“Take a community of Dutchmen of the type of those who defended themselves for fifty years against all the power of Spain at a time when Spain was the greatest power in the world. Intermix with them a strain of those inflexible French Huguenots, who gave up their name and left their country forever at the time of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. The product must obviously be one of the most rugged, virile, unconquerable races ever seen upon the face of the earth. Take these formidable people and train them for seven generations in constant warfare against savage men and ferocious beasts, in circumstances in which no weakling could survive; place them so that they acquire skill with weapons and in horsemanship, give them a country which is eminently suited to the tactics of the huntsman, the marksman and the rider. Then, finally, put a fine temper upon their military qualities by a dour fatalistic Old Testament religion and an ardent and consuming patriotism. Combine all these qualities and all these impulses in one individual and you have the modern Boer- the most formidable antagonist who ever crossed the path of Imperial Britain. Our military history has largely consisted in our conflicts with France, but Napoleon and all his veterans have never treated us so roughly as these bard-bitten farmers with their ancient theology and their inconveniently modern rifles. Look at the map of South Africa, and there, in the very centre of the British possessions, like the stone in a peach, lies the great stretch of the two republics, a mighty domain for so small a people. How came they there? Who are these Teutonic folk who have burrowed so deeply into Africa? It is a twice-told tale, and yet it must be told once again if this story is to have even the most superficial of introductions. No one can know or appreciate the Boer who does not know his past, for he is what his past has made him.” Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (author of Sherlock Holmes) www.my-community-business-security.org/theBoer.html

Diss & Dad, please don't comment on something you don't have a clue about. You are acting like a baby, running to your mommy (government). These guys were doing their job. Loads of South African doctors that were educated in apartheid South Africa are saving lives and catching babies in your country.
@@philipdutoit20 Yes, these Apartheid terrorists were doing their job: killing South Africans, Namibians, Angolans and Mozambicans in order to maintain the illegal minority rule of the so-called "Afrikaners" (in fact foreign settlers) nationalist regime.
Each one of these Apartheid terrorists need to be treated in the same way as the Israelis treated Eichmann. They are traitors to the South African people, because they choose to support the anti-South African 'Afrikaner' nationalists.
Respect. Love the chopper in the background at 32 mins... fitting.
I had great respeck for Maj. Wynand du Toit serving with him on SAS Emily Hobhouse on many operations. God bless you.
Those were the days, my friend ....
I love his accent. My mom was South African and her side of the family arrived in the Cape in about 1690 I believe. I served in the Rhodesian army and remember our guys commenting on how aggressive the South African soldiers were with a built-in desire to engage and kill. As one WW2 General said (or words to this effect) "give me 20 USA divisions to land in France, ten Brit divisions to hold the beach head and four South African divisions to finish off Germany". I have great respect for these big "Dutchmen"
And Monty said in his 1943 Empire day speech that none were finer than the SA boys.
Please talk with Wynand again if you could, such an interesting story and life. More information about his military time, his life now and his theory of his captivity would do great. Thanks for this content and I wish you well. Cheers
Every south African was saddened when he got captured.and tx to the Almighty he came home and he is a leader once more
Thanks for the Interview, fascinating stories.
An interesting interview from the other side of the fence. Politicians f**** anyone, it's a lesson for everyone. 🇿🇦 belongs to everyone who lives in it, I still think this was the best deal for everyone. I need to have this book. Thanks Wynand.
Politicians are a cancer, they ruin everything 💔 I don't like them.
Brilliant. Thank you for the truth and thank you for helping me validate many things that have happened in my life and the subsequent actions i have taken . Thank for your service and you are a Hero to me. God Bless

What a wonderful philosophy and attitude from an immensely intelligent man. Almost murdered by his own superiors as his two companions were,. KUDOS
Good interview with Col du Toit. South Africa was certainly misled by ruling class in 1994 but nothing is forever and something will ultimately be salvaged from the wreckage.
Brought back the memories when I saw the images. I had just finished my time a few years before
I solute you for your bravery, and I do remember your story, the time you were captured, kept up to date on the news.
Very interesting! Could not stop listening. Googled the Brazzaville Protocol and guess who signed it for South Africa - Roelof Botha (Pik)!! Was he the traitor in our midst?? Me thinks that😖😖
Amazing story......
A lot of this now makes sense. Dankie Wynand.Held!
No mention of Kissinger's part in this devious tale.
Great soldier used as a pawn in the game of dirty politics.
Excellent interview and discussion

This is your Testimony. I really enjoyed this video.
Fascinating story. Thanks for telling it.

@@kazer353Mugabe, your hero
No one can know or appreciate the Boer who does not
know his past, for he is what his past has made him.”

What a fascinating interview and account. I never really knew about all of this. The way Wynand told it, was like sitting next to a fire with your grandfather. The setting was a bit odd, I like the outside idea, but mustve been a bit uncomfortable sitting on the ground basically and the glare coming from the bright sunlight didnt make for good picture quality. Nonetheless, lots of credit to an interviewer that is asking good questions and then leave the interviewee to answer at his own tempo - loved that. Thanks a lot for the upload!
I salute you Wynand du Toit.
God bless Afrikaners. Ashamed that our U.S. embargoed SA to defend communists.
God bless africa where civilization came from, that is why the western colonialists and imperialists came to africa to steal minerals and enslave africans for the survival of the west.
Absolutely a fantastic story to listen to!
What a legend. He mentioned the bombing of the fuel installations in Beira @ 17:43, I personally know people from Beira from the Munhava and Pioneiros bairros that fled the explosions that night in 1982. I also happens to know one of the men that were setting the limpit mines that night. The story are just as interesting for the Beira port had many Russians during that time.
Facnating interview. Global/geo politics certainly played a major role. Intetesting comment about the ANC armed wing.
Really great interview
What an incredible story. A man of steel. My Ouma was n' Du Toit. En my Groot Groot Oupa se name was Jan "Yster" Du Toit.
