was needed lol😂 this kit is insane !! Thanks for the review !
Man, I get exhausted just thinking about the totally anarchy that was the old designs. Each time it was drawn it was slightly (or very) different
@@HobbyClubhouse I feel like real grade is supposed to be the line where they take some liberties when it comes to designing a kit. Other grades like HG gear more to anime accuracy.
Fantastic review. Really enjoyable to watch! Also congratulations on being able to get your hands on one hahah.
Thank you so much!
Bandai actually says they've made a lot of the kit to combat scalpers and it seems to be true (for Japan and Hong Kong at least... not so much for other places) It wasn't all zombie-apocalypse movie
Sure hope they can fill global orders quickly
I love the size, now panel line that ish, so it looks even better! 🤣
Great details in your review. Subscribed!
This is a very detailed review, I enjoyed watching this
My new favourite gunpla reviewer. Thank you
You're very welcome:) Motivates me a ton to know my particular style of content is meaningful to you and others!
I don't like this kit. But I like this video a lot. It gives the theme appropriate attention and is a great enrichment to our hobby. People thinking low of gunpla should watch 1 of your review to see how professional it can get.
That leg separation looks like a Perfect Grade's 😳
There it is!! I can't wait to see this with the big gun
Oh man, getting the gun will be another ordeal :')
glad to find this amazing vid after a long day of class
Hope it covered everything about it you could ever imagine :)
Big or not, I'm really of the opinion that they should just not mention 1/144 altogether and I think everything falls in place nicely
I actually didn't consider that gap in level of detail actually but it's quite true especially when the Nightingale is that huge but with really clean, uninterrupted surfaces.
Welcome to the channel, glad UA-cam somehow brought you here:)
The Robot Damashii HiNu really had all the bases covered and even had the big cannon before anyone else did, but yeah, the price leaves it well out of reach for a lot of fans. It's kinda nice the RG looks so different from it so they don't just cancel out one of the other
Can't wait to get this kit, build it, and display it side by side with my RG Nu
The Robot Damashii people have the right idea from the start and don't list a scale so that has never been an issue
Hobby got a nice neck massage:) He keeps getting into my shots now so you might see him more
As usual great review, you cover all of it in one review.
Mine still waiting ready stock my local store
Kinda worry top of wing tips may be easily break
Those pointy bits on the wing really might snap if tossed into a box, though for regular handling, I haven't bumped into them even with all the fiddling for the review so it should be safe.
Chances are good you'll see this before long, since Bandai has stated themselves now that they've made more of the Hi-Nu specifically to combat scalpers:)
Honestly my personal take on the height issue is that we clearly need a taller rg nightingale
Can't wait for Amazon to cancel my $8 pre-orders of the RG Hi Nu Gundam 👍.
Great video, I'm more excited to get the RG Hi Nu Gundam thanks to your video. I'm still on the hunt for the HG Hi Nu Gundam.
Amazon has been cancelling people's model preorders?
Oh wow, I thought $8 pre-order meant you put $8 down. So the entire thing was pre-sold for $8, that's amazing... Fingers crossed💪🏻
Thank you for your support as always:)

Pro builder..
I won't even dare to try paint mini amuro
Third in a row actually, the Zeong didn't have Char either, so none of the RG kits I've reviewed happened to have one.
I get nervous painting 1/35 figures, never mind 1/144...
Oh, right. So I guess they are gone.
congratulations, first on getting the head crest back from the blackhole, and for the review, which is one of your longest one? i absolutely loved the snippets you inserted in between, like the Katoki interview and the bottom heavy era of mechs of yesteryears (can't unsee it now), and kudos on giving a balanced review without getting too hyped on it.
question tho for the c-clips that holds the fuel tanks (and the Bazooka to a lesser degree), is it the same as the ones we get from 30MM kits? i don't have a good track record with those lol (looks at my floppy Alto abominations)
overall having mixed feelings for the guy, tho with the added bulk and everything, i could recreate the Pillar Men scene just with this and the RG Nu and Unicorn haha.
It really is my longest review to date and maybe only another big RG kit will ever match it. There really is a ton of hype and people are already getting a bit swept up - like people trying to deny the standing problem is a thing by saying it's just people who can't pose a kit properly
The clips on the fuel tank is the same sort of connection.
(a problem that i feel will be exacerbated more when more reviews start popping up)
thanks for the clips explanation, i for one would gladly sacrifice some articulation on the tanks for a sturdier 'support', but Bandai think otherwise it seems.
Dude Congrats on 2k subscribers!
Thank you so much! Seemed like just a while back I made the 1K thank you:)
We need a 2k thank you video
Most definitely prefer the "slimmer" and "less bulky"-relative to the RG!-HG kit. Was fun to build and paint little details on (only painting big, white sections on the Bazooka and Rifle was a pain). The designs are so different that a fan of the Hi-Nu Gundam with space and money could have both, and there wouldn't be anything wrong with that. They are not identical, and none necessarily worse.
Personally, I love the head on the 2009 kit much better-it also resembles the version featured on the SRW games, which was how I knew about the Hi-Nu in the first place (probably the game's and HG's design was based on that Izubuchi design.)
The RG is a re-design of that re-design that looks impressive, but because of the scale "issue", I am more than happy with my dual-wielding, dual-beam saber HG kit (bought two kits to complete the sabers.) It's old *and* beautiful, with wonderful proportions.
I dropped my jaw at the pose, open a webpage and clicked checkout. I told myself I wouldn't buy anymore unnecessary models unless they stood out lol..... damn this one looks better on camera/in person than just pictures
It's okay, the RG Hi-Nu isn't unnecessary:) It really does pose like a champ
Subbed. Cheers!
Thank you so much! Your username made me wonder what would be a saltwater spaceman be like...
I love the extra height, it’s a plus to me!
Man, I'm so glad there's actual excitement for the poor Getter Arc! No one seems to care about it. Gonna do that point-boi justice
16:00 late to the party, but the flap on the back of its head is there in a way so that you can tilt up the head even further
@@HobbyClubhouse Wow, I'm still watching your video. I did not expect you to replay this fast! Thank you man, you're the best!
That made my day!! His name is Hobby!!!!!
Possibly the only cat named Hobby too
I'm going to be honest I like the bigger, chunky look over the the smaller, chunky look.
I had fun discovering what bits they mixed from different designs as I built the kit
also... does the Amuro in your icon have an afro...?
@@HobbyClubhouse yes! Amufro. He's been taking hairstyle tips from Cosmo Yuki.
I wasn't expecting you to go all uncle roger/jobby the hong at the fuel cannister part.
@@HobbyClubhouse The F00 is great! I've got photos and thoughts on my IG.
The look of the gundam model is more important than size accuracy. Those who care about gundam model size accuracy should also care about the technical challenge of making tiny little nonaerodynamic fin funnels fly very far away from the gundam, shoot couple powerful lasers and then fly back.
very detailed review ...love to see your cat buddy😁
Thank you! Hobby likes being on camera too
I WILL ADD IT TO MY WISHLIST HI VERSION 2gunpla looks like a spaceship 🚀 rocket booster
proportion is definitely off the 1/144, but the thickness is a result of RG Hi Nu being a mix of the most well known 2 Hi Nu illustrations. One being blue and thin like old MG, the other being purple and more chunky like MG ver ka. RG is the result/mix of the two in respect of both illustration's popularity and history.
This is Real Grade... Unleashed !
*wicked guitar solo plays in the background
there are 2 reason for me to pending this kit, the color and size.
Yeah, buy water slides and paint some stuff. Make it look amazing... this helps me a lot because I would like to build this one...
Love your video... keep it up! You earned a sub!..👍💯
Id reckon panel liding the inner frame is gonna take hours or just dip them in panel lining solution.
for the looseness tank thing can you pass copper wire some some wire at the joint to add support?
i love the very real fnaf character beltorchika and her children
Not only a great kit, we get a cat too? Amazing.
Hobby's really chill too and doesn't mess with model parts. Now he wants a spot in my videos
great review! i myself think that the upscaling of the hi-nu is actually meant to make it look closer to the movie version, since so many games frame it as being stronger than the vanilla nu it WOULD be jarring if it was a full head shorter than the nu, so i assume bandai took advantage of the fact that the hi-nu dosent have an explicit set-in-stone design and fudged the numbers a bit
Movie ver?
I think maybe he meant it makes the Hi-Nu closer in height to the regular tall-boy Nu
I imagine this will solidify quite a few of the features from the Ver.Ka MG into future designs... though I sure hope they don't jump on that too soon
I lost the forehead crest from my hg GTO Gundam a few months ago and I still can't find it.
I just found out this channel 3 days ago, and i have already watched all videos! Lol! And subscribed immediately 👍
Awesome job! A very chill and nice pace in the video, clear and very informative, and an awesome job describing the pros and cons of the kits.
Great work sir, waiting for more awesome reviews!
Always working with a packed schedule :') Lots more stuff coming for sure. Welcome to the channel!
Been looking forward to your opinion
There have been so much talk about this kit already, it was a really interesting kit to go through
@@HobbyClubhouse I’m not one that cares too much about scale accuracy, but it was cool seeing someone mention it
Still this Hi-nu is 1/144 scale but in RG Ver. same with Wing gundam tv version.
I wish the Hi Nu is not white but grey like the G-3. Would be so much nicer with the bright blue.
20:45 pose sold me on this kit 😅
This kit looks like mini perfect grade 😳
They really can do a lot of the PG stuff in RG kits now so you're not too far off:)
Why do you fucking do this to me, Bandai? I just got the goddamn RG Wing and this suddenly showed up.
Good review as always, and HOLY SHIT, A CUTE KITTY, aww. He needs to be seen more.
He's been barging into my videos more and more because he noticed what times I shoot videos at the desk:)
It being slightly taller doesn’t make it any less 1/144 since it has the same size cockpit meaning it’s just a slight modification to its look
I get ya, it's like a 1/144 torso with lanky limbs
This isn't just the best variant of the Hi-nu, this is the best version of any Nu Gundam, be it the movie ver, Side F ver or the Novel ver (maybe saving for the metal structure since I don't own that and haven't heard much about it).
